LD21 August 19–22, 2011

I’m in.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to devote as much time as I’d like to this, since I just found out about it yesterday.

The Theme will be what makes or breaks my chances at producing anything over the weekend.

I’ll be using the App Game Kit released just 5 days ago by The Game Creators.

Hey there!

Heya KIStech, it’s me OMEN from the TGC Forums! I’ll definitely be following your progress, be nice to see what the AGK can do 😀

checking web server

This is my first LD, so running a few checks…

I’d be eternally grateful if any fellow LD’s could trying loading my sandbox at either of these addresses (just hosting a Dev Snapshot of ZCP there right now):

http://sandbox.lakehomegames.com

http://173.160.112.173

…and let me know which one worked and if everything loaded correctly.  You should end up controlling a zombie, running around a city.

Both links work.

It’s quite interesting that people start running away if I click on “wood” some times.

Ready to go!

I’ve cleaned my work space, tested my tools. I’m ready 😀

I. AM. READY!

Woo, BIT.TRIP reference!

So I’ve prepared my stuff, collected the content generators which were all over my drive in one folder, and tidied up my desk a bit.

Suyo's Desk Photo (LD21)What do you mean, that’s not tidy? You should’ve seen it before!

+1 for samsung TV!

Je suis dedans [CCCP Gathering]

So we are 3 young and willing guys from the north of France, entering our first ever Ludum Dare. We are from the same independant game studio, CCCP, and we’ll gather tomorrow to jam ! Two programmers and one game designer/project manager/lama lover/cofee maker. We’ve considered entering as a team for the Jam, but ultimatly we thought it will be more fun to work on our own.

( Truth is, we are sick of working with Meedoc as a manager 😀 )

Our lovely place

As for myself, I’ll work with AS3 and FlashPunk. Will do my crappy graphics with Photoshop, make sound with sfxr and Audacity, and music with, well, errrr…. I suck at making music. Probably won’t :/

Anyway, I’m in !

I’m in & I mean it… [CCCP Gathering]

Ok I won’t continue with bad jokes… One is enough…

It’s my first Ludum Dare and I’m really excited! I don’t know if I’ll use Unity 3D or Flash, it will depend of the concept I’ll find…

For the graphics I’ll certainly use Photoshop.

For the sound, it’ll be sfxr and maybe Audacity.

For the design, a piece of paper and certainly Visio if I need to do some level design.

Anyway, I’m convinced it’ll be fun!

Good luck everyone!

I’m in~ [CCCP Gathering]

Hi this is my first ludum dare and i’m very excited about it!

For programming i’ll be using flashpunk.

I’ll be using audacity for the sounds (but i’ve never used it xD) and sfxr and. As for graphics it’ll be graphicsGale or photoShop. (same as sound, i don’t have any experience with drawing softwares so, i’ll probably do pixel art, or likely pixel thing)

Good luck, and…

I’m in \o/ <(^_^)>

Ludum Dare Time!

Hi everyone!

I missed LD 20, so I’m looking forward to participating this time. I’m planning on using Game Maker, GIMP, and sfxr. Good luck to everyone!

(Hopefully I’m posting this correctly…)

Alright, I’m In

I’ll be at a wedding tonight but the late start (for the east coast) and lots of time at work for my wife this weekend mean I’m in for my first LD! I’ll be going for something small but complete.

Likely tools include:

  • Flixel 2.5: Adam’s wonderful little library has been my plaything over the summer. With it, I’m confident I can whip out a quality piece over the weekend.
  • MacVIM and Terminal: I’m holding a grudge against Eclipse and I haven’t gotten around to giving FlashDevelop in VirtualBOX a chance. I have this setup streamlined to my liking.
  • DAME Map Editor: After overcoming the learning curve, DAME is my editor of choice. Unless I decide to go with a procedural world, DAME is where it’s at.
  • Pixen / Photoshop: Sometimes one, sometimes the other. Everyone says to stay away from Pixen but it’s the best app of its kind I’ve been able to find on a Mac so I’m giving it a chance.
  • Audacity: Eh? Audio? Last on the list because it’s at the bottom of my priorities. If inspiration strikes and time remains I will likely use Audacity to whip up some passable sound effects.
Now, everyone vote for a theme that lends itself to new gameplay experiences and mechanics! Let’s make it fun! Also, I need something good to brainstorm over while I make the drive back tonight. Good luck to all!

I’m in???

So, decided like 5 days ago to work out what tools I’d need and do this….

Didn’t work out what tools I’d need though.

So let’s do this.

Using C++, probably Gosu, if I need art I’ll head to GIMP, if I need music sfxr/Audacity will get looked into.

My goal: Have something that can compile when I’m done. Secondary goals of having it do things and be a game. Actually being fun will get to be a tertiary goal.

I’m in, for a most variable definition of in.

Ik ben in?!

Heyall, will be participating in the awesome Ludum Dare this weekend.

I’ll be working with flashdevelop, flixel, paint.net, charmaker1999, sfxr and pxtone to make a game.

To all people participating “have fun, good luck and good night till tomorrow” :)!

I *think* I’m in…

…. it’s just that the GF dropped on me two days ago that she wanted to go up to f’ing Sacramento on Saturday for a birthday (I live in San Francisco). Besides this last minute annoyance, I’m excited about LD #21, but still haven’t quite figured out my plan. =)

I’m developing for iOS in Xcode 4. I’ll be using the terminal screenshot script that was posted today. I actually used it in the last Mini LD; and it works reasonably well, especially considering you don’t need to install any extra software, which is nice.

