Ludum Dare 37 December 9–12, 2016

Update #7 Name Change to Blackback Mountain

Because I have a sidekick and I am sitting in a cabin in woods. There is no one around just me and my buddy. And a handful of zombie capsules attacking our cabin ever night. Also I thought it will be a great tribute to the movie too.

Game is still have 7 day challenge. I am hoping to add in-fight funny chat to our heroes. Because they deserve it.

But honestly I love how #LudumDare made me do it!

TODO:

  • Character controller sucks. Hopefully I will switch it something more meaningful
  • In-Game chit chat between heros
  • UI would be very cool. Not very needed though hehe

HOUSE BOYS – Progress so far

Hi LD Jammers! I’m Tim and I’m working with a team of Baltimore locals: Steve, Jenny, Tony, and Michael on a game called HOUSE BOYS
The boys are back in town, obviously

Inspired by HGTV’s Property Brothers, our game tasks the player with renovating a home to merge every separate room into an “open concept” (aka ONE ROOM).
This beautiful boy is here to help

Steve and Jenny are creating the bulk of the art while Tony and Michael handle code. I’ll be recording SFX today and filling any art and code gaps.

Keep your eyes on these boys, more to come later today!

Progress Report (26 hours in)

This is pretty much it. Even the humans got themselves a model, albeit sans animations.

BIGGIFTAKESTIME_ISWORTHIT

There’s a lot more I’d like to add, but unfortunately it is going to be a busy next week for me. If only I could take Monday off, but alas.

Surely a few more hours won’t hurt too much, right?

Sneak Peek

Here is our small update on the art, the one and only Plasma Disk Gun 2000!

[SPOILERS] Dad’s Cabin – The Last Push

This is my last post and if you got here you have either played my game or you don’t mind the spoilers.

Well I finished my first Ludum Dare (Compo). I had a lot of fun doing it. It was hard working with QB64/QBasic but I feel like I wasn’t able to make it game-y enough. Like I was going for a text-based adventure vibe and I sort of feel like I did that.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed my little game!

My Second Dare

Hey!

Last time (LD36) I barely finished my project on time, now I’m done 5 hours before the deadline! Progress!

Although I’m not too happy about my design, I’m happy with the results.

I made a little timelapse (missing like 2 hours cause I forgot to set chronolapse up)

I love LDJAM more and more with every new one im taking part of.
Keep jamming people!

Been a while

Haven’t posted a progress report in a while. I’m falling a bit behind, I have all Sound Effects done EXCEPT for one, can’t do it at the moment because my family is being a bit loud (which doesn’t matter, only takes a few seconds to record them). However, I haven’t started on the music at all yet… and the Graphics actually fit like I said before, kinda like an old Nintendo Game, so I think I’m going to keep it this way. So the rest of the checklist is to make 4 Songs, 1 more animation, 1 more Sound Effect and an in-game Control Guide, then it’s done!

Hub is done

So here is the main hub of the game. From here you start your adventure.

After deciding to switch from Compo to Jam, I hope I can squeeze another fight into this game and not run out of time.

If you’re looking for music I’d love to make some for your game. Rather new to LD and looking for a project to help out on.

Wow, I just saw your comment. Sorry I didn’t reply, I totally missed it when you wrote it.

It was a hard decision…

This would’ve been my 9th (or 8th?) Ludum Dare entry, and I haven’t completely missed one before. I somehow totally forgot it was even happening until yesterday, and when I did, the theme didn’t feel very inspiring and felt more like a rule than a theme to me (much like the “Entire game on one screen” rule from exactly 2 years ago). It’s a real shame that I’ve had to give up on this LD, plus the next one in April will be hard to do due to exams coming up… :(

I had some ideas and even a small prototype, but didn’t wanna submit an unfinished and lousy game just for the sake of having a streak. Anyway, I wish good luck to anyone who’s still going, they all look great 😀 I’ll see you guys in the next Dare!

Progress Update#4: Sounds

Even though, I have tons of ideas to add in my game, time has come and I really need some sleep. So, I am gonna finish this as only playable game with few “unique level”s. If people like this concept, I am gonna continue to work on this project even after LDJAM has finished.

I’ll share my project to jimsen.itch.io after testing a while. Please, give feedback as it is my first time entering Ludum Dare. Also, first time making a game.

Progress#4

I’m done!

Playable here

Pros:

  • I actually enjoy playing the game!
  • I finished with time remaining
  • I didn’t use an unreadable font like last time
  • No big surprises
  • Was easy to tweak difficulty

Cons:

  • Scoped way too small. Here’s a few things I didn’t add that in hindsight I wish I had:
    • Multiple modes
    • High scores
    • A more interesting intro
    • More dynamic enemy behavior
  • Limited feedback. I need to be more proactive with reaching out and getting feedback mid-dev.
  • Took me WAY too long to figure out a game idea for the theme.
  • No animations

Next Ludum Dare I’m going to focus more on polishing the aesthetic, or maybe work on a Jam game.

knock knock, I’m here. Update 2

The room is looking awesome. Are you looking to add music to your game? I’d love to help out if so.

Hum…

Can I really survive this… ?
