First Ludum Dare Expectations!

Hey guys, I thought I’d do a before and after thingy, so here are my expectations for my very first Ludum Dare!
By the way, this isn’t my “I’m in post”, that can be found here : http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2014/04/14/myveryfirstld/

So, here’s some info and expectations.

  • I’ve been sick the past week, feeling a little better today, let’s hope it won’t influence my performance too much!
  • I’m guessing I won’t get high in the rankings, but who knows!
  • I’m planning to make a 2d game, either topdown or sideview. It might even turn out to be a puzzle game type of thing.
  • I do think I’ll get to finish it. I’m going to start small and work my way out from there, hoping to make it not too big in the beginning =D.
  • Graphics and sound won’t be so good (coding probarly too :P), but I’ll try my best!
  • I’m not sure about sleep yet, probarly will end up in loads of coffee :).
  • I’m going to watch some live streams while making my game.
  • If I ever get writers-block or programming-block, I’m going to take a walk! Look: (http://blog.bufferapp.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/brain.png).

So yeah! Hoping for the best! Give me some tips if you feel like it, always good to have!

Best of luck to YOU!

First Ludum Dare

Hello Everyone!  This is going to be my first Ludum Dare and I wanted to share this link for anyone who wants to use a light framework that I am building for it: https://github.com/dreamtitan/JavaGameEasyMode

My games on Android used OpenGL ES 2.0 but I wanted to learn some traditional Java and Java Swing and such.  I felt that Ludum Dare presented a great learning opportunity and would be a ton of fun.  I will spend a good part of the next few hours adding a few things to the framework and hopefully get around to creating a ReadMe so it will be easier for others to get started quickly should they use it.

I will be streaming the compo (and possibly the development of the rest of JavaGameEasyMode) on twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/dreamtitan in an hour or two

The Plan

Language: Java (possibly Canvas + Javascript after the 48 hours but not sure)

Framework: JavaGameEasyMode

Art: Photoshop + Flash

Music: FL Studio

Sound: bxfr

Good luck to everyone!

Are you excited?

Ludum Dare 29 is about to begin in less than a third of a day (less than 8 hours). I wonder which theme will ultimately be chosen. Anyhow, have fun, all of you!

Hey everyone!

Im just wondering what time Ludum Dare starts in UK time? Thanks and good luck!

Concentrate all your spiritual energy, and unleash it in form of a videogame! Before that, just rest and your sickness will fade away.

In for the third time.

I’ll be writing my game in Java using the LibGDX framework.

My tools:
IDE: Intellij IDEA
Build: Maven
Graphics: pickle & photoshop
Audio: BFXR & microphone

I just finished reading gameprogrammingpatterns.com and I’m super psyched to apply it.

Good luck! 😀

I’m in!

This will be my second Ludum Dare. Had a lot of fun and learned a lot from the last one, so why not give it another go.

Game Engine: Crafty.js

Graphics: Pyxel Edit

Sounds: BFXR

All of my source will be published here: https://github.com/adammika/ld29

Good luck to everyone!

Edit: Just saw @DarkMeatGames Voxwell was available to LD29 participants. Looks like I’m swapping out Crafty.js with Unity!

I’m in

Hey everyone,

Once again, I can’t miss this special weekend. I’m not too concerned about the tools, it will be either unity for 3d game or my own engine (http://code.google.com/p/quibble) if I come up with 2d game idea.

This was late

This was late, however I am in!

Good luck to you all!

I will most likely be using  java,
Photoshop for the drawing
FL Studio for the sound effects/editing music
etc

once again good luck to you all!

Dream Show Adventures is in!

Hi Ludum Darers! My name is Steve and I’m a programmer for Dream Show Adventures, a small development studio currently working on Pipe Works, a mobile puzzle game for Android and iOS coming later this year. We’re taking a break from “the grind” to participate in Ludum Dare 29!

Who are we? Well, for programming it’s just little old Steve (aka STVR). For art we’ve got the inimitable Andrew (aka Ninspriterx) and Sean (aka Star). Last but not least, on music we’ve got the awesome William (aka Spriter Gors).

Our code will be HTML5 and JavaScript, hosted here, and we’re using the awesome Phaser library. We started with this Phaser template, and implemented automatic pushing to github pages via Travis as in this tutorial. In theory, this will save us a lot of publishing work over the weekend, and we can focus on the code!

Alright, that’s it for now! Looking forward to Ludum Dare!

Count me in!

This is my second Ludum Dare, which I just can’t miss even though I’m in the middle of a personal project I really should be working on.

I am quite a bit more experienced with this toolset than I was last time, so hopefully I manage to get more stuff done this time!

