Ludum Dare 46April 17–20, 2020

Post-Jam Update

I've submitted the post-jam version of my game, what I was originally aiming for with the game before I ran out of time.

This new version has a bigger map.

It also Supports azerty and joystick control now,

and it fixes a few minor bugs.

Simulating the time needed by the signal to go through a gate. Said time is called propagation delay or gate delay. When designing real hardware, gate delay has to be taken into account in order to prevent hardware bugs.

Post Mortem Part 2: Environment models

Post mortem 2.png

In this part I'll share information I received from @Mickxe who did the environment models for our game!

The straight and angular models, like the cabin, were built almost like how you would build it in real life. One piece at a time, frame boards for the door & windows.

cabin.png

The boulders, camp fire, and the mountains were made with the sculpting tool.

decimate.gif

The Decimate modifier (in Blender) was used for those models to easily adjust the level of detail to match the other models without having to actually change the model.

If you haven’t played our game, please go ahead and try it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/fox-hen-bag ( ̄︶ ̄*))

In the next part, we'll talk about lighting or maybe animations! ヾ( ̄▽ ̄)

Keep the Flame Alive is still not playable on your coffee machine!

But our PC Version still keeps improving!

Post Mortem: Keep the Flame Alive 1.2
What has changed?
- Added optional notes to drum tracks. - These notes are represented by striped or white balls. - They can be played for bonus but do not yield a penalty if missed entirely. - When played, they yield their usual reward though, even if it was horrible.

![1_2Drums] - Added quality tracker to top right corner.

![1_2Break] - Added a display for your overall performance at the end of your solo.

![1_2Score]

  • Improved hud fire indicator in top left corner.
  • Fixed some race conditions on note disposal.
    • Very rarely a stray billard ball would stick around.

Tried making a game with 14, finished with 7

Our big team will be revamped and the application system for it will be completely remade. Many people also didn't have access to their computers, because of... you know... that thing. You can play it if you want, but I would suggest the fixed version (version accidentally discarded by git during gamejam)

Warp time and space in Retro-themed physics puzzles: PlayBack

Hey everyone! My compo entry this time around is a 1980’s-themed physics puzzle game about trying to keep a mysterious orb in your grandma’s old VCR alive.

About Play<

This game was my first entry in the compo since LD38 -- three years ago! I had an absolute blast working on it, and I had the opportunity to try out a ton of new things, like: * Composing music for Ludum Dare for the first time * Building a game entirely in Javascript with React and MatterJS * Doing a level-based puzzle game

My greatest challenge in creating Play<<Back was polishing the mechanics. React handles state updates differently than MatterJS does, so it took a ton of refactoring before I was happy with the game's refresh behavior. By the end, I had a product I was super happy with, but it meant not nearly as much time as I was hoping for to build levels.</p> <p>Most of all, I'm really excited about this game's retro aesthetic. The title screen was inspired by a blend of old VHS covers and retro video games like Atari/NES. I hope the combination of the graphics, music, and story gives you the fuzzy nostalgic feeling I had while I was making it. </p> <p>Once results come out, I intend to flesh out Play<<Back with more levels and puzzle mechanics. Thank you all for a wonderful event!</p> <p><img src="///raw/bc5/z/3338f.png" alt="PlayBackCover.png" title="" /></p> <p><a href="https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/playback"><strong>Play<<Back (Web)</strong></a></p>

KAKYUUMARI Post-Mortem Thoughts

kakyuumari.png

Hey everyone, NOKOI here. I'm writing this quick little blog post to summarize my thoughts on how my first Ludum Dare went for me!

The Good

This was my first time working in a team and I think it went phenomanally! I handled the programming and the brunt of the Unity parts of the game while the other team members made art assets and music. I had a blast working with everyone. Tackling the idea of making a Katamari game seemed difficult at first but I'm glad I could pull through. I learned a lot about Unity in this time, especially learning about just how useful components like the line renderer and trail renderer are. I'm glad to have had this chance to learn more about this engine I love using and I'm excited to work on new projects. Seeing all of our separate work come together into one big project was a joy for me. I hope to work with this group of talented creators again for more projects. Who knows, maybe we have more on the way?

