LD 44 April 26–29, 2019

Done

As usual, I am in! I rated many themes about space, time, floating islands, feelings, etc - some of them seem really interesting. So the next LD could be awesome - I hope that. I wish you the best, my dear friends. See you later ++

Icon.png Hi, I need you to take part in this survey, because I have some problems with releasing this to the public. Please, let me know if something needs to be changed. I'm currently working on the trailer for this demo. Take a look. Annotation 2019-04-20 204415.jpg

Thank you!

Lets do this!

The last jam/compo I was super excited to try. However, due to computer problems I was unable to complete. This is not a problem this time I have a new computer and am ready. Lets do this!

I'm in, I think.

I will try to request 2 days of vacation for work only for the ludum dare.

I need make a game.

Burning themes at the stake

I even sacrificed one of my own suggestions... maybe we will finally get a rightful theme that this jam deserves. 20-4-2019 22-13-21.png

6 Days and Counting...

Hi everybody! This is my first Ludum Dare, not sure what to expect and am fairly new to game dev, I've put together about half a dozen proof of concepts. I've been coding for quite a while though (professionally for about 10 years.)

Game engine wise I'll probably be using C# Unity but I've used Java with LWGL and C++ OpenGL in the past.

Just finished some brutal slaughtering :crossed_swords: of themes (can't remember which themes I put forward.)

Some of you have a mad sense of humour and I get the sense that floating islands and derivatives of that are fairly common occurrences

Looking forward to LD44, ONLY 6 DAYS!

Have a great weekend and good luck for next week! :v:

Jam or exam?

hi this is my first ludum dare, i have so much work to do before my exams but i really want to participate. I will use Lua/love2D. Good luck everyone!

I'm in for the Compo! And gonna try streaming!

It's been a while since I've done Ludum Dare (my last one was LD 35, which was three years ago. Cut it out, time). But I've always loved game jams and am excited to participate again! I now am a full time video game producer, so I'm excited to make something for fun instead of work!

I'll be using Unity, Photoshop, and some music/sfx generation tools -- probably bfxr and Fake Music Generator. Maybe a dash of Flash for animation if needed.

I also want to try to be more active in recording my development process this year, so I'll be streaming at twitch.tv/carlsonandpeeters and tweeting at twitter.com/jcoopermoore, as well as hopefully writing some blog posts with progress updates here.

Looking forward to jamming with you all!

Let's analize the Slaughter round.

My teammate and I have finished our Slaughter Round by about a day ago. 44Slaughter.png

I want to say several things about the sugested themes.

First of all there is about 20 themes with completely inappropriate words from filthy language. Let's be honest this is not that place, where we should use such language. Also I flaged everything that seemed to me connected to inappropriate themes I mean something (21+ or R-rated not just for blood). There are so many participants much younger. And there are much more young people playing our games and reading our final Ludum Dare themes. So I want to ask authors of these themes: "Are you shure that you want turn Ludum Dare to one of those R-rated jams?" I really hope that I was too suspicious and have flaged several (or even many) harmless themes. But I really ask you to think twice about your themes next time.

Second thing to discuss is grate number of one-word themes with very popular words. There is a list of words used in all of the themes, that were used 10 or more times. I will put the list at the end of the post. But for example there were such themes: "infinifinity", "Infinite", "infinity", "balance", "Balance is everything", "Balance is key", "Balance is the key", "The balance!!" and "The key is balance". At one moment my team was suspecting that we are fighting Marvel's Thanos with his love to Balance, Infinity, Death and etc. And again I want to ask you: "Are you suggesting themes just to suggest something or do you really think that you ideas are that intresting to let them be the theme of the LD round?". To be honest, I'm not shure that I still like my themes that much to suggest them at least once more. I still love them but I have found several themes that express similar ideas a bit more elegant.

