Work, work
We started working on a new game ^^. And this is my first time when I writting code for BarController.
That's why I love games!

Main mechanic is in and working! Get potion orders, fill the potion, and deliver! Best part means the rest of the day is making this look pretty and work thematically!

Oh, I hope I will finish everything!
I'm no artist, so I've spent way too much time today battling with my poor Photoshop skills, to produce this minimalist little mock up. Yet to type a line of code... oh dear.

I know I should just use some free assets and concentrate on the bit I can actually do, (arguably) - but I always end up rolling my own. Ahh well... off to VSCode now.

Starting to shape! Golf with coins where each shot reduces a coin's value by 1, and you must complete holes with the highest total remaining coin value: coins can bounce each other around, and we're gonna be adding some obstacles that you can only buy your way past with a high enough value coin.

Why the name? It's like GOLD and GOLF cobined. With an umlaut for no particular reason. PREPARE TO GÖLDF!
I had a tough time finding an idea for a game. After about an hour is started coding But find myself easily distracted. Heres to the rest of the jam!
I present to you the first screen shot of the game "Tycoon Tycoon"

The theme is starting to make sense.

Now every x wave I will add a Boss! That will reward you with max health.
I have something that's reasonably good.
So the idea is this; you're made of money (literally), and it's the only resource you can use for anything you do - in other words, it's your life, your currency, and your ammo!
And here is my progress so far:

(and no, that's definitely not the final design of the enemies, they're most likely going to look more like this > :pig2:)
Also, now that I've settled on my idea, I'm finally certain about what style I'm going for, and thus the tools I'll be using:
Now, time to get some sleep...

Let's use many lives to defeat that monster! So sad there aren't artists between us, looking for sprites on the Internet is not really fun and we won't be able to find the perfect ones... Next time, we'll try to find talented people to help us but well for now, let's look for more sprites.

Here's some progress again...
Hey Guys, i'm making a game based on where's waldo, and i need characters to place on the scene, if you want your character to show up in my game, just send me a png of the character to ld44waldogame@gmail.com and send me the name of your game and team so i can list on the credits.

We have trees now.

Unity 2018.3 won't update my prefabs when I tell i to. So I'm jumping up to 2019. Can't wait for this to ruin all my progress :sunglasses:

We got some trees...

Ooga booga! @re-markable and I have been working for a couple of hours now. We have a pretty good idea of what we want to achieve and have both started on our personal tasks. He's doing the development while I'm doing the art/3D-modelling. Because we're making our game about a Hawaiian tribe, I have modelled some tribespeople. I'm very happy with how they've turned out, since I have very little experience with working in 3D. Now that our characters are done, I'll have to start working on the other assets, like trees, houses, etc.
me and @noogai223 have been working hard on the graphics and its finally starting to take shape!!
shader graph has been of tremendous help and its a huge step up from last year, so now we can make fancy stuff like the polka dots background
@james9270 has been working on the mechanics on a separate scene so we might have that when he wakes up
@astrodex and @laulau have had an awesome idea for the music and we might try to attempt semi-procedural music for the level.
we dont wanna reveal much gameplay-wise, but everything just seems to perfectly fall into place. we are managing to work waaaaaaaay faster than expected, if we have time we might even attempt multiple levels.

Hey Guys, i’m making a game based on where’s waldo, and i need characters to place on the scene, if you want your character to show up in my game, just send me a png of the character to ld44waldogame@gmail.com and send me the name of your game and team so i can list on the credits.
Hey everyone. We finally did some progress which looks quite okay. But we want to bring a darker mood into this world with Knights and Skeletons.

I just finished brainstorming and jotting down ideas.... ...oops. :stuckouttongue:
You'll forgive me, right?
Time to prototype...
https://bitbucket.org/jgriffon/ludum-dare-44/wiki/Home

Now I'll start to create some spritesheet for characters and then I'm almost done, all the code is working and tested with dummy assets :)

The first leg of LD44 is done. I had a fitting game idea pretty quickly and got some decent work done towards some features and elements of the game.
The thing Im most happy with is the dragging mechanic (even if it took way too long to get working). But hey, objects can be moved around, their mass determines how well/if you can even move it and you can drag the boat into the water to get going, its pretty neat!