The Bad

While developing the game, we decided to use Github. Big mistake. Not many of us even knew what we were doing with Github and we almost missed the deadline because of a bad merge, causing panic in the final hours of the game jam. We plan to learn Github a little more so we don't make the same mistake. Luckily, I recovered the project file, but it was almost too late and very stressful for me. There's this nasty bug with the camera that I don't know how to fix. Whenever the character moves, the camera freaks out and rapidly moves side to side. I hope it wasn't too noticeable and I'm probably going to create a better camera in my next game. It was my first time trying to make a mouse controlled anything in Unity but I'm pretty happy with what I did make in the limited time. The saddest loss due to time was that we couldn't implement dynamic music. We had a whole thing planned where the song would have more layers based on the ball size but that never came to fruition. Instead, the whole song plays and I limited the timer to the length of the song to simulate this effect.

Conclusion

I'm really happy that I entered a game jam and got to work with the talented people I did. It also luckily coincided with my school vacation so I got to work all throughout Monday to finalize our game. I hope this was a fun little read and that you'll be inspired to try out our game, KAKYUUMARI. Me and the rest of the team will be playing all the other games we see too. Hope everyone has a nice day!

- NOKOI

Bug fixes after deadline?

What's the consensus on doing bug fixes after the deadline? My game, Innocuous Pong, starts with a simple one-player version of Pong that steadily gets harder and harder. It's decent in the Mac and Windows build, but there are some issues with the Web build that make it hard to get to a score of 15 (which is kinda the whole point of the game). Am I allowed to fix those bugs and then have people rate that?

A Small Reflection On Making a Small Puzzle Game in Around 50 Hours

Hello everyone! I'm Stickle and this was the first game jam I've ever participated in.

Starting from 6pm Friday to 8pm Sunday, this has been one of the most exhilarating weekends of my life. Even working with a teamate (@duckduckproducktions), the amount of programming challenges I had to overcome was intense and I really learned a lot. The goal of the project was to make something actually playable and understandable and I think we did good in that aspect. Obviously there is a lot to improve on but for a newbie this is something I am definately proud of.

The game @duckduckproducktions and I made is named Boss Fight and it's a mini puzzle game where you need to control the path of the hero beforehand so the boss can get the vacation he deserves!

Play it in your browser here! - https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/boss-fight

My teamate even made a little trailer for it! - https://youtu.be/FCoWyip9YWI

I really had a blast working on this small project and I can't wait to join again in October! Thanks to all the event organizers for putting such a fun event together and all the game developers participating for making such fun games to play!

Signups vs Authors vs Submissions

Are you allowed to vote on projects if you are just an 'Author' and didn't submit a game, and if so, are there checks in place to make sure people aren't creating fake accounts to vote highly on their games or double vote on other games? Call me crazy, but I'd say over twice as many authors as submissions is a bit fishy...

Signups: 10330 Unique Authors: 13529 Number of Submissions: 4958

Edit: I also didn't take into account team sizes for jams, but also only 70% of the entries are jams and I'd be surprised if there's an average teamsize of 4 for the jam entries

Horny Rhino !

Hi all!

In our game, we have a replay value with the highscore! Here is the highest score we know made by a friend (Cypress) which is 77098. Could you beat him?

94381772em177350663408197/em8754647652953489408_n.jpg

Here are some hints about our score mecanics. - Score given decrease with time after the poachers appeared, the quicker you shoot, the more you have. - Head Shot give extra point, don't miss the head. - Overall score is multiplicated when Rhinos arrived at 100% love progression, just a short time after gold heart which is 90 and means victory - Love progression increased faster with heart gold flirting rhinos. It take the lowest of the 2 Rhinos. - Gold very fast, pink fast, red normal, grey nothing, blue decrease. Keap them gold to get bonus earlier. - Shooting love ammo to Rhinos'ass increase their flirting value by 2 ranks.

Don't forget to change mouse speed in option if needed for better aiming. ;)

How to Art of Fleur Defense

Below are real, unedited sketches for characters in our game. The sketches were just enough to get an idea of what to create when I get into Photoshop and Pyxel.

Play Fleur Defense Now! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/fleur-defense

For this jam I feel like we were all on the same page right from the get go. We were already eye-balling the “Garden” theme, perhaps under the influence of a recently popular farming game. I started out by creating our hero straight away.

hero-demo.gif

sketch-hero.jpg

It felt pretty good to get rolling on the game right away. Our team has a great deal of trust and we're able to allow each other to do what we're best at without getting hung up on details. We brainstormed a few things and got the ball rolling.

sketch-notes.jpg

I made up our first defense plant next. I tried to make things that the developers would need as they went along, although sometimes its best to go with inspiration and come back to immediate needs. I like to sketch things at least three times usually, and I'll flip it over to double check proportions so it doesn't look weird (as I'm heavily right handed).

