My First Ludum Dare

This will be the first time that I will be in a Ludum Dare. This might be not the best time because i am starting 2 hours late and this compo will span both my birthday and a wedding that I will be at but this will not stop me.

I could skip this time for OK reasons but I need to do start now and not later. I know some programming so this should not be that hard.

Good luck all

Im in!!! and i got my game : Small impact

Second Ludum Dare in a row , i was initially a bit disappointed with the theme announced , principally because of the ideas i was coming with... and... boom !!!

I present you small impact :

Platformer/puzzle game where you take the role of a comet having the quest of restoring a solar system to it former glory!

ps : if someone know how to put image on post leave comment ;)

Getting started.

I have a very small idea, for a zen-like 'game' that shouldn't take me too long to finish. My two main goals are to create a small meditative experience, and to actually finish making it!

My idea!

So, I thought to myself, what world is smaller than the one inside our bodies?? And the truth is that there are a worlds a lot smaller than that. By my game will feature a leucocyte fighting infection bacteria. Deal with it.

Alright!

First Compo, no Jams under my belt. What could possibly go wrong?

So far: * Made some accounts on github and itch.io * Done some brainstorming. I wasn't a massive fan of the game theme initially, but if forced me to think outside the box. Got some interesting ideas, I hope.

Next steps: * Start the unity project * Make a plan for the game itself

If you'd like to follow my progress, my twitter and github are both tempestCognitor. Good luck everyone!

Going with a 2d Minecraft vibe. You start with your very small world and build blocks to grow.

Holding it down again for #LudumDare38 #Construct2 holla at your boy!

Progress...

Chipping away at making my own simple tileset to use as a stand in for whatever our artist magicks up. Couldn't find one online that I liked, so

Our game is going to be a simple platformer with focus on exploration. Hopefully by the end you won't feel so alone in all your struggles, because after all, it is A Small World ;>

I'm in, stretching the theme

I've really wanted to try out a spiritual successor to a game I enjoy, so while my game may not fit the theme, I hope it turns out and people enjoy it.

Settled on an idea! Kind of...

So I have settled on doing A 3D platformer, possibly puzzle based, where the main mechanic is that you can change size. Let's see how this goes!

Design Done!

So I've now finished the basic design. I've chosen a "Small Pet Tycoon" game inspired by Fish Tycoon! Dunno how its gonna turn out, especially since I'm HORRIBLE at art (and not even tried sound yet) but excited to see how it goes.

In case anyone is curious, I'm using Unity3D, C#, Photoshop, and Blender to make this game. Lots of work ahead of me!

I think I've got it!

I think I have a name for my game, and it is "A.I. : Army of I."

At least it has a name. But what does it mean? Is the "I" a pronoun or a roman numeral... or BOTH? GET EXCITE.

I've never finished a LD before, even though I've started a few times. Let's see if I can make this one the first one I complete.

I like the theme. Usually the ones I vote down are the ones that get picked, so this is a nice change of pace.

There are a lot of directions you can go with "small world". It could be a literal world that is small (I think I'm going to go with that). It could be a complete experience or system that's all in one place, or at a small scale. It can be a tightly-connected social network, where everyone knows everyone else.

When you're thinking in terms of making a game in a couple of days, and not having a lot of experience under your belt, you have to gravitate toward the interpretations that bring you to a result that you can actually accomplish. I thiink the first two will have that effect. A rich social network facsimile probably takes a lot of work to come out right, and that's not even considering the gamey-game parts of it. A physically small world, and a fully-contained system have a lot in common. With each other, and other scope-reducing themes, like "there is only one screen". They're about laying all the stuff there is to see out in the open, and not worrying so much about coaxing players into navigating things. Not having to worry about forgetting stuff because you can't see it.

I've wanted to make something with themes or mechanics of science/research, logistics, and procedural-generated progression systems. Some of the stuff I want to do is Hard with a capital H, so I will have to be careful not to let myself bite off more than I can chew by trying to mix into the game something bigger than my head. Can I do a game where the main gameplay is "doing science" set in a small world? What would that gameplay look like? Can I do a game where you're a giant being capable of moving ships across a tiny ocean? In a couple of days? Would that even be fun? I've been toying with the idea of a sorting game. I even sorta-made one at one point.

So maybe that's what I'll do. It's a slice of logistics, and I can see the player playing as a world-scale giant helping the tiny people of the world get stuff to where they want it. A simple world map, with cities. Basic colors and shapes representing the cities, the things they have, and the things they want. To help keep it narrow, I'll set a time limit or other time-constraining thing that will keep me from having the option of worrying about stuff like long-term growth and progression and stuff. There will be a static number of cities with not a whole lot of complex needs or products. Maaybe they'll trade with one another on their own, but they'll do so randomly and inefficiently. You'll play for like 5 minutes, and then you'll be told how much value was added to the world during those 5 minutes. Keep a list of scores from sessions you've played, and give an option to play again. Simple.

This will be my sixth Ludum dare and I think I have a pretty cool idea for the theme! I'll be using Unity and Blender.

Good Luck!

Captain's Log 001

We are a team of game design and CS students from George Mason University and our team name is Hyperfocus Games. We are sticking with the initial idea of a Rogue-like in space. The game will be in 3D and the worlds will work similar to how the levels work and Geometry Wars 3.

We are in

So, this is our first ludum dare. Team Herinque and I tomasara413. We'll use unity and probably try to stream the whole thing. Well, so I wish everyone good luck and have fun.

I'm in, but im going to bed now....

Its 5.30am right now, stayed awake to see the theme and maybe get some inspiration, then I'll probably dream of some mechanics/game-play.

So far, this is all I've got. https://youtu.be/ZEuwAuPoHQU
