After Dinner Progress Report

I now have a proper event system that allows for choices to be made and state to change as a result. There are also conditional choices, such as in the screenshot below - if you don't have enough bandages, option A is not allowed!

Also, you can make deals with the devil now >:)

Small progress

I'm the artist of the team of 3. controls are setup in unity, heres a quick snap of a part of our game ;)! I'm using blender, and substance painter for the models, the engfine we're working in is unity df05fe0e44f1628f9ab975cc594a8e6e.png

"Experimental Treatment", make a business out of your body

Despite the will of making an isometric game, we finally decided to make a UI based game, using Unity. We started working on it at 7h30 UTC+2, and quickly agreed on the idea. We were 5 persons to begin with, 4 now, with one graphic designer, two developers and one game designer.

In "Experimental Treatment", you will be able to live as a voluntary medical guinea pig, testing out new pills and trying to cure your own diseases. However, the pills you will try might have unexpected results, and you have to make sure that your organs do not stop working.

medical_treatment.png

We are using collab, mostly because Git is too uncomfortable with Unity. We took some time making JSON deserialization to allow non-developers to generate data we could use for the game without the need of using the Unity software.

By the way, if you happen to have cool names for fictional medicines, we need those! (Generally related to lungs, muscles, heart, brain or intestine)

Well...

I had to scrap my first idea and have to start almost completely from scratch

Progress So Far

progress.PNG

Hello, fellow jammers! Thought I'd give a small glimpse of my game so far. Basically, you are a coin. A sentient coin. You fight off waves of dungeoneering adventurers, seeking to loot you.

That's about it, I've managed to make a basic damage system, next up I'm going to implement a wave mechanic.

Good luck on the rest of the jam! Also good luck to compo participants

First Jam Attempt

Trying to do this straight solo since I don't think I'm good enough as a programmer or artist to join a team. Anyway here is my first screen shot. You play a bloodmage (how original?) who sacrifices limbs to cast spells. Cut off too many limbs - die. Lose all your defenses and constitution - die.ld_screenshot1.PNG

My progress so far

In my game (art done by a friend), a clock goes down by x every y (changes) and when it reaches 0 you die, getting coins. There are power-ups which can make the clock go faster, but you have to get back to a checkpoint. It is set in space, and you have to deal with aliens and asteroids, which will try to stop you from beating the game. It is level-based, and you get access to a shop between levels. There are two bosses and four minibosses spread across around 12-ish levels.

So, what have I done so far? Asteroids and Enemies have been implemented. This means: -Random Asteroid spawn: location, amount, sprite and speed all random -Random Enemy movement as well as enemy AI -Collisions The player can move and shoot asteroids

What Am I currently working on? I am currently working on the clock and currency

How long have we been working? We have been working ~6 and a half hours, omitting all breaks for Lunch and to make this post

First Look...

Hey guys, we are working in a 2D platform, where our main character was traped in a forest by a curse (or something like that), that turned his heart into a coin, and he needs to overcome this situation. Here is a litle bit of the narrative.

"The Forest of the Lost Hearts has for many years attracted my its prey and imprisioned those who have corrupted behavior. This night it has taken another one to its domain, a greed man, a pride man, the forest has cursed the man, taking his heart and turning into a gold coin. With the coin in the air, the wispers of the forest said “Your choices brings you here, and these choices will keep you here.” Now the man has to find the coin, take it back; so he can live again."

This is the first look.

Lost Hearts - 01.png

Team... - Design: Gustavo Christino; - Graphics: Fábio Beifuss; - Narrative: Henrique Moreno; - Programming: Murilo Bueno; - Others Areas: Everbody.

Things are progressing nicely!

Because 15 Minutes to Live is a story-driven adventure game, I don't have much to show off in terms of gameplay. I've spent the last six hours building the world and writing NPC dialogue, and I'm still not done. But I can show off some of said NPC dialogue!

dialogue.png

My dialogue system is extremely hacky, but it works. Maybe I'll go into more detail about it post-jam. The advantage is that I can crank out dialogue very quickly, which is good, because there's gonna be a lot of it. I like the juxtaposition of a short, frantic time limit, and long conversations that you can't button-mash your way through because what's being said might actually be important!

Going back while going foward

Playing around while planning the UI on paper since one of our pcs just died. :)

Wager

Hi Ludum Dare, long time no see! This is my first compo for a while.

I'm still not sure how this is going to work yet, but the premise is that at the start of the level, the player makes a bet on how many resources and lives are needed to complete it. They can spent their hearts on resources like jetpack fuel, and also to buy gems. At the end of the game, the number of collected gems are all that matters.

wager_0.gif

Going Well!

