End of Day 1

I have a solid idea for a game, and I've assembled a number of Creative Commons assets to realize my vision. My plan this time is a bit ambitious. Hopefully, I will be able to complete the game with my available time. Also, I've decided to do a bit of a trial by fire. I will be transitioning from using Phaser 2 to using Phaser 3 this weekend. If I'm very luck, this decision won't come back to haunt me tomorrow.

Good night all, and good luck!

Let's go Quentin

Miss only one member, and that's you, bootleg boy.

LD43 - Start

So, it's Sacrifices Must be made. Not my favourite theme, but it's ok. I remember now, that I failed one LD because of some really uninspiring theme.

After some brainstorming (sorry, it's in Russian, but I'll try to explain it), I've got few ideas. Monsters demanding a sacrifice from the village (meh), Saw-like puzzle with characters with different abilities (sounds ok, but it's overkill for two days), Evil God who needs fresh sacrifices - you can sacrifice your own people or raid other villages for them (meh x2).

And finally - escape capsule in space, with survivors. You must keep them (at least, some of them) alive before you're getting rescued. You can toggle oxygen, power, heat and other stuff in different capsule sectors. And you just don't have enough power for all of it. That sounds like fun and you can jettison dead bodies in space - how can I not try to make this game? :)

So, it's time to launch Unreal and start prototyping.

sadness ensues

this is the worst theme in my opinion, i cant figure out ANY good ideas this time, i guess ill just make some random themed game then... LD still managed to get me developing a game though :)

Ok, here we go.

My ideas

I have an idea of some fruits that ned to sacrifice on a blender to help a man 1257fc6514417fb.jpg

My second C64 game for LDJAM

I'll do another BASIC game for C64. It'll be called Maze of Death. The game idea works in my head, we'll see, if it does.

Just woke up.

Well. This LD i try to make things little more slowly. Why, you ask? Well... It is past experience. Last few LD i failed, so here i prepared lists of things which i did wrong

Before you start reading, i am not native english speaker so i apologize for all mistakes in my grammar. I learned mostly from bad fansub and famiclone games

  • I was not taking my meds too often. So my depression was BIG problem.

  • I set my alarm clock directly after LD jam started, so i did not had much sleep. And that was horrible for start.

  • I thought big doses of caffeine will boost my productivity. And it was exact opposite. I had panic attacks and my mind literally not worked

  • I also thought small doses of alcohol will boost my creativity.. Nope... Small doses of alcohol created big dose of alcohol and instead of making games, i was watching furry porn... Don't ask me why please.

So, what is different?

Well, first i set my alarm correctly, so i got 8 and hours of sleep and one hour of lying in bed  Then i checked theme, and while i was thinking about it, i started preparing for developing.

First i looked trough window and saw this... (suitable for first day of december )

So, when is snow outside, men must first make fire!

So, i am now warm, fully woken up. What next? Ohoo, breakfast. Because i almost stopped drink energy drinks and coffee, i needed some more friendly drug, so i bought guarana and some fruits.

And some donuts. Because sugar gives food to brain too. So, here, my breakfast. Guarana-kiwi drink and donuts.

And last but not least, post it notes for wild ideas.

So, now i am fully ready.

Beginners tip

My last ludum dare failed, because I realised halfway through that my plans were too big. I had planned three minigames that worked together, but I would never have enough time. It is better to get something out there, rather than go too large, and then give up halfway through. I do not want to discourage, but especially if you're working alone, try and keep it to something you know you can finish.

There is going to be plenty of work to get through, even for the smallest idea. Good luck!

NO IDEA AND NO TIME???

I don't have a lot of time for this Ludum Dare Jam and the theme isn't that good. Should I participate or not? If yes then I need an idea. If not then... not, :/

Not that one!

Just woken up to the theme. First thoughts: blank mcblanky blank. Now I have found an idea that might just be interesting...here we go.

My inspiration

I was inspired by a game called windowed(at least I think so). It was featured on ludum dare.

In my game you work with Windows and Windows10 (kinda). It breaks the fourth wall a lot.

Optimistic Nutty has a plan!

Here we go. 40 minutes in I found my idea, spent the last hour building it up on some paper. It's going to be a top-down galaga-like bullet hell game with a fun twist. Gonna go out and buy some supplies (pizza) and get going with the prototype. Good luck to you all!

Progress 6.5 hours in

I'm a bit nervous because the idea I have so far is a puzzle game. It's very different from what I did before so it's very hard for me to assess whether it will be a fun puzzle game or not. So, what I decided is, that unlike last time, where I started by coming up with the art style and story for the game, this time I'll start with a very basic prototype that contains no story and the most basic art, and start iterating on that to make sure the gameplay is fun.

This is what my prototype looks like at this point: prototype_animated.gif

Now I'll try to design a few levels to see if this is a fun idea or not. If it seems fun, I'll start implementing a version that looks more decent tomorrow morning. If it's not, I'll have to start from scratch 😲

Good morning Ludum Darers

I'm very hungover from yesterday. But let's make a game!!!

So excited

I forgot?!

Gah, how could I have forgotten about LD? I probably won't have time to make something now, especially considering I have to work this weekend.

But... sigh Sacrifices must be made, I guess. I'll do what I can...
