I’m in!
And I want to give Unity a try. Good luck folks!
And I want to give Unity a try. Good luck folks!
Hello fellow jammers, greetings from Italy! I have two Ludum Dare jams on my shoulders, and this time I’m testing my luck with the competition! I look forward to try it out, and I’ve decided to not use any previous code so to push myself to come up with a simple and elegant game design that can be completed in the 48 hours.
I’ll be also streaming and timelapsing, tune in to http://it.twitch.tv/catman87 !!!
Here is what I’ll be using:
Development
– Unity 3D
– The internet (for scripting references when I forget how to do basic stuff, and that happens often)
Graphics
– GIMP
– Blender 3D
Sound & Music
– Audacity
– BFXR
– LMMS
Design
– Notepad++
– Pen & Paper (sorry, these won’t be streamed!)
Well then, see you tomorrow and have a good day!
After throwing a hissy fit over the theme last time I’ve decided, on retrospect, that the issue wasn’t with the theme, but with my incredibly narrow and literal-minded interpretation of the theme.
So I’m back in and I’m going to figure out something for this theme regardless of how much I’m inevitably going to hate it.
Stuff:
Here’s hoping this time around goes better than last!
This is just a quick question: how do I set my profile image? I don’t see the option in the Profile center… I even tried uploading it as media, but I can’t seem to figure out this simple task :P.
we are in!
This is my first time organizing a real world gathering and also the first time to participate. I was watching ludum dare for quite some years now and finally come around to stop watching and DO something!
So this is me introducing myself and our little gathering in Hamburg Germany. I will keep you updated and am looking forward to be an active part of the 29th ludum dare!

As you can see we have plenty of space, a nice kitchen area to get some cooking going, themed meeting rooms to brainstorm and a sunny roof terrace with a big grill on it (which will be definitely used today !)
As european we have a lot of time before the theme is announced (in fact we will have to wait until 3 in the morning) but i am sure we will use it preparing for the compo (and maybe grilling ;- )
i will be using plain JavaScript for my game as this is what i am most comfortable with and usually the most comfortable thing wins when it comes to deliver in time! This is sure my first LD48 but not my first game jam so i am looking forward to share my game with you and hope all the local participants will do the same (- :
if you are in hamburg germany and just want to say hello i will be happy to eat a bratwurst with you (- :
gl hf!
Michael
My story of participation in ludum dare is a sad, long depressing story of a quitter. I first heard about Ludum Dare from watching Notches videos of him competing. I believe that was 2010?
I didn’t work up the courage to compete however until 2011, where I started on my first competition. Literally less than two hours in, I quit. I just couldn’t handle the theme and the idea of the workload.
I didn’t compete again for an entire year. This time though, I completed the game, eh, more or less. It wasn’t really a finished product, and certainly not the one I love to show people as my only publicly available finished game, but I still finished it!(and even made a time lapse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz909sax4O0)
I again, didn’t compete once more for an entire year. That was the same old song and dance from my first competition. Starts on it, comes up with an idea, two hours later, boom I’m out.
This year, I really, really hope to change that. I’m going to do everything I can to push myself to stay in the competition, no matter the self struggles.
Guys.
I’m in.
Ludum Dare, it’s been a while. I last entered the compo for LD21 (Escape) back in August 2011. I enjoyed it (I think) and remember being pleasantly surprised at the comments I received and where I placed. However, since then I’ve been AWOL with, no doubt, various things conspiring against me. But now the time for excuses is over and the time for another entry is upon me!
This time though I’m going to be entering the Jam with my esteemed colleague Fazz who’ll be handling code while I draw stuff. We’ve been talking about making a game together for years but have never actually pushed anything out of our collective womb, so now this is our chance. I believe the plan is for my brother to compose some music for us too.
Paint.NET is my weapon of choice.
Good luck all and stay frosty.
Oh boy! Ludum Dare is almost here! What will I do? I should do some planning…
The compo starts at 2:00 a.m. (in Spain). That’s too late… or soon… don’t know… Let’s do things easy.
I’ll use Object Pascal and Allegro (Allegro.pas actually), of course. To avoid the problems I had in the 2nd PGD Challenge (no one of the judges was able to play the game) I’ll use Allegro 4 instead of 5, even that first release is much more stable that the SVN one I used for Momen 3D. Problem evaded.
Artistically, I think I’ll do Old School, you know, pixelart and beep-boop sound efects. May be I’ll add some 3D (No OpenGL available, but Allegro’s 3D stuff is great actually) but not a lot. A simulated Mode 7 at most, and only if it’s really necessary.
I think this is a good plan, isn’t it?

