LD28 December 13–16, 2013

Excitement and Roll Call

Well, here’s me saying that I’ll be participating.

GameMaker + Photoshop

This isn’t my first Ludum Dare, but it’s my first one (not counting the last mini-dare) that is actually on a modern system.

Here’s hoping I can come up with something good with the theme. Fingers crossed!

We’re in

Hello everyone, this is my team’s first Jam, and we’re in for an awesome time.

Best of luck to everyone. Our tools:

– Unity

– Pro tools for audio recording

– East West Quantum Leap libraries for audio sounds

– Photoshop for sprites

– Notepad++(I really like it way more than Mono for programming)

Best luck to everyone

-Lex and team

In!

I’m in. It’s the weekend before finals week so I’m gonna try to finish early. This is going to be my second compo, third time participating (I did the LD24 jam and the LD27 compo) and hopefully it will go better this time.

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Audio: Bfxr

Art: Paintbrush

Let’s DO THIS

Quick Reminder

Just wanted to link my livestream again twitch.tv/bandoflps hopefully people tune in. And good luck to everyone on the battlefield! EDIT: Actually I will not be streaming as it will take much concentration and things away!

Last minute in

I’m in for my second LD. I’ll be using my own open source framework: https://github.com/ianmaclarty/lotech, plus Gimp, Audacity, Blender and maybe Animoog or Figure on my phone.

Mayyybe

I’m in if: (A) I can find the time this weekend, and (B) I can come up with an idea for the theme.

Q: What do you get when you cross “I’m” + “in”?

A: My really bad attempt to humorize my “I’m in” post!

So! I gave myself a goal, and if I finished it, I’d let myself do Ludum Dare. Well, I just finished it. So I’m in for the 48 hour compo!

Tools: Javascript. Someday I’ll get out of this Javascript rut. It’s a nice rut to be stuck in because HTML is sort of platform independent.

Here is my basecode (zipped files). It’s basically a game loop with objects that update & draw on each frame, with a couple bells and whistles.

I use GIMP for image-related stuff.

I have never included sound in a game. Usually I don’t like sound in games – too distracting! But I realize that people like sound, so I’m going to try to incorporate something this time. I might record some stuff and use PreloadJS and SoundJS to incorporate it.

OK, let’s get developing!

IN

Last time it didn’t quite go well, but i’ll definitely do it better this time (meaning i’ll upload at least something — a screen title, a menu, whatever).

I’ll certainly be using some of those tools :

Unity 3d 4.2.

Illustrator.Photoshop.

Ableton Live.

3ds Max.

Netbeans.

Good luck to everybody, have fun!

Ready to Rumble!

Hey everybody, this is our first time participating in a Ludum Dare. Hopefully we can make something interesting for everyone to play! Our goal is to have a playable game by the end of the jam!

What we’re using to make the game:

>> Unity

>> Pixen for art

>> FL Studio most likely for sound

>> Sheer willpower

I’m doing the Ludum Dare #28 Jam with 3 other friends. I will be coding and drawing sprites, @wolfon33 and my friend Austin will be helping me code and design our game, while @XIROXAS will be assisting with sound design.

Follow me on twitter, @zacitus for updates!

Good luck to everyone participating and have fun! :)

My 2nd LD!!!

Hey Everyone!

I’m going to be using Unity3D, BFXR, Blender, etc.

Thanks and good luck to everybody,

Collin

So, Yeah

Anyone want to team up perhaps?

I’m up for a team.

First Ludum Dare

This is going to be my first ludum dare and my first game jam. I’ll probably be making a 2d game using SDL2 in C++, with Photoshop and Ableton Live for mocking up content. I first threw a few framework classes together and uploaded them to mediafire.

https://www.mediafire.com/?vcm4atfjf4iim68

Greetings from Brazil!

I’m proud of participating on my 3rd official Ludum Dare! December 2012 and July of 2013 was very memorable events.
When the clocks hit midnight here, the competition will be officially started! 😀

Construct 2, Bfxr and Inskcape will be my only partners this time. New competitions always brings new experiences.

Good work everyone and… let’s do this! ^^

We’re In

So me and my girlfriend (roseninja) are in. I’m making my own game solo for the compo whilst she uses those 2 days to make art assets for her jam game. Then on the third day I will be quickly programming her game.

