ALGEBRO!

After a scary submission hour, Algebro is LIVE on itch.io!

https://chummywinds.itch.io/algebro

Currently only the windows version is available, but we are trying to get the web and mac ports working and will activate them soon.

Remember how much your imagination would run wild when you were just a bored kid at school?
Let our team, Chummy Winds, take you back to a time of daydreaming and doodling in our first Ludum Dare jam game, Algebro.
Take control of the little dude and fight your way through 3 beautifully designed stages, dashing between 2D and 3D to fend off the blood thirsty shapes who are trying to suck you into their world.
How to play:
Move with the mouse cursor
A key – shift to Triangle shape
S key – shift to Circle shape
D key – shift to Square shape
Space/Click – Dash Attack
Escape – Pause and View Controls
Shift to the matching shape and dash into baddies to clear them from the stage.
The blue meter shows you how much stamina you have left to perform a dash, while the red meter displays how much time you have left in shape mode before your little dude turns back into 3D mode, where you are vulnerable to lose health. But watch out, colliding with the wrong baddie shape will immediately send you back into 3D mode where you can take damage!
Tips:
You can move underneath obstacles when in 2D/Shape mode, just like the baddies.
If you find yourself clicking off the game window too often while dashing, try using the space bar to dash.

We (kinda) finished and posted (kinda) game

We will try to fix bugs to make it beatable as soon as possible.
Though it’s not “quite” finished we had fun creating it and laughting at bugs. So here’s a gif of the game (and bugs). We are not completely sure where there is the game and where are bugs.

Try to try it.

A great Jam ended. Let’s play Games!

The last day of the Jam ended and we uploaded the files for our Entry. It was really fun and challenging to do what we did and we hope that you like it. The game was completely made by Skyane (graphics) and Phaix (programming).

We will start playing games and vote. If you wan’t us to also play your game and leave a vote, as always leave a comment that we know you where there. :-)

Moonlight by Skyane and Phaix

Keep your head where you left it and have a great time to play all the great games made for the Ludum Dare 35!

Stone sacrifice

We finished our game. And it works. The UI is a little rough, but we achieved a good set of outgame of feature like the leaderboard and a scoring system that will make you sweat.

The game should really reveal itself with a multiplayer mode but to match with the format of the jam we chose to make it playable alone.

Thanks to the team, as usual it was amazing.

The great shape-shifting god requires a sacrifice ! The sacrificial crowd needs to be put in place. This is a two man job : one moves these worthless minions around and the other dominates the scene from his high vantage point and makes sure the holy instructions are followed.

Use space to switch from one to the other. While playing the man on the ground hold shift to run and left click to yell at the mindless sheep to guide them to their proper positions. Ctrl grabs them and throws them around and when you feel ready, the observer can summon the gods using the END key.

I’ve made it!

LD35 2016-04-19 04-26-56-44

After 56 hours of working on PC and less than 8 hours of sleep I’ve finally made it! I am really proud of this achievement because I’ve had no idea what I am capable of in a such time manner. Especially because this was my first project in Game Maker (I own it for just a few weeks) and one of my first touch with real programming generally. I hope you will enjoy playing this game at least partially as I enjoyed crafting it. I have wonderful weekend behind me.

Finally

Well everyone, It’s been another great ludum dare!  We worked hard and I think it’s safe to say both of us are happy with the result.  We tried something new and while it’s a bit glitchy I think it turned out to be rather entertaining. We gave the theme a shot but truth be told we really just wanted to try this idea we had prior to ludum dare. Let me know what you think!

I had planned on showing off an awesome gif of the character changing colors but I can’t see to find a way to optimize it without turning it to garbage.

Anyways, my birthday is in 50 minutes. You should play our game! It’s pretty friggen awesome, too. Click the “Trionic” image to go to it.

shape, LESS

Hi everyone!

This is my first Ludum Dare. I hope to update the level design later for more gameplay, but for now here is what I have done:

Ooo looks fun! I’m gonna play it.

