LD35 April 15–18, 2016

I’d forgotten about the LD. I really should be studying. But damn it, it’s too tempting. I’m in for something really quick.

About two hours of messing around in GM:S and I’ve got an island that seems to unfortunately suffer from earthquakes an absurdly large amount. I’m not sure if this is the context I’ll stick with throughout though, might have my Heathen Wizard from LD 31 return, since that game featured semi-shape shifting landscapes too.

I won’t have time to look at you guy’s journals and such this time around, as much as I’d like to :(, I’m literally going to make this, submit it, and get back to work, rating other subs when I can.

What doth thou think so far? Haha.

Kind regards,

Almost… there…

Core gameplay works! Shift the shapes!

11 hours left, and I’ve already got the core gameplay working and a fully-functional level editor 😀 ! Shift yourself and your shapes onto the goal tiles to win.

Snail pushes a block onto the pulsating goal area.

Final programming task: implement the unlockable animal shape-shifting forms.
Then I only have to make some sounds, music, and levels. And probably add some polish to the art.

Breakable blocks and Spikes

Added wall jumping,  spikes, water and breakable blocks to the game. Still no levels so I really need to start on that now and also find some time to create sound and music. Hopefully I’ll have enough time for all of it :)

Our very own descent into madness

A brief introduction
This is our very first Ludum Dare and our third GameJam in general.
We are currently a beautiful team of three people.

 Programmer (The most valuable part)
 Artist (The most underrated part)
Game Designer (The most unneeded part)

We use Unity for our project and strive to become better at our craft.

A brief overview of the game

It is not the most ambitious, but definetly one of the most fun projects which we have worked on this far.
You will be able to enjoy a 3-Button-1-Scene-Puzzle-Mashfest in a generic fantasy setting without any purpose or reason.
Enjoy wonderful amateur hand-drawn Pixel Art, a code-base based on desperation and energy drinks, and a raw introduction narrative recorded on a phone.
The main goal is to find out the weakness of your opponent and to destroy it. Simple stuff, really.
1 Punch Mockup
This was the GD mockup for our "concept".

title screen mockup

And here we have another mockup of a title screen.

And with this we will continue engulfing into our project.
GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!

Surely this is possible in less then 48 hours :D

Polygonal Monkey Game
Polygonal, Lycanthropic Monkey Game with climbing and somersaults (just need to make a level editor, sprites, tiles, sound, story, concept, idea, get a grasp of reality, …)

WIP cargo game!

I need a name for this… but so far it is something like Cargo Shifter or something…

What I got working at the moment is

Cargo selection is random

ship knows when it is full

the preview window shows you next cargo

paths and timings working ok

and it is quite chilled to play! So I may well take a snapshot of this and include it as relax mode with the rules stripped out.

Don’t need a name. The art is astonishing! @____@

I’m really amazed by it!

It’s done!

So, as I am unable to concentrate, the game will have to stay in it’s current condition. It is ready for testing at http://otg.dk/ludum-dare/index.php !

It is a fusion between an endless runner and a puzzle game, with a lot of shapeshifting involved. It features a global hiscore, and sounds made by an ocarina, a coffee cup and some keys. Good luck!

Creature Cutouts, update #1

Creature Cutouts, update #1

Finally got graphics and physics working together.  One thing I’ve already noticed is that these beasts will be really hard to control so I’ll try to make it as forgiving as possible. Now on to making a creature editor!

Music done

While I’m trying to get a little build up and running for friends to start testing, I’ve uploaded the scores of my LD35 entry there:

Is it okay if my game doesn’t have a tutorial? D:

Compo is almost done and I have no tutorial yet D: do I just write the instructions or make a tutorial?

Either is fine.

Yes it is okay, as long as the game is clear, there is no need for tutorials. However if you are going to add instructions, please let us skip the cut scenes.

10 hours left to make a tutorial xD. I just make a splash screen with the instructions

Metal-ish Music?

Turns out I have a sound cloud that’s about 5 years old! I spent an hour or so putting together some okay music. My game is about going fast so I wanted music that reflected that.. Tried to go for a sort of.. game-ish metal thing? I’m not really a big metal fan but I thought it would be appropriate. Let me know what you think!

shapeshmup :)

Hey guys, here is my progress so far. Actually my game is classic shmup in which you have to change your form to avoid the bullets and the differents forms gives you some abilities or disabilites.

For example the circle is faster than others forms but it can’t shoot.

Bullet hell! hahaha

Nice man, just… Needs a little balance, specially in the beginning of the game. Good sound and collison box, though. 😀

Level Editor sneak peak

Could someone recommend me a tool to make gifs of my desktop?

Screenshot 2016-04-17 16.34.49

Our level editor is coming along nicely, which is going to make creating these puzzles a lot easier and will allow you to share you own headscratchers with your friends!

Also note the fancy shader that replaced the static background. 😀

maybe LICEcap

Almost done

screen2

Ok, I just finished the basis for an infinite runner, I just need to add different kinds of obstacles to the map so it doesn’t get repetitive. Pretty decent for my first LD entry!

Mephisto Rising

Hi everyone,

Heres some basic gameplay of what i’ve just decided will be called “Mephisto Rising”.

Not super stoked about the name but hey it’s a game about the devil going upwards, so at least it’s accurate….
