LD22 December 16–19, 2011

Gearing up for Ludum Dare 22!

I’ve got my trust camera by my side along with my arsenal of game design tools. I hope to atleast make something during this compo (To be honest motivation is my least worthy skill) but Ihope to be properly motivated (and hopefully not confused about the topic chosen and what I can do with it). Creativity IS my strong point, so I’ll probably think of something good.

I have also accepted the Kitten Challenge so I can give myself an extra goal.

Looks like it’s time to buckle down and sharpen my theoretical battle axes. Again, good luck everyone, and Merry Christmas (or Hannukah, if applicable).

Guess I’m doing this…

Hello,

Been staring at this screen long enough, I’m in!

-SDL, C++

-Mac, possibly Windows too, it there’s time.

-BSfxr

– Graphics in Pixelmator, Gimp

I guess I’m *put sunglasses on* in.

I just discovered this contest this afternoon (just after sayin’ I will rest this week end) and I guees I will try to make some game.

I’ve never ever coded a game and I’ve almost no experience with graphical libraries (and even less with sounds).

I think my tool will be my browser and javascript for my first participation. I’m still trying to find something that will force me to work all these 48h.

Good luck everyones !

LD24?!,

Hi all,

I’m thinking about entering, although work Christmas party clashes with the first day and work with second day… maybe a 20 hour jam… Might bail unless I have an idea for the theme quick smart :s

Engine: Unity (will target mobile and web).

Graphics: Adobe Illustrator, GIMP

Sound: Garage Band, Cakewalk, Audacity

Assets: Anything included as part of Unity

Toolkit: A few components I’ve developed over time (available in the Unity forums)… ASCII Level Loader,  Touch Controller,  Line Drawing Library

I can feel it.

The time is getting closer.

I’m in for the jam.

My setup as of late.

Lua and LÖVE.

I really like it that you took pictures of the program icons 😀

Huh? I’m In What?

Yep, gonna do this for reals this time. Live from NY and its gonna be awesome. More details later, including where I’m streaming from, but here’s what I plan on using…

Programming:

XNA or Construct. It will depend on the theme and how lazy I feel.

Audio:

FlStudio and EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold, and various soundfonts from “The Internets”

SFXR, and random sounds

Graphics:

MS Paint or something equally bad… (I suck at art usually @_@)

So excited! Can’t wait to see what all of you make this weekend!

For graphics, let me reccomend paint.net

Declaration of intention

I hereby declare my intention of participating in the 22nd Ludum Dare. I have participated once before, here. I’m very excited about participating once again, and have therefore, and have therefore been mentally sharping my knives, over the past week!

When I last participated I made a couple of mistakes that you guys helped me realize and this Ludum Dare my main focus will be to get these straight:

  • While both are important, a solid gameplay is far more important than interesting mechanics.
  • User input must be SIMPLE, SIMPLE, SIMPLE – if I, the creator can barely use the controls, then strangers to it will be utterly confused!
  • Despite my coder set of mind (I enjoy ASCII Roguelikes), correct usage of graphics actually matters a lot to the gameplay. Improper use of graphics will mess with the users’ perception of size and depth.
  • With only 48 hours, every minute matters – the idea must be simple. Does “Shooting laser through enemies to mix colours, thus killing other enemies” sound simple to you? Wrong, it’s not simple enough.
  • Hide that mouse cursor if you don’t use it to point, it makes people sea sick!
  • Don’t use MIDI instruments. Good sound is more important than melody and why even measure it like this when you can have both?

Additionally, from my warm up game I was once again reminded to include instructions INSIDE the game!

With that in mind, here’s the list of tools that I intend to use:

I will be recording a timelapse with Cronolapse. Happy Ludum Daring everyone!

I’m in, and it’s my first time. This’ll be great

Alrighty then, I AM IN. This’ll be my first time, cause i’m a total noob to programming, and I cannot wait. This’ll be awesome.

Tools:

-Paint.net

-Gamemaker 8.1

I’ll probably be using a platformer engine that I’ve been working on recently, but it all depends on the theme.

The engine can be found here; http://www.mediafire.com/?67bkv4j39wrbitd

I’m in, and i’m ready.

Some additional tools

I forgot to mention in my last post that I will use Audacity for sound converting (if needed) and some components I made for unsuccessful game framework called Project Squared.

That’s it! 4 hours till theme announcement… I’m ready to stay up all night (since theme announcement is in 3 am here).

I’m streaming my work on livestream if you want to see what’s going on 😀

Good luck and have fun!

I’m in!

I am a LD virgin, here to pop my cherry.
I will more than likely be using Game Maker, Gimp, sfxr and Reason, be gentle with me.

Well.. obviously, I’m in

I didn’t have time to make a video I’m in, but it’s obvious if you are on twitter : I’m in !

My chosen tools :

Unity3D

Align Editor 1.7 for unity3d (5$ for you, free for me as I did it)

ChronoEgg for unity3d to record the timelapse and to check the dead line every second 😀

– Ableton Live (well.. a friend’s one)

And that’s all, I wish you all luck, very weird ideas and don’t forget to take time to submit your game at the end !