Woo last minute Warm-up game.

mainSo for the last week I’ve been furiously working on a fun arcade style game as a warmup. I’ve even put music in. It’s soo cool. I might add more stuff in after the jam because I personally find it highly entertaining. Here’s a description:

You are a scientist who in the process of developing a vaccination against zombieism discovered a serum that could make you immune to death. You go on a mission to rid the city of all the zombies by strapping on some explosives and running into the zombies.

This was made as a warm up game for ludum dare to test my various tools.

Use wasd or arrow keys to move and run into zombies to explode.

And heres a link: http://gamejolt.com/games/arcade/zombie-boom/20072/

In etcetc.

Could need some sleep. Nah, guess I’ll wait 15 more min to see the theme . So I’m in (?)

Usual blah:

Unity , student versions of Photoshop & Maya , Audacity, shitty laptop with microphone for awesome SFX and Bud Spencer Soundtracks for inspiration.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

LETS DO THIS, BRRRRRRRRRRRRRA!

I’m In

Language: Java

Library’s: Slick2D and LWJGL

Art: Photoshop or Paint.NET

Audio: ???

I AM READY TO DO THIS!!!

Participating in my 3rd Ludum Dare

My 3rd time and loving every second of it, deciding to stick to what I know and get an amazing game out instead of trying to learn something new in such a short time frame.

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

API: LWJGL & Slick2D

Art: Paint.NET

Audio/Music: sfxr/bfxr, audacity, http://www.abundant-music.com/

Hello World

I’m in once more! This is not my first Ludum Dare, and I will be using the engine from my last game, found at http://nox.xenotoad.net/ld27/, but I still don’t know what I’m going to use for sound. Sound in Java for me is always a nightmare, because it never works right for me. I really don’t want to use native libraries, but I fear I might have to.

I’ll be using pretty much the same software as last time, that being

Language: Java

Graphics: Java AWT/Swing

Sound: ?

Images: GIMP

IDE: Eclipse

SFX: bsfxr

Music: schismtracker

Engine: LD27 engine

Doing!

Excited for our second LD — will be doing the jam with a two-person team, powered by Unity and Blender.

Good luck to everyone, looking forward to playing your games!

Shambolic last minute “I’m In!” post :-)

I’m in.

Here is my base library code and sample game implementation (from last LD). Heavily refactored to try to separate the library from the specific game logic.  https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21611/ld28/declare/game.zip which I will be using as a reference.

Normally I publish this with a bit of documentation but completely forgot about it this time!

Tools I will be using: Java, Gdx, Modplug Tracker or Ableton Live, Photoshop, Audacity, Coffee & beer

Good luck to all! Looking forward to the theme and playing some awesome games!

I’m in the first time!

I’m in the first time and pretty much got an idea. I just woke up an hour ago and it’s 7am now in germany.

Here you got with the title screen I think:

title

The base idea is that you only got one gift for christmas and to get more you go from house to house to get the children’s gifts. I think it will be a jump ‘n’ run or something basic like that with some funny extras.

My tools:

  • Language: Java
  • Libraries: LibGdx
  • Graphics: Gimp/Photoshop
  • Sound: sfxr
  • IDE: Netbeans
  • Other: TileD

I’m in, barring an emergency

Hello!

Posting for the first time to say that I’m in for now. Depending on the theme I may decide I want to do the jam rather than the compo, but we’ll see. This is my first Ludum Dare and I’m so excited!

I’ll be using:

Unity or Processing or Twine (depending on the theme and the idea I come up with)

Photoshop, Illustrator, and Hexels

Audacity, bfxr, and freesound.org

Good luck to everyone!

Waiting for the midnight!

Hello guys! We are so excited and still waiting for the theme.

Helo I am Tak, and I plan on making a sweet video game. You should play it later if you remember!

Why am I sad? Usually I do Ludum Dare with my partner in crime FUNBYJOHN (@funbyjohn) but sadly, he’s dead (to me) and won’t be jamming with me this time :C

I will be using:

– A computer
– Coffees of insurmountable quantity
– Tak

I’ve done Ludum Dare two times before this one (with FunByJohn), and here are the games we made! They both sucked and everyone hated them.

