LD28 December 13–16, 2013

First Try!

This will be my first Ludum Dare attempt, the first game I’ve made in 2 years, and the first indie game I will have made.

Exited? You bet. I can’t wait to find out the theme!

I’ll be going for a 2D style whatever the theme, having decided to try my hand at pixel art.

Good luck to everyone!

Engine: GameMaker: Studio Pro.
Graphics: Pickle
Sound: sfxr and Audacity

Im in! Again!

Im in for the 5th time! new account because i forgot my old accounts password!,  I’ll post a more detailed write up on what i’ll be using in a future post, as im tired and need some sleep!

Thankyou!

I’m in for LD28

This time I’ll be using Python 2.7 with pygame, sfxr for sound effects, Paint and Paint.NET for graphics, git for source control (will have a repo on github) and Notepad++ and vim for editors.

One of my goals is to make sure it runs fine on both Linux and Windows.

Good luck to all, here’s to another fun ludum dare!

I am in for Ludum Dare 28.

It has been a year since my first Ludum Dare, and I’ve been able to compete in every once since.

  • LD 25 – Diabolical Genius – a game featuring an evil genius bent on world domination. Gameplay was fairly boring, involving just selecting an option and watching a progress meter. Fun was my lowest score, Theme was the highest.
  • LD 26 – Tundra King – a non-violent, and somewhat non-sensical, side-scroller where you convince other critters to be your friend through jibber-jabber. It was too easy, with no real decision points. Fun and Theme were my lowest scores; Graphics and Humor were the highest.
  • LD 27 – Picto-Tel – a multi-player game of ‘telephone’ and sketching. It was very unlike most games here, which gave it a higher Innovation score, but may have left it lacking in other ways. Theme was also a highly scored category, while Fun and Humor were low.

icon_eyeFor LD 28 I have the weekend set aside, and I think I will focus on some personal goals:

  • Fun! – especially in having something memorable and having high replay value
  • Theme! – I love trying to fit the game to the theme
  • Animation – none of my previous games have offered much animation, so I’ll try to add some more movement and animation
  • Learn a new library – either three.js, backbone.js, or learn more about about raphael

I will be using…

Languages: JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, PHP?

Libraries: jQuery, Raphael, Backbone?, Three.js?, Mustache.js?

Graphics Tools: Photoshop, Pickle

Sound Tools: Bfxr, Garage Band

Dev Tools: Notepad++, Chrome, FireFTP, HostGator

Good luck to everyone!

Oh darn… I failed all of my personal goals!

Chien Loco is in for the 3rd time in a row

After Minimum Friction on Ludum Dare 26, and 10 Seconds Warning on Ludum Dare 27, I’m back for more programming fun. As the last time I’ll use:

  • Linux (Ubuntu 12.04)
  • g++ and Netbeans
  • Gimp
  • SFML 2
  • The menu, splash and credits code I used for Minimum Friction.
  • The joystick code from 10 Seconds Warning.
  • Audacity, sfxr, Otomata and Punk-o-matic.
  • Mingw32 to cross compile my game for Windows.
  • An Epson scanner if I ever feel the need to scan something into bits.

Let’s see if I can finally get a Beta out by Saturday in the afternoon (maybe 3rd time is a charm). The only thing I’m sure is that I’ll have lots of fun again :).

Maybe I’ll finish!

I’ve participated in a couple of mini-LDs to see how a 48 hour deadline will work for me.  The answer so far is… poorly.  Here’s hoping for my first successful finish!

Language: Java

Framework: libGDX with my library SPE

Graphics: Paint.NET, Tiled, Tile Studio

Sound & Music: Musagi

Timelapse: Chronolapse

Bigger team, bigger fun.

Hi there !

Our team @4Edges will be doing the ludum dare in team. We’ll be 8 this time because we invited 3 guests to join our ranks, we like challenges and being numerous, it’s fun you should try.

The team will be composed of 2 graphic artists, 2 developers, 1 project manager / game designer, 1 sound designer, 1 composer and 1 game designer.

In response to blackmagic, I’d just say I draw a little something about what will happen. Bwahahah….

Now let’s speak about the real things that matter. Yes you know what I mean… the tools.

So our Tools for the Ludum dare will be :

Some mint syrup, Some Cassoulet

35c43f0c57982ae91bcd2dabee088c54 809-2_cassoulet_manchons_de_canard

And MAYBE Unity3D + Orthello + Texture Packer + Photoshop… But the cassoulet just seems like a better tool for ludum dare.

Remember to check us out on twitter @4EdgesGames, and our website, we’ll be streaming our cassoulet launch.

Have fun everyone :) !

Third Time’s the Charm.

This will be my third Ludum Dare and I’m hoping to actually finish something this go around. :)

Tools:

Language/IDE: GML/GameMaker Studio or C# and Xna

Graphics: Made with Paint.net or GameMaker’s graphics editor

Audio: As3sfxr or Bfxr for sounds, not sure about music yet.

Troisieme Ludum Dare

I am in. All set and ready to crank some code over the weekend.

My standard toolset: Unity3d

Once in a lifetime.

I found out about the Ludum Dare from a recording of Markus Presson almost a year ago and I thought it was insane. But I also thought that it was incredible that this community exists and after what has been an incredibly wild ride of a year I have found the Ludum Dare again and this time I’m ready for insane.

So I’m in.

I will be using Java with the Lightweight Java Game Library and SlickUtil along side a bunch of third party software and I will be streaming my coding on twitch under the username strigonLeader. I am looking forward to what I know will be an amazing experience and I wish everyone the best of luck.

