Sacrifice must be Maid

Going to do a sort of trick-taking card game about Maids called Sacrifices Must Be Maid

About the Theme

So this jam's theme is interesting, but at the same time, a bit abstract to build a game on.

What I'm thinking is maybe have an exploration-based game where you enter a cave or a manor with plenty of resources, but you have to make tradeoffs (maybe give up a few items, or some health?) in order to keep going, and to eventually, escape.

It's a bit of a stretch, but the theme surprised me a bit, so I'm still in brainstorming mode here.

I have a question :v

Guys, is this theme about self-sacrifice? or could it also be about sacrificing other people for their own benefit?

hmmmm

One hour in and making good progress :)

One hour into ludumdare and I'm feelin confident. Thankfully the theme fits into my game idea so I could just start chugging away at art!

My game is called Gossip. It's a game about sacrificing your friends to get to the one you love

In my first hour I made a capsule man in a chair, as well as a cute speech bubble.

Ludum Dare 43

I'm in!

This is my 4th Ludum Dare. It's a little hard to believe... This time, I'll try to make a game that feels 'cozy.' Wish me luck!

Good Luck

I got through the planning and was about to start a project when I remembered I won't have the time to participate this time, but I wish I did. Best of luck to all the people who do have the time!

Amazing idea

I have come up with an amazing idea about Victorian England and a particular fiction novel...

I recall somebody distinctly saying they wanted to follow my progress. Here's I!

"#LUDUM43HBcompo Things are going well. No gameplay or story decided on yet, but all my base-building is going without hitches. I should have an idea for the theme really soon."

More on my Twitter, also called Hindbodes. No idea suggestions please! I want to come up with a really good one all by myself.

Cubs Studio ! Sacrifices must be made

LudumemDare/em03.jpg We just found the Gameplay and now let's start the prod! :video_game: :grinning: Have fun everyone! :D With @Delhaize

Ideas Must Be Sacrificed

Idea One:

God Game. You're a god, leading/protecting a small country. You need your people to build temples and fight in wars, but you also need to sacrifice them to power your Acts Of God. Probably too on the nose

Idea Two:

Platformer. You're a parent leading your family to safety, but every time you would have been killed by a trap or enemy, one of your children takes the hit in your place. Too dark?

Idea Three:

Top-Down 2D. Exploring a dungeon, but sometimes to open a door you must activate a button by leaving a weapon behind holding it down. But if you run out of ammo you can run back to the previous area and pick up an older weapon (but now what? Go back to town and buy more equipment and try to get a little farther?). And maybe to pick up an item in a treasure room, you have to leave something behind to take its place (Raiders of the Lost Arc style). Could end up with very slow progression after a while.

Idea Four:

Sim. You're managing humanity's first great experimental space-station, when a calamity annihilate's Earth. No more resource rockets are coming, and you don't have enough food/water/energy to keep the station running at full capacity anymore. You have to choose which sections to power down, and which (if any) research projects to continue providing resources for. Wait, isn't this just Frostpunk in space?

Idea Five:

Story. Choose your own adventure style. Given several options, make your choice. Some choices require you to give something up, or for others to make sacrifices. Can you get to the good ending? IS there a good ending?! My writer friends would choose this option.

I have a lot of ideas but they're all trash

A worrying amount have to do with bombs

Here's some relevant games/mechanics that come to mind:

  • Lemmings - a puzzle game about trying to get dozens of creatures to the level exit by sometimes sacrificing some of them

  • Nidhogg - a competitive fencing game about getting to be eaten by a giant worm

  • Life Goes On: Done to Death - a puzzle game about dying, respawning and using your previous dead body to proceed

  • Burnout - Crash Mode, a gamemode where you crash a car into a busy intersection for points

  • Star Control 2 - a game where you're the captain of a massive spaceship with hundreds of crew members. they act as your healthbar in space battles.

  • Killstreak bonuses

  • Strategy games in general

There's also the narrative theme of death itself but idk how I'd make that into a game https://youtu.be/cZYNADOHhVY

Got the concept. Damn.

Finally got the concept for my game, what an amazing feeling. I really like the theme even though it's a bit generic. So now it's time to get started. Good luck everyone!

My idea!

I have an idea!

You are in a fantasy city overtaken by evil doers (and you are one of them) that ships in sacrifices to plant them and then harvest the organs and bake them or sell. Basically, a more f*cked up version of Harvest Moon.

:)

A final idea now!

We're a first time group so we don't have any existing code ready (like fools we decided to make it on the spot), but it seems to be going well. We chose an idea focusing on slimes and the quest for treasure: all true adventurers sacrifice slimes to get what they want, right? Our concept slime: slime1.png

We're working on our sprites now, and after this tileset is finished, its the end of the first night for us.

1 Hr & a half in and still no concept...

I was really hoping to not get this theme but I'll try to make it work. I have basically no ideas and I am sitting on a blank GameMaker: Studio Project wondering what it could be. Wish me some luck!
