LD20 April 29–May 2, 2011

I am.. “in”

So, I will give Ludum Dare a try, I love what everyone has created during the competitions. I am not sure if it will be the competition or the Jam, still need to hear from a friend. I’ve got a good experience with C++, Java and Unity, but I think that Flash is the way to deliver quickly. Anyway, here are my tools of choice.

  • FlashDevelop
  • Flixel or Flashpunk (still need to slash through some tutorials)
  • Gimp
  • SFRX
  • Never created any music. I am thinking about beatboxing on a mic and then fixing it with Audacity.. or not
  • Girlfriend to bring food (which will cost me a lot later)
  • Hyperactive coffe mode

Well, let’s see what I can come up with. See ya!

My First LD, So Exciting!

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Libraries: Libgdx (cross platform Java game engine, also for Android)

Visuals: Inkscape Gimp

Sounds: SFXR, Audacity, LMMS

Looking forward to this!

GOOD LUCK! You’re gonna have a blast!

The part where I declare my intent.

I missed LD 19. I bombed LD 18. I did well in LD 17. My debut was LD 16.

I’m going to turn this around and make LD20 my biznatch.

Something is different this time. I can… feel it. But I can’t quite put my finger on it. It feels like we’re going where the going is gonna be gone before we even get there. Maybe we’re blazing blindly towards a blank horizon on the backs of beasts of burden… oh so brazenly. Maybe this time… Maybe this time… things are gonna be different.

Or perhaps I’m wrong. Perhaps we’re all just milling about in an incandescent pool of transendental insubstantiation.

Either way, I’M IN IT TO WIN IT.

I have a full suite of tools and I’m not sure what I’ll be doing.
XNA, Unity, Game Maker, Python, Flash…
Maya, 3DSMax, Mudbox, Zbrush, Motion Builder, Photoshop, Gimp…
Pro Tools, FL Studio, SFXR…

See ya on the battlefield, suckaz.

For a second there I thought you were singing to a Glee tune

My first Ludum Dare

I will do everything in Haxe on FlashDevelop and it will be compiled in Flash and if I can, I will try to compile it in C++ :D. I might use Nape to do the physic but I’m still deciding. I will use sfxr for the music like almost everybody in this competition. I think I will use Chronolapse to do a video of my 48 hours.

(Sorry if I did some mistakes, I speak french and I’m still learning english, don’t be affraid to correct me)

Welcome! And dont worry, half the people around here doesnt speak english as their native languaje ^^

IN !!!

It’s my first LD, i’ll will use:

Plataform: Flash

IDE: FlashDevelop

Libraries: Flixel

Graphics: GIMP

Sounds: Audacity and sfxr

Oh my GAWD :D

this is my friend and my’s first entry to the Ludum dare jam.

We’re so excited XD

btw: we will mainly be using gamemaker for coding, but probably also using other programs for sounds and graphic.

I’m in!………maybe

As of now, my schedule is looking pretty good. So, unless the theme is awful or pointless, I’ll probably be participating. I might work up a multiplayer web-based game using PHP and MySQL, much like the ones on my website. I could throw some JavaScript at it and make it all AJAX-y. Alternaly, I could develop something in Flash, an actual real-time game. I could do something in Inform 6, which I know, or Inform 7, which I’m learning. I could even write something in ChoiceScript…or if I really wanted to go all-out, DirectX. I guess we’ll see!

I’m totaly IN!

I found Ludum Dare, I thought: “awesome”, I decided to be part of it.

So I’m in for the first time, probably not prepared enough.

I’m going to create a java applet (maybe using an 2D engine) and use the following tools:

Eclipse

Audacity + sfxr

Gimp

If something else comes my way, I’ll add it here.

Have fun everyone.

Ludum Dare 20 Woooo!

So here it is, the 20th Ludum Dare. Do I have any idea what kind of game I am going to make? No.

Will that stop me? HELL NO! 😀

LET’S DO THIS!

Weapons:

FlashPunk
FlashDevelop

And so that people actually see this post instead of skimming past it, have a picture of my cat :3

My kitty :3

Pretty kitty

I might join the fun

I tend to plan far too complex games, that’s why I’ve screwed the LD19 (I got mad at myself and dropped the LD). I’ll give it a shot at LD20, with less expectations and, hopefully, slightly better results.

Coding: Flash(AS3) using vi + Flex + Flixel

Graphics: OpenCanvas + GIMP

Audio: SFXR + Audacity

Music: musagi

Good luck to you all, see you there!

(And all you space fans out there – don’t forget to watch the STS-134 Endeavour launch, it’s just a few hours prior to the LD20.)

I am in

I shall join the fun. Missed out on quite a few events recently and I very excited that I have the week before LD off, so I will definitely have enough time over the weekend.

I will use:
C programming language
Allegro game library
text editor – scribes, geany maybe scite
Gimp, Inkscape, Blender – I never know what kind of graphics I might want to do
Linux OS

Never actually got far enough with the game, to start making sounds and music, so I don’t really know, what I’d use for that. Any suggestions?

PS:
Might even use OpenCV for a video interface, if I get a good idea for it.

