LD30 August 22–25, 2014

I’m in!

Hi,

This is my first Ludum Dare!

Tools:

Engine: LÖVE 0.9.1 (love2d). Obvious choice, I’ve used it for maybe 2 years now.

Graphics: Graphics Gale, Gimp, Photoshop

Coding: Notepad++

Audio: Audacity

Libraries: None. I’ll code all I need ;)

The plan is to actually have something done :) The problem with my own projects has always been too large scope. LD will (hopefully) teach me to think small and simple.

I hope you’re not so Exit-ed that you don’t get to Enter, but welcome to LD :) enjoy

I’m in

This is my first LD. Following are my tools:

  • cocos2d-x (Java script)
  • Cocos Studio
  • WebStorm 8.0
  • gimp, inkscape
  • Audacity, sfxr

Ludum Dare 30, let’s do it!

Hello everyone,

I’m in for Ludum Dare 30!  I’ve got the weekend free and I’m super pumped!  My technologies of choice will be as follows:

  • Html 5 Canvas / Javascript using the awesome Phaser framework as always.
  • The trusted Gimp for art.  I tried Pickle editor last time, and though it got the job done, I wasn’t impressed with its features.
  • I’m going to try Spriter for animation.  It looks like it will help me create some awesome animations, far greater than I could draw by hand at least.
  • Might try Pitzik4’s GoTile for tileset generation
  • Going to try to make my own music this time around using Rxi’s Blipseq, but if that doesn’t work out I’ll use the incredibly Free Abundant-Music for random music generation.
  • The equally incredibly free BFXR for random game sound generation
  • Sublime Text 2 for code editing.  Perfect lightweight code editor.
  • GitHub for source control management
  • My own website to host the finished product
  • Chronolapse for time lapse capture.  I really liked the finished time lapse that came from using this program last time, so I’ll definitely be using it again.

Incredible music generator I found

Last ludum dare, I found something quite terrific which I think is worth a mention

http://www.fakemusicgenerator.com/

If you have ever used Autotracker-C, you should know that any song generated by that script sounds quite bland and you can almost always tell when it was used for the music.

This website however is incredible and generates very good sounding music.

I found that it didn’t quite fit the pixel art look of my game so what I did is use a bit crusher to make it sound more retro.

The result wasn’t very clean but it sure made the game more interesting

If you know your way around a music tracker but you’re not very good at composing, you can always just reproduce the generated song and it would sound pristine as fuck and shouldn’t take too much time out of your 48 hours!

Here are the two songs I used and bit crushed in Ludum Dare 48

Should LD also do a slow jam?

OK LD is great for people who can spend most of their weekend working intensely on a game but what about people who have time constraints.

So could LD do a slower version of the Jam/Challenge aimed at people who can work on a game in their lunch break or an hour after work?

Slow jam entrants could have 48 hours but spread over a month.

I think it would be an interesting experiment to see if people working less hours over a longer time period can produce better games than people working in a crunch time style 48 hours.

What do you think, would you enter a LD Slow Jam?

I don’t think you need a game jam for that. Just challenge yourself to do it, that’s all you’d need.

I think that the crazy scrambling for speed and for some reason always getting 50% of the game done in the last 4 hours is a significant part of the fun.

That’s just me anyway.

You should start one. The results might be interesting to compare, as you have said.

I personally like Ludum Dare because if it were longer, I would just give up or over-scope. That’s why my two latest games are in jams… On the other hand, have you heard of “One game a Month”?
15. Aug 2014 · 08:29 UTC
The miniLDs are a lot more relaxed with their time constraints and happen once a month (except where the ‘real’ LDs happen), might be what you’re looking for? Or just go look on compohub.net for something that lines up, there’s usually at least one million jams happening at any given moment.

An other “I’m in” post ;)

I’m in for my 4th Ludum dare. On my side, I will create my game with this tools.

Language: GML
Software: GameMaker studio
Graphics tools: TileStudio
SFX:  LabChirp
Music: FL studio

My goal is to finish the competition with a game. You will be able to follow my progression on my website or here.

Kickstarter feedback please!

I’m in!

