Ludum Dare 37 December 9–12, 2016

Done and Submitted!

My first game jam is complete! Just submitted my project to the Compo. Man, what a weekend. Fun, but very stressful.

Did someone say pandas?

Some of them have made it past the theme slaughter.

Pandas!

Most likely won’t be ready for compo, though.

Banira Shio Delivery Service!

Still a lot to do but going well so far :) Our One Room game about delivering love letters in a classroom e.e because who hasn’t?

Done! LD37 – Perspective

Entry page :)

Inspired by Miegakure, you play as a circle living in a 2D world. However, you can change your 3D perspective, pulling of incredibly confusing Houdini acts.

It’s not complete, and has no actual goals, but it’s playable and a proof of concept :)

Update

All the game mechanics seem to be working.  Now I need to work of levels.

Is this a Jam Entry?

Finished, going to sleep, now!

Done it, made it. I was about to give up because for the first half of first day I had terrible headache. I’m not even sure for what genre my game qualifies. I guess it’s something puzzle…ish but it’s ok because it turned out rather cool.

Now jsut waiting for bugs to come out.

You’ve got a mission!

The ludumdare.com server outage

Haha, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse this weekend. ;)

Anyway, if you've been having troubles connecting to the site, it should start working again soon. I had to disable CloudFlare to get us to that point. Hopefully that's enough to get us through the night.

PS, here's how submissions here were supposed to work.

The Yetis are coming!!!

Sweet,sweet success…
I think this is possibly the best game I’ve made… ever…
What started as a stealth game turned into something much better.

If you want, play Yetis and Unicorns here

Finished.

I am so tired. Time to drink sake in front of the fire.

presenting “levelone”

I’m going to sleep and die. This LD was much harder than the first one because of the nature of my game, and all that work for around 5 minutes of gameplay 😀

Not finished

wolfpallew1

So, I was spending most of my time trying to rewrite a raycaster wolfenstein engine from scratch, something I have done before in the past but always end up with horrible bugs and long time till I get it right. The alternative root would be to write some OpenGL code and make a simple room but I was afraid of the modelling it will require or maybe I could make it with procedural contect but not sure how it would look. While the raycaster root would mean blocky walls and a single would be too bland, but the idea was different. The concept would be to have all these hundreds of doors (in the screenshot it looks like garage door almost, proceduraly generated cause I don’t have time to write code to load images now) and Only One Room behind the doors would be the correct. Yep, kinda twisted the theme. I was thinking of making some funny enemies or pictures behind the wrong walls and ridiculous sounds (I haven’t done any of them), so it would get annoying the more you open. I wasn’t sure how to go from there gameplay-wise, hoping to finish and plan from there, maybe have a limited time till you open the right door and a monster to chase you around the corridors or the wrong doors triggering bad effects in your movement (like drunk movement or freeze for 5 seconds, etc).

I am not even sure if I’ll have motivation to wake up tomorrow and finish this for the Jam instead. So, I’ll just post a screenshot for now..

Finally, a mortal can sleep! :D

I didn’t manage to implement even 10% of what I planned to and really had to rush many things near the end, but I’m still extremely proud of myself!

So, here’s how 30 hrs of my pure work look like (Search for Loop of Eternity):

Ludum Dare 37

Hmm…

Well, it looks like this time I didn’t make it.

Around noon today, I realized than 75% of my game’s mechanics were unimplemented. At this point, I started taking as many shortcuts as I could to get things playable.

Unfortunately, small typos and bugs stopped me from completing bottleneck functionality, so I was stuck trying to implement player movement in the last half-hour. That’s a rather core mechanic to miss, and of course, I missed a capitalized letter for 15 minutes during that time period.

… Sigh…

On the flip side, I learned the Urho3D framework much better and got to try out some fun C++11 stuff.

For those of you who want to see my descent into madness, here’s an image and the github repo:

I maintain foolish optimism that one day (soon) I’ll come back to this project and finish it.

I look forward to seeing your successes where I failed.

Good job everyone.

To the Jam I go

Well, I didn’t quite (at all) make it to the Compo deadline with a finished game (or a game at all). But I’m optimistic for the future, specifically tomorrow where I hope to turn this:

A present traveling along a conveyor belt.

I call it “Santa’s Conveyor Simulator 2016”.

into a full-fledged game that will (hopefully!) be fun to play.

My fingers are crossed, and even if it doesn’t work out: hey, it was my first Ludum Dare ever.

This went surprisingly well

Made a “one room” endless first-person shooter. It even has a global leaderboard. (may contain bugs)
