I’m in for LD27

Greetings

I’m in 😀

Excited as always.

Even though I planned to create a web game this time using HTML5 or Flash, I will be using the usual homebrewn Java game engine. Javascript is a pretty weird language for a fan of static typing, and Flash doesn’t really work with Linux.

So the tools I will be using are:

Engine: DiLogic (Quite the mess at the moment)

IDE: IntelliJ IDEA

Graphics: Photoshop using my new Wacom Tablet

SFX: SXFR (Duh?)

Music: Either Autotracker or DroneFX

But what the heck is up with the Tower Defense thing?

A great Ludum Dare theme should in my opinion:

  •   Prevent people from preparing art and game logic before hand. Sure Ludum Dare is just for fun, but the time constraint is a big part of the fun.
  •  Force people to create games, they would otherwise never think of. The theme constrain makes it a lot easier to come up the unique ideas

So I’m not gonna make a Tower Defense.

But I might include some tower in a bit different way. #LDTO

Good luck to all fellow participants!

And remember to have fun !

LD27, here i came

Hello. Here i am, once again :)

I dont know what happend this time, but look those theme scores!!!! You ppl are really strange.

Either way, tomorrow the show start and i need to be ready. My tools, as usual, java7 on eclipse using lwjgl and probably stick, photoshop for graphics and sfxr/bfxr for music.

Also, this time ill use applet on dropbox for easy play (welcome linux+os :)). So, beside my code ill add some lwjgl + native signed jars that you can download on lwjgl official page.

Good luck everyone, and remember…..LD27 is for fun, eat every 6 hours, relax every 2 hours and sleep at least 6 hours a day. Healthy mind = healthy code 😉

First Time

So I almost joined in on the last LD, but things got busy. This time I’ll at least give the jam a shot and hopefully come up with something fun.

I’ll be using Futile and Unity for my game, whatever it is.

Ludum Dare 27 entry

Greetings,

I’m entering my third Ludum Dare contest.

I will be using C++ with SDL, taking some engine bits (Game Screen handling) from my previous ludum dare entry, http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=18465

Good luck, everyone!

Do  your best.

A message of peace

Muffler

This evening, on my way home from work, my muffler and car decided they were through with each other and should separate.  The muffler stayed mostly silent through the ordeal, but my car threw an absolute fit – screaming and yelling for the rest of our trip home.  The turmoil was unbearable, and it was embarrassing to see their argument become so public while I could only sit and watch.

With what I experienced tonight, I believe conflict is in very poor taste, and I wished to spread a message of reconciliation to the Ludum community.  For people of all towers (whether offence, defense, or potato), can we set aside out petty differences for one weekend and instead focusing on something greater?  Something lasting?  Something that builds up instead of tears down?  I propose we focus on reuniting cars with their beloved mufflers.

————

Now that that’s out of the way, I have no intention of letting car troubles prevent my first Ludum Dare from being a success.  Good luck to all.

I’m in!

This is my first LD, looking forward to it, hopefully something good comes out of it.

Tools :

Engine – Unity 3D & Mono Develop

Art – 3DS Max/Photoshop

Audio – Ableton Live

Awesome! Best of luck, you’ll have an awesome time, I know it :)

This is where the magic happens

Ludum Dare 27 starts in 6 hours, so I’ve decided to do some preparations. I cleaned up my work area and get ready for some game development, but more importantly, this obligatory workspace post.

Custard Games Workshop

This is where the magic happens. Out of all that expensive hardware, I value my keyboard the highest. I absolutely love having a mechanical keyboard, the sound, the touch, everything!

It’s been a few months since my last game, which was LD26 ASTEROIDS! (the side-scroller). I’ve learnt a lot from that experience, and I hope to improve using that knowledge. 48 hours is not a lot of time, and I want to have as much of it as possible developing the game. I live in Singapore, so the competition ends for me on Monday morning 9 am. I decided to take the day off from work so that I can be developing to the last minute, and also cleared any plans for the weekend.

From the last Ludum Dare, I learnt that mental stamina is absolutely vital. I cannot sustain developing for 48 hours straight, and I need to look after myself to keep my brain juices flowing efficiently. This means getting a decent amount of sleep, not overdoing on the caffeinated beverages, not just eating a shit load junk food, as well as getting some exercise to keep blood flowing. Hopefully the weather will be sunny, so I can spend time by my pool thinking and getting some sun.

Looking back at my last entry, I realised that if I want to score higher on theme, I should interpret the theme more literally to get the votes. Different people have different opinions on the interpretations, but it would be safer to follow the general consensus on the matter. Currently, the most likely theme seems to be “10 seconds”, but people are often surprised at what theme actually gets picked in the end. If it were picked, I think most people would go with a variety of mini games lasting 10 seconds each along the lines of McPixel and those kinds of games. I personally have no idea what kind of game I would make if that theme comes up, but that is half the fun!

I hope to do a lot better this time. My goal is to get the coding done quickly so I can focus more on adding some content and polish to the game. I will hopefully do a timelapse style video showing the progress, but if I don’t manage, I will definitely be documenting the development on my website (http://custardgames.com).

I’m in!

Heya people. I’ve been reading all the nice “I’m in” posts and got a few interesting tips on tools I might want to try out in the future, so these are not completely useless… I’d best throw in my own as well.

First of all, a bit about myself. This is my first real attempt. I played a bit with the Evolution theme in LD25 ( I think ), wanting to try out RagePixel, and I ended up spending way too much time having fun with art and didn’t finish. However, I am not new to making games. I’ve been programming for over 10 years and I am currently working in the games industry. In spite of that, there is something really nice about getting to do your own thing on the side, particularly fun little prototypes for jams.