Screen Shot 2019-04-27 at 11.57.42 AM.png My idea is a roguelike where your health and money are the same stat You can buy things at shops but they cost health instead of money

Also there is a giant death lazer :)

Does anyone have a good playlist to listen to?

First Progress

progress-1(4).gif

so on this first progress, I already have 4 towers, 3 enemies (no animation yet tho), some bullets with it's particle system, tower spawn, shoot and die mechanic including it's state to observes enemies on it's range which use block.

I also finish the bullet fx like Cold system that slows down enemy movement for 2 secs. done the pickups and hp handling, also the simple gui to purchase structures.

I'm tired now, so I think it's enough for today. I have more stufs to do so let's see on the next progress.

(I use vid to gif converter so the quality is really bad because to achieve 10 secs it's need more than 4mb and ld only accept under 4mb file)

Some results from the first day

Gosh, the first day almost comes to an end and I can't decide whether I should go to sleep or continue our work  It's the first time our team attends Ludum Dare game jam (or any game jams ever). The hardest part so far was to come up with the idea, especially the one at least a bit related to the theme. It's like five stages: 1. Denial 1. Anger 1. Bargaining 1. Depression 1. Let's do a platformer!

So it'll be it.

Here's the sketch from our artist (https://ldjam.com/users/catangens): ld44_draft.jpg

Starting over

Anybody else having problems with Tiled 1.2.3? I've reinstalled it more than once to overcome this problem but every time I close and reopen it crashes and won't open, forcing me to reinstall it again. On top of that I cannot access custom properties from my tilemap in LibGDX. I also wasted 2 hours just to find out that the render order is always right-up instead of what it says, right-down. I've spent way too much time just trying to navigate around errors so I'm going to start over again and decrease my scope a bit.

Back from Lunch

We're back from lunch, and back to work!

Day 1.5

After a good nights sleep lets get back to it!

Making Some Good Progress :)

The core game is pretty much done! Now on to the polishing, animations, additional art and SFX... yikes

MidDay2.gif

What my game is about!

It's a classic arena style game where monsters come from everywhere! You start with a mere 5 hp, but you get another 5 everytime you finish an arena! Before every battle starts, you can choose to spend your hp to buy weapons, each with their own stats and unique abilities!

Making progress!

This is my fifth time doing Ludum Dare and the second time I'm making a game with a crew this small. We're "only" 3 people this time, last time we were four but the time before that we were eight so I've sorta grown used to being more people. Being this few people is releiving though since you feel like you have fewer distractions.

This is my first time doing 2d art for a Ludum Dare game though, since I usually do 3D, and so far it's a lot of fun. The drill below is the first asset I've finished completely for the game. I have some other stuff I'm working on but they're not finished yet so you'll have to wait.

Drill.gif

Crash...

Yeah, so my browser crashed and I lost a big chunk of my game... I was constantly saving, I don't know why p5 editor says Saved: 4 hours ago. I feel totally uninspired. But maybe a good thing is that I'm making a timelapse, so maybe I can rewrite my code.

Late but in.

It's seems like it's going to be a lot of rain this weekend. I guess I'll spend a couple of hours jamming.

Added enemies ?

Day 1 progress

ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif

This is all I have done today. Last time I joined LD I made a metroidvania, but this time I had no time for such a big project, so I decided to make a simple arcade game, something I have made so many I can almost surely get it finished by the deadline.

Oh, and I'm doing compo, so only 29 hours left! Should be enough. Maybe not for audio, but for everything else.

(Also, don't make me explain the concept. There are some vital elements missing so it's hard to explain, so why I even try.)

Demoness 2D Kawai Gothic

1.png

Hi there!

I need a painter. Who likes gothic, and maybe kawai anime witches. Contact me please!

idea is like this: 2.png

Main character is demoness, witch. Need 2D Tiles of dungeons, characters. In 2D style, 64 X 64 pixels. Some references from web.

Examples.png

This is 2D isometric game. Like bomberman in some way. But gothic, dark style, a little kawai anime style.

Tags: Dark gothic, gothic castles, dark dungeon. kawai witch, giger-style, dark romance style.

This is my try for this LD44.

Using AI to create art

I experimented with using SPADE for generating landscape art for a storytelling game.

This is what it looks like after upscaling it with waifu2x:

waifu2xheart.png

It could work, but I've spent a day building and installing requirements so this is all I've got. I have no game script or anything yet for the storytelling part. I'll just relax the rest of the day and hopefully I will have enough determination tomorrow to write some story.

