Level 1 music - WIP

I have minimal experience writing and playing music, but I really wanted to try this time. Level 1 music is almost done, it just needs some equalizing and effects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxnD68Na7us

The game is set in a * nuclear plant or lab* so I tried to convey that.

I'll start programming now.

Progress Update!

So I've made some good progress considering I spent hours trying to fix a nasty bug! LD 47 Demo 1.gif

Ending Day 1

Ending Day 1 with most of the artwork done, the level set up, colliders all in place, movement controller working, and a few of the base mechanics programmed. Tomorrow, Music and Audio, and the rest of the gameplay mechanics! LD47Day1.gif

My Game So Far

The idea behind my game is everytime you die, you travel back in time to the start of the level, and are able to use your past versions to get places you couldnt get to on your own. Like this! The general gist of my game.PNG

Day 1 Progress

Making some good progress, feels a bit more solid than last time.

Fingers crossed I haven't managed to tangle up my code toooooo much.

Discovering I have a very loose understanding of how circuits actually work - Electrical Engineers don't @ me!

Day1.PNG

Must remember to turn off the collider debugging renderers...

Stuck in bloop music is taking form

Took time to even come up with something, but the loop is cooking ! ( A loop ! Get it ? Cause... that's like... a loop... a music loop... but also the theme ! Get it ?) Capture d’écran 2020-10-04 013628.png @vorunah

Day 1 Results

We've finally managed to compose all the stuff we made today in one build!

First bits of progress

We are going with a western themed game, a hanged man seeking revenge on those who did him harm. Stuck in a Loop -> Hung in a noose.

Placeholder art, getting movement mechanics in Hung On Justice Placeholder Art.gif

Tuning up the movement mechanics, here you see some art being added Hung On Justice Placeholder Art 2.gif

Adding swinging mechanics using your noose, character art is being added Hung On Justice Noose Swing.gif

I love the way it's going so far! Good luck to all.

I dunno...Shotgun Witch?

Witch shoots.gif

We have learnt so much already. 1.) Know the tools before starting a L.D. 2.) Test an idea first before trying to implement 3.) Scaling and size is important 4.) Making games in 48hrs is no for the faint of heart. ... I have new respect for all of you!![Witch shoots.gif]

Hell Loop - gotta kill 'em all

Trapdoors are only open for a couple of seconds, so you have to time your clicks just right!

Rough beginnings

We're live on Twitch! Come hang out at twitch.tv/Outfrost and twitch.tv/666Savior13!

Now, for what we've been doing so far. It's kind of embarassing, but I've got... a movement controller. And it doesn't even work that well. Can't jump half the time :(

Screenshot from 2020-10-04 01-23-59.png

Meanwhile, @666Savior is on modelling duty

Screenshot from 2020-10-04 01-27-01.png

And we've also got @saveng0r trying to figure out projectiles and stuff.

Hopefully more from us soon™.

A Basic Tileset and some Animations done

I've made a really basic tileset and also some Graphics and Animations. I think tomorrow I need to rework/clean them up a bit.

But so far, I am very happy with my progress  Sceneeees.gif

Day 1 progress, Man I'm tired !

After a slight panic episode where I was really doubting if I could make my initial mechanic fun, I think I'm onto something ! 2 am now, time for bed and tomorrow...Let's go HARD ! Crash Thunderstud, Zombie-Slayer is back for more !

Dev Log #3 - Just Fix IT

It has been a very slow day for progress.

I have some of the backend for scripts ready to go. I spent a lot of time tweaking the character controller because it wasn't moving right. I definitely needed to spend more time messing with Cinemachine before LDJam.

The few features I did get done are dragging the objects around.

progress.gif

Click to interact is next.

Day 1: Pre-Mortem

Having such a great weekend seeing all the great ideas that the community has. This is my 3rd time participating in the compo and all of your creativity never fails to inspire.

Progress: Basically spent the first 24 hours making a shader (having never used URP it seemed like a good thing to try on a deadline). compressWaterShaderX.gif Really liked how this turned out. Hope you all are enjoying the jam as much as I am! Keep up the good work everyone!

Good night everyone :)

I finally have my character and my main GPE. A little late, but it was a lot of fun to do. See you tomorrow.

