LD 38 April 21–24, 2017

Let's do this!

I'm going to be busy this Saturday but I won't let that stop me!

I'm in !

Hello, hope this time i can finish the game, my plans are use unity for me and help a friend of mine with the art happy LD for all !

We're in for our 8th LD Jam!

We’re super stoked to be a part of the 15th anniversary of Ludum Dare!

Although the theme is eerily similar to LD23's Tiny World, we're confident we can come up with something pretty unique this time around.

Our team consists of:

Rose – Design, Art

If 2D game: - Photoshop - Illustrator - AfterEffects

If 3D game: - Maya - Oculus Medium, Tiltbrush - MagicaVoxel

Vu – Development

  • Unity 5.6

Johan – Music, Sound

  • FL Studio
  • BFXR

And we may have a few guests join us too!

I'm In

It's a small world after all. Let's do this. First time competing.

I am using Phaser javascript.

I know what I'm doing, I'm an engineer

As I already mentioned I'm a bit ill so I'm going to go easy on me with this one, I'll create a text adventure. I stick to the theme by setting the entire game in one room, how that is going to interesting I don't know yet but we'll see.

The game is browser based and can be compiled into just one file this makes everything much easier.

Here, have a peak: https://gyazo.com/48b85b1415d10a3c78a11beefb682519

It begins... I'm in.

Well a small world is a good enough theme I suppose. I think a literal approach to that will be best for me. Decisions, decisions...

Obligatory "I'm in!" Post

I haven't done Ludum Dare since 2015, roughly, but since I've got a project in one of my classes at university that requires me to make some kind of interactive art piece, well... might as well use this to get a headstart!

I'll be using Superpowers as my engine. It's specifically made with rapid game development in mind, so it should work well. I want to try doing a hybrid 2D/3D look, so I'll possibly be using both Blender and my art program of choice, Clip Studio Paint EX. I'm no music person so I'll be using the standard tools (bfxr, various online widgets, etc) to generate that for me. I'm also going to try to go for the compo, but we'll see how that goes. :stuckouttongue:

The theme isn't one I voted for, but I think I can make it work. I've got ideas floating around about having the player construct a world out of given assets, playing with physics and dragging things around... Nothing super solid yet, so I guess I'll just play around and see what works!

We're in

We are a small group of students and we will try to make something nice this weekend. Good luck to everyone!

I’m In Again

Allright, looking forward to this one. I have a reasonably clear schedule and should be able to get something going this weekend. I’ve copied in an some basecode and I already have a window and some stuff drawing in it…

(just placeholder graphics will have to replace them).. yay 4000 random trees.

One exciting wrinkle is I’m using the Oryol engine for the first time, which seems like a great engine but it’s not really suited for a game jam unless you already know it pretty well, which I don’t. But my main goal this time is to learn it, so that’s good. (Note: for game jams in general I reccommend Raylib, it’s powerful, fast and super-productive. I would be using that one if my goal was mainly to finish a game. :) ).

Anyways, good luck everyone! Not really sure where I’m going to go with this theme but we’ll see…

I'm in!

Back from 420 yesterday, about as ready as I can get.

I'm liking the theme this time around. Let's do this.

Mechanics

First some mechanics. Since the theme is "A Small World" I want to make a game about the smallest of the worlds, the quantum world. I don't have a clear game in my mind yet but these are some ideas:

  • I don't want to make a fully physically realistic game. Having something even "inspired" on quantum mechanics would work
  • There are some weird effects of quantum mechanics. I'd like to use some like: entanglement, wave particle duality, Heisenberg uncertainty principle, quantum consciousness
  • I would like to make a puzzle game or maybe a platformer
  • Each level would teach a new mechanic, maybe some levels in between as buffers
  • Mixing mechanics would be great

This for now. I'm going to think a bit more about this and start coding something.

Idea Springboard

Here are some pictures I'm using as inspiration for my game idea. So far so good!

Streaming development of an RTS in Unity3D!

Watch here!

My plan is to make a simple RTS on a small planet. There are two factions that are trying to gain control of the planet. Each faction is made up of a bunch of pawns that are at the mercy of their fearless leaders. There are outposts spread around the planet that they can capture to spawn more pawns. The first faction to capture the planet wins!

Starting Now!

Starting with a blank Defold ( http://www.defold.com/ ) project with a slightly custom render script and nothing else. Still brainstorming ideas based on the theme.

Using the beta of editor 2 of Defold so there might be some bugs but it will be useful to report as I work!

I'M IN!

This is my first LD, and I mean to make something! I'm still struggling about this theme, though.:joy:

Pull out my Wacom Bamboo, launch the Unity3D and Photoshop. Let's do it!

First Time

Hi, we’re participating for the first time! It’s pretty late now, and after a full work day it’s not going to be easy, but we’ll try!