*Snap*

Death Animation and others are done finally. Now i need tiles and logic :D

PlayerDeath.gif

Things are getting real! (Title still WIP)

Been working since about 9am, and i've got a nice little room, a playable character, and an enemy (who doesn't have art hence the mysterious flames shooting from nowhere). This is fun!samplegame.gif

A song

Not sure if I'll end up submitting a game but I did get a bit of programming and music done! Here's a song I was working on: https://picosong.com/wEJPA/

Try to pass a concept in pixel art

Concept by @pacha.

Trying my best to make it in pixel art and animated This gonna take a while haha conceptemto/empixel.PNG

Background mocked up, rough design planned

Okie dokie, drew a rough font, drew a background. The background will repeat across the screen with some scrolling parallax. Next will be to draw a 16x16 character that walks on the background left-to-right, and do the actual game.

fieldembg/emmockup_3x.png

The rough draft of the game flow is figured out on paper, going to try for a fairly small-scope RPG. It'll run a sorta state-driven system to flow from one interaction to the next, player + one enemy / shop / etc at a time.

It'll be a Game Boy homebrew. The systems to flow between states are more or less blocked out, and I have code to make loading graphics possible. There's also tools here to make creating the graphics a bit easier:

http://make.vg/brewtool/

In the interest of limited scope, the game will take place on a repeating background, and have two main sprites, the player, and the current point of interest. Maybe the background could change as you progress, I dunno yet.

The player progress linearly between different points of interest, such as enemies, shops, treasures, etc. At each each new point of interest, there will be either an automatic effect, or choices that the player can make.

Main Loop:

  • Linear
  • Travel between towns
  • Fight monsters between towns
  • When enough adventuring has been done, fight a boss, and advance to a harder area
  • Monster encounters, towns, events are random
  • Death sends you back to the start (or last save if there's time for that)

Points of interest:

  • Enemies: fight or run. fighting enemies has the risk of death. gives experience + items. level up to gain more max HP (also heals you to full), and increase your current stats.
  • Chests: collect a free treasure
  • Shops: buy items using current HP or max HP (depends on item), sell items to recover HP.
  • NPCs: some random event with different side-effects (heal, give item, etc), or story-relevant text as you continue your progression.
  • Bosses: hard enemies encountered after a certain amount of time exploring (maybe have the option to fight the boss when you're ready).

Items:

  • Limited inventory. Maybe 8 or 16 slots? Functions as your equipment and your items.
  • Consumable: has an instant effect on use. (healing, magic, etc). use up to N times (or maybe just once not sure yet)
  • Weapon: does an attack on use, the attack stat is added to your base attack when attacking. infinite use.
  • Accessory: boosts stats while in your inventory. passive, no use.
  • Junk: sell to recover HP. no use.

Stats:

  • Level
  • Experience
  • Max Experience
  • HP
  • Max HP
  • Attack
  • Defense
  • Accuracy
  • Evasion
  • Magic Attack
  • Magic Defense
  • Elemental Strength (Fire/Ice/Wind/Earth) - 1/2 damage received for this attack (maybe)
  • Elemental Weakness (Fire/Ice/Wind/Earth) - 2x damage received for this attack (maybe)

This is very rough. Let's see if I can make it!

Quite Literal

Hello all, this is my first LD and the first game I've tried to make since my final in school. I'm taking the idea of "your life is currency" and creating a "trying to not get laid off" simulator. My time is kind of limited this weekend, but here's hoping it will work out!

Status: 3 a. m., still no game

You know why it's so hard to program card games? Because the screen is too small for all the stuff to fit. Well, at least it looks good enough on FullHD:

2019-04-28-024620em1495x753/emscrot.png

Bad thing is that I spend half a day making it resize-proof. Now even if it doesn't fit the screen, it won't break completely. -_-

I've been working for about four hours, and this is what I have. Keep in mind that I'm terribly slow when it comes to making graphics, so that's where most of my time went.

Wish me luck with the player controller-- that's probably going to be the hardest part for me!

First gamejam

This is the first gamejam I am participating in. I'm 14 and I'm working with my little brother on this project. We had the idea of making a platformer shooter where your ammo is also your health. We got the animation and movement set up and will be working on the main mechanics tomorrow.

Please leave your thoughts below...

I've got a game.

You can win and loose and it has a tie to the theme. Now I just need to make it fun to play .

I went for "ascii" rendering and movement similar to what rogue did. Found a nice free monospace webfont to use. You need to reach the goal before your lifetime runs out and can buy a shortcut for some amount of lifetime.

Went chibi because we needed to.

After considering our time constraint, we ended up choosing a chibi approach to our ingame characters.

IMG-20190427-WA0008.jpg

Enough to show a GIF, but not nearly a game

Spent entirely too much time faffing about on the walk cycle for the player character. It's not even that amazing, but it'll have to do.