Stpe 1 -> clear bugs LD47_Gif1.gif

Step 2 -> Validate feature LD47_Gif3.gif

Step 3 -> Polish (Camera and Exite loop force) LD47_Gif4.gif

Step 4 -> Sleep

Step 5 -> Kill Character when he hit a obstacle

Day 1 - the loop is starting to roll

AFter floating ideas on "Day 0", at least we have some floating sushi ready now and big ideas for our remaining time.

day1.gif

Slowly progressing, small hiccups here and there

My second solo Ludum Dare ever is progressing slowly, but the core gameplay is almost done. As the last thing for the day I set the grass tiles become null when the player object goes over them, but for some reason the cell 0,0,0 doesn't want to do that. Considering that I'm not a programmer it's looking ok, hopefully will have time to work on the graphics and add some sounds too.LD47StuckInALoop_WIP1.png

day 1 done

today i made tons of progress, i found out a new technique with sprites, implemented different weapons, different sfx, enemies, core gameplay basicly, all i need to do now is polish, some more things on the core gameplay and the menus!

One day Jam?

I had work yesterday, work tomorrow and only half of today available, so naturally I'm in. I'm going to try my hardest to make something in as little time as possible! I have a few ideas and haven't entered in ages, so this is going to be interesting.

Our first screenshot!

What do you think?

First Day over... *Phew*

Hello everyone!

9.jpg

after a lot of struggling to figure out what to make, i finally decided upon making a game where you drive around a loop powering a generator!

StuckIntheloop2.gif

i finished the main gameplay today, so my goal for tomorrow will be to add an intro cinematic and a store where you buy upgrades.

Core idea implemented, now level design!

We already have the basic mechanic idea implemented, and now i'm working on some basic combat against idle enemies I'm on twitter (https://twitter.com/elvismdd) tweeting about the progress!

aaa.png

Starting on the Dialog!

Starring Default Mixamo Woman in the role of Theseus and Robot Kyle as Princess Ariadne! This is definitely the final look - it's already so polished! And I can't believe how quickly I came up with dialog this intense! Maybe I should be a writer instead.

dialog beginning.png

The bottomless pit has people in it

Here's a video of how my project has been doing! It's a game in which you are always falling down an endless hole, and the people who live in this hole will help you escape if you help them do their stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A42hv9JKQY

Does this count as using previously made assets?

My friend is doing all the music and audio for the game. Does sampling an audio clip he previously recorded and heavily modifying and distorting it count as using previously made assets? I love his music and would hate to have to opt out of the audio category if we move forward with what we have right now.

Making Great Progress

Gifem1/emSmall.gif

I'm very happy with how this is turning out. It's great fun and it's easy to add various degrees of difficulty. For instance, the above level is pretty difficult because of the infinite loop and changing directions. It bends your mind a little bit.

First day!

ld47.gif My minions have learned how to dispose of trash. More to come tomorrow!!

Almost gamelike...

kiwi-progress3.gif

Got the rudimentary persistent organic objects, AI, and attacking going, the hardest things to implement.

Coding... Problem solving...

This particular game is pretty technically challenging for me so far, I swear, if this code works in the end and the game isn't riddled with bugs I'll be surprised! and very happy!

4 pm, i have no idea what i do, but it looks cool for me) >3

LD47 progress

Here's the progress so far on my LD47 game. The idea was basically a "create your own Rube Goldberg machine". That was probably a little too much for a 48 hour game jam, but I did manage to have it so that you can create a track for balls to move through. You have a limited number of pieces you can use. Zip pieces give your balls more forward momentum. The objective is to complete the specified number of loops with your balls, which goes back to the theme "stuck in a loop".

cirinf.gif

Oh, to be a moth...

Looking good so far! Background is ready, but still needs to be implemented. Now to make it work as intended! I like how shiny the wings look under the streetlight, so cute! ScreeshotBlog1.pngScreeshotBlog2.png

My player!

Gaze upon my beautiful placeholder graphics. I'll draw the real player tomorrow.

Screenshot 2020-10-03 200425.png

I know what you're thinking

See if you can guess which part is the placeholder art I drew.

ld47_1.gif

The worst of worst happened

It happened. Unity totally glitched out on me and deleted my entire project. A whole days worth of work!! But I managed to make a very early backup and restart the project. Stayed up an extra 4 hours to catch up with it. Funny, the theme is "Stuck in a loop" and I experienced the most gut wrenching loop of all :skull_crossbones:

WE WILL PERSEVERE!!

Losing steam

https://i.imgur.com/KzCAjAa.gif

I've got the functionality working (Its not pretty haha), but I've lost a bit of steam.

