COTTAGE - DEVBLOG NUMBER FOUR (... At least i think :D )

*Thank you guys for helping with light!*

Thanks to that, i finally finished lighting. Also, i redrawed main character!

Another thing which i finished is dialog system! So you can talk now!

Here is some little magical moving picture.

Introducing Lonely

Lonely is a game where you have to find your match. Your character attributes are randomly chosen and you are placed in a small town with other random people. Only one of them is your match (exact same attributes as you but opposite gender). You must find your match in time before you accept your fate and fall to the loneliness. Each time you find your match you start over with a new character and more people populate the town. Make it as long as you can before you fall to the loneliness. lonely02.png lonely03.png

Final tweaks!

I've finally resurrected my game from being broken beyond redemption. Now it is barely functional, and I am working on making it suck less. I vastly underestimated how hard it is to put a game together under so little time. As a first-timer, here is my salute!

Wow... This time we have finished our game

We finally created a working game. Very proud, we pressent you...

Aaarrr... Fight epic battles on our small (and flat) world...

The following text is from the My Game site which could not be published with my account...

TLDR; In the words of an unknown pirate:

Aaarrr

In a small world with little resources a fierce battle for gold, glory and rum has ended thousand years of peace. You are about to enter the deadly battle.

LD38 theme was "A Small World" but we took the chance to publish some unknown alternative facts. According to the latest researches in the US, the world is also FLAT. So we created not only a small world but also a flat world. Inspired by some of our favorite games from the past... ;-) Enjoy our two player game...

Prepare for epic battles ;-) http://www.megagem.net/aaarrrasmall_world/

Everything coming together

Its getting late over here and I'm ready for submittig my game.

Here you can view the final state: ld38_2.gif

I'm in

obligatory late "I'm post", not sure if needed anymore on the new site.

Hooray, I'm all jammed out!

I have finished my game!

... and please forgive me. I don't think I'll be able to look myself in the mirror for a few days.

I've never touched FL Studio before, and it seems it should have stayed that way. In a necessary act of mercy, I added a BGM toggle button to the menu. Stay safe, y'all.

Well, good luck to everyone else finished up their Compos or still going on strong on their Jams. Have fun, and take care! Time for me to sleep.

Final push

Crunch time.   In the meantime – here are some hamster sprites..

The stream is still live on the stream page. Need more coffee..

Day Two Progress

Day two round up. I finally have most of the gameplay mechanics implemented, along with two game modes and some very simple ai bots. There are a couple extra features I’d like to add but I’m not sure if I’ll have time. Though before that I need to work on the main menu and some sound effects.

Didn't Get to Finish, but...

I may not have had enough time and experience to finish, but I had a blast. I will be taking the time now to finish the game! :) I'll definitely do the next one too!

Home stretch. Feeling good!

With just over 3 and a half hours to go I am pretty confident I'll be able to finish in time. All that is left to do is a start screen, level design and dialog writing!

Also.. It needs a name!

What a relief!

Finished finally.

Finished and again i messed up gameplay. That was my first ludum dare and ive learned a lot. It was very fun.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-life

Bowing out of this Game Jam

I'm going to step out of this Game Jam, unfortunately. There's too many things that I need to do to finish the game and to make it more than a glorified "how fast can you click the button", and with work I only have about 5 hours realistically to finish it in.

With that said, I don't think it was a waste of time- I finally got round to using a drawing tablet and OpenCanvas (a lot!), which I bought 6 months ago. I've also learned a number of things that can be done with Unity/C# that I didn't know before. So I'm basically treating this Ludum Dare as a learning experience.

Good luck to everyone!

Fighting with Java

Well, not really, but I'd forgotten how assignment vs copy works in Java so that caused a lot of headaches with entire naval fleets magically dying all at once... :scream:

I've started this way too late (Sunday), but here was my thinking...

A small system of little worlds, where each world creates it's own procedural spacefleets. The ship designs are all procedural, always different... and their abilities too. Their abilities are balanced against others, so a fast ship may have a low hull, or a ship with a low turnspeed may have more firepower.

