LD22 December 16–19, 2011

I’m in… and, code.

So, I’m in. I just finished porting my base code to Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows: game_v0.1.tar.xz. Text rendering is broken on Windows, but who needs text anyway? I’ll do it all in OpenGL and C++. I wanted to get an audio framework working before the contest but I spent too long wrangling with COM interfaces for loading images.

Ready to Roll!

I guess I better put up my “I’m in” post. This will be my third Ludum Dare (the second that I’ll submit a game for – well, probably). I’ll be using FlashPunk this time around, as I’ve very familiar with it right now (having used it for the last few months on my next game), and it will be much easier for people to test it.

Anyway, good luck everyone! May the best developer win!

My first LD!

I’m really excited and nervous too. Last time I saw how Notch did his Prelude of Chambered so it’s really big time pressure. I hope I’ll have my game finished in time.

Tools:

  • Eclipse (Java)
  • Paint.NET
  • sfxr
I think that’s all for now. Compo starts in 5 hours, I’m curious about theme. We’ll see.

I’m in & declaring existing code!

I’m in. I shall probably just be doing the Jam with a friend!

We’ll be using C# with an OpenGL based library for 2D graphics that we made ourselves; sorry for not declaring this earlier, wasn’t sure if it was necessary for the jam! You can see the code in our hg repository. I’ll probably end up using some extension code for the library that adds support for bitmap fonts for pixel-y goodness.

Resources for Glory!

Alright so,  just to cover all bases, here’s what I’ll be using in LD22:

Stencylworks (Flex) for the game itself, though I’ll be working with a blank project, nothing community made.

Renoise for the music, with some chiptune sounds I downloaded a while ago from the community.  They’re just individual wave patterns and noise patterns, without loops or anything, so the melodies and all will be entirely original.

SFXR for sound effects, because I totally -suck- at making these myself.

Paint.NET for sprites.  It’s all I really need ;o

For fuel I have some energy drinks, diet coke, and kettle chips to keep me going.  Here’s to staying up forever!

Sleep is for the week.

Last Minute In :-)

First timer yadda yadda yadda.  Tools of the trade:

  • Java-Slick2D-Eclipse (I was going to use pygame, but my friend MME convinced me otherwise)
  • Graphics edited with pixmap
  • Taking screenshots of my workspace every minute to make a time-lapse of my downfall after LD is done
  • AI programming background – toyed a bit with pygame but never completed a game before

Wish me luck :-)

All aboard

Mi first Ludum Dare, weapon of choice Flixel FlashDevelop and maybe stage3D

Prepared!

My preparations are done. I think. 😀

I googled around for like 20 minutes until I found an application which would fit my timelapsing desires. It has screen choosing, hard drive space checking, CPU monitoring, and all that awesome stuff that I won’t use anyway (except for the first one I mentioned), but oh well 😛

So… There’s the list of programs I’ll use:

Game making: The Games Factory 2
Graphics: The Games Factory 2/Paint.NET (depending on how complex the sprite is)
Sounds: sfxr
Music: Probably no music again, I’ll try to add some sounds in background instead (birds, winds etc.). If desperate, I’ll find a free, easy to use midi program.
Timelapsing: TimeSnapper Professional

Also, I like the themes in Final Round… Especially kittens. That means I won’t spend a lot of time trying to find any ideas for my game 😀

(Untitled)

No one forgets their first time.

Ludum Dare #22. My excitement is due to the fact that I am going to be actually working on a game that I hope to complete or atleast give it my best shot. Being my first one, I am pretty psyched. To be honest, participating in LD should be great. You have nothing to loose. You make a game, if you can’t complete it, work on it more and launch it independently. The important thing is to be a part of the experience I guess. I mean imagine this, you’re up 48 straight hours, with hundreds others. This is going to be fun.

I am not a programmer by profession but am certainly one by passion. One things for sure though. The art is going to be crappy. Hopefully the theme will make me come up with a game play that makes the art irrelevant. I have tried my hand at some games but they seem to be stuck at the moment. Hopefully I won’t hit a snag in the middle of all of this.

But hey, where’s the fun in that.
#LD48 here we come.

I’m In.

Despite never creating a full game before, and being horrible at graphics, I’m in!

Going to be using flixel as the engine, sfxr for sounds, and musagi for music loops. Failing that, I’ll probably resort to gamemaker out of stress 😛

I’m in for LD22

My fever broke this morning so it looks like I’ll be fine for entering!  As for tools:
-flashdevelop

-flashpunk with  Noel Berry’s advanced platforming engine

-graphicsgale

-and for sound a mixture of sfxr and just clawing at a chalkboard while screeching

Ready!

We are in :)

Well, since we are a team, it’ll have to be Jam, but games are more fun to make together, aren’t they? Without further ado, we present you our team, the Alleas:

Septi (programmer) and Wednesday (artist)

This is the second Ludum Dare for me (Septi, and no, I didn’t create anything groundbreaking last time), and the first for Wednesday. For this Ludum Dare, I moved in to Wednesday and set up a temporary workstation. I have some weird network connection problems, so this time I’ll have to work on Windows, not Linux :\ Here’s my stuff:

And here’s Wednesday’s lovely desk:

This, by the way, is Raven, our talisman, he symbolizes:

As for what we will be using, here are tools for programming:

  • C++ with MinGW+MSYS toolchain
  • Vim
  • Qt – great crossplatform library
  • SCons as a build system
  • Git for version control, although I doubt we’ll need branches
  • A little template project to start coding with, it’s just a “Hello World” for SCons + Qt combination

And here are tools for content:

  • Photoshop
  • Sai
  • Macromedia Flash
  • Sfxr for sounds, if we get to that point

Probably we’re going to use some of my code from the last compo (we’re in Jam, right?), probably not, this all depends on what we’ll be making. With all that being said, we wish everyone best of luck both in Compo and in Jam. Let’s do it :)

You’re out! But I am in…

I am in because I haven’t written a game in years…

I’ll be using PureBASIC and Ogre3D for coding and Ableton Live for sound and music production and Paint.NET(Unless my friend decides to assist with art and then Ill be entering the Jam)

nop

And another ‘I’m in’ :)

Hi,

This will be my first time doing time. I hope i can submit something working 😉

Tools

  • Eclipse – Java – Slick2D
  • Photoshop or Paint.NET
  • sfxr

I’m in!

Hey there,

another newcomer enters the fray. I will be using Stencyl, The Gimp for “graphics”, and BFXR for sound effects. Don’t think I’ll be able to do any music, but if there is time, I might try out Musagi and see if I can’t make some really crappy tunes. 😉

We’ll see if I actually finish anything. Regardless of the outcome, I’m sure it will be fun. :)

Cheers, Marcus

Oh cool, you’re using Stencyl too? THis should be interesting, then. 😉

Don’t expect anything great. Actually, don’t expect anything at all. 😀 I can’t wait to see what others like you do with it, though. :)

Should I do it???

i have no programming knowledge other than Basic, and a little java.  I was thinking of using Game Maker and just going for it!!! Should I?? tell me as a comment here or on my twitter: @dragonlord52

Thanks!
