Game engine

Due to the rules in place that require me to give the source of my engine before competing, here it is.

Warmup for Ludum Dare by joining TAG Jam 13!

tag13Logo

Hello Ludum Dare community! Ludum Dare 30, a big number for it, is coming around soon! This month is also a big month for the The Arbitrary Game Jam with it’s one year anniversary, the first TAG being hosted August last year.

I invite all of you to come and join it! The whole idea behind TAG is that the winner of the last jam will host the next event, picking one of the themes that aren’t randomly generated and creating any bonus rules. This helps small and talented indie companies and game developers get traffic to their sites.

This month the TAG Jam is hosted by hilgames. The random themes are ‘Second Rate’, and ‘Cementation’, with the host chosen theme ‘Storm’

Yet another “im in post”

This will be my 4th ld! I think I will try to enter more than one game, a 2d game for the compo and a 3d one for the jam, but im not totally sure yet. if you want to team with me that would be awesome.

ENGINE: Unity3d or Cryengine, or both because 2 games.

AUDIO: audacity and music and jam maker.

GRAPHICS: Gimp

MODELING: Blender or MAYA

Like I said before, if you want to team up with for jam the that would be awesome. This ld  im hoping to bring my game much farther than just the jam.

Good luck!

Man, making 2 games seems like a tough challenge, good luck!

If 2 games ends up being too much you could make a compo and jam version.

Joining in

Well, I guess it’s soon time for yet another Ludum Dare.

I’ll be trying to join in this time, even though it’s in the middle of the new-student period of the university. My job as part of the welcoming committee might drag me away, just like it did two LDs back, when I was out in a tent during the LD weekend.

Hopefully this time I’ll be able to find the time to get something done, so I’ll be trying to at least get the preparations of a game engine done before the theme gets released. Starting from scratch in C++ takes some traction before work gets done on the actual game after all.

I’ll be sticking to my usual toolset for this time too;

C++11, Visual Studio 2013 / GCC 4.7.3 / Clang 3.3, SFML git

Maybe I’ll have the time to work in scripting courtesy of Lua or AngelScript though, should help with development speed after all.

Hope to see many good games and good times, just like every LD before.

Theme Slaughtering

I really don’t like this theme. But it feels wrong to slaughter children. What to do? )c:

LD30 Theme Slaughter

Obligatory I’m in

for my 6th LD!

I’ll be using:

  • Platform: HTML5
  • Language: Dart
  • Libraries: dartemis and whatever is available at pub and could be useful for the theme
  • base code: for setting up my workspace and some utilities for less boilerplate code
  • Graphics: Krita and/or Inkscape, depending on my needs
  • Sound: Audacity and maybe bfxr, but the last few times I just recorded stuff instead
  • a TODO list, because that worked out quite nice the last time around

[X] Obligatory I’m in (2 weeks before the compo)
[X] Have a checklist (2 weeks before the compo)
[X] Come up with an idea (~9 hours after start)
[X] Sketch the idea on a piece of paper (several ideas until I had an inspiring one)
[X] Implement the game
[ ] Create a winning/losing screen (didn’t have any energy left)
[X] Create a menu (a few hours before the deadline)
[X] Have a name (a few hours before the deadline)
[X] Write a description
[X] Post the game
[ ] Advertise the game
[ ] Write a progress report (didn’t have the time)
[ ] Write a Post Mortem
[ ] Play and rate at least 100 games

I like the checklist idea.

Oops!

Sorry, I forgot to state my software.

I will be using Python with Pygame for programming.

Paint and my awesome felt pen for art.

Audacity for sound effects and music.

Probably Py2exe to convert the file.

Maybe IcoFX to make an icon for the game.

Another rather “Clique” I’m in…

Hi guys, I kinda missed the last Ludum Dare, Unfortunately ;(. But this time I will remember.

Tools:

IDE: Game Maker(I am learning Java, although, not proficient enough to make a game “Yet”)

Text Editor: Game Maker One(A bit dull, But it will do)

Graphics: Paint.net(Very trusty :P)

Sound: BFXR

And I am also going to be using “KayZ”‘s list of things to do xD

Thanks KayZ for the list 😛

Good Luck to all, I wish you the best of luck.

-James

I’m in (hopefully)

If everything goes right I’ll be doing my first LD ever

What I will be using:

Engine: Unity3D

Modeling: Blender

Audacity & nosoapradio.us  for audio

Language: probably C#

This is my first one so I’ll be happy if I even get to submit something game like

I wish everybody good luck !!!

Free Assets for Ludum Dare 30 (Jam Only!)

Lets try something new!

Share any freely available assets you make available in the comments. Art, Sound, Music, etc. Remember that the Compo is a solo competition, so assets found here are ONLY FOR THE JAM!

We’re in once again!

