Boss Battle 2

The second boss battle is done. Just one more to go. The game gives you tip when you die. Speed is screwed up on the gif.

My game is finished,

I made a little fun game. nothing too special, just having a bit of fun :)

Uploading to google drive now.

tIME’s first report

While programmers don’t share any visual content, I’ll share some of the music I made. The software I used on this was LMMS (yes, LMMS), using some built in VSTs and a couple of free ones found on web, using no other gear rather than the computer itself. This is the first Ludum Dare submission of ours. As far as I can tell it is a runner game where you have to shapeshift accordingly to what you face.

Hint: you literally have to SHAPESHIFT.

Here is a demo from what the menu song might sound like:

(And here is a gif of what you may see if you happen to play our game)

That’s quite funky. Thank you for letting me know what LMMS is, now I have a new thing to play with haha.

Getting There

The main UI is now up and running on my game, the basic AI is working just need more content and maybe fix the multiplayer.

Getting there360x270

But for now, MORE CONTENT TIME

Let’s try the guy

I am not sure about the beat counter before the game start, should it shows the upbeat or downbeat? I’ve watched some karaoke on YouTube (hehe) and they seemed using upbeat for the starting counter.

Day 1 Progress

Ok, so my first Ludum Dare and I’m in pretty late (only got access to a workstation 5 hrs ago, so I could only brainstorm before then).

Game concept for the theme is as follows:

  • 2 player Spy v.s. Sniper type of game played from a top-down perspective.
  • 1 player is the spy in a dance festival, following the Congo lines between changing rooms until he reaches the exit.
  • The Spy must chose a costume and dance routine to follow so that he blends in, and can change up under cover every changing room.
  • The Sniper must spot the Spy among the dancers and take him out before he reaches the exit.

Done:

  • Basic movement system for both Spy PC and Dancer NPCs (Grid hopping, no smoothing).
  • 2x dancer movement sequences with random move timer to shake things up.
  • Keyboard input for Spy to move on grid and change “costume”.

To-Do:

  • Sniper mouse controls.
  • Win / Lose conditions (Exit or Death for Spy).
  • Dancer NPC spawning and de-spawning system.
  • Funky music!
  • Graphics!
  • Think of a name!
  • Probably redress the Spy / Sniper as something more funky!

Hurrah for default objects! Green cube is the Spy, purple are the NPCs.

You can do it ! Yes you can ! I just love your game design, I can’t wait to play your game.

The foundation has finally been set! – Game Update

The art is coming together as our artist works non-stop on our sprites, our 3 devs have the basic code for the functions down, now we’ll start to expand the game so we get some diversity. Also sounds.

Currently working on the Shapeshifting…basic functionality is done and a basic “Effect” as u can see on the Screenshot. Everything really basic. Really.

If you wanna watch us work on it, I m holding the stream together and we are on most of the time 😉

If you wanted to try pixel art, I would suggest using GraphicsGale. It’s free and fairly easy to use. I watched one youtube video on it and started using it.

Hahha, do I have to animate my shit? Or can I just make it “wobble”

Jam Completed!

And we’re done! Our 2nd Ludum dare completed. I’m really happy with what we got done in a day and a half. A decent chunk of which was spent having fun playing the game! Good to have Ludum Dare here to give that push.

Concept by my 11 year old son, programming by me, and title screen by my talented wife. I would add another level but have work to get on with tomorrow :(

Entry Here if you’re interested in some shape matching goodness.

I plan to release a mildly updated version for free on iOS and Android soon.

Game over.

Game over.

This is it. I’ve decided it’s time to say that my game is done. It’s been yet another amazing experience doing LudumDare again. Reading this blog over the weekend has been so inspiring, and I’m looking forward to play a lot of games in the voting period.

Ninja ATalk v 0.1

The ShapeShifting Hands of a mute person have the power to comunicate in any place in any part of the world.

In this game, you have to form words connecting the letters in the circle of magic jutsu stuff…

It was made in 4 hours in the OneClickJam (that starts just at the same time as LudumDare, so i used both themes (accesibility and shapeshift) to create it) I had made this game with Federico Arias (music) and Georges Issa (general help), but since it had to be in so short time, the graphics werent original (the magic simbol of sakura maybe is a prove of that xD), but right now im working on them to make it completly original and since it was made in team i had the 72 hours range to make it work :)

You can actually play the game in its actual form by clicking in the image :)

Heart of the Forest

This is my first LD, and it will actually be my first released game. It took me a long time to find an idea to work with, and I had to sleep more than I wanted (I work nights, and I was at work the night the jam started). It also took me quite a long time to learn stuff on the fly, which I should probably have taken before the start.

Anyway as we get closer to the deadline I still think (and hope) I can produce something that more or less looks like a game.

So, almost two days into the jam and my game is beginning to look like something. It is a shmup called “Heart of the Forest”.

Elevator pitch

The Heart of the Forest has been corrupted. You are some kind of druid/shaman and your goal is to cleanse it. You can draw upon the power of spirit animals to complete your mission (and that is where the shapeshifting comes into play).

What I have

  • A character that can move, shoot and die
  • Two enemies that can attack and die (a corrupted boar that rushes towards the bottom of the screen, and a corrupted snake that shoots venom towards the player)
  • A camera set to auto-scroll
  • Placeholder art for all that

What I still need

  • More enemy variety
  • A boss fight
  • Proper art and animations
  • Sounds
  • Shapeshifting attacks

What I’d like to have (but don’t think I’ll have the time to make)

  • More levels allowing you to free the spirit animals and gain new powers

Goals

  • Have a playable prototype build tonight that is more or less feature-complete so that I can get some playtest data to fine-tune.
  • Work on art and sound tomorrow so that I can release to the public on time.

That’s more or less all there is to say! Back to work!

Day 2 and still rollin’!

It’s day 2 (for me at least xD) and I’ve been doing a lot of work on the atmosphere and the game environment. It’s looking pretty good so far (forgive my poor tiling) !

Desert WIP

Decor, creativity, and radioactive dogs?

A fair amount has happened since I last posted. Here is a screeny before I explain:

screeny6

So, for the quick changes, I decided to change the “plutonium” to a made-up element called “apothekium”- this is to make my game more creative, and because I don’t know enough about plutonium’s properties to make an accurate representation of it within my game.

Also, I added an entity called an “apothek” (the small dog-like thing that can be seen a few blocks away from the apothekium). It’s got some cool properties because it will radiate any type of radiation it comes in contact with!

Finally, I added a nicer background for better presentation.

Still got a LOT to do, and I really don’t want to run into tomorrow because that’s when school starts and these upcoming weeks are very important, which is why I’m taking a quick revision break now!

Good luck all! 😀