So far it works, but I don't have time to actually add the player in, nor even switch to the JAM as I'm working tomorrow... so I'll just upload it as a fun sandbox.

ld38.png

Done

My first Ludum Dare somewhat successful. The game looks terrible, but at least it works

Accidental bottle factory

Forgot to reset a timer. Good news; 10.000 bottles and still 60fps!

progress3-bottles.png

Second day...

Spent most of the day trying to make the prototype not look ugly... Now all that's left is add variety to the game so that it's actually fun to play ;

We are done!

It was our first time participating in a Jam, and i have to say, it was quite a blast! Hope you guys enjoy our little platformer as much as we did enjoy making it :)

Here's a print screen for you to enjoy!

It's over for me, time to sleep and feel happy

After having a hard time finding what i wanted to do, how i wanted to do it, some technical issue in the end that was like a sign of "Stop it now before you'll ruin the compo", i've managed to do my prototype like game and liking what i've done.

you can find it here A Small world lost in a big universe

You'll find it in two version, the original one meant to be play at 1920*1080 and another 50% smaller to be playable directly in your browser default size.

Good luck everyone doing the compo for the final touch. And have fun, just fun like i had.

Good night if you happen to be on the same time zone i am.

A Small world lost in a big universe

Day two progress

Day two round up. I finally have most of the gameplay mechanics implemented, along with two game modes and some very simple ai bots. There are a couple extra features I'd like to add but I'm not sure if I'll have time. Though before that I need to work on the main menu and some sound effects.

ProgressDayTwo.gif

Interplanetary Billiards

I didn't have nearly as much time this time around as I would like, but I am getting something togerther. I probably won't make the compo deadline though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxcwSfkgPbk&feature=youtu.be

I don't have a Game :(

So, my game, NO BORDERS, NO NATIONS was supposed to be an indirect politics game. The goal is to make the world a better place, by allowing free migration across the map, but also by both altruistic as well as underhanded tactics.

teaser8.png

So. My second Ludum Dare, and this time I really killed myself with scope issues. Actually, what happened was that I didn't realize just how much work a little GUI layouting can mean, especially if you have no idea what you're doing thanks to what I guess are ... bugs, in Unity. Yeah, I know, sounds really far out. :)

The plan is now to take this husk of a game to the AMAZE! jam at the end of the coming week, and hopefully get some gameplay in.

teaser9.png

You do this by taking actions on "cohorts" of the population; for simplicity's sake you only have access to the three smallest Minorities, and the three largest Majorities. Each action costs an amount of one of your three currencies:

  • Funds, which you can use to better the lives of Majorities and Minorities alike. Generally, nothing you spend money on is a bad idea, but the consequences can be unintended (for instance, Incentivizing Migration can attract undesirable pops that cause unhappiness among your citizens, such as Fascists or Squatters)
  • Approval, which if you run out, you lose the game. It comes from Happy (or better) Populations. Approval can be spent for "unpopular" measures.
  • Influence, which is the financial and martial power of your nation on the stage of the world. Correlates directly with wealth. Influence Actions are a double-edged sword, including positive items like Stabilization, but also drastic measures like Displacement of pops.

teaser7.png

So. Thanks, Ludum Dare, and so long. I'm actually in pain because I sat on an improvised chair for a long time, and I have learned a lot, also about failure.

See you all again next time!

Force of Nature (JamPo)

FON-splashh.jpg

Our game is finally done!

  • Even though we are technically a JAM entry, we still wanted to have the COMPO time limit, so here we are with our game. If you're interested, you can check out ForceOfNature.

Paper Jam - FINISHED

Yass! My hand-drawn platformer is finished. Managed to add spikes and enemies at the last minute. In case you missed my other post, basically I drew this entire thing out completely by hand, then brought it into Phaser and warped it to fit the image of where I was sat working on the game (game-ception!)

finished.gif

Pretty happy with how this turned out. The game is on the simple side, but the aesthetic turned out well. If you'd like to try it, give it a go here: http://games.danhett.com/paperjam/

I'm in (belated)

I'm participating. A bit late due to irl stuff, but I'll be entering the jam at least!