Zero-nine-six-one is in!

Yup. I’m in. It’ll be the first “big” Ludum Dare for me (the first one was mini-LD #46), so I’m kinda excited. For real.

Tools’n’Stuff:

  • Code: Java 7, Intellij IDEA 12, Maven 2
  • Libraries: LibGDX 0.9.9, LibGDX Maven Archetype, Universal Tween Engine
  • GFX: Photoshop, Hexels Pro
  • SFX: Guitar Pro, GXSCC, bfxr, Audacity

I’m gonna target HTML5 version, so everyone can play the game w/o additional steps.

First jam, first post

A bit about me:
I’m Adam Tea, 23 years old. I’m a relatively new Unity dev since October, working in a small team based in Auckland, New Zealand. I have a computer science background and about 2 years of development experience.

I’m hoping to have something submitted for the warmup “weekend” before the jam actually starts. Just a basic FPS with some interactions. The main thing I’m hoping to accomplish is a robust world interaction system: triggers, actions, conditions. Things like clicking a light switch to turn on some lights, walking into a trigger to close a door, etc. I’m hoping for this to be the base for whatever game I attempt to make.

I’m well versed in Photoshop but not with any 3D making tools, so I’ll likely be using incredibly basic primitive graphics, or possibly 2D graphics depending on the theme. Realistically I don’t think I’ll end up fancying up the graphics or even using any sound effects. I really just want to finish and submit a project that is playable and is able to, in some capacity, represent the chosen theme.

I anticipate the theme to be the most challenging part, as nobody is sure of what it might be.

I’ve always shied away from doing these jams, but I’m hoping to dedicate myself this weekend to getting this done. Even if I end up throwing in the theme at the last minute, I’d rather that than no work submitted at all!

Here’s a popular inspiring blog post by Spelunky creator on finishing game projects:

Let’s do it!

I am in?

The day is nearing. In just about 3 days and I have yet to find out if I actually am going to participate.

I guess with Ludum Dare, you’ll never know – and then, maybe deep inside, you do.

Currently the plan is, if life does not get in the way, to develop my game using the following setup:

  • OS: Ubuntu 12.04
  • Engine/framework/language: HTML5 with MelonJS
  • Editor: Sublime Text 2
  • Graphics: Pickle
  • Sound: Don’t know yet

I have never used MelonJS before, but have setup the boilerplate and looked into the official tutorial, and it seems straightforward. Last LD I used a more basic framework, Corquette, and was actually quite succesful. But this time around, I wanted to go with a framework that has a little more to offer.

In another perspective I have actually prepared quite find; yesterday I made a delicious Pumpkin (hokkaido) soup that may last several days. So I need not worry about keeping myself alive. (Just remember to get some sleep to, and I’ll be fine.)

Hello Community

Hi I know a lot of people do Ludum Dare and I think the community is fantastic.

I was just wondering if people would say a little about their lives and what they do/ want to do ect?

Good luck in the jam/compo everyone :)

I’m in

I generally work with rather short spans of time so I am feeling somewhat confident that I can at least finish a game.

Code (very unlikely) : Python, html, css, php, javascript

Middleware : Twine, Construct 2

Sounds and graphics : Boscal Ceoil, Wolfram Tones, Sfxr, Paint.NET, Gimp, Audacity

Text : Sublime text

I’m in, I think (first time)

I’ve been putting off actually entering one of these contests for a few years now, but I finally think I’m prepared enough to at least submit something playable by the end of the 48 hours (hopefully).

Language:

Java (Probably)

Frameworks:

Libgdx, Artemis (Maybe)

Tools:

Gimp, GraphicsGale, BMFont, others (probably).

good luck 😉

I’m in again :)

I love Ludum Dare, so I’m in again. I’ll use LibGDX and I probably will export for pc and html5. I’ll pixel art with Photoshop. I’ll use Mario Music Maker for musics and sounds. Also:

Good luck to everyone :)

Ludum Dare again!

This is how time goes by.

I’ll join my second Ludum Dare ( and my third Jam overall ). The first one was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the 10 seconds theme. I never created a game besides any game jams, mostly because of my bad time management. For me Ludum Dare is a great way to get experience in game development and just do something else then SharePoint development …

So about the tool I will use:

  • Visual Studio 2012
  • XNA/MonoGame or Unity – not sure what to use …
  • Paint.NET

My last Ludum Dare submission was created with MonoGame and we faced some major problems with it. Like a missing mp3 decoder – so we had to use 16 bit uncompressed .wav files, a huge problem with ATI graphic devices, shader problems and so on. But C# is the language I like the most and I never really worked with Unity – maybe a great chance to do so? At least I am sure to participate and even got a vacation day from my company for Ludum Dare.

After the first Ludum Dare I have to admit that I really would love to see that a lot more people provide their source to their entries. That’s something I really missed.

I am pretty sad about the fact that the people I worked that last time with aren’t going to join me this time. Just because it’s way more fun in a Team! Anyone still looking for someone? 😛

Daring to Play once again~!

Lets get in on this thang again~

Weekend is reserved, and Jod will be joining again too.  (for two solo compo’s)

My tools:

What I want to do better / try:

  • Maybe try out the new Unity2D stuff (gotta test that before)
  • Condense my ideas to a smaller concept – try going for a strong core, then expand
  • Set aside more ‘playtest’ time
  • Pray for a good theme

I leave you here with an image from a Post-Compo version-in-the-works of the last Ludum Dare game I made! :)