sketch-spitter.jpg

After getting some sleep on the first night (having worked at regular day at the ole 9 to 5) I started in on our first enemy bug. I thought of the bugs in Starship Troopers, so I put the movie on while I worked. This wasn't a great idea, probably a better idea to put on something super boring with not a lot of action. I'm not sure why I did, but I decided to imagine a 4 legged walking cycle for a bug, rather than just looking one up. Still came out ok.

sketch-4leg.jpg

starship-run-demo.gif

The developers wanted another defensive plant, one that was melee or short ranged. Fortunately I had some axe & shield seeds!

sketch-melee.jpg

Wait that's no axe! Well I decided that a plant, being more afraid of axes than swords, might just use one to defend itself. And the shape is a bit more like a leaf. I rounded out our plants with two growth stages to show their progression.

plant-demo.gif

We wanted a smaller, faster bug and Tristan helped me out with some inspiration, finding a nice photo of an aphid. This time I wanted to do a 6 legged walk cycle. Conveniently I managed to do it with just 3 frames! Nice!

sketch-6leg.jpg

aphid-run-demo.gif

Its important to give yourself little challenges in a jam, it's a great way to learn! Tristan continued to help me out by finding more inspirational photos. We were on the hunt for our "mother" plant, as it was almost as important as our hero and I wanted to get it done before it was too late. We found some amazing photos of a Jade Vine plant, and I used it to make our mama plant.

sketch-mama.jpg

The next big challenge was our environment. I made a foreground and background tile set that kinda looked like it could be in a plant nursery or greenhouse, with some lighter colored cement and medium raw woods and plenty of green. I threw in a greek meander for style points. Then the hardest of all, a way to represent that the game takes place inside a greenhouse.

sketch-greenhouse.jpg

I wanted to show a lovely background behind the glass and came up with this, kind of inspired by classic Mario and Kirby games. It was here that I started to break out Illustrator, its easier to come up with big shapes like this than starting out with pixel art.

sketch-farbg.jpg

Finally I concentrated on our title screen. This was the only thing that we honestly struggled with, right up to the final day. We couldn't decide on a name for our game! I played around with naming our hero, and looked at baby names that have something to do with flowers. I landed on Fleur, it seemed fitting. I played around with some titles with her name, even just "Fleur" as the title, finally coming to Fleur Defense and it stuck as it both described our hero and the mechanics of the game in a simple way. I did the title also in illustrator.

sketch-title1.jpg sketch-title2.jpg sketch-title3.jpg

Our style well established by this point, I came up with a rolypoly bug to take out defense plants. Play testing at this point clued us in that we needed to give the player a reason to move around the map instead of staying put. We came up with lemon trees that need to be defended, so I came up with some animations for those. By then it was ready for release!

Thanks for checking out the art of Fleur Defense and playing our game!

just curious

So, everyone that has been doing Ludum Dare for some time knows how crucial it is too keep the scope of your project quite small. However the more content you are able to squeeze in, the higher chance you have of rating higher.

What's the most ambitious LD game you have created/seen were the dev actually pulled it off?

Hungy Hungy Dwagons now supports international keyboards

You can play it here

I neglected to add cursor keys as an input method in the original submission, I've updated the game to support it so people who can't know the simple joys of WASD will be able to play the game without reconfiguring their keyboard mapping.

Thanks @spawnie for pointing out the unforgivable omission! promo-gameplay.png

Reflecting on my stylistic and creative choices

Stop-motion photography has become somewhat of a staple element in my LD-entries.

Title_1A Y.gif

Your Money's No Good Here was a visual novel fully constisting of still photographs.

cut4.gif

While Tabula Rasa represented an entirely different genre (platformer), I continued the tradition by including photograph-based intro and ending, while the game itself took place inside a notebook.

Pahka_LOW.gif

This time is no exception.

My first team-effort I I R O, features a stop-motion intro, and a level-hub that is based on videos.

That is a real physical mask you see in the picture BTW, sculpted by my team-mate Ankea!

And speaking of masks, they're also a recurring element in my games. My previous entry also had a real physical mask featured prominently in the game.

The practice of utilizing photos/stop-motion in games came quite naturally to me because of my love of art and film in general. I've consumed and produced art in many forms most of my life.

I used to develop simple and crude games already as a kid. Art and music became more of a serious passion for me as I got older, but I never gave up games for good.

Lately my ambition has been to combine all of these elements into one harmonic entity.