Hi there! This is our third Ludum Dare, and we’re feeling confident after our successful game last time, Turtle Simulator. We have made a framework to work off of, which you can fork here if you wish. Our tools of the trade this time are:

  • LÖVE 0.9.1 [engine]
  • Tiled [map editor]
  • GIMP [image editor]
  • Audacity / Psycle / sfxr [sound]
  • Brackets [text editor]
  • Bitbucket / git [code/issue management]

Let’s Go!

My days are slowly getting busier as sports and school approaches, along with video making which I have high demand for, but I should be able to make this Ludum Dare.  I will (should) be livestreaming the development of this Ludum Dare, as well!

  • Language: Java
  • Editor/IDE: Eclipse
  • Libraries: Will be made from scratch, or may use LibGDX if my idea applies to a mobile game!
  • Art: Paint.net
  • Sound: SFXR
  • Music: Like I’ll get to music 😉
  • Social: Livestream: Twitch.tv/codenmore  Twitter: twitter.com/codenmore

I’m hoping for a theme with a lot of potential!  Hope to see some of you drop by the livestream!

Im in

Im in, I think.

In for the second time

Hi there, I’m in again for the ludum dare 30! No much to say this time. You can see my previous game here: Greys

I’m going to use:

Language: Java

Library: Libgdx

IDE: Eclipse

Base Code: Probably I will use the Tile based- collision of my first game ever, that you can see here! Also you have the right to use any other code in my public repo.

Graphics: PyxelEdit and Inkscape

Sounds and Music: http://abundant-music.com/ , SFRX, Audacity.

First Game Ever, I Hope

Hello all! This is my first Ludum Dare, and the first time I’ve ever tried to make a video game. It was always a childhood dream to make games, so I figured I should give it a go. I’m giving myself the next two weeks to train before the main event. If I can make something that runs, takes input, and creates a result, then I’m doing alright.

I plan to use the following:

I’m having lots of fun learning, and reading about the tools everyone else is using has been a huge help deciding how to proceed. I’ll be blogging about my training daily at my own site.

From your blog: “Unity 3D should be as close to a drag-and-drop game making experience as I’m going to get, and will make rapid prototyping easier.”

Eh…no. I would strongly recommend NOT using GXSCC. It doesn’t really capture the sound of the system it imitates that awfully well, and even if it did, most people simply think of the NES when they think 8-bit. If you like the sound (which I personally don’t mind that much, but it’s still really off if you know what I mean), then go for it, but if you want something more authentic sounding, you should probably go for Famitracker (or if you want to sound REALLY old, Beepola works good for 1-bit music).

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare too!

it’s time to settle a controversy

how is Ludum Dare pronounced? I’ve heard tons of people pronounce this in slightly different ways and I want to get an idea of what the majority is. I’ve set up a straw poll here:
http://strawpoll.me/2306356
Please check in with your opinion so we can sort this mess out!

the second word is dare, never understood the extra letters or misplaced intensity of such a simple word
beforan

the reason for the misunderstanding is, written down at least, then name is a pun:
10. Aug 2014 · 18:56 UTC
Controversy status: Not settled.

Reason: I still pronounce it “Loo-dum dah-ray” even though that wasn’t the winner.

“No Sur-ren-der”

I’m in

. . because:

best reason to tidy

Tools:
Programming: Action Script 3 with Flashdevelop
Graphics: probably Flash or hand drawn if there aren’t many graphics.
Sound/Music: Reaper, VSTHost, Guitar with Zoom G3X, midi Drums, myC64 organ, my voice or anything else that has a cool sound.

Or if I feel brave enough (and have a clear and simple enough idea):
I’d like to make a C64 game (but then I will have not so many possiblities for making music)

I’m in for the (n+1)th time

I’ve got some ideas for games that I’ve been wanting to make for a while, so with a little luck the themes will line up with that. Failing that though I’ll just do what I always do: panic.

Tech:

  • ActionScript/Flixel (for the scripts)
  • GIMP (for the “art”)
  • Ableton Live (for the musak)
  • Open Broadcasting Software (so strangers can watch me accidentally type “pubic” a thousand times)
  • DAME (for the maps)
  • A Piece of Paper (for ideas)
  • A Tie (for professionalism)

Good luck equally to all the fresh-faced newbies and the grizzled veterans, let’s make it a good one.

I’m In

I’m in again. Will do my best to complete it this time around.

  • Language: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Framework: Phaser, or from scratch, depending on the theme
  • Graphics: Code generated and Photoshop
  • Sound Effects: Bfxr
  • Music: Fruity Loops

Missing Links

I noticed that LD29 is missing from the Recent Events box, and the only way to access the results is through Google or other events (by changing the URL).

Also, I can’t find the post for the LD28 keynote which should be here- http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/tag/keynote/
