Ludum Dare Compo Entry

https://canis-lupus.itch.io/shift-a-ludum-dare-rpg-

48 hours to learn making a complicated RPG game and to practice Pixel art. Tried all the new things, but I think this turned out a bit buggy…

Shapeshifter is done

Shapeshifter

It’s a short poem with additional visuals and audio effects. There is no gameplay so don’t play it if you want good bullet-hell lol.
However it’s ready and if you have a minute to read it – please do it.

A bit information about development:

  1. I gave up on music. Simply no time to record my real instruments;
  2. I planned rhythm-game style gameplay. However I had to give up on this because of time limits;
  3. Its my first entry made only by me. Its been f***ing tough.
  4. Its my first attempt to create graphics and i think it could be worse lol.

Well, im looking forward for your feedback.

Done now just uploading

Wiped is an understatement but its being uploaded for better or worse.  Hope you guys like it.  I personally looking forwards to playing some games from the community.

Amelie the Amazing Amazon – Day 2 Progress

Almost done with the game but I need to sleep. Tomorrow some finishing touches and off I go!

Here is the progress so far:

LD35_7
Including proper gameplay features, like:

  • Killing enemies
  • Enemies killing back
  • Souls to collect
  • Actual shapeshifting into a powerful amazon
  • Random weapon on shapeshift
  • Health regeneration
  • Highscore in the end
  • Music (not mine)
  • Also a game name: Amelie the Amazing Amazon!

Yes, the content is third party from the unity store free section. So I’m opting out from graphics. And audio. And humor. Is there anything left?

I Made it!

I can’t believe it but I made it in time.  A very simple game compared to some of the great things I’ve seen you guys and gals post this weekend.   I met my main goal for my first Ludum Dare, complete a game.

Title

I can’t wait to star the judging and see all the wonderful games.

My first storytelling game

My game is here!

It was difficult, I almost gave up, but 15 hours before the submission I elaborated an idea which I would like.

Flexible Story Teller

Like last year, as soon as I restore my mana, I’m going to make video reviews (the job I regularly do at FGL.com). I’ll start from thos cool guys who follw me on Twitter and who share their suggestions on my own game.

Here’re my videos from LD33: http://www.airapport.com/2016/04/my-video-reviews.html

End of Day 3

In my last post, I discussed that made some serious advancements in our game. Today we (@shakesoda and @LandonManning) have most of the “game” done!

We improved our path finding so that the enemy now follows the player around. We had a bug where you could sneak out of the enemy’s sights and glitch it out, but we fixed that. Enemies now aggro you if you are within pathing range, and it actually attacks you if it’s close enough! We’ve decided on our enemies… Tigers! The reason for the tigers is because when I was writing the story/script, I started adding forest/tree puns. And let me tell you, Taiga Forest is a great pun!

As I mentioned, I wrote up the script (which has been translated to German and French and a special language for NG+) and we had our good friend Nadja voice our main character. This time around, I added my own voice to the mix for the grandpa and the tiger. I also created a crunching sound by obnoxiously eating a bag of Crispers, then speeding it up and pitch shifting it down. It sounds… okay. shakesoda made a walking sound effect by flapping his wallet in front of his mic. It wasn’t meant to be a permanent sound, but we may be running out of time on that front. We have most of the sound effects implemented now, with a few timing tweaks coming tomorrow.

More models and animations were added today, most of which are temporary. As I write this, shakesoda is tidying them all up so that when I wake up tomorrow, the game should be much prettier. But as it stands, we have an idle, attack, and run animation for all three of our “forms”. The first form is the ATK Form, where you wield a katana. The second form is the SPD Form, where you wield a bow… made out of katanas. It actually looks decent. The final form is the DEF Form where you wield a dagger (a short katana) and a shield… made out of bows… made out of katanas. It looks silly and will be updated tonight, but for now, it works!

We noticed that the game was kind of slow, we figured it was because we had lots of objects being drawn. We fixed this by culling all objects that are not within a certain radius of the character. Simple and effective.

Tomorrow is the final day! shakesoda plans to work through the night to add a lot of polish to the game such as menus, nicer models and animations, a user interface, etc. With the polish done, the last major step is to get enemy spawn points working, and have the final cut scene work, and add in our New Game+ mode.

If you want to check out our dev progress, you can catch us on Twitch tomorrow for the final countdown!

Day 2… so, so tired…

Thought I’d post an update before I crawl off to bed…
My game’s taking shape… it’s rather basic compared to some of the incredible looking submissions I’ve seen, but I’m mostly happy-ish with my effort thus far.
Here’s how it’s looking:

ShapeSquangle - Day 2

The idea is to collect the various shapes. Only active shapes can be collected and the player collides with non-active shapes and static blocks.
The rows of blocks/shapes are moving at an increasing speed to the left, pushing the player back… so it’s basically an endless runner.

I’ve run into countless problems over the last few days that I’m sure a future version of myself will look back and cringe at. The physics aren’t fantastic… but it’s playable.

There’s still some bits to do before I can submit, including sounds and gameover… I have to work tomorrow so it’ll be tight to get everything ready and submitted after work, but I’ll give it a go.

I finished my game!

Yeah!

I’m very pleased that I was able to put this one together this time. I’ve struggled in past LD’s and have only submitted once before… and that one was a terrible game. This time – I feel like the game I put together is quite well polished and works as it should. Of course, there is a lot I’d have wanted to add to make the game more fun – but it’s still worth a play in it’s current state.

I’m gonna be hitting the old hay soon. Got some Z’s to catch up to. But, starting tomorrow I’ll be playing and rating games! The fun is not yet over!

Here’s a sneak preview:

 Square Peg Round Hole

Square Peg Round Hole

Don’t ever race me or my son again

Well I didn’t finish. But I’m submitting anyway.

The code I wrote, while pretty simple, will be of use to many folks out there who have thought of doing a racyasted racing game with 2.5d sprites

Here is a video in action:

Chromeshift – The Compo for the first time

I just added my game.
It’s a simple arcade game where you control the rotation of the square so that the rays were placed in the appropriate colors.
I am very happy with the result, which obtained.
Very keen on all the details of this project.

Here is my entry site.

I wish I’d had time to add a few more levels, but the basic mechanics are well put in place at least. If only I hadn’t wasted all of Friday night and early Saturday morning!