Start of the Second Day. More concept and some progress.

Starting to get a little familiar with the Twine interface. Images were a little odd to get going. Seems like you need an external host, so I'm probably going to be using Imgur for that. Started off with a quick "Hello World" test project and I feel like I have a basic understanding now. I haven't written Javascript since high school, like 15 years ago, so that's probably not happening, and I've also never done anything with CSS. I'm also suspecting my writing is going to suck. But again, the goal here was just to get something going, and if I finish the project in any form then that's just a bonus.

I have been doing some more sketches for characters now. Since the character are all on their boats, it makes a lot of sense that the tower at the city center, that represents the Sun, would be a lighthouse. That also lets the sky be permanently night, with a day night cycle coming from the rotation of the lights in the lighthouse itself. Really need to grab my scanner from downtown instead of taking shots with my phone.

Also have been thinking of a new character that can come by - Hailey, the wanderer. A "hiking" girl based on Halley's Comet.

LDemTLU/em20170423_14h46m.jpg

Final stretch!

We're refining the multiplayer features, but it's quite hard to track down bugs with a language you've never practiced!

GIF.gif

Fighting works, picking up food works, we're now working on the territory control and different archetypes.

chevaliers.PNG

And this is the main building for each team, where you need to bring back food to make soldiers!

village.PNG

Crumble is in publishing phase

I'm making a game where the world crumbles as time goes on - try and push your opponents off and be the last man standing, or try a time-attack style singleplayer mode!

It'll appear on itch.io in a few hours, or hop on the stream where I'll be wrapping things up: https://www.twitch.tv/binaryspark

crumble-lobby.png

crumble-ingame-mp.png

Fully playable version of "1964 World's Fair Engineer"

screenshot3.png

Okay, there's a fully playable version of the game done:

http://barkingdoginteractive.com/1964/

This is not going to be the final revision. I've got a few hours left, during which time, I'll add some more cards, tweak the balance a little, and bug hunt. As I write this, I have about three hours left to get the final tweaks in, but the link above is where the final game will live.

Right now, there are only two playsets: Holland and Japan. In a more fleshed-out version, there would be several playsets for the attraction, but working alone, there's just no way to add a lot of art content and have any hope to balance it all, so I'm going to focus on trying to make the balance a little better and add the currently-missing water pressure driven cards.

Roboland : Published

To avoid the final hour rush, I just published the current progress. More updates and screenshots coming soon.

4.23.7.31.10.png

Added a new planet model, rings, and entity spawn points. Now it's time for AI and polish for our Jam entry!

Will a game be completed?

It seems like something game-like is emerging out of this weekend's particular constraints:

Screen Shot 2017-04-24 at 9.06.45 AM.png

Hopefully, the answer to the above will be yes.

No sound

I'm pretty much done. I don't really have more time to add any audio, so it's going to be a bit boring experience. I still have to do some testing and building. There's a bug in the Unity WebGL build that I can't fix. I might have to axe that as well :(

Here's a random screenshot: gold_1.jpg

FAILED!!

Unfortunately the scope of the is far too large for my skill. My ambition has gotten the better of me once again!!!

I have really enjoyed my experience and will surely participate again see you for ld 39!!

I still believe this idea has potential and will be continuing to develop it further in my own time!! If you like the concept and would like to follow my progression further keep an eye out on my website as I will be posting regular updates from now on!!

Screenshot03.png

Second day done

Second day is over, the game is taking shape. We still need to do some work on the AI to make the simulation/game last longer than a minute before the NPC's kill each other.

Capture.PNG

Second day

Most of the day I spent trying to do some music and it's not good, but I can't do anything better at the moment. Added menu and score, but still haven't any name...

You can try it at Itch.io

Leucos is live!

leucosemfeatured/emimage.PNG

I finally finished and published "Leucos"! It was as always an exhausting but really rewarding experience! And even though this was my first game jam solo, I am pretty happy with the result!