Looking forward to getting some sailing mechanics going tomorrow, as well as some narrative elements to the game but starting to feel like Im going to need to pivot and change my game idea a bit so I can finish an actual game in time.
How I imagine I'll be feeling by the end of this gamejam:

Lots more development/progress pictures and gifs on my twitter, Ive been posting throughout the day and will continue into the rest of the gamejam!
https://twitter.com/Alex_ADEdge
Here he is: Our sword wielding fire ball launching chosen one to sacrifice his blood and tears for the task of vanishing a demonic evil he sold his soul to.
The pixels are kickin' some sweeeeet dance moves - and spotlights are lighting up the dance floor baby!

Wow, that was alot of tinkering to get to this point actually.. But everything is working, you can pick up tiles (as long as the tile you want to pick up allows it) and place them again elsewhere.
Did I mention that all the changes you made are completely saved and loaded automatically? Even if you're in "mid-air" and the program closes, no problem. The save and load system handles that just fine. You'll continue exactly where you were after loading ;)
The graphics still are really questionworthy, arguably. But that's not the goal for today! Onto adding theme-related gameplay now..
https://github.com/cozmic185/LD44

(Just noticing the screen recorder had a little hickup there.. oh well, better that than the game)
Check out my update from last night here
Today, I'll be building out the level environment, writing the NPCs quests, creating a visual inventory and map system, creating failure and win conditions, and creating more art assets. My hope is to have a completely playable version of the game by this evening so I can start playtesting and tweaking values.
Follow my adventures with Day 2 of Ludum Dare on twitch -- twitch.tv/carlsonandpeeters
I want music, I want good animations, I want sounds, So I'll need to have a much simpler game

I'm making a board game. More simply for me and very good to continue to learn Monogame !
Menu screen is done and I'm working on the play !
My board contains "penalties" and "earnings" for the moment !

Here is some animation for cell bosses

Procedurally generated maps are starting to come together!
When the map is different every game, how will your strategy change?
Follow my progress on Twitter all weekend!

... then surely you're the Quaker Oats guy, right?

Since last time: Turret model, red animated beam, healhbar is now the color of the player. And a bunch of other shit. Soon: Enemies, turret animations, beam particle effects, sounds and bullet model
https://youtu.be/cYQvgvapoIc
i lost 2 games and i dont wont to make the 1st idea again. lets hope i will have better luck next time. have fun Edit: i was able to get my files back im so happy im back to the game
Just finished my enemy sprite sheet, just 4 more to go :D

I might not finish my game this time, didn't get proper sleep and haven't been feeling like coding. idk. sad stuff
I'm just trying to clear some fog but, am I allowed to fix bugs while its being voted for?
Let's go!

Hey Guys, i’m making a game based on where’s waldo, and i need characters to place on the scene, if you want your character to show up in my game, just send me a png of the character to ld44waldogame@gmail.com and send me the name of your game and team so i can list on the credits.
I'm in! I'll be using Unity, Visual Studio 2017, maybe Blender, probably SFXR, and I'll try to post if I use anything else.
I forgot to check the announcement before bed last night! How silly. But wow, your life is currency? That's going to be a toughie. I've got a couple ideas already, but one is a platformer where you're a burglar with a sack of money that depletes as you get hit, and I don't want to do ANOTHER platformer for Ludum Dare.
The other idea is some kind of bank defense game, where you guard a bank and build defenses using the bank's currency, but that's also what the mobs are trying to take from you and if you run out you lose.
I might be taking the theme too literally though. Like, it doesn't have to be a money defense game.
I am pretty well wanting to try a tower defense game this time, and it could be like, the lower your health at your base the more defenses you could have, but then it would be hard to balance so all players wouldn't go for minimum health all the time...
Well I'll give it some thought and we'll see how it goes.
This theme is not a change in my imagination, and this is not cooooool. And I like the horizontal action game. This time I will be a magical theme adventure game. Lead setting: Followed by Azrael n; Trading with Azrael n, gaining powerful power at random, but losing some life and soul;
Although it is not my favorite theme, the complaint has already been made. I will make a game that is enough coooool. Even though my English is not too good XD
Here's a game concept map that took an hour to make, and then it's time to make a prototype.
Fortunately, I wrote a set of frameworks, hoping to save some time, just do it! ! ! ! Gogogo
day 1 record:
Despite some difficulties, my game has a certain progress:

Next, I will give priority to improving the gameplay and then improve the art resources. Of course, I will choose between the two.
I added a "lose youself" button; When pressed: You will lose all your soul and life, Get a strong bonus (based on the soul) for a period of time (based on health), At this point there will be a target waiting for you to complete, unfinished means game over;
I think the addition is enough, then it's time to improve the game.
It starts to take shape

amazing.
I have added some animations and my own character to the game but am stuck now with my idea. I do not know which will be a better choice. That is why I post my problem.
Make a game player vs player like mortal kombat. Or a platform adventure game. Here is what I have so far.