I know "artsy games" have a bad reputation of being of low quality when it comes to gameplay and design. While it may be true in some respect (and some of my work admittedly suffers from this), my aim in the future is to create something that doesn't compromise gameplay for the sake of art, or vice versa.

Walk.gif

I'm not quite there yet, but slowly getting closer to that goal.

Can I be a productive developer for 24 hours while working on the post-jam version of Eggcelerate!

There is some potential for playing and rating your games on stream when I get less productive.

Join the stream now! or tomorrow as I will still be there!

Thanks to my community and supporters for making this happen, I really appreciate it!

Need Help Updating

Hello fellow game developers.. I was wondering if I could add a web build to my game..Is it against the rules... I'm not adding anything new to the game and just want to add a web build so people don't have to download the game..help would be really appreciated...

And now to shamelessly self plug (feels so dirty, ugh)

We are soooo close to 20 reviews, and I absolutely hate to do this, but our game can be found here:

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/keep-away

2fb15.png

You really should play it with a gamepad if you can (I don't know who on my team chose the control scheme but admittedly it sucks for mouse and keyboard); if you can't, make sure you have a physical mouse with the ability to middle mouse click. Read the instructions first, otherwise https://youtu.be/6Ls5j5iz2eA?t=10

To help ease my conscience, please post/play your/other games in the comments, especially if they have less than 20 reviews.

MR YELLOW PROMO

IMG_PROMO.png

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/mr-yellow

Need a decision based games. I am creating a list.

This is the first time I make a decision game. And I decided to develop because people seem to enjoy it.

This is why I'm trying to study decision based games (games that had almost no execution just choosing stuff) and what makes them fun and addicting.

Yes that includes visual novels but I'm looking for fresh more "gamey" ideas. please share any (even if you did not make them)

So far I've played: - Penguin marsh - Field hospital - Sisters light house - Delicious Letters

Also I encourage anyone who can to make big lists, say strategy games. Because I'd sure love to play those, since there aren't many.

And of course play our game if you want Mammoth Expedition: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/mammoth-expedition

If you are interested in the list I will publish it when I make 10-20 games. Follow me if you want. I will also write a post about what I concluded in this short-study.

Got a mac build done!

It is still untested though. If anyone with a mac and a decent GPU could give it a shot that would be rad,

Take the time to relax.

For my game... You just relax. You could go on the hunt for the fabled mega seed, but no pressure, take your time, I insist. If you'd rather, you could just explore the world, meet people and chill. You can use your vine power to traverse the world, cross gaps and climb cliffs, hopefully that will help you on your journey.

Idle World 2.gif

There isn't any time pressure, no one to fight, no one's going to die, there's just you, the world and the people inhabiting it. The game isn't about the destination, it's about the stories you experience along the way.

If that's what you're looking for, you can play the game here. Give it some time, this isn't a game to be rushed. As a footnote, the game is procedural, so I've taken the time to film a heap of gifs that I'll slowly release in these posts. Thank you for reading, I hope you have a wonderful day (or night, I dunno)! :v:

The new Smart priority algorithm

I'm not a big fan of the new Smart algorithm...

Compared to the previous Ludum Dares, it feels like playing, rating and leaving feedback on games doesn't matter anymore; I'm not sure why, though.

What does the rest of the Ludum Dare think? Are you enjoing the new algorithm more or less compared to the previous versions?

Added Web Build

The game now has a web build.. it took me a while to figure it out.. I have having resolution issues.. Turns out I forgot to check this option.. sdads.PNG

Pet Protecc TD - Postmortem

wever.png

Mandatory link to the entry

Background

Well, it comes to no one's surprise that most of us have spent weeks in lockdown by now. Some of us have been privileged enough to be able to work from home, but an inconvenient is that all days end up resembling each other. As a programmer, that means that I've consciously refrained from looking at a single line of code during the weekends in order to rest and to make those two days feel slightly different. For that reason I wasn't planning on joining this edition.

Despite that resolution I kept being up to date, checking the themes, voting and so on. When the theme was announced, I thought that Keep it Alive was really promising, so I started brainstorming ideas, even if by that point I was still fooling myself on the "will not be in" camp.

Eventually, a seemingly silly A + B mashup formed in my head and clicked: "What if I cross Tamagotchi with a tower defense?"

I thought the idea offered lots of potential, both genres could benefit from each other and, most importantly, seemed easy to prototype and scope down.

