Parcels and Packages!

We've got containers! Things can now have things inside of them! There's only one more bit of framework left I have to do and then I can start making the actual game! MistyGiftedDodobird-size_restricted.gif

The Canon

tower-canon.png

well, come up with this canon while sketching on Krita, I think I'll keep it simple. already doing the frozen canon, hmm more way to go.

Frosty and Cold Status

tower-frosty.png

The ice canon tower, will have an effect of making enemies got a cold status which slows down their movement by 30% lasts 2 seconds.

YOUR life is MY currency

Well, after thinking it over and over I've decided to make a game about little but ferocious shinigami collecting human lives. Now I have my heroine: shinigami_sketch.jpg

Progress, yey!

Freeing people stuck in the limbo. Screen 1.png

I hate myself and everything

So i made an animation. For the first time. And for the first time i've used Blender. And decided to try Unity. And it sucks. Sucks because i was making the animation wrong way. I made ton of Armatures and Unity takes animation for every bone as a separate animation. >_< out.gif

Got some simple game play

I decided to take the theme literally. The player must fight monster that are always getting harder. So the player has to buy upgrades using his life to keep up with the increasing difficulty.

I got some of the art done, and I finished the movement for both the player and the enemy. Now all I have to do is everything else!

Question about using premade code / code from other sources

I am using some code I made for previous games and some code I found online. the code I used for previous games is a script that allows adjecent tiles to automatically connect. The code i found online is a pathfinding algorithm (A*) which would be a hell of a job to write by hand and would just be re-inventing the wheel as well.

I've read the rules and they note that when you use premade assets you should opt-out of the corresponding categories. My question is: Do I need to opt-out of any of the voting catagories for this?

Going good

So far it's going good. I'm making a zombie survival game where you need to upgrade your gear, and in the end escape, by paying with the souls of the zombies you kill.

I've gotten the shooting to work. You can now use different weapons with different rates of fire and spreads. Skärmbild (95).png (not final graphics if your wondering)

First LD! Any tips?

This will be my first ever LD. I kinda know what it's about, and have seen prior ones be done, but I have never tried myself. I will mainly be working in Unity and Photostop, but I might also try dabbling in some Illustrator.

Here's a quick peak at some of my initial sketches. Feedback is appreciated. :) Money Game.jpg

Progress Update #1 - Slow progress, but its getting there

Screenshot-1.png

Here's what I've got so far, spent the morning coming up with ideas and implementing the core gameplay systems. Making a card game where you spend health points on new cards to build your deck. Progress has been slow, but Its getting there.

Wanna play some dodgem? xd

Well... It's looks nothing like Diablo or any RPG right now

I hope I could implement everything today, and tomorrow will be just art & polish day.

Coming Along Nicely

This stuff is pretty WIP but if I decide it looks good for the purpose of the game till the end I'll keep it, if not it might change. Screenshot_3.png

Afternoon Progress Report

It would seem I have landed on making a game in the style of Oregon Trail.

Apr27-153330.png

Currently there is not much in there that ties the game to the theme, but the plan is to have choices in the game that explore the theme.

Good Morning, Good Morning, Its Great to Stay Up Late

I ended up going to bed last night around 2 AM. I figure at the point your forgetting what the variables in your code are there for it might be time for some shut-eye. All I really got done last night was making my scriptable objects in unity. That and I got a distracted and ended up implementing a feature that I did want in the game, but was slightly lower on my prioritys list.

So I guess at some point I gotta actually say what type of game I am making. Well fellow Jammers I am making a golf game. How you ask does a golf game fit the theme Your life is Currency I hear you cry out. Simple. You gotta win the golf tournament and claim the prize money otherwise some mobsters are gonna break every bone in your body. So turns out your life as a semi-pro golfer is worth exactly as much currency as the grand prize at the golf tournament... I know its a bit of a stretch but come on, whats a guy to do when he want's to make a golf game where your life is currency.

I've been up for about an hour and a half at this point so I am probably gonna take a quick break and eat breakfast. In the mean time I leave you with some video of my super rough golf game.

https://youtu.be/ZQ9mJ_Cj2NY

Also if your wondering why the camera is at that angle and why the field is so small. It because I am ripping of Golf for the NES. Also the cilinder is the hole in this video.

Current Progress

I've never been very good at making graphics... bandicam 2019-04-27 09-35-29-292.png - bandicam 2019-04-27 09-35-43-768.png

That's all I have so far. I guess I should really stop making blog posts and get to hustling, eh?