We did it!

Once upon a time… in a land far far away, there lived a mustachioed man who would shapeshift into various awesome battle animals in hopes of making it to work less late to appease the robot overlords. Maneuver your way around traffic or battle to death! Good luck, Have Fun!

Mr. Purrgalar

Mr. Purrgalar

This was my first Game Jam, and it’s been tons of stressful fun! Barely made the submission window by running around the campus looking for a good wifi! Our students thought I was loosing it more than usual.

Hope you enjoy my little color based puzzler. I submit to you: Mr. Purrgalar. Enjoy!

We did it!!

I think we did, this was my second Ludum Dare, and i’m pretty satisfied with the progress from my entry on LD 34 from that One, and is the first time of my co-workers who help to make this game.

Let’s Play Then All!

The first Ludum Dare that I’m really proud of

I’ll tell you my story. But first, if you didn’t played my entry, head here!

Saturday, I was really not feeling to make a Ludum Dare, especially after hearing the theme. It was a decision between either doing this Ludum Dare…or playing Dark Souls 3 !

I’ll let you imagine my conflict haha, but I said to myself, how was I able to make a Ludum Dare, just by myself, in 48h, as I wanted to do a compo? So, having lost my friday to Dark Souls 3, I started to brainstorm and making a rough prototype of my game Saturday morning.

This is what I was looking at, but without all the graphics :

But I encountered many problems, especially with this question : How will I make my shape fit in the holes in 2D ??? With my upward mechanic, was I going to make the level on different Z planes and move the player diagonaly, but with a orthogonal camera, so it gives the illusion of moving upward? Will I do the walls in 3D ? Will I put the camera in isometric and follow the player as he goes inside each hole in the walls ? Will I push my player on the Z axis with gravity on the x ?

So many questions that I was not able to find the answers…so guess what ?

Yeah, you guessed it. I returned playing Dark Souls 3 ! :3

….

But this is not the end of my story.

So after a good challenging Saturday playing my favorite series of all time,  I kept thinking about a way to make my design work somehow with my game mechanic… I mean… Do I really need to make the shapes pass through the holes…you know, physically?

And then it striked me ! If this was going to work, well, it could fix all my problems.

So Sunday morning, I wake up really early, and I start prototyping more on my solution.

And the solution is:

Well, I could just make the wall detect if the form I’m trying to pass through the hole is the same shape, if yes, then when passing near the middle of the hole, change sorting layer order !

That was so simple, and with the right systems, it works with a charm ! So, having only 24h to make it for the compo, I tried all my might to make and polish the first level.

It was looking like this at the end :

I used a neat little graphic engine, it’s called Magica Voxel where you can create cool blocky art and I used music from Newgrounds as well as sounds from freesounds.org.

So when my level was done, I tried to apply to the compo. It was 9 O’clock and I know that there is an extra hour in order to submit.

But guess what, it was 9h05 and the compo option in the submission page…it was grayed out !!!!

So…all I did was for nothing.

But alas, I was able to participate to the jam, so I applied right there instead.

Having already submitted my first level, monday would be a return to work and I wouldn’t have much more time to work on the game, but I wanted sooo bad to add just another level.

So today, at my lunch break, I did another level in just 1 hour! It introduce another game mechanic, and I saw how it was easy and quick to do a level when all the systems are already in place.

So I said to myself:  “well, I don’t want it to end there, I must do a last level !”

So that’s what I did this evening, and this one will be a little challenging, but I’m really proud of how it turned out overall ! I’m really proud as I didn’t saw myself finishing this on the last day of the jam…and again, alone ! I’ll try to find a team next time, as it can give us better contents if the project is, of course, well managed.

Let me know if you have found my game interesting, and again, happy rating for everyone !

So… if you excuse me, I’ll return to Dark Souls 3…Dying…oups, I mean decompressing from this LD !