Hi! I’m looking forward to participate in Ludum Dare 30 compo. This will be my first time :)

Tools:
Engine
– Unity. I’m using it at work and for personal projects.
Graphics – Photoshop.
Sound – I’ll give sfxr a try.
Coding – C#, but mostly I plan to use uScript for visual development.
Libraries – uScript Personal Learning Edition and NGUI Free Edition.
Other stuff: Tortoise SVN for version control, pen and paper for design.

I like to make text-based highly interactive game prototypes with multiple actions, choises and consequences and I hope to improve my motivation skills due compo :-)

Just a reminder: You can’t use any of the graphical assets that come with NGUI if you want to participate in the compo.

To improve one’s motivation skills is a worthy goal. Best of luck!

In the Ludum Dare!

Yo!

I’m in this Ludum Dare for sure! I’ve finished two Ludum Dares, and didn’t finish one (solely because of the time I had).

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Graphics: Paint.NET

Sound Effects: FL Studio or SFXR

Music: FL Studio

Hopefully this Ludum Dare will be fun, as it always is!

Game *intent(void);

I’m trying to shift my yearly entry from spring to fall. I only had 24 hours to throw at it in April so I’m hoping I’ll be more available this time around.

I haven’t decided on a complete toolset yet, but you can bet there will be some gimp, sfxr, possibly blender, and good old gnu nano.
Other possibilities include love2d, phaser, three.js, and sdl2.

If I’m feeling really ambitious, I will deploy an audio file of me farting in binary. Assembling the executable for your platform will be an exercise for the user.

I’m in!

The last Ludum Dare I participated was one all the way back in 2012, where the theme was Evolution.

As to how well I did? I don’t even remember what my game was about.

But, as it goes, that’s all in the past now.

For this competition, I will be compensating for the loss of my coding skills throughout the years by using Ren’Py to develop a short visual novel. Cause that doesn’t really require such 1337 coding skills.

Cheers, everyone. Good luck!

Good luck!

Costum Html

finally done rewriting unity’s web build.

i am ready  for Ld 30!

Traditional “I’m in” ?

Well, since there’s only a week left before the new LD, I just post to say that I’m in too.

It’ll be my second LD, my first one was kind of overrated, so this time I’ll try to make a game that I would enjoy to play. I’ll focus on the fun :3

I’m going to use again Lua with the LÖVE game engine, making graphics with Gimp and generated cool music with abundantmusic, because it was good.

See you next week !

In for my fifth time!

fifth-time-01

Can’t believe I’ve entered five times now… How time flies!

As usual, I’ll be using the following:

  • Game Maker Studio Pro: Game Maker has served me well over the years I’ve been using it. I’ve experimented with so many things using it, and it’s helped me learn so much about programming, before I learnt C and C# in high school
  • FL Studio 11: Again, FL Studio has also served me well, and I’ve managed to gather over 1000 subscribers on YouTube making chiptune music with it. I’ve released 3 albums and have been featured on episode 3 of Satchbag’s “Mixtape Monday“!
  • OBS: Even though almost 0 people watch my livestream, I still do it. I don’t always use a mic (I’ve started to recently), but I’m playing some of my favourite music (even though it’s going to get flagged by Twitch eventually…). Follow me at http://twitch.tv/TomboFry to watch me make some awesome stuff.
  • Pyxel Edit: While I’m really not big on art, I still try, and I use Pyxel Edit and GM’s sprite editor to help me create graphics.

Hey, if you’re willing to work together (check out my previous games!) on the art, I may consider entering the jam for the first time. I can program and make music but I can’t art/graphics for the life of me ._. Feel free to contact me on Twitter or elsewhere if you’d like to work together! Thanks!

I’m.in = true;

I’m in for the second time and I’m very excited to have full weekend to make another game. Unless something bad happens like it did last time (Short story of my LD29: I got out of bed at 3:50 (3:50am) and I was able to make a game until, about 14:00 (2:00pm) then I had to go).

Good luck and have fun!

Warmup Weekend!

I just started streaming warmup weekend  live on twitch @ twitch.tv/roodymonster