At that point I'd lost more than 12h but I had severely nerd-sniped myself, so I decided to give it a go.

nerd_sniping.png Source: XKCD

And well, here we are now. To be fair, I am reasonably happy with the result.

pet.gifpet.gifpet.gif

What went well

  • Slipping to jam mode. This is my first ~successful~ jam mode submission, but I prefer to participate in the compo mode, and I had expected to do so. By late Sunday, though, even if the game was playable enough to be submitted, I felt I would be doing it a disservice because I did like the idea but the implementation lacked a lot of polish. I sacrificed my pride, fell back to jam and that seemed to be the right call. Even if jam proved the right call despite having to work on Monday, and the piling exhaustion, I managed to create all-new art for the game, review the levels, create a bunch of game screens and could even get some sound effects in. Not bad!

For comparison, this is how the game looked like by the end of Sunday: https://youtu.be/a3P6SCMRsVM

And this is how the submission entry looks: https://youtu.be/NXk0DCoBOM4

  • Game mechanics are easy to layer and iterate. 48h-72h (a lot less in practice) usually mean that no matter how much you've scoped down from your original idea, it's probably not enough. Luckily, this game can scale easily, so feature development and content creation could be layered. Even if I had to cut stuff (more on that later), I could have something playable with a clear goal at all times from relatively early.

  • Haxeflixel. I hadn't touched this since LD42, favouring Unity instead, and I tend to forget some stuff, so I was slightly concerned that I could run into hiccups trying to figure out something obvious.. However, everything went pretty smooth, and some built-in features, like some simple pathfinding, saved me hours of development :two_hearts: I had a couple of issues porting the game to Android, but some library updates and logcat detective work sorted things out easily.

  • Graphics. People seem to like them  I think they're more or less consistent and the palette apparently works well.

pet-d.gifpet-d.gifpet-d.gif

What could have gone better

  • Slipping to jam mode. Yeah, I said it was the right call, but I still regret not being able to make it in time for a compo submission. Would I have been able to make it to compo if I had started 3-4 hours earlier than I did? I'll have to live with the doubt now.

  • Graphics. Even if people seem to like the game graphics and colour palette, and I do dig myself some parts of it, I still feel that it's not as good as it should. Mobs could be better, UI graphics could be better or provide clearer feedback, and the game could certainly use more animation and effects.

  • Cut features. On my TO-DO list there were more turrets, turret upgrades, additional pet interactions, passive bonuses depending on how well taken care of the pet is and, the jewel of the crown, conditional pet evolution with consequences to gameplay (skills). Press F for all of them, please.

  • Few levels, so-so balance.

  • No time for music or sfx polish. SFX made it in the last hour,so it's expected that some of the effects are lackluster or even grating if they're used often.

As always, thanks for keeping up with me up to here. If you're still interested and don't feel like scrolling all the way up, you can play it and rate it here :)

How to create background music on an iPhone in 15 minutes

Innocuous Pong was my first solo compo attempt and it was a completely silent game for the first 46 hours. But when I finally finished the basics with 2 hours to go, I thought I might tackle sound. Out of desperation, I turned to GarageBand, which is free on the iPhone. I learned a lot in those two hours, including how you can do pretty much what I did in 15 minutes. First, startup GarageBand on an iPhone and then click on the '+' sign to start a new song. At this point, scroll over until you get to the "Drummer" page:

GarageBandDrummer.jpg

Select it and you'll get to the settings for the drummer.

GarageBandDrummerSettings.jpg

There are a ton of buttons on here but you can ignore them all and hit the second button (it looks like 3 rectangles with the middle one larger than the others), which brings us back to selecting a new instrument. Scroll over until you get to the "Keyboard" page:

GarageBandKeyboard.jpg

Now hit "Alchemy Synth" and it'll bring you to the keyboard screen:

GarageBandKeyboardSettings.jpg

Again, a lot of buttons. There are a lot of overlaps with the drummer screen, but we're going to focus on the two right ones on the second row: the arpeggiator (the mountain made of rectangles) and smart piano (the stacked rectangles). Start by tapping the arpeggiator:

GarageBandKeyboardArpeggiator.jpg

An arpeggio is when you take a chord and just play the individual notes one at a time. The arpeggiator does this for any chord you play. Turn on "Run". You can also check out the other settings. I like to set "Note Order" to "Random" just so that there's a little more variety, but that's up to you. Then hit "Done" and toggle on the smart piano (the stacked rectangles).