The submitted game can be found here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/leucos

You can check "Leucos" in the link below and let me know what you think!

Planet Creator: Update 3

Haven't shared anything today so thought I would show a quick screenshot of the latest build. Been working on stage 4 of planet creation. Asteroids are crashing into the planet and either creating water, raising the temperature, or creating landmass.

Got to finish up this stage tomorrow, then work on stage 5, creating life.

Good Night Everyone!

I made it!

Game page

Second compo. It was harder than I though it would. Even though I haven't finished full game I was able to publish at least a gameplay idea :dog:

Scale back, quick!

24 hours minus sleep is clearly not enough time for what I have mapped out in front of me here. In these final hours my task is to cut out about 75% of the planned features and jam in some rigged new things so that I have something that can at least be considered a game in the sense that it's interactive and has some measurable objective. I don't think I ever actually explained what I was doing here on my LD page, but I'll try to explain it in full after the time is up. Until then, I think I'll slice out the city-building half completely (despite my lovely turtle artwork for it ;_;) and throw in some collectible items and a score board, so at least you can try to gather as much as possible before you die. It's a crude, simple goal, but it worked for the Atari era, right? It'll have to do for me today as well.

Scrapped the Card Game, Shooter Clone in Coming In Final Hours

Scrapped the Card Game, Shooter Clone in Coming In Final Hours. It was taking way too long and way to many issues, I still like the idea of the card game and might do something with it in my free time but for now, I'm trying to put together the quickest entry ever!

I'm in!

Hello. I am soxfox. This is my first Ludum Dare. Working with @Crafting4U. Using Java, GIMP, and Eclipse. Bye.

Next up: more graphics and levels, before we add more features.

HexCity completed!

A challenging brainfuck puzzle

The goal of HexCity is to achieve the highest score. Simple enough.

hc.PNG

Placing Requirements

Here where the challenge lives : To place a building you need to meet every requirement that the building has.

| Building | Requirement | |--------------|----------------------------------------------| | Worker house | Farm | | Farm | Not next to another farm | | Mine | Worker house | | Wind Turbine | Worker house | | Factory | Worker house, mine and wind turbine | | Market | Worker house, wind turbine and factory | | Bank | Worker house, wind turbine, mine and market | | Rocket | Worker house, wind turbine, factory and bank |

hexcity.png

Score

Each building you place will increase your score by this amount :

| Building | Score Value | |--------------|-------------| | Worker house | -1 | | Farm | -1 | | Mine | 1 | | Wind Turbine | 1 | | Factory | 2 | | Market | 3 | | Bank | 5 | | Rocket | 8 |

Special tiles

| Color | Name | Effect | |-------------|--------|--------------------------------------| | Light green | Grass | None | | Blue | Water | Cannot place a building on this tile | | Beige | Sand | Score is not calculated on this tile | | Dark green | Forest | Score is doubled on this tile |

Make sure you follow me so you get it once the Compo is over

Done and published.

It's been fun working on this game for the last two days, but I'm finally at a point where I'm pretty happy with it.

I lost about 15 hours at the beginning because it took me that long to come up with an idea fro the game, now that i't finished, I'm really pretty happy with the results.

Ok.

html5 sucks.

Out of time... so sandbox it is. :)

It's 11.30 on a work night so I have to accept defeat here.

Player facilities aren't in yet, so basically you watch some little worlds launching proceduraly designed fleets against other little worlds and taking them over.

I'll upload the Gradle sources before compo finishes and the Win/Mac/HTML bundled versions when time allows.

Hope you've all had a good one! :robot:

ld38_2.png

My anti-record

This is by far my worst Ludum Dare (participating for the 7th time). 2 days without any inspiration and I have not even started yet. But I won't give up so easily. There are still 26 hours to submit a Jam entry, starting now!

FUEL is Done!

It's 11.30pm and I'm up at 6am, so that's enough tweaking for one GameJam. Hope it's not complete shit! Thanks to everyone who swung by on Twitch to say Hi!