Heyo! 17 hours have passed, and after hours of production and coding, almost done

After too many hours deliberating and trying out ideas, we finally found something that pleases us, and hopefully this will become a fun experience!

Working with UI. Thanks to Jakob Fischer for his font. Font Source: https://www.dafont.com/arcade-classic-pizz.font

Don't mind me..just starting to add music and pretty colours, while I don't have any actual gameplay yet..
Also, all the ideas I'm having don't fit the theme too well, but imma keep trying.

I have the basic standing and walking animations. Since the game is going to be turn-based, it would be very annoying to have to wait for an animation to finish, so the current animation is fast-forwarded automatically on a keypress — that's why you can see all that jumping around.

Today I have good progress. Tomorrow much more work is required, related to content and balance, but the concept is ready.
In this game, you become a developer, improve your skills and find a dream job. Current gameplay is short but will be longer in next versions. Also, it contains some known issues, I hope I fix it before actual release.
You can play first playable version here - https://konh.itch.io/developer-story?secret=5pPZO6N4ldAlfYVeI9CfjwzjwU
Feedback will be helpful!

Hey, we're making a game about a parking meter. Check out our stream at:
http://www.twitch.tv/outsideyoungstownboys/
The game is basically done in terms of coding. Just need to add a winning & game over condition and a script for plants that hurt your fish. Noww I can fully focus on my favorite part: level design.
Im really glad my game isnt turning out like last LD.
As soon as I got started last night, a tree fell and the power went out. Ended up playing candlelit Lunch Money with the roommates. And tomorrow we're having an open-house. Suffice to say I gave up on the idea of making a game.
Just 1 mechanic left to implement, then I will make 2 or 3 levels tonight.
And hopefully I will have tomorow for polishing only.
Looks promising!

I wonder if i'll be able to get there, but headbutting people seems to go nicely, for now they are box but later they'll be people telling you what to do with your life !

I missed the first 16 hours, but that just makes the Jam a little more hectic.
I'm gonna use Unity for the engine and probably Paint.net or Gimp for the art.
All is okay so far…
Enjoy the LD :D

My idea is some kind of "hero marketplace" Where you buy/hire heroes, who are up to dungeon-crawling adventure. They can ask percent of the loot, or cold hard gold coins up-front. Some kind of Hero-Tinder where you can hire heroes by swiping right.
Title is: Lot Lot Loot
This may be too much for a three day jam :massage:
I'm using:
- Ubuntu Budgie 19.04
- VSCode
- BABYLON.js 4.0 (WebGL engine), with Ammo physics plugin
- Pyxel edit, Krita
- Audacity
- LMMS

It's gonna be a 2d platform game. The way we thought to use the theme was to focus on the characteristic of value in a currency. So we came up with an approach of slavery. Soon more info.
The basis of the gameplay is here. I am pretty happy with how clean the code is, it is going to make it pretty easy to expand the content.

Here's a very brief demo of my LD44 entry, currently untitled. I have a basic concept, but not sure where this is headed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdJXj2Dg8NY
Working with @adlucem on a fighting animation system in Unity wich is hard but very interesting !

So my idea for "your life is currency": asteroids, but powerups cost cash. Which is easily spilled. No cash=no lives, sonic style

fueled by tea and the mr. robot soundtrack, i have gotten... somewhere?

Somos dos programadores haciendo juegos por separado en el mismo stream, asi que tenes un 2x1! Veni a mirar en: https://www.twitch.tv/pepisco
Working on the theme (Your life is currency) and the Theme (remake a game in any genre) we wanted to make a topdown tribute to hexen as a fan game. Assets and music are a mix of placeholders (self constructed, and derivatives artwork of Hexen / built off and inspired by hexen assets) which we hope to replace if given enough time.
The player will use their own life to fight off a horde of pesky noble paladins and protect the blood fountain for as long as he can.
Hexen is an ID software game, this LDJam entry is friendly tribute to the game.
After completely forgetting about the compo last night, I woke up this morning panicking because I had no idea what the theme even was. So I've lost about 14 hours, but I'm going to try my best. So far I've got movement, menus, attacks, and enemies implemented. Hopefully I can make up for all of this lost time.
I also spent about 45 minutes searching for a bug which was just a mistyped variable.