Well put Lord Joseph! I will join you in said Ludum Dare.

Let us do this thing!

I will try my best

There’s my baby daughter’s school mate’s 1st birthday on Saturday and other parental duties, but I’m excited to try!

I’m using Unity3D, Paint.NET and bfxr.

Look at all the trees!

Fenyx mentioned something near and dear to my heart. Trees. Or *dead* ones to be more specific.

Pen, Pencil, and Paper are things that are probably used a lot. Unfortunately P&P doesn’t seem to get mentioned, or listed a lot in the roster of tools people are using.

Lets give pencil and paper some more love. Post a drawing about how LD makes you feel and show your love for all things paper. And while your at it stop by his “im in” post and hit the plus button.

youarehere

No thats not real paper, ironically. I found out last minute after I had already done a drawing that the gum I have been sticking to my webcam has permanently fogged it =(

Webcam notwithstanding, I’ll be using paper-based design a lot more this and future LDs, and I hope you all will too!

I’m in!

Unity3D, Illustrator, and Mixcraft/Audacity. Bring it on!

Getting In!

Well, in less than 5 minutes before it started, at last I can spare some time and join this LD with my friend.

Our tools of war will be
Platform: HTML5
Code: Textpad
Library: Phaser
Audio: SFXR, maybe AbundantMusic too
Art: Paint/Photoshop

I don’t have any theme preference, so I’ll just wait for the winning theme to be announced, and let my creative (and logic) juice flowing as this is my first LudumDare 😀
Good luck everyone, and have fun!

Also, take this Mushroom (just because)…
Attention: This will not change your clothes to red & white, enlarge your body, and make you shooting flame from your hand.

Ah cool.. I’m also working on a HTML5 with Phaser as well :). Good luck on the endeavor! I’m having doubts I might not finish, got this bad flu, plus the game design isn’t solid as yet!

Final Countdown!

Less than ten minutes and I feel like doing a final post to finalize everything (to pass time and just kuz I’m like that, kay?)

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Graphics: Paint.NET / Pickle / GIMP

Music/Sounds: Ableton Live 9 / Audacity / SFXR (if I need to)

Lazy Game Devs joining the Jam!

We’re joining LD28 game jam as a team of unskilled, untalented and an exceptionally lazy team of last-minute amateurs.   Two sub-par web developers teamed up with a 3D artist. What could possibly go wrong?

Our aim is to get something done.

Our standards are low.

We also pray to God we don’t kill each other in the process.

Github:

Text Game

I’ll be using Ruby and Readline to make a text game.

in

Closing in on 4am, forgot these posts are a thing.

No base code or ideas, going to whiteboard something together during the night.

Using Flash/AS3, FlashDevelop, and Paint.NET if pixels.

Almost Here

Less than 1 minute to the competition. Problem is, I’m having some trouble getting my IDE to link the SDL libraries in my Windows VM (just installed a few days ago). I probably won’t have a windows port for a bit, which means my game may suffer in the competition.

HTML5

Gonna try to make an HMTL5 (WebKit) game solo. We’ll see how this goes.

Im In

My second ludum dare and im ready for the awesome.

Ludem Dare LETS DO THIS

Sean Orms here from R.I.G. Studios

Im a game designer/programmer from scotland.

I will ether be using Unity, Twine, or Adventure Game Studio depending what i come up with.

I hope to see lots of interesting ideas and i wish everyone the best of luck. 😀

On with the show!

My warmup submission

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-28-warmup/?action=preview&uid=29328

I managed to sneak in a warmup submission in the last 10 minutes! It’s just a simple First person puzzler / explorer. I mainly did it to get interactions in the world happening, and I’m quite happy with the system I have in place even if the example only shows off the most basic of them.

Anyway the theme just got announced literally as I was typing this! You only get one, eh? Let’s do it! I have NO idea what I’m going to do hah.

*Goes to drawing board*

Six minutes to go!

Hopefully there will be bonus potato.

I’m in!

Because you only get one! 😀

Tools for my second LD

Not sure yet what I’m making but here are my tools.

