LD28 December 13–16, 2013

Third Time

Man, that second time was abysmal.  I’m just going to be using SDL, LMMS, Audacity and the GIMP for this one.  Before I was trying to also limp along with an engine that isn’t fully functional and trying to add more functionality as I went.  Next time, though, I’ll try and do 3D again.  As SteamOS is released today, I may try it out and get my entry running on it, if possible.

As usual, Jenkins will be handling the continuous integration and there will be Windows stable builds here, unstable here and Linux stable builds here, unstable here.  The GitHub repository is here, which I’ll have a simple window up and running in before the competition begins, and I’ll be streaming here.

I’ll probably be getting a late start as it begins early in the morning for me.  All design work will most likely be done with a text editor which will also be in the GitHub repository.  Assets will not be stored on there, instead they will be on the FTP site which I’m either going to have the assets download (not very likely, as time is limited) or bundle them with the builds from Jenkins.  During the event, I’ll make log entries as necessary.

Here’s what I’ll be using:

Platform

Language: C++

Operating Systems: Linux and Windows

Tools

Editor: gVim

Compiler: GCC

Version Control: Git

Image Manipulation: GIMP

Audio: Linux Multimedia Studio

Good luck everybody and have fun!

I’m in again.

Starting out with what I had from a previous unfinished game.
Well, not the same files, but the same idea. I just want to do something with this!
Just some grids and hope for a theme that I can shoehorn in this.
I can’t even draw a sticky guy, so I have to resort to … whatever this is

getting ready for everything

getting ready for everything

I will be using unity3d obviously.

I’m in…

I’m out of my mind… sort of…

My very first game developer experience is still fresh (for Charity Game Jam 2), haunting me ever since… yet here I am…

Alice’s World is buggy and I’m patching it up as my time lets me (sadly work keeps me from polishing much). There’s a handful of issues with my ISP at home as well but a friend can help me out probably in the time of need.

Anyhow I found my first jam to be fun and painful at the same time. I’m very pleased that I was able to do something and while it’s far from perfect but I’ve learnt a lot from this small project and I’m pretty confident with a bit more time and research I’m gonna be able to polish Alice’s World up a bit and let people enjoy this tiny adventure. The development went as expected though – I made a lot of rookie mistakes.

Nevertheless I’m gearing for LD28.

  • Engine: Unity 4.3 (2D toolset)
  • Graphics: Gimp
  • Code: C#
  • A full table of white chocolate

Hopefully in the weekend  I’ll be able to make it and also patch up Alice’s World. I’m pretty determined to do this so let it roll guys.

~ Wishing Luck to Everyone on the Jam! ~ And peaceful Holidays to rest it up after the Chaos of this event. ~

Ready for this Compo!

Excited for my first official LD. Will be using:

  • Language: Java
  • Graphics: GIMP
  • LWJGL or Java Canvas
  • Coffee

We’re in…

We have team of 3 including myself. I will be helping art and programming, but mostly will be focusing on music and sound this time around. I’m looking forward to relaxing and making some music instead of pulling my hair out debugging and implementing functions.  This is my 3rd ludumdare.

Language: Java + lwjgl

Music/Sound: fl studio

Art: Flash/Photoshop

IDE: Netbeans and Eclipes

Note to all the new peoples: Sleep normally, you will get more done if you sleep instead of drilling away at the code. Speaking from experience it will cause more problems if you don’t sleep.

First time in the LD

I took part in some game competitions but this is my first time in Ludum Dare. I’m working alone and I chose Compo.

  • Engine: Unity 3D
  • Language: C#
  • Sound: don’t know yet
  • Graphics: Gimp/MS Paint

I’m in…

…for my… mmmmm….. 1st LD. I’m feeling a little nervous.

My “weapons” are:

Unity 3D with c#
Pickleeditor

This is my workstation 😀

Ready? Good Luck for all.

We’re in!

Hey guys,

just here to let you know that my girlfriend and me are joining the Jam. Our tools:

Development: GameMaker Studio Pro
Graphics: Pickle
Sound: Bfxr, Audacity

We are really excited and also a bit nervous, because this will be our first game ever, but sometimes you just have to jump into the water, I guess. Can’t wait to see what great games you all are going to create!

Cheers, Team Kutullu aka Nora & Marcus

I am in! Second Ludum Dare!

I was the one who made the unusually challenging 10 Second Paper Flight. This will probably be a hectic Ludum Dare for me since I’ll be at a Christmas Party on the Saturday and work on the Monday, but what the hell, I like making games and I can use some of Saturday to plan something interesting.

