Day 1 - MVP

Brainstormed with my best friend @LadyMistLeaf last night, we came up with a handfull of ideas that would fit our Ludum Dare first-timer situation. We each chose one for our individual Compo.

This morning, after taking a couple of hours at the hospital with my 3-year-old (he's fine now), I was able to start on the game. However, getting a logical gameplay that fit the theme with the tower defense-ish game I chose to make was tricky/tacky.

So I decided to start over with a puzzle/strategy game instead. I now have an MVP! Tomorrow I'll be able to focus on polish (Menus, Sprites, Sounds, etc.)

Lil sneak peek

After a years-long hiatus, this is my seventh? Ludum Dare. I'm making a game about ritual human sacrifice. Here's the title logo.

Day 1: Avoiding the obvious

The theme wasn't simple for me. I got invaded by obvious idea (godgame, using others as resources, etc...). But here it goes and it's starting to look like a game.799a79f0fa7f896f8bf968682c46a01c.png

Done for today

I got my basic game mechanics. Tomorrow I'll do polish and add win and loss conditions.

Any artists out there that could give me a hand?

I'm coding as fast as I can but I can't draw worth a damn. See evidence right over this text. I'm using placeholder art and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to publish still using that. So pretty please? Help me finish "The Trolley Sacrifice"? I don't need many graphics or complicated but since I know nothing about creating assets I don't want to underestimate the effort that goes into it. I need a looping background 1 dude 5 to 8 icons and a trolley/train car.

Time to make a gimmick

I'm making a text adventure where the texture is projected onto a physical monitor, right now just making sure it works AS a text adventure, spent a few hours getting this done, gonna take a break for now though.

How do i publish my game?

Hello, I've finished the My Game, but how do I publish it and where do I provide the source code for the compo? Thank you very much, Have a great rest of the jam!

Halfway there (5 hours in)

Will not have too many hours to sink into the jam this weekend. Started with a complex design, then asked a friend for ideas and switched to this:

The color mixing is still wrong. Could not find functional code for a RYB color space which supports natural'ish mixing. The mixture does not get darker as it should. Hack fix coming up.

A bigger issue is the lack of thematic connection. Currently the design dictates a set of target colors to reach by sacrificing other colors, but that is certainly a reach of its own.

Hmm, decision to do tomorrow as well as ample hacking.

The Howling Cold

Even in the snowy mountains of nowhere sacrifices must be made

Initial mapping out of our game, Exposure. Not gonna spill too much but, it has been quite the adventure creating this. "The cold darkness can make anyone a little insane."

Cook is in the oven!

Cook is well on its way to being done! Everything about the gameplay is super secret, but I made a less cluttered cover. Again, what am I doing using my time on cover images.

I hope everyone else is doing well too.

Good luck!

End of day 1

Done: title screen, character controls, wall mechanics, (most) climbing mechanics, inventory system, item eat/use system. Tomorrow: more climbing objects, finish item graphics, add gate+key system, build 2-3 levels.

(title screen is shit atm, i know)

Menu

It feels awfully weird not to be doing the menu in the last five minutes because I've forgotten about it. Anyway, here's what it looks like. Just need to iron out a couple more bugs, then I can work on the intro cutscene and more levels. menu.JPG

Jam 1 Day In Update

We've been on that epic grind. With a lot of textures made. Lot's of code written and a couple of songs lost due to crashes, we're well on our wayyeehawjasdf.png