A wicked tale has begun

With our theme already chosen, lets begin designing our characters. :)

Getting Stuff Done

Hello everyone! This is my 4th time participating as a 2D artist, and this is one of the designs I have created for our game. I hope you all have fun, and make sure to take a break once in a while. EnemyDesign01_LD44.png

Good luck! :)

New progress report

GIF.gif

I have to say that my art is still too bad, but fortunately there are no hard problems to solve so far.

Basic mechanics working

After a morning of work, the basics mechanics are working.

The player start near some "potions", with differents colors. The green, give you speed, the yellow, jump heigth, and purple, double jump.

Crossing the black and yellow line, start the countdown. You must reach the goal, before time ends.

Next work: level design.

First little screenshot, very early

Midas Devlog 1.PNG First bit of work getting done on it now that I know what I want to do with it. No major art just want to get stuff working first.

The Front Line Arena

game-arena.png

came up with this 5 lane arena for my Tower Defense. Not good tho but I'll keep it. Now let's build the mechanic.

LD44: 12-Hour Mark - Identity Crisis!

The theme this time around is "Your Life Is Currency" and it's a bit of a doozy. At first, I thought with a theme this specific, it might be difficult to think of many workarounds to this theme. It was 9pm in my local time when the theme was announced that's when I took a bit of a nap. The theme was still swirling around in my head.

Around 2am in the morning, I woke up still thinking about currency. Currents, energy, money...Then the idea of cards started to pop up. Cards are valuable in their own way because they store pertinent info that's well-needed for everyday use whether it's for shopping or to gain access to a place. A credit card, a bus pass, an ID card, etc.

001.jpg

So I thought of a game idea where your identification card is your lifeline. You can collect and store info along the way, but you are prone to losing that card in the process. Other players could swoop in and take your card to do whatever they please and trouble ensues...like committing a crime and framing the other person, perhaps.

CardStuff.JPG

Here's a still screenshot of my progress thus far. Basic mechanics are working where you can pick up the card and collect info on it, using placeholder objects. The little box behind the character is a card slot where you can insert the card. Pretty excited for the scope on this game for the weekend. Now, on to get some breakfast...

after trying a new idea i had realy hard time to make it.i just made the art work for 3h. do u know how can i lift an actor with a mouse cursor i need it and i dont know how.im using ue4

Some Movement

Making a tile-locked platformer where the player escapes some kind of horror. They can find upgrades, but they'll make the player go mad.

The Binding

Making a based on the devil deals from Binding of Isaac. Now how to differentiate it rather then making a straight clone. LifeIsCurrency1.png

Basic Tower Defense mechanics are working now

Enemies move from point to point, perfecly working collision detection with tower range. The tower shoots at the farthest enemy in range and deals damage. Each enemy take-down grants points. ezgif.com-video-to-gif (1).gif

Making zero progress :(

I started a long time ago in the mornig brainstorming made something....deleted it. Now I am making something wich isn't working and it is getting on my nerves. It is my first game jam and I am not enjoying it in any way. :(

rednecks and aliens

Each game jam can be one of a kind. Creations may be works of art and sometimes your game leaves an everlasting fond memory in somebodies heart.

But sometimes you just don't care to make anything special; you listen to banjo blue grass and create a simple shooter about a redneck fighting against aliens. Protecting his beloved town of Currency.

Good times!

Slowly moving forward

First time using Unity , learning at every corner. Though I believe i will finish something at the end. Still long way to go. screen1.gif

What sleep? Screenshot_20190427-230637.jpg THERE SHALL BE NO SLEEP !

Progress

21 hours in - I have a character controller with dynamic animations as well as a simple level and a weapon system.

Day 2!

Now that I've gotten some sleep, I'm feeling a bit more excited to get back to work. I'm still going to start with animations, because that's how I'm going to run my attack system. For the last game I made for class, I realized that I could put a disabled trigger collider on the weapon and turn it on for the attack animation. I'd like to do the same thing here, but expand it a bit by using the animator flowchart to set up attack combos, which will be new. Funny how I decided to do animations first when I actually hate animating... But it's not so bad when it's just simple stuff like this.

LD 44 | Waves , Damage & Health

Great Progress has been made.

Now, you and the enemies have Health.

GIF_004.gif

  • Added a Wave Mechanic
  • Added Health
  • Added Damage

Now that I'm getting somewhere, I will introduce the Shop, where you will sacrifice Max Health for Damage.