These are the tools I’ll be using:

OS: Windows 8 x64

Engine: Unity

IDE: Visual Studio 2013 (using C#)

Graphics: Aseprite, GIMP

Organization: Trello

IRC Client: Quassel

I’ll be posting progress both here and on my Tumblr devblog, which is at http://omegavesko.tumblr.com/.

In! (Hopefully)

I’m going to do my first Ludum Dare!

I’m relatively new to game development, so I’m treating this like a game dev boot camp. If nothing else, I’ll have a bunch of mistakes to learn from.

As I have a toddler and a new baby in the house, my free time is extremely limited, so I may end up doing this for the jam instead, but I’m going to give it a go.

Tools (Subject to change):

  • Engine: Either Unity or LÖVE, depending on the theme. I’d prefer to use Unity as that’s what I’m currently learning.
  • Graphics: Blender for 3D, The GIMP and/or Inkscape for 2D.
  • Audio:
    • Effects: bfxr and Audacity.
    • Music: Probably LMMS if I have time.

I’ll also make a tumblr or something to chart my progress. Along with the usual vines, tweets, etc.

Hurrah!

Win at the things!

I’m in! 9th time in a row!

Tools
Gamemaker studio
GraphicsGale
SFXR
Audacity

I also might be using an autotiling script that I wrote during the last miniLD I entered. Those scripts, along with an example on how to use them, can be downloaded here:
http://www.jajaben.com/LDExample.zip

(I’m not claiming these are well-written/efficient. I’m not a programmer. I’m just saying I might use them, and that’s why I’m sharing them)

If you use this tileset as a base, import it into gamemaker as a sprite (create from strip), then delete the 6 black squares, it should work then.

Possibly Joining #29

There’s not really much to say here. I’m considering joining the LD. Some of my best games have come from 8-hour non-stop programming, which is what I’d need to do for this jam. Given the time constraint of my job, I’m not hoping for much, but it might be fun to see what happens and to stream my work in my livestream (livestream.com/stnecyl) and see how many show up.

In!

Fulmen Studio is in for the third time ! We will still be using python and pyglet (hopefully this time we’ll make a windows version of our game) and jamming from Lille.

Our team did not change and is composed of:

  • pymiro, graphist and art designer
  • baddakka, level and game designer
  • fargen, developper and taking care of the communication of the game (not sure it is useful)
  • rokary, our composer but we are not sure he will be here
  • myself, zn01wr, lead developper

Good luck!

I’m in!

LDshineImIn

Adventure Islands joins for the 7th time now, whoa! My two previous times with Duke Dashington and Shine went very well, hope I can keep this up!

My tools of trade:

  • Stencyl as the game engine
  • Photoshop for graphics
  • BFXR.net for sounds
  • CgMusic for random music generation
  • Audacity for music editing

My previous LD games:

Shine
Duke Dashington
Persist
Mad Princess
Tiny Evolution Adventure
Tiny Island Adventure

I hope I can do it

I’ve many things to do this weekend so I hope I get some time to participate in my first Ludum Dare. I’ll share my tools:

Text Editor:

  • Notepad++ (GPL)

Engine:

  • LÖVE (Zlib)
  • LÖVE-android (Zlib)
  • 7-Zip (LGPL + unRAR)
  • Resource Hacker (Freeware)

Images:

  • Inkscape (GPL)
  • GIMP (GPL)

Sound:

  • Sfxr (MIT)
  • Famitracker (GPL)
  • Audacity (GPL)

Web stuff:

  • FileZilla (GPL)
  • Git
  • Bitbucket

Libraries:

  • Lume/Lurker (Rxi)
  • Middleclass (Kikito)
  • Stateful (Kikito)
  • Love Loader (Kikito)
  • FizzX (Itraykov)
  • turn (Mine)
  • utils (Mine)

And this were my votes… nothing special I liked all the themes
Votes

Last-minute “maybe”

I’ve decided that if I can come up with an idea with the theme, I will be trying my best to make something!

Right now I’m working on getting basic stuff working with JS/HTML5 canvas, since this seems like the easiest way for people to play my game, and I have a bunch of JavaScript/other language experience so there’s not a whole lot to learn, just getting input, drawing and playing sounds which I will hopefully be able to turn into a warmup game.

I’ll be using Sublime Text 3 for my code writing, Adobe Photoshop CC for my terrible art and sfxr/bfxr & Musagi for my sounds. I’ll also be listening to Monstercat podcasts for the majority of the time (which might lead to my music being inspired by their music!).

If I do end up participating, I’ll be using Chronolapse to make a timelapse of it.  Chronolapse doesn’t like my monitor setup and doesn’t let me choose which monitor to capture. :(

Good luck!

If you need helping making Canvas work or if you want to make sounds play, etc. Go to the w3cschools website; they have a lot of concise tutorials for working with Javascript and HTML5