Jumping in!

This is the year! Gonna rock it out in LD22 and pump out a game in 48 hours!

Engine – Unity

Sound – SFXR

Graphics – Photoshop

Personal library – A simple character controller script, and a 2d tile map generation script.

Possibly In

This would be my 4th LD.  On the fence because I’m flying home on Sunday, and it’s a long trip that arrives just around the submission deadline.  I would most likely submit from the airport after we land.  The plan would be to get the game done with placeholder art before I have to go to the airport so I can work on art and music while traveling.

  • SDK – Frank Engine
  • IDE – Visual Studio Express
  • Art – GIMP
  • Sound – SFXR, Audacity, and Rock Band

Errm, I’m IN!

Thought I’d give it a shot this year after having watched Notch (developer of Minecraft) competing in Ludum-Dare for the past 2.792 years (thanks wolfram-alpha!). I usually develop my stuff in Java, Python, C#, (some) C, PHP, Javascript and Go. I’m intending to write this in Java.

Monitors are 2x Samsung B2430 (23″ @ 1920×1080) + 1x Samsung 2333 (23″ @ 1920×1080) + 1x Samsung 931BW (19″ @ 1440×900).

Got a fresh windows install (since yesterday since last reinstall was on Christmas day last year, and it has been bugging out for months..)

Will be developing the project in Eclipse, language will be Java (as mentioned above).
Paint.NET, maybe GIMP for image editing
Was considering using my in-development networking library (will be releasing as open-source, in all the listed languages above in a few weeks) but after considering it, it would probably be useless implementing multi-player.
May try streaming it, but really don’t think I’d get any viewers.
Decided to try streaming it, http://www.justin.tv/youlikethaaaat/

The main issue I’ve got at present is no decent time-lapse software. I’ve tried ChronoLapse but it seems to have been designed for dual-monitor at most, I’m able to get it to display right 3 monitors using the “subsection” settings but the most I can get of left monitor is simply black (using negative coordinates).

Just to let you know I’m “ylt” in IRC, and I voted against kittens despite having “ylt!ylt@nyan.nyan.nyan.nyan.nyan.nyan.nyan.nyan.nyan.nyan.nyan.d3s.co” as my host-mask! :)

Wondering, anybody got ideas on compatible time-lapse software? Temporarily fixed it by setting primary monitor to left, moved taskbar to 2nd left screen and then specifying exact coordinates in “subsection” (in ChronoLapse).

This is some serious workspace dude.

I’m in for ludum dare 22

I’ll try my best. (I hope I’ll finish something)

Tools:

  • Browser side JavaScript
  • Three.js a JavaScript 3D graphics library
  • Box2D.js a JavaScript collision detection library
  • Tween.js a JavaScript animation library
  • Raphael a JavaScript SVG library
  • Drag.js my own simple drag-to-move library

Maybe:

  • A JS-library like Prototype or MooTools. We’ll see. I’m more in a ‘do it yourself’ mood today.

[LD22] Prepared as much as possible…

So I really tried to prepare this time. One of my biggest mistakes last time was not to check how the game runs on other OSs. Especially Win7. So I made some tests of the framework beforehand and everything should run. Also I’ve managed to prepare a small configuration app, it should simplify the running of all apps and games using my framework.

The updated template package can be found here.

It’s 4 hours before start and it’s 23:00 here. Time to get some shuteye :)

Character Animation

While the Contest gets closer and closer i will now try to do a walking animation for a pixel character, something i just was not able to do for my warm up game. I just could not figure out how to do it. So i will now want to try and do that!

Getting ready for LD22

The Search for Fun sounds like a useful title story. :-)

So here we are again – a new Ludum Dare. After procrastinating as long as possible I’ve  finally done some preparation. I’m going to be using my Renaissance Engine again – I already used it in LD20 and when I just set up a branch for LD22 (SCM is a wonderful thing) I realized I didn’t really do much work since then, although it is far from finished. Faaaaaaaar. Whatever. It’ll do.

Here in Germany it’ll be 3 am when the theme is announced – I’ll be asleep by then, being well rested is more important than starting the minute the theme is announced. The german Making Games Magazin arrived just in time for Ludum Dare, I’ll be reading that in bed, followed by sleep.

So good night (where applicable), see you tomorrow! And happy coding!

My workspace (the clean part of it, anyway)

WE ARE IN!

We are in!(in the jam that is)  We are a team of 5 guys ( and girl ) from Germany. We will be using C# , xna and a little selfmade library. We wish everyone a happy Christm………. erm Ludum Dare.

and here is our little workplace:

Good luck! I’m in the Jam as well, but there is only two of us.

I should be doing this LD…

I don’t think any of the themes should catch me totally off guard…

I’m sort of happy with my game from last LD, but not nearly enough. I hope to do a lot better in executing a FUN game. To do that I’m going to abolish plans of storyline unless it’s really excellent and I can turn it into mechanics as well, and add it in after I have a fun game.