20190427 1559 walkcycle.gif

Just realized that there's too much head-bob on the "north" walk cycle. I'll fix that if there's time.

Progress is slow and easy this Ludum Dare, and I'm totally cool with that. The games gonna be what it's gonna be.

More progress!

This is my game 4 hours ago... Capture.PNG

Now it looks like this: Capture1.PNG

I'm sooo excited of the progress. Tomorrow will be the triumphal day I guess.

Should probably figure out the Art Style round about now.

I'm gonna keep on adding to and polishing the gameplay side of it but for now the base game is ready.

My Game Boy game has placeholder animations in!

Itchy Glitchy gamey

After rejecting my first two ideas AND the two following prototypes I decided I will try another idea, and for the Commodore 64 in assembly (thanks to @hamrathdoesldjam !) and finally I'm having fun!

It will most probably be a JAM entry because I can't imagine finding the time to do some original music and/or sound effects, but there are things happing on screen. And I'm only using 33% of my processor power (for a commodore 64 that's a third of 1Mhz). So I think I will end up with a game.

By the way: those dots on the screen are bullits, they're consuming most of my processing power now.

2019-04-27.png

Slow going, but..

Had a hard time coming up with something interesting that I felt it could get done. So I went for a farming game, where you have to buy seed and equipment using your blood from a vampire vendor.

You regain blood by eating the blood flower you farm... yea I know not a great name.

You will be attack by enemies, so you have to balance your farming to keep you blood up.

Here is a what I got so fare, art is not my strong suite hehe, but I will try to improve it tomorrow :) early_screen.PNG

Day 1 Finished - 2k lines of code in!

I'm pretty exhausted after today. I got up at 6am and started right away with the jam. I like the theme, and am happy with the idea I have as being a decent game for a jam. However, executing the idea is taking quite a while... Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to make some more progress. I think, as I did last time, I'll have to jettison sound again this time. Next Ludum Dare I'll have to make it a priority to have sounds!

One thing I decided to do this Ludum Dare was to try and create something 3D. I've been playing with OpenGL for a while now so thought I should try and push myself a little. Anyway, it certainly made things harder! I think I spent at least an hour or two just getting the matrices correct in the camera code.

screenshot.png

Here's a screenshot of what there is so far. It's currently weighing in at 2,000 lines of code (source here for anyone interested)- which is about the entire size of my last Ludum Dare entry!

Done some progress

I've done some progress with my game. Everything is done except the levels and the textures.

Wow, this took longer than expected. However, I finally implemented the basic player controls.

But I'm still not sure if I should reduce player speed/jump height.

Today's reward

huh.jpg

Oh, boy. It's now been roughly 12 hours since I started working on this project. It has game logic, sounds, basic test scene and an endlessly growing army of hellspawn. I guess it's going to be something like Gauntlet. As for the jam's theme itself, I might have to go the classic "gather souls from enemies to progress" type of thing. I might have bit more than I can chew so there's not going to be anything much deeper than that. Blasting beasts with a shotgun (and possibly chopping them with an axe) while making your way out of damnation.

this is all

Day 1 done.

What has been done so far? Not much really. I've worked through a portion of the official Godot Step-by-Step guide, and just reached the "Exporting your game" section. The result of the tutorial can be played here:

https://npexception.github.io/LD44/
(Don't open on mobile when you're not on wifi. ~15Mb of data here)

Loading takes a while, about 45 seconds on my mobile phone.

Instructions:
Avoid getting hit by the things. Touch/click anywhere to make the character go there, or drag to have it follow your finger / cursor.

Plan for tomorrow: Make a game for LudumDare I guess? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just Some Art For Now, Gameplay-Day is Today!

Last night I mainly just worked on artwork.

Yes, I know, artwork before gameplay seems stupid - but, I still needed to figure out how the game would actually play, so I figured I could multitask while GIMP-ing up some photos.

I went around my house taking pictures of various foods, then I cut out the background [ tediously ], applied some filters, and gave it a border.

I'm going for a semi-real, semi-cartoon, retro / grungy look. I think they're turning out fine for the aesthetic I'm after.

Anyways, as mentioned, gameplay will [ hopefully ] get implemented today! Hoo-ray! :V:

Do You deploy for Mobile?

Hello friend, developer! Do you release your Ludum Dare game on Mobile? If you have a web version of the game and you want to test it on Android I have an app that is a video game hub (Wleby). If you send me the link where your game is hosted or the link to your source code, or a zip, or whatever you want, I try to load it so you can test it directly on Android and you can avoid wasting time trying to build and upload on Play Store.

P.s. I would prefer the direct link to the game so I avoid deploy it :) Happy coding/designing & have fun!

Cheers

Stefano

Good progress I feel