I know we are on day 1, but I started my stream if anyone wants to join in. I wanted to skip the boring parts of me sitting there thinking and jump into the juicy stuff of me actually working on something. I would appreciate it!

So far I have the run away, and when you are outside of their range, they book it to the door to escape.
https://www.twitch.tv/snowcactus_

A mighty game about bacterias and viruses where you must pick what to fight and what to accept! The cost? Like 5 years of your life :)
don't really know what i'm doing but wanted to at least try
First day has been really productive!

I recently improved my game's (not my LD entry's) dungeon generation algorithm, and I made a video about what it does step after step.
Now there are cycles, corridors, and many more
*I think corridor generating looks pretty cool, like a worm digging a tunnel  *

Hello! My second LD, last has been defeated by weekend work.
Your life your weapon! Your life your shield! Your life your currency! You leech swarm! Eat to grow and grow to eat!
Native canvas without engine and assets.

I've decided this time I will draw npcs in a really simple way, because last jam my hand almost died after three days of non-stop drawing. I hope they would still look ok and I will have more time to work on the text.

(Life)time as currency is my take on the theme. We go through our lives and need to be careful how to spend the time we have on the planet. Whom do we give our time? And what will we receive in return? It's resource management that can feel a bit like gambling. Especially if we don't know who we are.
Here's a picture I drew with pixels. It's a small preview of where I'm trying to go with the game graphically.

It's been 10 hours and I haven't been able to come up with a unique idea, at all. So far, I've scrapped 3 projects. I may try again tomorrow, but if that's the case, I'll probably only be able to finish after the compo ended, forcing me to submit to jam.
Just woke up but so far the gameplay looks alright.

Then back to pulling the all nighter.

finally it looks like something but I need to add too many things and also I need sleep
We don't have that much experience in pixelart, so this took several hours to create. But we're quite pleased with the outcome so far.

Oh and if you like to see some more hints on our game, come and join our stream on twitch. (already running for 8 hours, so please don't mind our sleepiness)
I bet we all have plants that grow tables, right?!

D:
This image is a rough sketch of what I wanted to implement. It will look much better than this once I get this game going.
This is one of the many background images I'm going to be using. Oh and before I forget, I'm going to be using the following tools.
Pycharm
Pygame
MS Paint
text files
This is going to be a small rougelike, turn based, text based, 1v1 arena, kind of game where you spend your maximum life to buy stats, equipment, and spells. Suffice to say, this will not be a compo for obvious reasons. Would I be able to finish it? Find out when the JAM ends!
4am and I have wall jump and monkey bars implemented. It took a lot longer than I expected but is very satisfying to have it done. Going to get some sleep and get into some level design / layout tomorrow. The graphics is placeholder art from the Unity tutorial.
Also loving seeing what everyone else is up to on the feed :)

Using:
Unity
Paint.net
I abandoned the last ld for personal reasons, but I will try to do my 8th Ludum Dare ! (my row is reduced to 1 if I finish this one :eyes:) And I only have 5 8th of the time to do so, so... Let's do this !
( my fuel : https://youtu.be/5vxYUr9e-GY x)) )

Making decent progress, I've managed to get most of the core gameplay mechanics done, still need to add more cards, along with things such as tick damage and buffs/debuffs, but other than that I'll have a whole day to get thing polished. :)
Well, having made absolutely ZERO progress yesterday..the sun will rise, and we will try again!
Took around 12 hours. I think that's a new record for me
Anyone know how submission works nowadays? Couldn't find an option for publishing the game?
Anyways here it is on itch:
https://skoggygames.itch.io/oink-royale

Things have been going slowly, but surprisingly smoothly as well! Decided that I will put some music on and start up the live stream again on Twitch for anyone who wants to join. https://www.twitch.tv/bengle15
P.S: If you do happen to stop by, the idea is in the pannels blow and I may answer some questions if you so happen to leave one for me.

Here are some of our sprite animations for our game, Meter Maid DX!

Follow our stream at:

Working on core game play. Draw grass texture.

For the past hour or so I have been working on my first custom particle system. I wanted to create something that looked like a fiery well, and I hope I got that across. @re-markable
Some progress was made. Live to make Lifecoin beat evil Bitcoin

My artist mixed Game Boy width & height and our background is now all glitched. :D
