LD29 April 25–28, 2014

Prepping up

As 9pm est draws near I find myself tweaking more and more with my “engine,” adding functionality, fixing bugs, and all around improving the code base. I already made a post publicly sharing it, but I’ve changed it quite a bit and the previous post just had a link to my dropbox. So I figure I’d write up another post sharing the new code, since it’s just fair.

You can check it out here, if you fancy:

We are definitively in!

Hey Ludumdarians! Me Dagothig & Kiasaki are participating in Ludum Dare 29! We will do the compo edition, in Paris, visiting the other 40ish people participating over there! Here are our tools:

Language/Framework: Custom Javascript wrapper around Pixi.js (WebGL not canvas :D)
Art: Gimp
Audio: Audacity

It will be a 2D game, looking foward to meeting you all and trying out all the good submissions of the 29th edition!

Have your games source on GitHub guys and girls 😀 (That way people can learn from you experiences oh & you can show off to an employer you ugly ball of 48h quality code)

This time, it’s more than one

Another Ludum Dare.

But this time, we are a team. So it will be the Jam instead of the Compo and hopefully all relaxed and fun.

Tools of choice:

Unity + Visual Studio, Photoshop for 2D Graphics, Adobe Audition + Micro for sounds and Reaper if there is time for music.

My good friend and colleague will hammer away at ideas, game and level design while I code and paint.

Good luck to you all. May the most charming team win. – Not those people with the most talent. That would be unfair. 😉

My charming personality and my handsomeness is unfair.

48 hour MMO? Hmm maybe… Also come to our meetup in the Netherlands!

Hi,

I’m in, again, probably alone this time.

I was stupid by accepting challenge of proving my colleague wrong: It’s possible to build an MMO in 48 hours. I’m not entirely sure yet, if I get a better non-MMO idea I will postpone that challenge, for a later Jam.

Tools… I have some tools:
Unity2D – Probably not going to burn my fingers in making a 3D game again, or use the 3D part for making a 2D game… :/
Photoshop – Maybe Graphics Gale, as good Pixel Art alternative.
Reaper (+ a bunch of free VSTs) – For my Music and SFX needs. Oh and also for recording stuff…
Blender – Hmmm, probably not, but you never know.
Hardware – I also have some hardware: Good headphones, a condenser microphone, a Wacom tablet and my laptop. I might use a OR as well.

I would also like to invite you all, again, to our meetup in Enschede, The Netherlands.
Find it here!

There is Oculus Rift available for your ideas, and a Microphone as well for your sound recording needs.

Hope to see your tomorrow!

Count me in!

Hello, all!

So, its my first LD, and the main goal i am trying to achieve – learn how to get things done. I have a problems, when it comes to time organization and motivation.

Hope LD will help me to prototype projects fast and good.

I will use:

  • IDE – FlashDeveloper
  • Framework – Flashpunk
  • Paint tool – paint.net
  • Maybe AS3corelib (http://code.google.com/p/as3corelib/)

Thanks and good luck :3

I’m In. …Again.

Joining in on my 4th consecutive ludum dare. This one will prove one of two things –

  • I can only successfully make games in April
  • I have a 25% success rate at making games.

I’m hoping for the first one, at least in preference to the second!

Tools being used:

Unity

Paint.net

Sketchup

Guitar pro + FLStudio

SFXR

Probably a hundred other orbiting apps I’ve forgotten about.

Im in for the first time! :D

Hello everyone, as the title says im in now for the first time.
Ill be using:

Java – Lost Engine
Paint.NET
bfxr and pyxeledit
and maybe other software aswell.

Ill be livestreaming it all on: http://www.twitch.tv/pontus_lss
My dropbox isnt working ill post a link later on.

Good luck everyone!! //Pontus Wirsching

Back for more

It’s going to be a busy, busy weekend over here…but I think I should still be able to cobble together another 48hr entry. This will be my second Ludum Dare.

  • Programming Language: C#
  • Game Engine: Unity
  • Graphics: Blender, Photoshop
  • Audio: The sound of a grown man weeping quietly as a physics bug brings ruin to yet another game jam entry.

My entry in the previous Ludum Dare was Shabby Buffet, a mangled mess of a game that was noticed by a few awesome Youtubers. I was shocked to see it being played by the Yogscast recently, to the tune of ~600,000 views. o.O

My Engine

I threw this together for my own little personal warmup I’ve been doing over the last couple of days.

Features :

Audio (play sounds through audio channels)

Mouse (basic mouse position tracking)

Keyboard (track which keys are down)

Graphics (draw images, basic shapes, text – Rotate, scale, alpha, position)

Tech :

Renders with the canvas element from HTML5 and is written in javascript.

It’s very very poorly commented, is probably extremely inefficient and I’m sure has a load of bugs hiding in there, but I haven’t made this with other people in mind (it’s basically just for me to use for LD). That said, if people want to crack it open and take a look and use whatever snippets they might find helpful, please feel free. It can all be found here:

http://noomcentral.com/lud29/libs/

I almost feel like I might have expended too much energy working on this, I’m very tired at the end of today, but at the same time I’m very happy that I got all of this done.

Good luck everyone and I’ll see you all tomorrow!

My workspace

workspace

Nothing fancy but it’s enough. I’m ready for Ludum Dare, but I don’t have much time, so I’ll be using open game art :)

I’m in!

This is my second Ludum Dare. The first time I entered I joined the Jam, but I had very little experience and so I fucked up the game engine. This time I’m going to join the 48 hour competition and hopefully I’ll be able to, at least, make something playable.

Programming language: Java (only awt graphics)

Textures and images: paint.NET

Music and SFX: Guitar Pro, Audacity, BFXR, SFXR and GXSCC.

wanna use my java 2d game engine? 😉

I’m in!

My 3rd LD! cleared my schedule, booked Monday off, I cannot fail!

I’ll be using LibGDX, Eclipse, blender, gimp, paint.net, tortoise git.

I’ll be using my ever-expanding base code library again, which can be found here: https://bitbucket.org/CiderPunk/gamebase

Good luck everyone!

I’m innnn! :D

Yes! I managed to complete all my tasks and have a free weekend just for Ludum Daring 😀

I really hope that I’ll have enough time to complete a game (I still have some work to do =\) and I’m not sure if I’ll go for the compo or the jam. But I’m definitely in!

So, my ninja weapons are as always:
I’ll be programming in AS3 using FlashDevelop.
I’ll be using the beloved FlashPunk library.
Graphics made in pixel art (GraphicsGale) or vector art (Inkscape).
Sounds and musics will be made using BFXR and SunVox.
A lot of chocolate will be eaten too..
And of course, live streaming! ( http://www.twitch.tv/galman33/ )

(Or maybe, if I’ll go really crazy.. Maybe I’ll make a 3D game using Unity?!)

Good luck everyone!
Happy jamming 😀

Yay, my first Ludum Dare!

Hey, this is going to be my first Ludum Dare compo.

Am I allowed to use an engine I wrote beforehand in the compo?

I’ll be using Java, the lightweight java game library and my graphics will be made in Photoshop.

Rules say: Base code and personal code libraries are allowed, but should be declared and shared with the community prior to beginning your entry. To do this, make a blog post.

Oh well, I guess I’m in again.

ludum_rapsheet

I really thought I would sit this LD out. But it turns out that with a free weekend in my hands and the missus conveniently out of the house, I simply can’t resist!

So, what are my goals for LD29?

First I want to pay special attention to the theme. Fortunately the themes in the final voting round seem like some of the best in a long time. In my previous LD entries my connection to the theme has been superficial at best, so this time I want to make it my central focus from the beginning.

Second I want to take things at my own pace. I’ve always raced for the 48-hour compo time limit, but this time I’m taking things slow and not worrying about the time. If I feel like taking an extra day to polish my game, then off to the Jam it is!

Good luck to everyone! Looking forward to all the amazing games!

Glad to see you back. I can still remember Curse of Mellon, that was one of the first LD28 entries I tried. And I still couldn’t forget, how I loved its music 😀

PlayCanvas @ Ludum Dare

We back again. The PlayCanvas crew will hopefully be doing a couple of submissions this weekend.

But what you’re really interested in is what the graph looks like compared to last time.

Graph of PlayCanvas's performance

PlayCanvas @ Ludum Dare

As you can see, a big improvement last time for our three entries:

Going Around

ACCELERally

Hungry Self-Eating Centipede

Looking forward to seeing what we come up with this time.

P.S. Don’t forget about the PlayCanvas Deal on the Ludum Deals page!

Houston why yes we do have a problem

DO IT YOURSELF THEY SAID

SAVE MONEY THEY SAID

“I spill my drink!” -guy from a pub in Deus Ex

Who would’ve known this prophetic piece of insight would come back to haunt me. Ah spill madrink on the keyboard, it started constantly spamming random characters everywhere, I tried to pull off a heroic display of craftsmanship and ohgod only 8 hours left

LD status: extra challenge

Stream status: jeopardized

Zawa status: zawa

Guess I’ll have to take the boheme route and hop between public access computers or something. I did have backups of my basecode at least, but seems like there’ll be a new dimension of juggling involved in getting shit together.
