LD 42 August 10–13, 2018

Let's do it!

I'm excited. I've been tinkering with a few different game making frameworks and engines for the last little bit, so I'm excited to finally put them to the test in Ludum Dare.

On a side note... these themes though! Some of them are super interesting and I'm excited to see which one gets picked. I haven't decided on what tools I'll be using yet, but hopefully I'll have all that figured out before Friday.

Good luck, everyone!

Dont make this hard

The world is a mess. Climate change destroying my country, Stupid people making stupid decisions everywhere. I am not even legally aloud to vote and i already get anxiety attacks thinking about how my dreams may not come true or the nature not being how beautiful as it is because of humanity.

I as well as many of you have been doing game development for a long time, I started at just seven years old. Game development has always been my escape from reality and humanity. Ludum Dare and other game jams are the best keeping me calm and in my own bubble giving me new dreams and hopes for my future.

So when people start complaining of the theme and going so long as making name lists i feel like a part of me die. Like yeah the theme is pretty much always bad but its a tradition and can we just calm down and focus on helping each other and respect others ideas.

I Love This Community and can we focus on something else

If you feel me leave a comment

Question

can you use songs for the jam that you made beforehand

How's everyone doing?

Thought I'd check in again, sucks I missed theme suggestion but I doubt they'd have made it anyway.

What's your plans for LD42?

For all those spamming -1 or complaining about themes...

Please leave a comment with your proposed "better" theme suggestions.

Looking forward to seeing these great themes you guys have that MUST be perceived as great by 100% of the community...

Lets Go!

sturgglesingamedevelopment group ready to roll out for LD42!

Team Cocoa Moss is IN for LD42!

Greetings fellow jammers! My name is DDRKirby(ISQ) -- you may recognize me from past LD entries such as Ripple Runner, Samurai Shaver, and most recently Goodnight Meowmie.

@xellaya and I will be joining in again for round 42 of Ludum Dare! I'm a seasoned veteran at this point -- this will be my 19th time doing LD, and my 11th time working together with @xellaya. We have no idea what will come out of LD for us this time, as we've kind of checked off our bucket list with our previous entries, so we'll just have to see what happens.

I'll be using some janky starter code, as well as the standard rundown of tools:

  • Unity3D with Monodevelop as IDE, deploying to WebGL
  • FL Studio for music and audio
  • LabChirp and Freesound for any additional sfx needs
  • Paint Tool SAI/Photoshop/Illustrator for @xellaya's art and animation
  • GIMP for any additional image processing I need to do on my end
  • Aseprite if we do any pixel art
  • Tiled and Tiled2Unity if we end up needing tilemaps

I've been using LeanTween for a while now, but this time around I'm adding Sinput, made by our very own community's @sophie-houlden to my Unity stack this time around. Sinput is an input wrapper that aims to simplify a lot of common headaches that you run into with Unity's API, and in generally just do The Right Thing that you'd want it to do. Looking forward to using it!

Normally I list some goals and/or hopes that I have for the jam, but honestly I don't really have anything in mind this time, besides not killing myself and making sure to treat myself well through the whole thing.

Still have a few things to do, most notably the tradition of going and stocking up on groceries and snacks (always an important part of LD!)...

See you guys at the starting line!

Noobs over here

Hi all,

Me and a couple of my friends are hoping to take part in LD42, we are two teachers and a software developer. Zero experience in game design but hoping to have some fun and gain some xp.

Looking forward to it.

Peace and love.

Ready for Round 2!

Hey LD Community! Our group will be entering LD for the second time! We were really surprised at what we came up with for last time and really enjoyed the experience (although it was pretty stressful at times.) We all loved the feedback and hope to receive more constructive criticism (and hopefully compliments!!!) for this entry! Our team consists of @kovakomes, @laurim, @sbx5, @carystringfield, and myself. We've all been talking about it since LD 41!

Our setup will include Unity, FL Studio, Illustrator, and most likely hosting on itch.io.

Good luck everyone!

Sooo.... Im in. My 2nd LD

I'll probably use those: - Unity, Gamemaker: studio or Clickteam Fusion as Game Engine - Gimp for Graphics - Bosca Ceoil or LMMS for Music - Audacity for Sound Effects

Good luck.

Welcome to Ludum Dare 42 (special time: 3 hours early)

Hi everyone, and welcome to Ludum Dare 42!

Final Round Theme Voting has started. Go over here and cast your vote:

:ballot_box: /events/ludum-dare/42/theme

For rules and other info, visit the event page:

:trophy: /events/ludum-dare/42

For those new to Ludum Dare, the website will become slow/unusable during the minutes leading up to the Theme Announcement, so we highly recommend you follow our Twitter account for the reveal:

https://twitter.com/ludumdare

The theme will be announced when the clock at the top this page reaches zero.

IMPORTANT: Ludum Dare 42 starts (and ends) 3 hours earlier

In case you missed it, we're trying something: running a Ludum Dare 3 hours early. That looks something like this:

  • 3:00 PM Friday on the West coast of USA/Canada ***
  • 6:00 PM Friday on the East coast of USA/Canada (me)
  • 10:00 PM Friday UTC
  • 11:00 PM Friday in the UK
  • 12:00 AM Saturday in France, Germany, Sweden, South Africa
  • 1:00 AM Saturday in Finland, Belarus, Moscow
  • 3:30 AM Saturday in India ***
  • 6:00 AM Saturday in West Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong
  • 7:00 AM Saturday in Japan
  • 8:00 AM Saturday in Sydney Australia

(My apologies if I omitted you... there are a lot of you )

Again, check out the clock in the top-right corner of the web-page. We've done our best to have it automatically adjust to your local timezone.

After the event, I'll be posting a survey to get feedback on this alternative start time. This isn't a permanent change, but if folks like it, it's something we might try again.

Keynote, hosted by Jesse Freeman (@jessefreeman)

Keynoting our 42nd event Jesse Freeman, probably best known around these parts for his "Fantasy Game Console" the Pixel Vision 8. I've known Jesse for more years than I can remember, and I'm thrilled to have him keynote.

That's it for now. It's time for the final vote!

I'm probably in

I'm probably in for the jam.

This time I want to make a photography-based adventure game (hopefully the theme will fit).

Tools: - my adventure engine (based on phaser3 and heavily inspired by AGS) - https://github.com/martim00/aventura - probably some of my beats for the background music - Aseprite

I'll be streaming at http://twitch.com/martim00
