Wish you guys luck! Hope you do well!

(I’m sorry if you think GMS isn’t real coding, I’m new to coding and I need any help I can get!)

Don’t worry what you use to make games. It’s all about creating stories, making your characters come to life, and having fun. Code in binary, or use a complete drag and drop program, it doesn’t matter, as long as what you use it what you’re comfortable with and it allows you to express yourself the best way possible.

I’ve never read *any* anti-GameMaker sentiment on this page, so don’t worry. Welcome to the community and best of luck!

Notepad++? highive bro 😀

Entering. I will even take a 3 leaf clover now to help.

So I’m in for my first try. Wish me luck… I have a few… um… yeah.

My glasses are out of date, I look over the top of them instead of through them a lot now. My head hurts. A whole weekend?

I’m an Australian so it’s 11am Saturday to 11am Monday times for me. Normally I would see that as an advantage, but my mother-in-law just HAD to have her 60th birthday party Saturday night :-(

Enough whining…

So, I will be using Unity, more as an exercise of learning (already doing practice projects and tutorials).

Thinking along the lines of the artistically deficient, I will probably go bad pixel art (good artists do it awesome), but that could change rapidly at announcement, so still toying with tools for that.

Sound, I have no ideas. I have a base guitar I haven’t even tuned in 5 years, that’s good royalty free music right? If I can pick a tool to make it work.

Hey, just in case it needed clarification, in the Compo, the rule isn’t you can use royalty free stuff, but it’s you have to make everything yourself!

First Ludum Dare

For the first time ever, I will be participating in the Ludum Dare competition. 30th seems like a perfect opportunity too, don’t you all think? 😀

I’ve been conducting some experiments with 2D top-down view games recently, and will probably be sticking with that perspective unless the theme gives me a wildly different idea.

I’ll be using :
Engine : HaxeFlixel
Graphics : Photoshop
Music : FL Studio
Sounds : bfxr.

I’m also thinking of doing screen captures for a possible timelapse video afterwards. We’ll see how it goes!

Good luck y’all!

My game XParkour is now FREE!!!

Hello guys, if you didnt know I made a cool game called XParkour, and I sold it, but I realised it would be much better to give it out for free, so I did!

Enjoy the free game (download on this link):

Please comment, I would really like that! 😀

I would suggest not using blv.me if you want more downloads :3

blv.me is a scam. Aint nobody got time fo dat!

If you want to earn money with your game, make one.

Not a small one, nor Minecraft 2, but a game where you put a lot effort in it. A game people like. A game you like.

For example XParcour *could* sell if you put just a whole more bunch of levels in it and polish it and make it pretty & more entertaining, with some cool stuff you like.

People will buy. Guaranteed.

Hopefully I will see a game of you some time again! Good luck.

LD 30 – I am in too.

Hello everyone!

It’s great to see many new people about. I’m in for my 6th time. So far I managed to finish only 2 games. Weirdly enough, both those games were completed during the summer LD (which is when I have most time on my hands). So hopefully I will manage to make it this time too.

As usual, my tools will be:

  • IDE: Game Maker: Studio
  • 2D Graphics: Paint, GIMP
  • 3D Graphics: Blender
  • Sound: Audacity, sfxr

In this past year, I have learned a lot in 3d programming and networking. So you can expect some awesome stuff I was unable to do the previous Ludum Dares.

Anyway, good luck to all of you! :)

My first time

So this is the first time I am going to participate in Ludum Dare :) (Kinda excited)

I first heard about Ludum dare 3-4 months ago through Quill18 and I instantly thought this would be an amazing way to learn a lot of new things.

I began to program about a half year ago, so I am not an expert in any way. (But I am not the worst)

I have spent the last 3 months programming a lot of small games, so I could get to learn Javascript/Unity better and I found out about a lot of things about programming/game development.

I did also finally realise that I am not an artist, so my Ludum Dare game is  probably going to be a 2D game, because that is what I feel I am least bad at.

I am going to use Unity to learn more about it and because it’s what i have practised in.

Music? Probably not:) It’s probably going to be a silent game with some small sounds from sfxr.

The reason I think this is that just like with the graphic I am not good at music :( So if I can’t find a site that makes some good sounding music i’m not going to use Music 😀

(Sorry for the bad grammar, i’m a dane) 😀

My first LD also. Are you doing the 48 hour competition or the 72 hour game jam thing?
09. Aug 2014 · 05:29 UTC
Honestly, if music is really not your thing, you might find something like ‘INudge’ or ‘BeepBox’ useful:

#SpeccyJam (the ZX Spectrum Game Jam) is back!

Hi all,

Just to let you know that the second annual #SpeccyJam is this month, and starts on 29th August 2014

Dev’s have 1 week (29th August – 5th September) to create a ZX Spectrum flavoured game.
It can be for any platform (Browser, HTML5, Flash, Mobile, iOS, Android, PC .. anything), and you can use any game dev tools to create it (doesn’t need to be programmed in machine code and load on a cassette tape or anything like that.)

Just as long as it looks / feels / plays like a ZX Spectrum game, then it is fine!

You must use only the ZX Spectrum colours and resolution, and you can use the “attribute clash” rules if you want to make it look more authentic (but not a strict rule).

For more details about rules and registration (by way of forum), check out http://www.speccyjam.com

Thanks for reading, and hope to see you there!
Cheers
Dave

I’m in! (preemptively)

So…yeah. This time I’m actually going to try and make a good game.