So here we go. The list of popular words (just lowered. We dont count dead-death and live-life as one common idea of themes): you 234 it 147 one 117 your 101 game 85 time 79 world 78 only 58 what 57 don't 54 out 47 life 44 up 44 it's 44 everything 43 with 41 more 38 all 36 this 36 that 35 control 34 something 33 light 33 can 32 go 32 down 31 two 29 space 28 nothing 28 can't 27 death 27 there 27 have 27 new 26 player 25 good 25 i 25 me 24 do 24 power 23 end 22 make 22 many 21 keep 21 better 20 things 20 than 20 running 20 my 19 different 19 dark 19 enemy 19 back 19 win 19 bad 18 together 18 get 18 small 18 like 18 we 17 old 17 die 17 just 16 faster 16 without 16 see 16 genre 16 lost 16 key 16 will 16 change 15 1 15 first 15 2 15 rules 15 less 15 kill 15 use 15 worlds 15 vs 15 unconventional 15 you're 14 friend 14 always 14 build 14 deep 14 here 13 must 13 mechanic 13 way 13 thing 13 future 13 going 13 mind 12 stop 12 against 12 balance 12 inside 12 alone 12 changing 12 simple 12 love 12 big 12 makes 12 day 12 doesn't 12 based 12 lose 12 hero 11 gameplay11 another 11 music 11 color 11 darkness11 story 11 play 11 button 11 let 11 theme 11 controls11 limited 10 never 10 room 10 how 10 wrong 10 them 10 side 10 top 10 mine 10 has 10 right 10 enemies 10 was 10 floating 10 environment 10 fake 10 live 10 take 10 slow 10 madness 10 being 10 fall 10 past 10 perspective 10 movement 10 breaking 10 moving 10 fast 10 physics 10 smaller 10 seconds 10 move 10 own 10 fire 10

Competing again yay

This is a new account, but I’ve competed in 3 or 4 other jams. I feel like my game developing skills have really gotten better and I hope to make an fun and polished game for you guys to enjoy! I have a really cool idea for a game already and it kinda shaped how I voted in the slaughter round. I’m hoping the theme is a flat earth or moon or something related to that, because my idea is a modern retro story game where you have to successfully fake the moon landing because the earth is actually flat. Of course odds of the theme being exactly what I want is quite slim. If the theme is something else, I’ll probably make the game anyway after the jam, and keep you guys updated on it here and on my itch account: https://copper-aardvark-games.itch.io/ And I’d still be up to whatever challenge the theme gives! Good luck everyone!

Theme Suggestion Suggestion

maybe only 1 theme suggestion per person? 4,000 submissions to comb through was a lot, nevermind the fact that only like 10% of them weren't duplicates or throwaways.

Trying Again

I was a bit too ambitious the last time I did this and ended up giving up, so hopefully I can plan better for this one! GLHF

We Paper The Walls With Paper

I at last got around to applying the finishing touches to what, in the end, is a pretty minimalist wallpaper for Ludum Dare 44. I carried over the list of tips (and graphics-related pet peeves of mine) that I had thrown onto my Ludum Dare 43 wallpaper, but for this one they're actually readable. Like last time, I have two variations: a bright and a dark theme, and I made sure to have both 4k and HD resolutions available.

Need Help

Dear game developers, hello, I am a freshman from China. I am planning to participate in LD45Jam. I am going to take a look at the LD44 process. But I didn't find out where to sign up on the website, I hope you can help me, thank you!

first ludum dare

After constantly putting it off I have finally decided to actually participate in my first ludum dare. I don't have incredibly high hopes for my performance as I'm a far cry from an expert in gamemaker but I'm going to give it a shot anyways and try and get a finished product done in the 48 hours.

Also I was wondering if anyone who has livestreamed their participation in the past had any tips or advice on the best way to manage streaming it?

Slaughtered the themes :D

Slaughter.png I am done with theme slaughtering. As you can probably tell I didn't keep a lot of themes, but that's probably because I am not creative enough to work with the others :V

These were my theme suggestions: Theme suggestions.png

But the real reason I am making this post is to give a shoutout to that one guy who suggested a theme that goes along the lines of this: "spoonman"

Hope everyone has a great Easter and a great week, and gets prepared for LD :D
