I'm in!

Idea is still a bit unclear, but I'm getting there!

I'm in!

This is my first LD.

Brainstorming

With "A Small World" as the theme I had a number of options to go with and a number of interpretations that could fit

  • I could go with the puzzle island I had bouncing around inside my head when voting for themes, the island being a world unto itself.
  • I could go with trying to manipulate the gravity inside UE4 to let me have a very small spherical world with different biomes. Don't know how exactly I could make that mechanically a game. Maybe setting up towers to shoot incoming asteroids.
  • I could go with a 4D Hypercube game, because it's self contained and there's no escape it would be a world unto itself. Each of the 8 rooms could be a different biome to make that even more apparent. You're goal is to escape the hypercube.
  • I could go with a "tribute" ((copy)) of the CS map rats. This would however mean I have to deal with multiplayer and modeling SMG, pistol, sniper rifle, shotgun, grenade, smoke, flash, knife and everything else that makes an FPS interesting. This fits well with the small, but not necessarily the "world", at least not as well as everything else. Sure the area would be the world of the game, but it's a loose fit to say the least. Also I would have to work with multiplayer and networking, something I haven't done in UE4 yet. It would be fun though.
  • It could take place in a puddle as a bacteria and you're just trying to survive for as long as possible in this puddle. Seems kind of boring, however. There could be a level of evolution and cell mod's going on and some antagonistic cells but I don't see how I could really make it interesting.
  • There could be a terrarium builder game. You try to construct a small world inside a glass bottle that survives for as long as possible.
  • There could be a game about communication, trying to make communication easier to make the world as a whole "smaller". That's a pretty liberal interpretation of the theme but it's something.

I think the two I like the most are the 4D Hypercube and the FPS. But the Hypercube is more possible and fits the theme better than the FPS, sot that's what I'll be going for.

Idea! (finally)

This being my first game jam, I was too excited to be able to think properly at start, but finally, I have an idea for the game. It will be a Top Down 2D. We are in a small island (our small world) and we defend it from attackers. Working on it. Good Luck everyone and have fun (more importantly)!

Pretty late, but whatever

Yeah this "I'm in" post is pretty late, my internet was acting up and I couldn't get on, but better late than never to test out the new posting system!

So yeah, I have an idea and I started a little bit on it. Here's what I will use:

-I will code in C# with Visual Studio. -I will use the XNA Game Library and because it's obsolete and hard to get the game itself without a lengthy installer I will attempt to port it to Monogame. -Paint.NET for drawing. -SFXR and maybe Audacity for sound effects.

This is my second Ludum Dare, and I don't know if this post will work so let's see...

Im in

I will be using;:

Game Engine - Unity

3d Modelling - Blender

Music - Bosca Ceoil

Art - Paint.net

My Vague Idea

The plan is for something like a social party game, played online via the browser. The "small world" in my idea is Earth. Players are aliens trying to conquer Earth. The mechanics are like this: * Players can pick a secret role before the game, giving them particular powers or alternate victory conditions * Aliens take turns to move, one planet at a time * Alternatively your alien UFO could gather resources at that planet * Some planets are trading posts, allowing you to buy stuff there * Some planets are surrounded by space debris, which aliens may need weapons to clear * Aliens can also attempt to use weapons on other aliens, or buy shields - if an alien "dies", they lose everything and respawn at their home planet * To win, players must move to Earth with a super weapon * If Earth gets suspicious about aliens trying to conquer them, Earth will build a defence shield within a few turns, at which point everyone loses - so aliens will want to avoid moving past Earth early

I'm in

I'm in! I haven't done one of these in a while actually.

I'm programming in C with Visual Studio using my own libraries which can be found here: https://github.com/m4tthartley/Libs

It's late here in the UK so I'm going to sleep now, but I'm pretty happy with my idea and looking forward to exploring it tomorrow.

Good luck everyone!

Small World!

I forgot what it feels like to get that burst of pride when something you try actually works! I've got a concept going, and I'm trying to keep it simple as possible. I may be doing what a hundred others are doing, but it will still be new for me so that's all that matters. I'm also hoping that if I can get something rudimentary done quickly, I'll have a good amount of time for polishing. So far I have a spinning blue planet and a red guy that does nothing. Exciting!

I'm using game maker pro right now. I would've used unity, but I've only used it about two times previously, and I didn't have much time to prepare before I decided I'd hop into this. Plus, this system isn't going to be crazy complicated. So GM it is!

Besides that, I'm using photoshop and audacity + my Casio keyboard, for anyone curious.

Wish me luck!

Fun... Wow!

This is my first LD. I'm very excited. Good luck everyone!

I'm in!

RPG Maker somethingorother incoming. I need to remember that the theme is "A Small World" and not something about parallel universes.

Unless...the parallel universes ARE the small world...

HRRRRMMM.

We're In

We will be beginning a game! Amazing

I'm In!

Won't be able to do this Ludum Dare with my usual people, so I will hopefully be participating in the Compo instead of the Jam this time around.

Tools:

-Unity 5.6

-Paint.NET

-Blender

-Audacity

Good luck everyone!

Powerpoint? Powepoint!

Ok, I'm going to sleep, but I'm working on an idea alredy. The development environment of choice is Powerpoint, because everything else is too complex.

Lottie and Wysp

Thought up a general idea I suppose, with elevator pitch. Lottie and Wysp lived together on their tiny home. But danger is coming as their home is set on a collision course with another larger planet. Now they must find a way to escape intact or be burnt up on entry. Plotting begins wish me luck.

I think I'm in

I'm still figuring this all out. Me and a bro are doing the jam, and we've got a pretty solid idea. Still don't know a thing about this all, this is out first jam. Ought to be a good experience for us, in any case.

I'm in hopefully!

Already at the point of the jam where I don't know if what I'm making is useful. Off to a great start! Tools: Unity 5.6, Blender, maybe Inkscape, sfxr, sunvox, audacity and maybe even gimp!

First game, here we go!------------>(Bum) Here we goooooo!

My first time!

Gonna try to make something for my very first time. I'm afraid I will end up following the theme rather loosely. Please go easy on me it will be my first finished game if I'll make it!