It’s an editor for point-click adventures.
I’m in for the third time, and this time I have 48 real hours to make it.
My tools :
Graphics : Gimp
Audio : Sfxr
Language : ActionScript 3 with a library (flashpunk)
And maybe Tiled map editor… So good luck all !
After missing Ludum Dare 28 due to being on holiday in Japan, breaking my combo of 5 consecutive compos, I am ready to take the challenge once more.
This is my 7th time entering (It doesn’t feel like it’s been that many times) and I am hoping to make something that doesn’t disappoint me quite as much as my last entry.
Tools:
-Game Maker Studio Professional
-Paint.net
-SFXR
-Audacity
-Bosca Ceiol (if I have the time to attempt music)
Finished three times before. Was pretty hectic last two years so didn’t manage it, but I’m starting a new job on Monday so this is the perfect time for it.
I’ll decide on the day but I’ll either go with UE4 or HTML5. Both are systems I’m trying to learn. In a pinch I’ll go back to Unity if I decide I need the familiarity.
If I can think of one, I’m going to try to design a card game to fit the theme. I’ve been wanting to digitize one that I designed a while ago so this would be good practice.
This is the first time I will be participating in Ludum Dare and I am excited to get started.
The tools and resources I will be using are declared below
I am hoping to see and try some great games by the end of this competition. Good luck to everyone!
Heyo!
I’ll be using Unity, Photoshop and possibly SFXR and Blender .
Hey! I’m in for the third time and very excited! Will be using XNA, sfxr, photoshop, sunvox, audacity, and a little online highscore api I wrote a while back.
While waiting frustrated I made a warmup entry in the past hour and a half. Try it out and try to beat the highscore! Mechanics are a bit unpolished so you might get frustrated, but thats no excuse to not beat the highscore!
I’m predeclaring some base engine code that I’m planning to use for my LD game, if I choose to compete. I’m mostly entering to force myself to work on my engine, which is mostly for fun (obviously Unity or such would be a better choice if I were doing this super seriously).

Any other dependencies are already on github or will be shortly. Since I’m essentially doing engine work as the purpose of the game, this code may drastically change before submission and of course the updated engine will be posted.

Challenger – Coding Computer

Endeavour – graphics computer
My work stations. Will do my coding in Sublime Text on “Challenger” which is running Elementary OS Luna, a Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux distro with an attractive UI. Will use Endeavour if I need to use Photoshop or paint with my tablet.
I’m very fond of my Unicomp keyboard. I might actually get another mechanical keyboard; an original “Model M”, in the mail today if I’m lucky.
Hey!
This will be my first LD48, more specifically in the JAM segment together with a friend. I haven’t quite decided if we should go with C# for the project or C++ together with a few external libraries. However, in the event of us using C++ here’s what libraries we are considering using:
* SDL
* OpenGL
* OpenFrameworks
* MiniLib
That last one is a project that I created and that I am still maintaining. It is basically a more slimmed down version of STL, including only the stuff I personally consider essential. However, it also contains a few other goodies such as a linear algebra library and a small barebones library for game/graphics development. It’s public for anyone to download and use. A word of warning though; the library may not include the things you consider essential, it may be buggy, and the current design is subject to change (although I will not commit any changes during LD48).
I wish you all luck in the event!
I tried participating in the jam a few times, but there were problems with my team so we weren’t able to finish it. For this edition, I will be trying the compo with the following tools :
Most themes seem to be better as 2D games, so Il’ll probably be making one of those.