Platform: HTML
Code: TextMate
Art: Pixelmator, Pixen, custom drawing
Sound: cfxr
Library: code from a game/engine of mine https://github.com/mzgoddard/spaceleap
Languages: C, JavaScript

Calm before the storm

(EDIT: Note: It actually already started, but I wasn’t able to submit my post due to the site being offline :P)

Hey everybody! I just got a bunch of relaxing sleep (it’s about 3 AM) and now I’m motivated as hell. Let’s do this!

I actually wanted to do a live stream, but it seems that this won’t be possible without any issues, however I’ll try to do a timelapse instead.

And just because everyone else does it, I’ll show you my workstation:

workstation

A second screen would really be incredibly useful, but I dont have one :/ At least I have a second keyboard, because I don’t like programming on immovable and non-adjustable laptop keyboards. Oh, and that thing on the left doesn’t just look like an external HDD I fixed with duckt tape, It actually is.

Anyway, dood luck everybody! 😉

First Time!

Hello everyone! This is our first Ludum Dare (basically our first Jam) and we are very excited for it! Hope we can deliver at least a fun game! Good luck to everyone!

Clueless

“You Only Get One” seem to be a strange theme for me… however, I have already a plan in my head…

SHHH, it’s a secret, I won’t tell, hehehehe 😉

You Only Get One!

Love the theme, You Only Get One. Leaves a lot to think about, I look forward to sharing my ideas with you guys.

That said, I felt the need to update everyone with what I’m going to be using.

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Libraries: jSFML (yes I found a compromise to my indecision!)

Good Luck Everyone!

Here we go!

Good luck everyone!

Shit.

“You Only Get One” was the theme. I was expecting “Corruption” for some reason. “You Only Get One” is a great theme, but makes more sense in a side-scroller or something. Will be harder to fit into a turn based game.

a turn based game with only one turn?

Start :)

Using game maker to create the game.

just my entry post

Placeholder “I’m in” message

Somehow it LudumDare has started again. I may be in this — if so, this is my placeholder “In” post. I will be going in cold, with no preexisting framework – only raw libSDL2 and a the standard support libs for sound/music. Art, or at least doodling will be in Mischief – which everyone should check out.

AND Here We Go!

I’m back with my brothers again after a two year hiatus..  I think we’ll stand much more of a chance to actually FINISH something this year..  We’re about to work out exactly what we’ll be making in a few minutes…

As usual (my programming usual, that is) the game will be coded in Java.  I’ll take lead on the code dev while my brothers will head up resource development.  Hopefully all will go well and we’ll manage to release something this year!

Base Code!

Yo! I’m sorry that it’s so late, but here is my Unity3D base code! (You’ll need RageSpline to use it completely. Oh, and not everything is totally cleaned up, I ripped it right out of another game.)

It does lots of cool stuff:

  • Unified button layout for XBox360 controllers on Windows (even with vibration there!) and Mac
  • Makes cool (optionally glowing) shapes (together with RageSpline)
  • Traversing spline paths (with RageSpline too)
  • Uses Scoreoid for a leaderboard
  • Basic text buttons and vanishing text for notifications
  • Easing
  • A few helpers for math, Unity and some general C# stuff

Good luck everybody!

GRAH! Screw it! Revisions!

I was never able to install Super Play (Though I fully intend to after the compo). That’s one of the many reasons why I hate C++ (I can install libraries very easily on any other language). Anyways, I will have to resort to using C# and MonoGame. I will not discuss the theme-related plans until later, so people can’t steal my ideas :3 . So, I shall get to it!

#YOGO #NOKILL

I’m really happy with the theme choice, I have a great idea in mind for it and as a bonus I’ll be doing Mcfunkypants side quest of #NOKILL.

The biggest hurdles for me are making sure my art is up to scratch and balancing life with making the game on time!

I’ll be keeping everyone up to date via twitter over at: http://twitter.com/coblynau

Oh boy.

Well, this is going to be my very first LD. Not sure if I’m ready for this, but I’m gonna try! And I’m using Windows GDI… lol.

Weapons of choice

I will be using:

  • Photoshop
  • Chipsounds
  • Sublime

I am currently between crafty.js and pygame but leaning towards crafty.