I have my own small library for iOS games, which is the accumulation of what I’ve learned until now. There are still some glaring holes, like that fact that I have no idea how to build/import any kind of map haha! But I’m sure I’ll figure something out. Last Mini LD, I figured out collision detection on my own.

Hmmm, since a lot of entries include photos and stuff, maybe I should do the same. I’m at work, so I won’t be taking pictures of my messy house, however, I started dicking around on some music last night, warming up for this weekend’s challenge (don’t worry! I won’t actually use it. And my “song” really sucks anyway, haha). So I included a few screenshots of that.

Wee!

Disregard girls, acquire game compos. :)

Yeah, that sounds pretty reasonable. I thought about doing that, but if I can’t figure it out, I might just do it oldschool kind of Dwarf Fortress style with ASCII characters.

Wellllll…….

If evolution happens to win by a slight margin, I’m in, otherwise, I’m sitting out. And like usual, I’ll just use the stuff I’ve declared before. Except this time it’ll be in flixel 2.5.

Good luck to everyone else!

Evolution’s not going to win. It’s a given. It’s doomed to roam the last round for eternity, but never quite make it all the way…

It could make it next time. But still, I don’t need another game project to finish. -.-

Which is why I’m sitting this one out.

Ecce ego particeps…

…since “I’m in” seems too normal… Smile

This is my 8th or 9th LD, and still is as exciting as ever! Smile

Anyway, I’m using the same framework as last time, done by me, just added a 3d tilemap system (doesn’t have any type of querying yet, just rendering at the moment, I’ll add the rest during the competition, according to needs).

You can download the framework here, if you want to use it (it has two sample applications that show most if not all the features):

  • D3D9 initialization and some helpers
  • FMOD interface for sound
  • 2d Sprites (with sprite caching, etc)
  • 2d Particle System
  • Text
  • 3ds file loading (only tested with 3ds generated by 3d Studio Max). Loads lights, meshes and cameras.
  • Small simple math library (vectors and quaternions)
  • Simple 3d camera handling system (just with a “look at” operation)
  • XML loading/saving (might come in handy for configuration files, load/saves, etc. The XML loader was created by Frank Berghen, not me… the writer is all me, although the loader also has save functions, but I’m too lazy to figure out how they work)
  • 3d particle system (based on the 2d one, so very rudimentary)
  • 3d sprite system (quads that always face the camera)
  • LUA library support (it’s actually ripped from my engine, so it’s a good support system for LUA)… Last time I used cutscenes and scripting, and loads of the game code was much simpler because of that…
  • DDS image loading for an offscreen buffer (just supports R8G8B8A8 images). Might be useful for some level design stuff, although I’ll probably go back to my old days of text files
  • 3d Tilemap (Kind of a blocky heightmap with an automatic texture atlas generation and partition of the map in chunks for possible culling (not implemented))
  • On the tools side:

    • Visual Studio 2005 (hope I can get used to it again, been using 2010 at work)
    • Photoshop CS5 (for 2d graphics and textures if I decide to adventure into 3d, and for map creation, etc)
    • 3d Studio Max (for modelling if I go 3d, or for title screens and such otherwise)
    • sfxr (or Bfxr) (for audio effects)
    • Wolfram Tones (for the music creation – fun tool, saves loads of time) and MIDI Converter Free (to convert the MIDI generated by Wolfram Tones to OGG)
    • Live Writer for blogging

About the themes, I have a gut feeling that “Dreams” is going to win, although I don’t have any ideas for that… or any of the others, to be honest, since the times in the past when I tried to think of an idea for all the themes it didn’t work that well… Smile

Anyway, very excited about this all!

    Good luck everyone!

Timelapse on OSX

For anyone who doesn’t want to muck about with command line scripts etc I just picked up ScreenNinja from the appstore – 2.99 GBP – seems to work fine for getting those timelapses.

So … I’m IN!

Last supper is gone, now let’s get down to business :) The competition starts in 7 hours – for me this means waking up at 4 am … This is going to be my 1st LD, so I don’t expect miracles to happen. I just want to get a quick taste of what everyone has to offer and what I am capable of.

(most probably) I’ll be using C++ with Irrlicht. Now off to bed, I definitely need to get some sleep, as this compo is going to keep me in front of my computer for a LONG time :)

Don’t bother waking up at 4am to do this – you’ll just feel tired and uninspired. Get a good nights sleep, at least until 6/7, you’ll feel much better and you’ll be able to stay up until 4 on the last day doing last minute things 😀

Count me in

Hi. First post and first Ludum Dare so I’m not quite sure what I’m letting myself in for here but it certainly sounds fun so I’ll give it a go. 3AM start for me but whatever.

I’ll be using…

Code: App Game Kit
Graphics: GIMP
Sound: Audacity & SFXR

Good luck all!

Hi Lucas,

Frist Psot

This is my first time.  I’ll be using my game engine i’ve developed (in C++) over the past few months.

The engine is built using the following tech:

  • Ogre – Renderer
  • Bullet SDK – Physics
  • Lua/Luabind – Scripting
  • OpenAL/Ogg/Vorbis – Audio
  • Particle Universe – Particle System
  • OIS – Input
  • Recast Navigation – AI Path finding
The engine is designed such that the entire gameplay can be coded in Lua.   So I’ll be scripting the entire gameplay.  This also helps in quickly prototyping the game.   I use blender for creating 3D models

I think you’re supposed to link to any libraries or engines that you use that aren’t freely available elsewhere, just so that everybody has a fair chance to use the same tech!
19. Aug 2011 · 17:25 UTC
oh neat! I love to see that more and more people are using their own lua engine. I would like to double the request to see the source if you don’t mind. I am hoping that there are things I can borrow for my own engine.