Anyways, I plan to use the following tools:

  • GitHub (Source Control, my first ever solo project to use source control :O)
  • HaxeFlixel (Game Libraries)
  • Paint.Net (Graphics)
  • Tiled (Possible Level Design)
  • iNudge (Possible music)
  • Bfxr (Sound Effects)

My plans/advice so far for the jam, based on last Ludum Dare:

  • Plan well.
  • Constantly show your progress.
  • Graphics and Music are just as important as the game itself.
  • Know how and where you will distribute your game.
  • Everyone likes Time Lapse vids
  • Follow the 621 (Sleep, Food and Clean Yourself :P)

Everyone have a good Ludum Dare!

How do you export iNudge music? Looks like a cool tool.

I’m gonna use Audacity, they should develop an audio export tool because it is a genuinely good tool for producing short looping music.

I’m in!

Hey 😉

I am in too :) (compo)

Programming language : Java
IDE : Eclipse
Graphics : Paint.NET
Sounds : sfxr, iNudge
Libraries/Engines : – (Java Graphics API)

Good luck to all 😉

Regards Frank

This time I am (hopefully) in

I participated in LD since #25, but I only managed to finish #25. #26 I abandoned on day 2, and #27 I gave up before I started because I have no idea what to make.

In #25, I used XNA. In #26, I used SDL but my personal code was so buggy that I spent more time debugging it than coding the game.

This time, I am using SFML and my personal code base is much stronger and more stable now. https://github.com/ZwodahS/z_framework is the link to the framework and hopefully this time I will be able to finish it and not give up halfway.

The set up I have this time :

Language/Library : C++/SFML
IDE : vim
graphics: Gimp
sound : sfxr/musagi (probably will not touch sound until I am really done with the other component)

Cheers

Tools for Dare

I think this is my third LD or fourth, whatever. Anyways it will be my last One Game A Month twitter challenge game as well as an awesome. We have a location for LD in my school and most of the people are doing jam there. I will takeover some corner and do the solo challenge. I love working in teams during jams but Ludum Dare for me is all about challenging myself compo is perfect for that.

My tools of trade are:

– Unity

– Photoshop

– Alchemy

– Blender

– Bfxr

– Audacity

Setting up my HTML5 environment with node Yeoman

As I mentioned in my obligatory “I’m in” I decided to make my game with HTML5 and have finally chosen as engine: Phaser.

After several days trying to create a good environment I found the perfect solution and will share as it serves someone else:

INSTRUCTIONS

– Install Node.js

– Install the required npm modules by issuing these commands:

npm install -g yo generator-phaser

– Create a new directory for your game:

Unix/OSX : mkdir ~/Desktop/mygame && cd $_
Windows : mkdir %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\mygame && cd %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\mygame

– Invoke the generator:

yo phaser

– Run a local development server (livereload enabled) with this command:

grunt

– Package your game (i.e. minify css, html and js) with:

grunt dist

I’m in with construct 2

First time in Ludum dare. This is going to be an awesome weekend :)

Will be using Construct 2. It’s a good mixture of power and ease of use. Limitations are not concern in a project of this size.

Sfxr, Pain.NET and Inkscape will be supporting.

Lets see what this brings!

We’re in! (nope)

nope-logo-notext

We are a small team (mainly composed of three people and a virtual cat) which is about to tackle this LD and actually hopes to survive it!

In our case, we’re going to use the following software to help us:

  • Unity – for the complete game design.
  • Inkscape – for any kind of vector graphics.
  • Paint.NET – for any simple graphics.
  • Audacity – for the sound editing needs.

Also, we’ll be taking resources from the following sources:

  • OpenGameArt.org (credits will be given properly in a case-by-case basis)

Finally, we’ll make use of other sites to help us in general.

  • WordPress – for the website.
  • Thesaurus – for all of our wordy needs.

We’ll try to make updates as we go, but due to time constraints, it may not be possible at all!

Anyhow, wish us luck!

PS: We’ll be hosting our game / site on http://nope.hol.es/ld28/ , so you’re all welcome to come have a look and maybe share some story :)

Suese is in.

My goal in life is to be #1 in Ludum Dare in any (hopefully the overall) category.

Last time I got #101 place in graphics, and #120 over-all with “Space Demolition”. I’ve set my personal bar pretty high now. Pressure is on.

Here is my Basekit: suese_ld28_basekit.rar
It does lots of stuff, graphics, particles, UI, music, BFXR, random functions, game flow. Next LD I will make a brand-new base kit with hardware acceleration. For now, this one does me good.

Hi when I use “unrar” on your RAR file in Debian it says that it fails to extract 52 files.

Hmm.. not sure. Seems fine to me and a few other people.
