Ludum Dare 55 April 13–16, 2024

My Fiancée and I are in!

We will be working together as a team to develop a game in Godot. The plan is to create all of the assets by hand using a combination of:

  • Godot
  • Blender
  • Photoshop
  • Aseprite
  • LMMS

We last worked together on the Big Mode Game Jam 2023 and we were able to put together a somewhat decent start to a sidescrolling 2D platformer game, but this time we are hoping to design a more fully polished 3D game!

i'm in !

heihei-- i'm a self-taught coder and animator from norway; this will be my first compo, not sure how it'll go but will submit if I can finish something playable in time :3 these are the programs I'll probably be using:

  • godot 4.2.1 (running gdscript)
  • aseprite
  • audacity + ableton + magical 8bit plugin
  • opentoonz

*bon courage ! * ♡

I'm in for the third time in a row!

I'm very excited to participate once more, and this time I'll have the full 72h free to work on the jam, so this hopefully means smoother sailing

As usual, I'll be using: - Godot with GDScript as the engine - Krita for graphics - Notion for organizations and notes - I'm not good with music so I'll be getting some from OpenGameArt

Things I've (hopefully) learned from my past entries: - For goodness sake put some sound already - For the love of God don't make another game that relies on asset variety to be interesting

I'm out!

So, my hamster locked me out of my apartment as I went to take out the trash. For now I am literally unable to participate. Good luck to the rest of you. Make sure to carry a set of keys with you at all times, or at least if you have pets.

Here we go again!

Are you too tired and overwhelmed? Do you have a broken back? Who cares, join LD, it will be fiiiiine!

Godot & Blender, here we go with another round of LD jamming with my lovely player 2, @togis .

Maybe some attempt at SFX and Music? Send help!

Last minute changes to votes!

Just got an awesome idea for one of the themes I initially gave a negative vote and had to switch it to a positive one. Now I really hope it's the winning theme!

Probably In?

I'm back again. Not entirely sure if I'll be submitting a game this time. I have another project fighting for my attention and I have to work Sunday night. I guess I'll tune in for the topic and base my decision from there.

Probably using GameMaker Studio 2 for the engine cause it's fun and easy to use

paint.net for art

FL studio for music

Audacity for sfx

We'll see what happens. Hope everyone has a good time!

Make Games to Learn to Make Games

hihi LD magicians, greetings from an indie dev(wip) from China, Big fan of Hideo, and aspire to become a game artist of expression as him.*

Having wanted to make my own games for ages, but always find it difficult to make meaningful progress until GGJ 2024 Jan. The experience gave me both hope and feedback/direction going forward. I found making games (however primitive) is the best way to expedite growth.

Will try Compo a real simple game (Aseprite+Unity) adapted to the the theme, and hopefully learn from the community with its open-source-ness!*

Hello let's rock

Hello everyone. I want to make with Unity (I have many years ago without Unity) Maybe I will be alone or with a musician and an pixel art artist. If somebody want to join me (or join us) please let me know.

I'm *probably* in

I'll take part this edition with a friend and possibly with another friend that does music and sfx. It's our first jam tho so we don't know if we'll manage to publish it in time

I'm in!

This will be my 36th LD. My toolset:

I'll probably be using my Godot C# Library and possibly my Starfield Maker. Good luck everyone!

*Godot 4 is out, but it doesn't support web export yet if you're using C#. Godot 4 is better, but the difference isn't massive. Since Godot 3 is still supported I still usually use it for game jams.

Challenging myself again

It has been a long time since I've participated in a game jam and I've never done it alone so I'm excited to see how much I can get done on my own! I'm a programmer and have absolutely zero art skills so that should be fun.

I'll be using Unity and Audacity for sfx.

Good luck everyone! I'm looking forward to playing all of your games

We're in!

Hi all!

Here we are, in the wet, warming late-spring night air of Nanjing, turning off our lights, hopping on a time travel to the curtain-up of LD55.

We are a team of four creators (@jupiterintardis, @persepolis, @suan, and me) gathering in a guesthouse for the jamming session. All of us expect to find themselves participating in multiple facets of video game development. For the technical part, we'll be working with LÖVE (as well as, well, love). We will work in the open at GitHub: https://github.com/ayuusweetfish/LD55 .

We've been having fun with Stardew Valley for the past whole day; thanks to that, we now have a perfect standard of healthy sleeping schedule to follow. See you on the venue! We wish everyone a fulfilling and fruitful jam*! (*no pun intended)

Excited

Starting to get excited. I'm beginning to feel ready...

First time!

First time I've participated in a game jam, very excited. Been working on a game in my spare time which has taken a lot longer than I expected for my first one...hoping this jam will be a nice pallet cleanser.

Will be using the LÖVE game framework as that's also what I'm using for my side project game.

Participating in Ludum Dare 55

I plan to participate in LD55 within a small team. Our tools may include:

  • Godot 4.2 for a game engine.
  • Git for source control.
  • Roboto, an open source font by Christian Robertson.
  • Various art and music software:
    • Adobe, GIMP, and MS Paint for static art.
    • Bfxr for sound effects.
    • PxTone and Finale for music.
    • Audacity for balancing audio volume.
  • Discord for planning and communication.

Plus whatever else we find along the way.

I also plan to live stream our games and try out suggested games next week Tuesday. Looking forward to the theme and seeing what people come up with!

Challenging myself again

I haven't participated in a game jam in a long time and have never done one alone so I'm excited to see how much I can get done! I'm a programmer with zero art skills so that should be fun.

I'll be using Unity and Audacity for sfx.

Good luck everyone! I'm looking forward to playing all of your games!

Feeling ready

It's been a while, 3 years to be exact. A lot happened in the meanwhile - I got seriously into board games starting full-time as a software developer for a board game publisher, started building my dream framework for implementation of board games, and had a lot of fun along the way, worked on some great board games, and built 3 or so supporting apps for board games.

I have been refining and developing my JS skills, working a lot with NPM ecosystem, React, React Native, Node. The main work project got pretty big, with multiple people getting involved, and many great users helping us with testing and developing of our board game projects.

This Ludum Dare, I want to rawdog JS, like in the old days. Not having to deal with any packages, compilation/build errors, good practices. Just create.

I really like deckbuilding, both on the table and in a videogame - it is just so satisfying when things go right. I also really like short-form highscore-based games, which I think fits deckbuilding quite well. So I think I will combine that with whatever theme comes up.

Wish me luck!

Boost Your LD55: Game Reviews & Expert Tips

Professional developer here preparing for LudumDare 55, live. I am playing viewer games (web-only) from LD54 and sharing my experience from past events to help us all improve our games. I've done like 28 in a row!

I will be using Godot 4.2.1 and GDScript for LudumDare 55, also playing in Blender, Audacity, VSCode, Git and of course all my streaming tools.

Join the stream to learn/prepare for LD and I may even play your game depending on queue size!

Experiences with itch.io sandboxing?

Does anyone have experience with the itch.io sandbox feature?

This will be my first Ludum Dare using an engine with Python/Pyinstaller, which gets flagged by most antivirus software. This looks like the best way to have users run the game with some peace of mind about security.

Would love to hear peoples' experiences with it - both as a developer and an end user!
