3:30 AM, Progress Is Good

Signing off for tonight! I have something that works, and showcases the basic “infinite runner in VR” mechanic that I wanted.

I have no clue

Any ancient technology inspirations?
BTW that’s my first LD and game jam ever

Went with squishing pyramid robbers with some ancient traps. Still thinking about random generating paths for the robbers though.

…And if nothing comes to you after googling and reading Wikipedia, just go outside.

Visit a local bookstore.

Check some glossy magazines at the closest supermarket.

They all contain many titles, pictures, etc. — it will help you a lot.

remember that “ancient” is a relationship, not an absolute. So, we have two points on the theme:

End of first day

Decided to use JS instead of GMS – I guess I took too long of a break from the latter.

Menu’s working, at the least, and I know exactly what to work on now.

Hopefully I won’t oversleep, so I have time to continue working later today.

Hey everybody

We are in!

were using Unity, C#, 3ds max, maybe, and all the brainpower we can muster.  Best of luck everyone!

Yawn

Okay, I’ve got some handy graphics (hehe, got it?). Cya tommorow.

P.S. Ah yes, you can try it here

Sposibo!

Start of ragdoll attempt

Got my placeholder art pieces and added 2D physics to them. Fun running the game and watching them all fall about the place.
Now to try to join them up to make them into a ragdoll

First Steps

First Steps

I had used box 2D a few years back to create a physics driven game, but I hadn’t really worked with physics much in Unity3D.
It was only in the last game that I worked on that I realised it had joints, and how useful those could be.

So my plan is to create some spring joints joining the appendages to the body. Then I’m hoping to run the game and see the person fall in true ragdoll fashion!

We’re in

Yeay, we got started quite late due to the timezone.
We’ve got a game idea: A round based racing game. And we playtested it on paper:

game

We’ve got an artist and a tech stack (phaser.js).

There’s 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark out, and we’re wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

Gameplay and art done, design to come!

Hey guys! Decided to update you on my entry.

Screenshot_1

It’s a game where you control gravity and you must get to the end of the level.

Using unity.

The light in the cube is made from a point light and bloom, and the gravity control itself is easily controllable with Physics.Gravity.

What do you think?

Simple. Clever. Add a few portals and puzzling levels.

When the player hits the portal, teleport the cube to the other connected portal. Might help add some challenge and complexity.

So it’s basically Markiplier?

“Knight Time” Update – Day 1 Wrap Up

So we have a team of 5 working in unity making a retro shooter with an ancient technological twist.

You play as a knight with a futuristic weapon in procedurally generated levels.

Everyone on the team has done great work already, and it’s amazing we have so much so soon!

Call the chiropractor

So my ragdoll progress is going really well, I’ve got (floating – because it’s easier to animate) hands connected spot on. They’re moving exactly as I had hoped!
The head though… Well I might have set it up wrong… I cannot say with confidence that no NPC was harmed in the making of this game.

Screen01_SkullyBIf it’s a bit confusing from the placeholder art, the top circle is the head, the bigger one the body and then at the bottom are drooping hands.

Day ‘1.5’, START!

(Or day ‘0.5’, if you like 0-indexed better)

Good morning, LDers!

I just woke up and got back to working on my entry! Come watch me at https://www.twitch.tv/gfm123! :)

Ramming Speed!

Introducing Ramming Speed!

A top-down RTS game of ancient naval battles.

The Hype is On

Ok, I’ve gone to sleep just after the theme release, and woke up a hour and half ago. Now it’s 7:30 AM here in Brazil and I’ll go to work, but doing already some sketches of the art while I’m there. Unfortunately I’ll only code tomorrow and monday, because of job.

I was hoping to go with an old design of mine, which I call “Villagers of The Stone Age”, a kind of First-Person City Builder. But that would rely too much on a nailed AI to work, and I doubt I would manage to do that on the little time I have.

So I’m going with an arcade-style (8bit graphics plus chiptunes) sci-fi roguelike where the Protagonist traverse the galaxy (each level a planet, ten levels) looking for clues to find the location of the mythic planet Earth, where some half-witted not-exactly-scientists claim that Humanity first evolved. He will have to scavenge the ruins of millenia-old cities and colonies, and will have to fight the resistance of an old grumpy religious fundamentalist Secret Society.

And of course he will find some helping figures, like Isaac on Trantor, Philip on Sirius, and Sid on Alpha Centaury. 😀

Good luck to all of us!!!

A welcoming start

Got a script system in place in the morning. I think the game might as well begin like this.

Not pictured: “epic fail” trumpet sound effect.
