Twine

Twine game about intergenerational trauma, working like crazy - stuck in the civil war

Those times...

...when you are working to fix a weirdly consistent performance issue until you have a short nap and realise that your auxiliary monitor refresh rate is somehow set to 24Hz.

This time I stick to the one characterdesign/style i'm actually good at.

But it's time to code now... hoping to get the ai behavior done until tonight.

Final character for my game

Nathan drake inspired character of my game, well I didn’t think it’d turn out this resembling but still I’m really happy, hardest part is that my engine doesn’t have any kind of animation capabilities so Idk what I’m going to do. Thought of non living things at first and went back to humans, have to start animation now. 51702551-B0EC-4C3E-B9CF-A609C7971B60.png

The Basement (first release)

Hello everyone. I hope that all goes fine for you developing your project for the 47 LudumDare. As a said, I love the theme which has been chosen by the community. Immediately I knew what I must do. We are working on a funny puzzle game using a first person view. This is something with a gameplay more or less similar with Portals, Antichamber, Manifold Garden or Fragment Of Euclid games. You pass through portals, changing your gravity, grabbing cubes so as to enable artefacts, and more more more. First releases are great, but I have many work to do in order to achieve something really playable. I wish you the best. See you later ++

Fully functional !

Managed to get the basic idea of the game fully functional.

Didn't want to innovate this time round and just make some simple games and just try to polish it.

Guess I will spend tomorrow creating more enemy types, maybe power-up for the players, and polish the game up.a

Decided not to participate - anybody need music?

I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with something decent for LD47's theme, but I simply couldn't do it. The theme felt restrictive to me. For that reason I will not be making a compo game despite having looked forward to LD47 for months.

joy.JPG

For that reason I may be up for providing music if needed (if I like your project of course). Here are some examples of different stuff, just so you can get an idea of what I can do:

I'm at risk of getting stuck in a loop of starting over and over. A weekend is not a good amount of time to try and make an ambitious sequel to my first proper game.

System Programmer struggeing with colliders

Good afternoon!

I hope everyone is doing well

My first milestone has been reached: getting a working piece of code that looks like a game. I made a log about progress thus far.

The first part of the day was troublesome. I could'n get the colliders to work properly. The character (which is a square right now, use your imagination) was just glitching all over the place. I started work at around 08:00AM. Around 12:00PM I was satisfied with the colliders.

Around 13:00PM I started at trying to get the level centered around the character (which is still a square). That was surprisingly easy! Withing 10 minutes I had the code working. After that I went on and tried creating an infinite loop. The idea is that the level will expand over time, the first time you play, it will be one screen looping around. When you revisit the level, it will have an extra screen. Getting that to work was surprisingly easy too! It took around an hour and a half.

The last half hour I spent on experimenting with the level layouts. I have to somehow program some rules so the computer can generate screens on it's own.

Some of the next steps are: Generating screens, Creating overworld (4 levels in a loop, every level will expand by one screen after playing), Creating some awesome graphics, Creating enimies, Creating sounds

Within 30 minutes from publishing this log, I will be away for a few hours (life is calling). I would appreciate if you could play it and give some feedback if you have time :-)

You can play it here: http://wouter52.com/?page=LD47_PART1&standalone=1

Joining!

Interesting theme

One of the first things that comes to mind thinking of it is: cj-idea.jpg

Despite the possibilities it offers regarding time, space or programming infinite loops I'm sticking to a simple idea that can make it into the compo and make a rhythm game starring a hamster :hamster:

I've already seen some of these adorable rodents popping up in the timeline, but I think there's no direct conflict with those ideas. I also have thought of changing the game mode to differentiate it further, but it'll probably go way beyond scope.

Regarding tech and full disclosure, this time I'll go with Unity 2020 and will probably reuse some beat-related code from Beatcraft, my entry for ld41, plus perhaps some useful third parties like DoTween

Good luck everyone, and remember to have fun and take care of yourselves!

Some progress

wip_02.gif

Now I need to implement the player's echo/ghost to make this solvable.

This took longer than it probably should...

LD47-00000.gif

Because I'm not using any build in collision systems, I had to write out the position of the box at a specified point in time on straight lines and corners (and while getting jumping and lane switching to work)!

Nice to meet you all!

Hi there, my name is Anastasia, I'm a beginner 3d artist.

Btw it's my second ldjam!

In previous one we created a pixel art game about collectible card game, and that was fun.

Now it's my debut as 3d artist and I'm a bit nervous.

My cat is called Bardak exactly the same as our Studio name ^^

Now we are moving through this jam in a team of four. I remember how hard it was last year when I was the only artist in a team. Now I have a professional 3d-artist as a partner and feel a relief.

So, wish everybody a good luck!

PS Be aware of spoilers! Screenshot 2020-10-03 172352.png raccoon.png

Game is (technically) done!

Added a system where you could alter how long the timeloop was, and made a custom scoring system to accompany it (shorter timeloop and fewer deaths = greater final score and vice versa)

Now.. polish!

Ludum Dare 47 Progress #1

The beauty of the compo is that it's a great incentive to try something weird. Given how little time you have, and the fact that you can't use any preexisting assets, there's nothing to lose by just opening up Blender and doodling things. So, in the last couple of hours, I made this:

templeshot.jpg

I've absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with it. And that's okay.

Almost finished with the story

I am very-very late and my bag of ideas was (and still is) too empty, mainly because I'm nervous as this is my first ever gamejam. I hope that I'll be able to squeeze everything I've just come up with into a small story about "concern-loops". Not planning to have extra-cool or original game mechanics, but instead trying to focus more on the visuals and audio.