Fields of Gold - An experience about Slavery in the South, pre civil war US

slave_game.PNG

I took a narrative interpretation of the theme. What I am going for is a short experience about the people who were bought, sold, traded thus making their entire lives a twisted form of currency for someone else. The point I wanted to convey was how slave labour shaped the south for centuries. The game starts out zoomed in to a cotton farm(cotton plants to be added). The game slowly zooms out as the slave ages, his speed slowing down over time. As you zoom out you see the progress of everything around you, while you remained caged - both literally and figurative in stagnation. Your life is a currency that you dont get to benefit from. Everything around you changes - except your condition.

I'm a big fan of mechanics as metaphor and I hope I manage to tackle this sensitive topic with adept hands.

Thank you. I'll post more updates.

First playable cubish prototype

Our programmers are working hard, using the Unity's navemesh to do it faster but still robust :)

Im just really poor and can't afford more furniture.

Totally not just taking forever to draw em.

My Game

Here's something I wrote down at 8:30 last night as my game idea. I followed another definition of currency: social acceptance.

He was a social outcast. He knew it. Everybody in the land of Crankville knew it. But Bileous was ready to change that. He was ready to win everybody's heart. How? Make his life increase his social currency... or risk his life fighting Crankville's major problem: deranged robot lizards.

IDK how I came up with that, all I know is that... I'm ready to carry it out!

Update #1

Little over 12 hours in and we've got our idea, mechanics, a character, and even some tunes! Will show something a bit later, but here are our streams if you wanna watch us throw together some content.

wip

made some progress but it is tiring to work alone. hope to improve the mechanics today and work on details tomorrow

wip.gif

Im still having some trouble...

I've been trying to get the animation to work since the beginning of the jam ): ScreenShot.PNGScreenShot2.PNG it just plays the idle animation once then stops.

Quite proud so far!

I'm quite proud of a base mechanics I made so far. I've never been making card game, but it even seems to work! Most of graphics are still placeholders, but I'm still working on it!

Capture.PNG

By the way, Good luck everyone! Don't give up (even if you are in dark hole now hah)!

Movement is done

Unfortuantely I'm too lazy to record a gif right now...

So, the movement is done. The next thing to work on will be the computer AI (which I've never done before btw!) and dynamic arms and legs. The character is basically a body with 4 little dots around him as arms and legs.

first prototype

gif-1.gif

making a rhythm game where all currency is time.

Around three hours in, and transitions between rooms are now working.

Room Transitions.gif

Didn't I promise you horrendous placeholder artwork? :P

Once everything is in place I'll be able to use this to generate any number of rooms and link them together to form a floor of the dungeon. Next steps are basic enemies, health and win/lose triggers, then I can move onto the procedural elements of the game and the actual implementation of the theme itself.

Day 1!

This will hopefully be the first Ludum Dare I finish!

Ill explain more about my game later when i know more about what im actaully doing, but for now: - Im Mocadium! - Im using Gamemaker:Studio! - Im using Pyxel Edit for art! - FL Studio for music and FX (maybe a little BFXR)! - Im working alone (with a little help from my fiancee)! - Its my birthday today! Here is what I've done before I go to bed: dgrdrgrdg.PNG This is a screen where you can draw... gerggerger.PNG And here is where you can run around and see your drawing in the game!

Again ill explain more when im less tired later on, but I spent most of today doing some art, then tonight working on code things like the canvas drawing!

Im also doing a timelapse of my whole jam, so hopefully it turns out well! Wish me luck!

Grey Boxing

First step is making the boat go across the river Styx. Next step adding some spirits for our boy Charon to ferry for $$$

Issue with importing *Solved*

We are trying to import an art asset but it screws up the colors of the eye and dagger on the enemy even before switching the filter to point. Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?

Untitled Piggybank Game

pig_game2.gif When you are a piggybank :pig:, your coins are your life, your weapons, your everything.

We're off to a good start for the jam. This is the first time I'm doing a team jam in a while, this is gonna be fun!

BITGRID

Hello guys, First timers here :) We come shooting for the stars with our game. It is taking shape nicely, but we still have a lot to do. The basic premise is this: strategic cryptocurrency mining with many variables like exchange rate, but also other hurdles like electricity bills, hacker attacks and Nigerian princes. Our slogan is "Convert energy into currency". Isn't that what life is all about?

Aseprite tooling for Unity

Just created a menu option in Unity to export selected .aseprite files to .png's (see gif below). aseprite_tool.gif

Might be handy for other jammers using Unity and Aseprite, feel free to tweak and use :)

Make sure to put it in a folder called Editor, so that Unity knows that it is an editor extension.

Note: This might only work on Windows because of Process.Start, but I'm not sure. ```csharp using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Diagnostics; using System.IO; using System.Linq; using UnityEditor; using UnityEngine;

public class AsepriteExporter { public readonly static string AsepritePath = @"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps
