LD29 April 25–28, 2014

Party time

I’m in. My main goal for this compo is to strictly only use C# with Unity. I’ve been a Unity developer for years, but I’ve only used Javascript and I’ve begun to run into technical limitations.

Tool list:

  • Engine: Unity
  • Editor: Sublime, most likely with Vintageous
  • Art: Procreate for iPad
  • Sound: Bfxr, audacity, whatever samples aren’t too outrageous
  • Timelapse: Chronolapse
  • Version control: Git, Github
  • Sustenance: Tomato soup, crusty bread, chai, lots of fruit
  • Working music: Beatbuddy Soundtrack on endless repeat

That’s all I can think of for now. Best of luck to all entrants!

Its gonna be yet another good one

Cant wait to start Ludum Dare 29 so pumped eyes fixed on theme hopes are high eclipse is ready im ready :) good luck everyone 😀

Hey Ludum Dare 29

So this will be my second attempt at the LD.

The first one was full of troubles and I almost gave up ending the game, but I didn’t and a very simple game came out.

This time I’m gonna try to make something better, but still keeping a low profile to finish the game in time.

I’ll be using

– Java with LibGDX and Eclipse

– Inkscape\Gimp for the artworks

– Audacity,Bfxr and maybe FL Studio for any audio

-Tiled

Good luck and have fun to everyone!

Reporting for Duty

This will be my 3rd Ludum Dare after I did the “You are the villain” and “10 Seconds” themes. Girlfriend is away for the weekend so it’ll be non stop coding and I hope to get something not terrible completed. I think music/sound will be key in this one as my previous games lacked them.

Tool list:

  • Language: Java
  • Framework: LibGDX (possibly Artemis as well)
  • Art: Gimp/Inkscape
  • Sound: Bfxr
  • Timelapse: Chronolapse

Happy Coding!

Haha, I did exactly the same LDs! Good luck! 😀

I’m in, with a live stream

Yep. I’m live streaming from twitch.tv/rpjohnst for the whoooole time. I’ve had a lot of fun and success with game dev at this scale, including 24-hour competitions and months-long ones, but I’ve never done LD or live streaming before, so this should be exiting!

I’m planning on using these tools:

  • Love2D
  • TileStudio or Inkscape?
  • sfxr?
  • vim

We are in!

This was originally posted on our teams blog at http://meteoritegames.com/blog/.

As is customary with Ludum Dare; everyone posts something stating their commitment to participating in Ludum Dare and what their tool set is going to be. This is Meteorite Games saying “We are in!”, at least most of us are anyway. Our team will consist of:

  • Kai – Designer and Programmer
  • Connor – 2D Artist
  • Daniel – 2D Artist
  • Alex – 2D Artist and Animator
  • Tim – Programmer

Since we are a team, we will be participating in the 3 day jam, with the relaxed rules which means there may be a possibility of bringing back “the mouse” from Project Limitless! As for tool set, we will mostly be going with tools we are familiar with which include:

  • Engine: Unity
  • Language: C#
  • Art: PhotoShop
  • Sound: Haven’t decided, just depends on who gets stuck with doing sound.

We will probably be looking at creating a 2D game since that is what most of the team feels most comfortable with in order to create a game in 72 hours. Also Tim will probably be putting together a time lapse using Chronolapse to show the progress from inception to completion or thereabouts.

In in in

Taking part for the first time, excited.

Not yet sure about the tooling really. Either libGDX or one of the popular Haxe/JS Frameworks.

Maybe SunVox for BGM (if any), Audacity + microphone for SFX.

Gimp and Blender for artwork.

Will probably crash and burn but am really looking forward to trying this.

Have a good one everybody!

hello

Just dropping a post before catching some sleep before trying the compo tomorrow.

This is my first attempt, and will hopefully (internet allowing) stream the whole lot. Should be viewable at twitch.tv/tastyoishii

Tools:

dev environment:

dependant on theme, I will be using construct 2, unity,d3.js (svg) or a very basic text based engine I wrote a year ago.

design tools:

I’ll be using photoshop CC

audio:

audiotool may come in handy, and I’ll be checking for other tools as needs serve. I might even try soundcloud on my phone for sample recording.

Audio wise I have no idea what I’m doing, so tips would be awesome.

Good luck!

Hi Everyone!

Hi everyone,

My name is Green Lightning and although this is my first Ludum Dare, I’m going to be totally open, stream development on my twitch channel and post the code on my github account. You will also be able to play the game on my website.

I’m going to use Haxe, OpenFL and HaxeFlixel as programming framework, Sublime Text for coding, Gimp for graphics and Bfxr for sound effects. I also prepared a template, so I can start coding the interesting stuff quickly.

As a warm up exercise I already made a simple asteroids clone (just flying around and shooting asteroids). You can play AsteroiDare or browse the code.

I wish all other participants good look and hope that everybody has a fun time during the weekend!

Let’s make some awesome games :)

Have a nice week-end!

I’m going with Haxe too, but based on Haxepunk.

Trying This

I have never done Ludum Dare before, but I feel like this will be a great way to encourage me to really push myself with coding and game development. I have made a few simple games previously, but this will be my first time trying to make something a bit more polished. I am planning on coding the game in Javascript with the Phaser engine and using the Sublime Text IDE. I will be creating the graphics in Photoshop and the music in Ableton Live.