Will update with a final decision after I brainstorm on this theme. Also have a pic of my work station – will post that later. Will also make a time lapse of computer work.

Late check-in

I’m in for the third time, using C2, PS and FL:S whatever it means 😉

Happy dev everyone!

You only get one!

Well, well, well! This is a theme I can actually get behind. I’ve already got a game idea to play around with and if I can get it done quickly enough I might work on a second one.

Fire Damp

You play the part of a Knocker Man, a person who is called when Fire Damp– Methane and the other flammable gasses that accumulate in coal mines– is discovered. It’s your job to go into the deeps, with little more than a glowing worm and a little cricket that makes noise when around Fire Damp and set it off. To do this, you have two tools: The Candle-ona-Stick and the Flaming Rag Slinger. The Candle-ona-Stick allows you to light fire damp from a short distance away. The Flaming Rag Slinger launches a fiery rag in the chosen direction, lighting the fire damp. Depending on how far you are away from the fire is how much damage you take. Too close and you die!

Now, why would you EVER want to use the Candle-ona-Stick? Well, because the Flaming Rag Slinger doesn’t make for good stories. And that’s what you’re trying for. You’re trying to accumulate the best record and story, so that when you finally retire you’ll have an easy time finding yourself a wife and believe you me saying, “An’ then I lit the candle, the sounds of the mine shiftin’ an’ the props creakin’ all ’round me, an’ I thrust it forward into the heart of the darkness. There was a moment of silence, then the ROAR of Fire Damp burning hit me, an’ then the BLAST hit me, an’ I was thrown back. But here I am, alive and well.” is quite a bit more interesting to the opposite sex than “I ran back a ways and chucked a burnin’ ball of rags down the tunnel. The explosion barely even reached me.” After all, who wants a SMART mate when you can have a DARING one.

(The idea is vaguely based on the Knocker Men described in the Fifth Elephant by Terry Pratchet. :D)

Hourly Update 5 – FROM SPACE!!!!

This update is a little later than I hoped, but I’ve managed to crank out three more art assets for the Invaders level.

(The station doesn’t seem to want to upload properly. )
Here we have the first two of three Alien Invader ships. I based these little fellas off of two main sources. 1. The original Space Invaders enemies, and 2. Grumpy Cat (as my observant significant other has noted to me.) I took their aesthetic in a different direction that how I plan on doing most of the Human items, using mostly primitive shapes to give them a unique shape. When you see an alien, you’ll know it’s an alien.

Pre-Existing code

Here is my declaration of pre-existing code.

I am using Pro-Builder for level design.
I may or may not use some shaders I bought previously due to my inexperience with them.

That is all really.

You only get one…

Well, interesting theme, thou i think i voted it out (just like the last two times…)

My first approach is probably not the one most people will go, but it isn’t totally unique either…

But screw it, going through with it. More information after i have slept thou!

Idea acquired – now sleep.

2.18am in the UK, but an alarm set for tomorrow as I have a great idea for my first LD! c: Just hope nobody else has thought of it. :p

LD28 Theme Reaction: YOGOD

“You only get one”, to me implies rarity, and cherishing something that either you have and don’t want to lose–

or happen to be saving it for… yeah, this.

–or want to get that “something” as an ultimate goal. I think everyone conventionally wants to hang onto life, which would fall under “things you already have”–so how about “you only get one death” instead? And I feel like I could do something clever with that no-kill challenge… and with an acronym this good, I can’t go wrong! Fufu!

((and we were just discussing how LD is so much better than new years because you get more than one, dohoho))

And no, don’t care much for keeping an idea to myself–I encourage you to think of something better than me! X)

You Only Have $1

I talked about doing an idle-esque game to the likes of candy box or a darmk room in my last post, this theme was perfect. In all of those games, in some way, you start with only 1 of something and rapidly expand from there. Both of these games however start with your one “item” already increasing.

This is different. This game is a story of you. You are homeless on the streets and you only have $1 left. Your goal is to become richer than your wildest dreams. The game will obviously go through several stages as your riches gain. My current ideas are that you have three main statistics : hunger, health and happiness. Emptying your hunger bar will cause you to lose health. Damage and fighting ect. will make you lose health. Being hungry will make you unhappy. Being cold will make you unhappy. As your riches grow so do your tastes. At the start eating a scavenged meal will make you happy, but when you have money to afford real food this will no longer make you happy. If you have no happiness you are depressed and will find it hard to accomplish any sort of real work without taking measures to prevent it.