TOOLSET (until further notice, at least):

Engine: Love2D

Language: Lua

Editor(s): Vim and maybe Emacs (if I’m feeling lucky)

Streaming?: Fuck yeah! twitch.tv/segfault__

Unity Web Templates

Hey everybody!

So I got bored today and made myself some Unity Webplayer templates that use bootstrap (a little overkill maybe, but it works just fine.)

Anyways since some people may get a bit tired of the standard Webplayer templates or want something to add that little polish go ahead and use on of these guys! I did throw in a little attribution for myself at the bottom with a link to my twitter, but feel free to remove all of that if you want.

Preview

Dark | Light

Here’s the link to download the unity package: https://db.tt/mLPb3MNP

I personally prefer the darker theme, but maybe a light theme will be more appropriate for some games.

Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks,

Mactinite

I haven’t really developed for any competition before, but normally for games I use LWJGL, or a library I made for haxe. I really didn’t like the lack of control given with both haxePunk, and haxeFlixel, but maybe that’s just because I’m a control freak and like to micromanage the “behind the curtains” stuff of my games.
08. Aug 2014 · 15:12 UTC
Unity3D all the way for me. (Previously I also used AS3/Flashpunk, Python/pygame, C#/SFML.NET for prototypes/jams, but man, it’s just so much faster to make something in Unity3D.)

I like unity3d, and how about 2d engine? GameMaker ?

Another reason is i need flash platform to run game widly.

I’m in, for the first regular LD

Well, after experience with the latest miniLD I simply have to participate in this big one.

But now, I am going in with the team of people so I hope that we will do something much better than a Spaceship Arkanoid 😀

Development tools:

Editor: Notepad++/Visual Studio C++ 2010
Sounds: Bfxr
Music: abundant-music or whatever team comes up withGraphics: Adobe Photoshop
Libraries: SDL 1.2 (alongside with extensions), OpenGL, DGM (some basic functions to operate SDL and OpenGL easier and quicker, one day I’ll finish documentation and publish it)

Right now I am working on a simple level editor with collider edit functions. If it will be done in time, I am gonna publish it here for some coders like me with the proper algorithms to use it.

Best luck to everyone in upcoming LD!

I’m in etc etc etc

Hey, I’m in for the 30th Ludum, awe yeah!

As per usual I’ll be using SFML(C++, Visual Studio 2010) with my own codebase to speed things up a bit. I will post the lib later, haven’t tidied it up recently. For graphics I’ll use Graphics Gale, music I’ll use pxTone/Audacity and probably some SFXR.

The compo starts conveniently 2 days after an exam I have in a math course, so I’ll be exhausted and free from all the studying, AWESOME! Bad stuff is I recently came back from China, and I can’t for the life of me get my desktop computer to work.. Maybe it’s fixed before the compo but it doesn’t look like it.. I’ll just have to use my laptop like last time(I managed to make Under Ytan on my laptop, so I guess it isn’t too bad).

Who’s ready to make some mudd’fuggin games!?

I’m in! (For my first time)

Okay, so LD is a relatively new thing to me. And I’m not exactly sure what the point of these posts are, but I don’t really care I’m going to make one. So this is my first LD! Im going to be competing in the 72 hour jam one, and these are the tools I will be using:

Language: Haxe

Editor: Sublime text/Flash Develop

Sound Effects: Sfxr/Cfxr

Music(if any): Garage Band

Graphics: Gimp/Photoshop/Seashore

Like I said previously, this is my first LD. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also all tools listed here are subject to change.

Good luck!

I’m In? (Maybe not)

Yeah, I might do a LD project, but I am afraid that I may not have time. If I do, I’m just warning that it might be really small. So, don’t judge to harshly in the comments if it doesn’t have much polish. If you have a problem with the game, just specify what it is and how you think it should be fixed.

(Either way I will be able to play your awesome games, though.)

Looking at the award section, “don’t judge harshly” coming from you is a bit ironic. I really wish you’d remove that award; it’s rude and it makes you look bad.
08. Aug 2014 · 19:41 UTC
I wish you told me what you didn’t like about me game(s) 😀 anyway hope you can participate :) Good luck! -Mallot1

Alright, we’ve both abused the trophies section enough, so I’ll say this here. Constructive criticism means criticism that suggests a way the person can improve themselves or their work. You essentially just said “Your games are terrible,” and didn’t say what was so bad about them or how he could improve them, which is NOT being constructive, not even evilly constructive. It’s just rude. If you had said “Your art needs work,” or something like that, it would have been constructive.

Okay, let’s stop this. I’m going to get rid of the trophy I gave you, but could you get rid of the one you gave me.

I’m in!

This will be my second Ludum Dare, so I wish myself and all other people luck.

I will use:

Python with PyGame for programming,

sfxr for sound effects,

Ninja as IDE,

Miscrosoft Windows XP Paint for graphic,

cx_freeze for compiling,

some-sites-that-I-don’t-know-for-now for music,

maybe(???) Tiled and tmx (by Richard Jones) for level desing,

Oxford Dictionary for searching for other meanings of theme,

and My Brain for… many things.

I also have one question:

why is on the oldest page on Ludum Dare (http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/page/4132/ for now) comments have date August 2000 and Ludum Dare started 2002, also why oldest comment isn’t by PoV (who created Ludum Dare)?