GarageBandKeyboardSmartKeyboard.jpg

Now here's where the fun begins. Smart piano plays a full chord when you tap on it. Combined with the arpeggiator, you'll get a nice sounding sequence of notes. Go ahead and drag your fingers around the rectangles and see what happens. You'll notice that it only works for dragging up and down in a vertical line. That's all in one chord going from 3 low notes at the bottom to progressively higher chords at the top. To shift to another chord, lift your finger up and drag on another column. Play around all you want because you're not recording anything yet.

Now a bit of music theory: This is based on the key of C major (you can transpose your track later, if you want). If you want to start your cycle there, you'll start by dragging your finger up and down the "C" column. From there, the most harmonic transitions are either a fifth up or down, which would be either the "G" or "F" columns. And then you just keep moving around. The farther you go from "C", the more "tension" there is in the music but you'll eventually cycle back and start over. For my game, I did 2 measures each of "C", "G", "F", and "Dm" (D minor). One you've got the feel of it, hit the record button and record your eight measures.

That's all you need to get started! You'll eventually need to export the song, which is basically something like this: tap the down triangle button on the upper left, tap "My Songs", long tap and hold on the song you just made, scroll down and tap on "Share", tap "Song", tap "Uncompressed (WAV)", tap "Share", tap "Open in...", and save somewhere you can access.

If there's interest, I'll go over some of the other buttons in the app. And if you'd like to hear what I came up with, please check out my game, Innocuous Pong. Thanks!

How I made the ants in my game

I wanted the ants to be upgradable with visual changes, a 3D model seemed the easiest way to do this because I can just attach objects to the animated model later without having to worry about doing any extra work. So I made this model, running in the background FNHkP9K1Bn.gif Then draw that to a 2D texture and apply this texture to all the ants. Because the model is rendered only in one place it doesn't cost much in performance TETkWofIDr.gif

An early stress test. There's not much left of all the detail but it did the trick ezgif-2-f91fc243b49b.gif

Rating games no longer helps you get rated back AT ALL?

[EDIT] Thanks for all the well meaning comments on how to give feedback, but my point is that I would like to have known that this change was made.

I've rated 18 games, but noticed hardly anyone was rating my games back. Apparently my "Smart balance" score is not increased by rating games, but only by comment karma? Does anyone know what's going on? Is this a bug?

What Ludum Dare did to me

Made a very long post about my LD46 experience. https://wans24.itch.io/he-needs-healing/devlog/140983/what-ludum-dare-46-did-to-me

This is where it gets difficult!

Keeping the bar alive

During these awful times where everyone is dealing with the Corona virus, it is difficult for local businesses to keep running. Flower shops have no customers anymore, lower their prices to an absolute minimum and local bars and restaurants are closed in many countries to reduce the spreading. This is all for the greater good, but imagine the struggle for a local bar owner. How are you supposed to make money now?

Play "Raising The Bar" now to dive into one solution: turn your business of selling alcohol to selling hand sanitizer and soap, made from your stockpile of drinks! Mix different drinks together just like you used to to reach new markets. But don't get stuck in one, as all handsanitizers have different market recovery rates. Explore a new way of mixing drinks and compete to be the best in our online leaderboard!

Let us know how you did, which drinks you found to work best and what highscore you reached! Play the game over here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/raising-the-bar

LEADER, Keep them alive!

Header.png

Hello everyone!

I participated alone this time. It was my first time doing the sound design and the music. I'm quite satisfied with how it turned out.

* LEADER, Keep them alive * is a narrative experience where you'll be the LEADER of a space mission. The game is inspired by the Apollo 13 events. I really focused on the mood and the story.

The game looks very complicated, but a tutorial guides you through the different gameplay elements. I hope you'll like it!

Web Version Incoming!

I got a few requests for a Mac version of Don't Kill Death, but unfortunately I don't have a Mac which is needed to export a Mac version from GameMaker. I did however do the next best thing and specifically purchased the HTML5 export module for GameMaker to compile the game for web, so the online version will be playable soon if you missed it because of the Windows .exe not working on your Mac. It will however come with minor quality of life improvements and bug fixes, but when the time comes it will be clearly indicated so as not to confuse with the jam submission. So, keep your eyes peeled!

Can't wait to upload the HTML5 version; I'm genuinely surprised by the general out of the box compatability of the export. There are a few things that need tweaking to ensure it runs properly but in general it appears mostly stable and ran well for me when testing in the browser.

The game recently got some love on Reddit - so in the meantime if you haven't checked it out already, feel free to do so here: https://madebychaz.itch.io/dont-kill-death-or-die-trying