Yeah, ok. I’m in.

I entered the Jam for LD #18 and MiniLD #25 with my friend Dan C, but I think the time has come to graduate to the competition proper. I daren’t imagine what kind of dross I shall end up producing, but I’m sure it’ll be fun.

Platform: Flash

IDE: Either FlashBuilder or IntelliJ IDEA

Libraries: Flashpunk

Graphics: Inkscape

Audio: sfxr (and I’ll have to figure out how to make some terrible music)

My intentions

This is me saying that I’m doing the Ludum Dare. It’s for the first time and I just found this last night, so we’ll see how it goes. I’m a bored high school student and my BIIF championship for track is this weekend, so we’ll see how fast I can code in a day and a half.

Language: It’s all going to be done in C++

Libraries: I’ll be using the Irrlicht game engine for my graphics, IrrKlang for sound, and possibly Newton for physics.

Graphics: All my graphics will be done in gimp and/or blender.

Platform: A terrible, half-broken windows laptop with an Ubuntu VM. But it still owns any Mac computer.

Additional Base Code: I am using Irrlicht and Newton, but I made/am working on this cool framework that uses them together in an easy-to-use way. The rules of the competition say I can use it as long as I declare it before the competition, so here is me saying that I’m using it! The files, including the source (do with it what you will), is below. P.S. it’s compiled with GCC in code blocks.

Tool question….

Hey all…

I’ve been thinking about this and can’t seem to find a good answer inside myself…

I have this small framework I’ve used in previous competitions, available to everybody, etc… It’s just some init code, camera stuff, 2d blits, etc…

Thing is, I’ve been working on my 3d skills and I wanted to get some characters into that framework, but to get skinned characters (and animations) into the mini-framework I’ll have to do an exporter from 3d Studio… I already have one for my engine that I use for work stuff, and I can use it legally… So I can export on the proprietary format, so I can do an importer for that format…

So the question is, can I use that? Can I use my custom exporter without supplying it to anybody, so I can use 3d for real?

I can see arguments that allow me, and others that don’t, so I’d like your input on this… If I had more time available, I’d just create a silly exporter thing for 3d Studio and supply that with my framework (not sure if I could legally, since it uses the maxsdk which isn’t closed source and under NDA), but with my current workload and time available ’till the compo, it’s impossible for me.

So, what you guys think? Can I use my exporter as a tool, even if it’s not available for everybody?

From the rules: “All libraries, middleware, content creation, and development tools are allowed.”

I don’t think anyone would have a problem with that. It’s part of your media creation pipeline and that has never really been subject to the rules on “supply all sourcecode” that governs your game code.

Wait for me

Hey.. I will try to participate as well (I m not sure my gf will allow me to work but I will try :) ).

I will be using:

-Eclipse with  java for android
-Blender and photoshop
-Enceladus3d game library  (which is mine and closed at the moment… I just can’t share it.  But since I will be doing it for fun I don’t really mind if I end up on the jam session only)

First timer too

This will be my first Ludum Dare competition, and I am excited.

Platform: Java and Android

IDE: Eclipse

Libraries: LibGDX for cross platform and Android compatibility, and any other open source software I might deem necessary at the time. Is that allowed?

Graphics: Crayon’s and spit

Audio: My dog singing into the micrphone

First time, be gentle

So it’s my first Ludum Dare. I’ve been a fan of the Dare for awhile now, as it’s introduced me to a lot of great games. Now I want to contribute one, if I can manage. My weapons of choice are Gamemaker and MSPaint, and as for audio, dunno yet. I’ll scoop something together.

So all in all, howdy and hello, and see you in the compo.

Gettin’ ready.

I’ve got snacks. I’ve got HGE. I’ve got visual studio and Visual Assist.

I’ve got everything I need. And this time I’ll totally finish my entry…. Maybe.

Steve Out.

New guy cometh

Hi there.

This will be my first try at a Ludum Dare competition. I did a small entry for the last MiniLD, but now I am getting ready for the real deal… I will be working from Norway, which makes the timeframe of the competition a little less than optimal. I will be getting up at 4 in the morning at saturday to join in at the beginning. I also got monday off at work so that I can sleep out. To make matters even worse, I will be attending some meetings during saturday. Hopefully these obstacles will not stop me from making a good game during the weekend.

My weapon of choice will be as follows:

  • Language: JavaScript
  • IDE: Eclipse
  • Framework: ImpactJS
  • Graphics: Photoshop
  • Sound: SFXR / Audacity

Best of luck to you all !

Scaffolding Code

Obeying to the rules I have to release my scaffolding code that I will use in the compo.

So here you can download the XCode project with all the scaffolding code that I will use. If you want to compile it, make sure you have SDL, SDL_image, SDL_ttf and SDL_mixer installed in your /Library/Frameworks folder. Also make sure to undo the music loading in the constructor of the class, because I did not want to add the 8MB test music file to save bandwith.

Other than that this is just plain simple C++ scaffolding code with a basic game loop, simple image loading helper functions, initialized everything basic to directly begin with the main game. Took me 3 hours to build up and it’s free to use for whatever reason you have.