I’m likely going to be in the Dare, unless my boyfriend really likes the theme and is up for helping me, in which case I will submit it for the Jam. I intend to post a updates about my progress as I go along. I probably won’t have time to work on this the full weekend, so my goal is to just finish something fun and learn how to estimate time better.

Here’s my list of (likely) tools:

Engine: Unity. Using C#, maybe NGUI as well

Graphics: Inkscape and Gimp. Maybe Blender if I decide to go with anything 3D.

Sound: Audacity. Looking into random generators for this.

I look forward to playing all of your games!

My  3rd go around. Using no engine, but this time I will start from my LD 26 code that I wrote from scratch in the compo.

Tools I plan to use…

  • IntelliJ IDEA (community edition)
  • Paint.NET
  • as3sfxr

I’ll try out some live streaming @ http://www.twitch.tv/caprockgames

I will also post timelapse after compo.

I’m In – With Difficulty :)

Hi all!

After missing LD26 due to family commitments, I’m back in for LD27.  Looking forward to it!

I’m using another new technology this time: Emscripten, to compile C++ code using SDL (and ideally OpenGL) into JavaScript code playable in a web page.  The guys have done a remarkably good job on that; I’ve just been trying it out recently, and it’s really cool.  I’m in the middle of a bit of indecision about exactly which libraries to use, as I’ve been playing with SDL, and that’s really cool, but unfortunately not all of it is implemented in Emscripten yet – including some things I was going to depend on, such as setting colours and transparency levels for surface blitting.  I’m having a last-minute look into using the WebGL subset of OpenGL ES 2 in it, in the hope that I can get everything going that I need – though the question arises whether it’s really worth using WebGL via Emscripten as opposed to just WebGL in JavaScript… hmmm (:

The little bit of my own library code I’ve been using, to make sure I can actually get something going in the time, is here.

Adding to this interesting situation is my current lack of Internet access from home.  Well, luckily there’s an Internet cafe nearby, but that may lead to me finishing early, as they’re not likely to be open when LD27 closes at 2am Sunday night, UK time… I have some ideas about uploading at the last minute via my mobile phone, but we’ll see.

Target Platform: Web
Language: C++ / Emscripten / JavaScript / HTML5 / WebGL (wheeee)
Development Environment: QtCreator on Linux (Kubuntu 13.04)
Graphics: GIMP
Sound: SFXR + Autotracker

Good luck to all, and may your bugs be few and uncomplicated!

Thanks! I’ll check that out if I have any trouble. In my early tests, SDL’s mixer module worked fine for me; I’d been using an OGG as in previous entries, and that seemed fine on both Firefox and Chromium (on Linux). I think it said it supports ITs directly too, which would be nice to save space… will see.

I’m in for my first LD48!

Hello everyone. I am going to do my first Ludum Dare Compo! I am incredibly excited for this. I have done a Mini Ludum Dare before, however it didn’t turn out well. Hopefully I have improved my skills since last time. Anyway, without further ado, here are the tools I will be using.

IDE: Visual Studio Ultimate 2010 and 2012

Language: C# using XNA, MonoGame, and JSIL

Sound Effects: BFXR

Music: FL Studio

Voice Acting: Melodyne

Art: Graphics Gale full, Paint.NET, possibly 3DS MAX

Stream: www.twitch.tv/coXine

I do have one question about the rules however.

I know how to make a GlaDOS sounding voice in Melodyne. Would that be allowed for the compo? It doesn’t need any outside assets. Just my voice, and editing in Melodyne.

2witches in!

Me and a friend 2 turkish boys will do this ludum dare for the first time ! We are soooo excited 😀ARKAPLAN

I’m in!

I’m ready for another one :)

As always I’ll be using Eclipse, Libgdx , Paint.net and Bfxr.

GLHF!

Maybe posting about maybe joining and maybe including a library I made that maybe I’ll use.

So, I might join the compo so I decided to share the library that I might be using. This library is very preliminary and quite uninsteresting, but nevertheless, rules are rules. So, this is some code that I have to share in case I decide to join.

So, here’s a zip file containing a C#/XNA library project. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10259143/Systems.zip

I feel I must also state that this project is incomplete and will probably be altered by the course of me possibly using it if I intend to enter this competition. In which case, I’ll share the altered code with the (probably never) finished game.

Changing my submission a little…

I’ve decided that in order to make a good game that not only the public, but I would enjoy, I will have to change.

  • Language: GameMaker
  • Graphics: Game Maker (built in sprite maker), Paint, Paint.NET
  • Audio: sfxr, Possibly Audacity, Maybe my voice recordings, I might try BFXR
  • Drinks: Water, possibly Lemonade =)

Also, can I use music from the following?

Other Videogames (IE Pokemon ETC)

Online Album (IE Cor Metallum, Cavestory, ETC)

Because I can’t find a descent music maker that makes music of my liking.

If you are entering the compo, everything (including music) must be created during the 48 hours. If you are entering the jam, you can use outside content but only if you have permission to use it. So you probably can’t use music from other video games, sorry.

Thanks… I’m doing compo, though. Do you know of any decent music maker for:

Bosses

Levels

Maybe Menu?

Those are the 3 I basically need. The compo’s in about 5 hours 13 minutes, I’m a little scared, as I have no real decent music maker at hand yet.

It’s the most wonderful time of the [third of a] year

Howdy, y’all, and this is your British composer for PIXEL^3 here. MK, pleased to meetcha.

I have no co-ordination with my team members so far but let’s see if we can’t win this. LD23 was a highlight with Boxed In, and since everyone’s holding out for 10 Seconds this’ll be interesting.

[I get to skimp out on music]

I expect edits from my teammates because I’m pretentious, so WAKE UUUUUP