I’m not doing too much planning in advance, I’ll let the game develop naturally as I program. I’ll be using javascript+jquery+whatever else I need in making this. It’ll be a bit of a challenge as I am unfamiliar with these languages, but the lack of need for graphics or sound save me time.

Theme Freeze

This is my first LD and I feel a bit unprepared, but I’ll try to put something together over the weekend. Now I just need an idea. So many obvious ones come to mind, I feel like I need to be inventive, but pick something that a newbie can realistically use to make a game. Hmmm. Well, it is just after 21:00 here, so I’ll spend an hour or two thinking, sketching a bit, and try to make some headway on actually implementing something tomorrow morning.

This theme makes me sad

Starting I guess. Kind of disappointed with this theme again. We will see what happens.

Yeah, me too. But I’ll be damned if I let this stop me. (And I wish I had done “minimalism” too instead of discarding it…)

I’m ready!

Table was cleaned, fish was feed, daughter and wife have been sent to the super market! Have fun!

Brainstorm coming!

So many ideas… but just one is making us crazy!

Hmmm……. If only I had one (idea)

This is a little tough for me, I was hoping to make a turn-based game, but I can’t think of a way to fit this in. May have to rethink the type of game im going to make.

Walking in with no libraries or anything, planning on using Unity for a 2D web game.

I’m late, I’m late!

Just an update: I was meant to get my development environment set up. Haven’t quite done that yet.

On the plus side, processing away at the theme! Got a couple of preliminary ideas.

I decided not to go with VIM, nor PyCharm…instead, I’m giving Sublime Text 3 a try, in Vi mode! I feel like it will make the nicest lightweight Python IDE.

Good luck, all!

I”m gfoing tomake game

I’m going to make game for Ludum Dare #28. Her e is my game theory:

game theory -- void subspace ( universe energy ( game energy ) )

game theory — void subspace ( universe energy ( game energy ) )

“No kill” is more inspiring…

… than “you only get one” in my humble opinion. Then again the theme always leaves me cold to begin with 😛 I’m going to be focusing on making an interesting non-violent game first and a “you only get one” game second though I think.

Technology :

  • Sublime Text 2
  • Love 2D 0.9.0
  • GIMP
  • Audacity
  • Renoise

Good luck y’all 😀

You only get one… action!

I wasn’t sure if I wanted Corruption for the theme, as I had a lot of ideas on what I could have done.

Instead we have this, so I think I am going to be going with a 2D platformer where you only have a single action you can do.  Let’s see if I can make this work efficiently.  If not, I at least finally get a chance to try Unity’s new 2D features!

Genetically Enhanced Rabbits

Well, I tried to go for genetically enhanced rabbits, but somehow ended up with robots. Rabbits, robots, what’s the difference?

I’m in!

I’m in again!

Tools: Vs.net, gimp, sunvox, bfxr, sfxr, audacity, paint.net, SDL, OpenGl, OpenAL, Blender.

Language: C++.

Framework: LD28-framework

Make it Count.

I’ve decided upon my idea, named Make it Count.

You are an [insert action movie profession], tasked with protecting valuable [stuff] and hostages from [enemies].  Still haven’t decided.

Anyway, your whole shtick is that you do every job with just one bullet, no matter how many bad guys happen to be there.  So, every level will be a puzzle where you have to ricochet the bullet the right way to hit all of the enemies, with minimal hostage death or property damage.

It seems like this game will be simple to code, so the hard part will be getting the levels to be challenging and entertaining enough…

That’s a really great idea. I like it!

Suggestion: I don’t know if it needs to be just one bullet — but — you only get one chance each time — if the hostages die, there’s no way to undo it, etc. — make every encounter slightly different — you can never go back and retry the old one, etc…

I might enter. I dunno. I just found out it was on… just before.

Lets see what I can do…

He’s the developer Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him, because he can take it. He’s not a hero, he’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector… a dark knight.