Good luck to everyone else!

I still don't know how cars work

It took way to long to get even this figured out, but now I can start working on our actual game mechanics. Driving.gif

Yay first song I made for a jam!

Hey guys check out my ~~Brodyquest ripoff~~ ummm I mean my original song!!

https://opengameart.org/content/loop-town

I'm always working alone so I never made music, because it took too long. Today though I woke up early for a scheduled blood test and managed to make this entire piece before midday.

First concept scrapped

After spending lots of time on conceptualizing we scrapped our first idea: simulating infinite programm loops as a factory line and let the player escape the loop by adding control elements. We decided that its not possible to make it a fun game concept at least witgh our skills. loop1.png

Now we are trying something simpler.

Sleep needed

Who does not love programming for 10 hours straight?!

@puzmak

Untitled3.png

Awake but at what cost

Forgot that my brain does this awesome thing where if I go to bed really tired as soon as I'm in bed I'm not tired anymore. Think I got 4 or 5 hours tops, even with sleeping in later than I'd intended. I'm usually more productive in the afternoon/evening though, so hopefully I'll make up for lost time! I realize that I never actually laid out my plan, so here I go:

it's a game about the labyrinth (working title)

For years King Minos of Crete has been demanding young men in tribute to his wife's monstrous son, the Minotaur. You've had enough. As Theseus, prince of Athens, you decide to take down the Minotaur once and for all. Of course, with no help and no idea how to navigate the Labyrinth keeping the Minotaur locked away, you don't have much of a chance. But with Athena's blessing, no matter how many times you die, you'll wake up at dinner before you're sent to the Labyrinth. Talk with Princess Ariadne and gain her trust, learn the twists and turns of the Labyrinth, and finally fight the Minotaur until you've freed all of Greece from his man-eating ways!

Task list

  1. ~~Player controller - first-person with WASD/mouse look, ability to die and respawn~~
  2. Maze generation - originally I was going to go circular after the myth, but actually rectangular is more historically accurate because the inspiration was the palace at Knossos, with its maze-like layout, and that's very blocky. Unrelated, but also a rectangular maze will be much easier to make, and will let me generate it in sections with checkpoints between each one.
  3. Boss fight - create the minotaur with multiple phases of attacks. ~~He needs to be able to deal damage and take damage and follow the player around.~~ Right now I've planned for three phases of escalating difficulty, but this will be my first time making a proper boss fight so we'll see how that goes.
  4. Items - In the myth, Ariadne gives Theseus three gifts to help him. First is the Golden Yarn, which he unrolls behind him and then follows back to the start. In this game, it will help you find your way to the Minotaur, not away from him. At every checkpoint in the maze, it saves the path you've taken so far in the form of glowing golden yarn on the floor. This is persistent across all your attempts. ~~There's also her glowing crown, which will cast light and make it easier to navigate, and a sword to deal extra damage.~~ These will be hidden near the start of the labyrinth, but only if you convince Ariadne to help you.
  5. Ariadne - In the original myth, she instantly falls in love with Theseus. Here, you have to convince her. There will be a long conversation before entering the Labyrinth, filled with lots of choices of how to respond. Each time you're given a choice, there's one right answer and a bunch of wrong answers. If you answer wrong even once, the conversation ends for that loop and you have to go without her help. After you learn the proper things to say, you'll get the helpful items. I'm toying with the idea that there are levels in the conversation, and so you don't have to do all of it perfectly to get each item, but rather unlock them one at a time.
  6. Polish - menus, story, audio, models and animations, lighting, shaders, naming the game, etc etc

Progress is the key... Right?

So it has been a weirdish morning thus far. It has been slow, but the progress that I am making is very good. I am a big fan of point and click adventures. So I decied to make one, but with a twist. I also loved P.T. so I am creating a P.T. insprired isometric point and click game.Progress_1.jpg

Dip & Drip - Feed Zombie Babies with Froot Loops on your Fingers

As we're already working fulltime on a time loop game called Escape the Loop we tried to find an idea that has nothing to do with time.

We found one: You're a zombie parent, and your zombie babies are hungry for food loops! Stick food loops on your rotting fingers, and shake them (the food loops) off into your babies' bowls. But don't shake too hard, or you'll shake them (your fingers) into your babies' bowls.

Just came here specially to say good luck guys!

God damn it. I can't participate this time.

But I am currently working on a game... you know the game I've been working on for past two years and the game I shall publish next month (holy crap I am gettin' anxious thinking about it).

Anyway.

I wanted to say fricking GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU.

Thanks to LD I "finished" (hehe they're never finished, they're delivered before the deadline) my first game ever.

I know you'll make it guys. I only participated in one GJ where I didn't submit because Unity said so (constant build errors and we ran out of time).

Here. Grab my cats asking for attention while I am coding the UI in my mobile game.

May the force be with you

Got the main player mechanics done

Double Jump, Dash(not in this gif), fall damage, fall damage boots, shooting and a light cone! GIF1.gif

Coming along well!

An hour into the second day, and I already have four levels that I'm happy with, while before I thought I might not be able to make interesting levels at all. Very fun.

I still will probably have to come up with a few new concepts to implement to have a full complement of levels, but wow... this game is coming along quickly.

I should probably work on making the main menu and level select UI now.

ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER! gghl o/

I had an idea, but my skills said that next time...