Some helpful Unity classes

Hi everyone,

I’m using this post to declare the code-base I’m using and as a way of sharing some helpful utility classes for you to use if you use Unity and script in C#. The classes include the following:

  • A simple extension class that enables object pooling
  • A way to bulk swap materials on a game object using ‘material sets’
  • A nice shuffle extension for lists
  • Two different simple finite state machines, one is monobehaviour and coroutine-based,  the  other is plain C#
  • A sound manager
  • An extension method to copy a component and all its values to another gameobject
  • Some other stuff…

You can get it here

Good luck everyone, enjoy the next 48 hours!

We’re In (Plus: Man Down + Spotify + Cats)

We are in, 6th LD in a row!  We are a man down at the last minute, so it will just be the two of us; me doing the game and the music, James doing all the art.
Here are our weapons of choice:

  • GAME: Contruct 2 [r168]
  • GRAPHICS: GIMP 2.8.10 / Paint.net
  • MUSIC:  Korg / Garageband / Cakewalk
  • SOUNDS: sfxr / bfxr / Korg

Follow us on Twitter @seconddimension, and check out the new website I did at seconddimension.co.uk

We have also set up some public Spotify playlists, searchable under #LD29, and some collaborative ones that you can add stuff to, links are here:  Super MixtapeRelaxed Mixtape and Instrumental Mixtape.

Finally – Workspace and Cats:

I’m in!

Third time participating but first time trying to build something with JavaScript (sorry AS3)

I’ll be using:

  • My pre Ludum Dare HTML5-ish boilerplate (hosted on Bitbucket)
  • FLStudio, Bfxr for creating the sounds and Howler to play them
  • Some Adobe software for art or maybe Hexels if I feel like it. And most likely Pixi to render it on screen

I’ll also be streaming at twitch.tv/rvmook

Good luck everybody!

First Timer

First time participating in LD. Can’t wait.

Ill be using:

Engine: Unity3D

Language: C#

Art: PhotoShop, Illustrator

Sound: Audacity, Westar Music

And: Coffee

Ill be posting updates on my blog: vidagamedev.blogspot.com

Low-specs in the house, holla back!

SO.

I am also doing LD29.

My mission? A game in Moonscript and LOVE.
My ship? A derped out, 3GB of RAM, 1.2Ghz lappy-toppy missing its left Ctrl key, running Arch Linux.
IDE? What are you, a plebeian? Clearly, Vim is the only text editor.

Yup. B)

Windows bastard race checking in. Ubuntu doesn’t work right with my graphics card, drivers keep crashing.

I’m in again, and I’ll finish this time!

Last time I didn’t finished, and got quite frustrated because of that (post-mortem here)

This time is the time, I’ll end this competition with a playable game, whatever that game is!

The tools are the same I chose last time:

  • code: Python, if necessary C
  • art: GIMP, Inkscape
  • sound: sfxr, audacity, hydrogen

And everything on Linux, of course.

Good luck to everyone!

PS: Se tiver algum brazuca por aí deixe um alô!

I’m in!

I am  another person who is trying this for the first time so i’m pretty excited.

I’ll be using Unity with c#,  gimp for graphics, and ha I don’t even want to think about sound.

Maybe i’ll be able to get my cat to meow into my mic..

4 Watts of Physical Lasers

I’m going to try to make a multiplayer laser videogame perhaps. This will be my first LD competition, but I have to get off work in time. Might have to start a few hours late.

Some of my laser work/videogames are on lasers.io. Might be cool to stream like Twitch Plays Pokemon, but that’s a lot of work.

I’m going to make use of preexisting libraries I wrote for lasing. And two laser projectors + DACs.

Not sure if this has to be a completely solo lock in. Anyone in the Atlanta area interested in hanging out while working on LD?

What kind of cameras / equipment do I need to multiplex a video stream? I’d have to buy it in a hurry if I aim to live stream. My email is on my website if you want to contact me, just Google around.

In

I’m in.

The goal is to submit something playable, all else be damned. I will not give in to the temptations of ridiculous scope!

Here’s my halfarsed base code: http://www.mediafire.com/download/k9s1f20knleaf9d/src%282%29.zip

Nothing very exciting there though. I had nicer and much more code before I reformatted my hard-drive, but because I’m retarded it is now gone. But oh well.

Tools:

Haxe/OpenFL

Flashdevelop

Gimp and/or Inkscape

Idunno about sound. I’ll try work out something. Or not, depends.

I’m In

This will be my first Ludum Dare.  I’m participating solely for the challenge and to hopefully meet some new Indie Developers along the way.  I’ve been watching the countdown timer pretty steadily the last 24 hours.  Can’t wait to see the theme!

My toolsets:

Engine: Unity3D (C#)

2D Graphics: Photoshop

3D Graphics: Blender

Music & Sound: Whatever fits from the list of content generators

Unfortunately I won’t get as much time as I’d prefer this weekend to create my game, but I’m determined to produce something playable over the next few days.  I will bet tweeting from @eatsleepindie while I work.

Good luck everyone!

* EDIT:  After reading the recent post that outlined the rules a bit more, it seems that I can use NGUI for my project.  I’ll be importing it into a completely blank Unity3D project after the Jam starts.  A free version is available for download at http://www.tasharen.com/?page_id=140

I am in the *exact* same situation minus the very last two sentences, however I probably know a lot less than do you in terms of programming.
