LD35 April 15–18, 2016

The water has helped me.

main_scrrscr

We’ve reached this point again, after 48 hours. This madness has happened 35 other times, surprising right?

Well, but talking about my game. It’s fair to say I was more relaxed than last time, and the game came out very easily. I’m gonna do a post mortem about it, maybe tomorrow. But bear with me, the game is fun.

Game

YEEEAH finished my first Ludum Dare!

Ludum Dare 35

Changing the gameplay and graphics completely after half the jam + a lot of annoying bugs means that I didn’t get to make as many levels as I wanted, and there are a lot of more mechanics I wanted as well. Still very happy with it for my first Ludum Dare though!

Who you’re gonna call?

And it’s done!

Luckily we have an hour to upload it on the page because I am so tired I can hardly click the correct buttons.
I had a great time making this entry and think it turned out pretty okay, at least it’s playable.
You have to haunt a house and avoid the busters that try to vacuum you in their little toolboxes.

Finished!!

Hey guys!

This is my second Ludum Dare, and sadly I had a pretty busy weekend so I was not able to work on my game as much as I wanted.  Nevertheless, I believe that I was able to create a pretty fun game (with crappy music).

The premise of my game is that you have to match shape outlines that enter the screen by changing the properties of your shape.

Here is a picture:

stuff

Your shape is the green one.  To match a shape you move your shape over the corresponding shape outline.

Anyway, I can’t wait to try out everyone’s games and I hope that you guys enjoy mine.  If you want to try it click here.

My Entry – Shape Shifter Match Maker

Shape Shifter Match Maker has been uploaded!

Another great weekend of LD development. Started a bit slow for me, but after finally settling down, I put something together.  I hope you give it a try.

Next comes the fun of playing a lot of games, a Post Mortem, and Timelapse Video!

I’m behind!

Gonna have to do the jam..

well then… gg everyone

couldn’t compete this time around because of a family trip, but hey! always next time! also why cant i attach my image? its just a snip of a second left on the compo’s clock

From Compo to Jam

Welp! Due to a lot of bugs I only have a single level of my game. It’s a shame because it was starting to look pretty good! So, I’m going to spend a bit more time on it and release as a Jam instead and include some other features/correct some other stuff.

I’m going to include several more levels and enemies as well!

Update 1: Moved from the Box2D graphics that I was using to something more ’tile’ based. Also started to add monster shapes and the like.

Hey! You didn’t offically enter this into the Ludum Dare – you just posted about it. There was like a submit an entry – you must have just made a post. I would talk to Mike about getting it officially entered as not as many people can see it, and no one can vote on it…

Finished!

Yeah, got the whole thing done, finally a LD without changing the idea during the compo.

About this LD, Post Mortem
=============
This is my first LD where I stuck with the idea from the beginning to the end, yeah! I think it’s a pretty nice game, considering I am by no means an advanced Unity user. Most of the time, I had to look up questions on the web…
– WHAT WENT RIGHT
I stuck with the plan from the beginning to the end. I used most of the 48 hours, with almost no distractions. I’ve created a fun little game with good nice art, a cool logo and an interesting concept. I also like the map, and the increasing difficulty due to larger area of possible patient spawns and less patient health.
– WHAT WENT WRONG
I slept not enough, which translated into the music and audio not being as good as the last LD, because I had to rush it a bit. Also, I spent way too much time trying to get the AI cars to work correctly. What stinks is my lack of expertise with Unity. I really need to develop more games…

Holy shit this looks dope just from your “Splash” pic. Can’t wait to play!

Progress :D

Progress

Progress is going really good for me! I’ve got the core mechanics down(except for enemies moving).

After all of the core stuff is done I’ll add another enemy and start making levels 😀

Donezo :o

preview

Finally submitted :) its goofy and could do with proper polish but I won’t be spending any more time on it before the jam deadline so here I am~

My first ludum dare and first time making a game that is mostly playable.. its been a great experience and I definitely learned a lot. More importantly, I’ve gained a lot of confidence in my ability to just do things. Particularly happy that the player has an actual transformation animation, even if it is super basic :3

Thanks to everyone who took part – looking forward to rating some games! 😀

Finally Finished

Looks like my idea… shapeshifted into a game.

shapeshift

Go play it here!

In the end, I was really happy with my concept, but probably didn’t put enough time into it.

Things I’ve learned:

  1. Sound and music should not be done last minute
  2. Blender and Unity are both awkward with animation
  3. Even if they weren’t, I’d still be bad at it
  4. Test your game in fullscreen if you’re going to write post-processing effects

Hopefully I’ll put a little more time into this after the competition ends. If nothing else, I have to take out the uses of the default Unity particle texture. That shit’s just embarrassing. More puzzles would be nice too.

Anyway, now I’m going to go and sleep. Looking forward to judging a bunch of sweet games over the next few days.

Goodniiight.

I hope I’ll not do the same mistake as you in the future. Sounds and music are a big part of the game.