Sometimes if I'm not super excited about an idea I just find it difficult to focus on stuff like menus. Guess I'll take a bit of a break and come back to try polish it up and hopefully improve the level geometry. There is some nasty bugs with the movement as well haha.

Slow Progress

mayor05.gif

Probably going to be an all-nighter tonight. That's fine, one more bit of engine stuff and then I can program the actual game lol.

Finished my game!

STUCKGIF.gif

Just finished my small puzzle game, quite happy with the result.

To Sleep or Not To Sleep?

pixil-gif-drawing(2).gif

Boomboy, give me the strength I need to pull this all nighter...

Puzzle design...

My game mechanics are all up and working, but I'm no good at designing puzzles. I have one puzzle that might be clever, or it might just be unfair and obtuse.

Current mechanics are:

  • Time loop that creates clones.
  • Switches that open gates (and close some other gates).
  • Boxes that can be pushed and used as a platform or to hold down switches. Multiple clones will push the box faster than just one.
  • "Clone gates" that can be traversed by the current player, but will block time clones.

haveloop.gif

At least I have composed some catchy chiptune music.

Murder Loop ?

Lets see where this one is going ^^

Tired ...

A thought for everyone crunching for the jam ;)
Don't push to far and take a nap !

I'm Reloading!

2020-10-04_03-28-31.gif

The cannon now has reloading, and there is a difficulty progression through the levels which involves tweaking numerous variables. There are also messages that appear onscreen between levels (not pictured).

It's getting there, in face gameplay wise it's practically done. I have to move onto visuals and audio soon!

We're in again for the 2'nd time

Greetings from Russia again everyone! My lovely girl and I joined the event 13 hours in. Struggled to find and refine an idea, but escaped that loop finally =)

We'll not spoil overhaul idea, but here is some footage. Struggled hard with loader movement and with 3d-ish shelves rendering, but finally... ezgif.com-gif-maker (1).gif As in the last LD, my girl doing majority of graphics, and me - the rest. I need some sleep. See y'all in the morning!

Progress pictures!

Saturday is close to ending, and I haven't had much time to post progress pictures along the way.

We have platforming working and some pieces of environment art ready to go. Still a bunch of placeholders scattered around and some rough edges on the level design, but it is functional!

End of day one for me.

I've finished the main gameplay elements, gonna add more cards and enemies tomorrow, then finish the level select (loop) screen.

For those that missed the previous update, I'm working on a deck builder where you have to fight looping functions before you get a stackoverflow

End of Day 2

✅ Animal spawning
✅ Animal movement
✅ Collectable animals
✅ Scoring system (temp)
✅ Font
✅ Ground
✅ Foliage (with Z ordering)
✅ Timer (with Time's Up! screen)
✅ High score

unsure if i can finsih

Because i have one less day than i thought i did im now unsure if i can actually finsih.. i mean i might just upload what i get up too and maybe one day fix it but we shall see. i have no doubt its going to have many bugs regardless lol

Bleeurgh...

So the theme sucks IMHO :anguished: but I had an idea for another theme that I can jury-rig to fit this one. Still, it's a bit of a struggle and I'm not sure I'll get finished in time

And of course, Unity has decided to pack up  so now I'm trying to reinstall :shrug_tone1: Ironically, it got stuck in the "failed to load window layout" loop...

Work In Progress! Playable web game prototype!

Ok, so our concept is that you are a ship stuck in a Space loop, and you have to get out of each successful loop to escape. Dodge the bad stuff (pink) and pick up the good stuff (green) to progress through the loops to your escape.

Should work on mobile, although better in landscape. Also works on PC, iPad, etc, as it is a Web Game

Made with THREE.js and CANNON.js, etc. Music by kevin (teammate), ship from Kenney.nl (Thanks!)

Untitled CTF game

I haven't participated in a Ludum Dare in a long while - last time was still on the old website, where I did three of them. My username there was 222464 - I made a few games, my personal favorite being "Hero Must Die".

I'm a bit rusty when it comes to game dev, but I felt like participating once again.

This time, I am making a CTF game (capture the flag). There will be a special mechanic (not visible in the image) involving reinforcement learning (which in turn ties it to the theme).

ld47Progress.png

The "graphics" are horrible, I know. It's probably the ugliest looking game I have ever made, actually. I will try to improve them a bit if there is time left after implementing the "special mechanic". I am taking this LD pretty slow, so this will be a Jam entry.

No idea if the mechanic will work out yet, I hope it will be fun to play. Will see soon enough!

End of Day #1

Basic gameplay mechanics done! LD47Orbits2.gif
