Ludum Dare 37 December 9–12, 2016

One room huh…

Well it was different to what i was hoping, but i think this will be fun regardless.

Running man meets Ice Fishing meets Top Down RPG, this is going to be fun 😀

Old game ideas

This Theme is just making me think of old game ideas that I never made, over again

I’m In

Now time to brainstorm. One room .. escape theme?

  • Engine: Crafty.js
  • Graphics: Blender & Gimp
  • Audio: Garageband, maybe python midi lib
  • Sounds: Audacity

Dug into GDX a bit, but I think I am going to stick to Crafty.js and focus on gameplay!

Good Luck to all, here’s to hoping i finish!

Make it engaging

The theme, One Room, is easy to work out in a visual novel.

The hardest part is to make the story engaging.

So, instead of those cliched mystery trapped-in-a-room games we’ve been bored to death of, I’ll be making a slice-of-life VN.

I’ve got a character artist on board, so I’m set.

In For LD37!

I’m in for LD37. Like LD36 entry, it’ll be from scratch. I thought about using the SpringRoll framework, but I didn’t find a quick way to jump in. I’ve been playing around with iDS-10 on my iPad, so I might do SFX and music with it. We’ll see.

Engine: none!

Language: Typescript!

Graphics: Hand-drawn and scanned or drawn on my iPad! Maybe just no art at all!

Sound and Music: STRETCH GOAL! iDS-10, and then edited in Audacity or GarageBand, which ever works easiest.

Stayed up for the announcement, time for bed now

So its 3:30 am here in Sweden, and I stayed up just to find out the theme. I thought would perhaps start working as well, but it will have to wait for the morning.

I hope I will dream lots of ideas about one room games..

See you tomorrow!

Good night and sweet dreams :)

“One room”

All I can think is about those escape/adventure-click-things games… don’t want to to that, lol!

Try to look up types of rooms or come up with similar themes to get some more ideas :) That’s what ive been doing

List of ideas/inspirations for one room games

  1. VR gimmicks (everyone who voted the theme simply due to having a Vive, I’m onto you)
  2. Crappy flash-type “escape the room by clicking at things” affair
  3. 70s arcade boxed gameplay thing (Asteroids, Tetris)
  4. One of those random-ass party games where you have the camera struggling to keep all 4 players onscreen
  5. Portal/Spacechem-type puzzle game
  6. Worms/Liero maps that are entirely enclosed
  7. A boss game
  8. Hotline Miami 2, AKA HM without walls (don’t actually do this pls)
  9. I am Bread (I actually loved that game)
  10. Super Crate Box
  11. Please Don’t Touch Anything (actually an LD game on VERY similar theme)
  12. Papers, Please
  13. Rocket League
  14. Literally any type of game with a “toys in the kid’s room” cop-out

Hahahaha, I DID want to make a VR game when I voted for One Room. :) But I voted for half of the list for this one.

My garage game :)

Im doing something different this time. Xmas themed with 4 kids bashing out a song in the garage (One room). Only thing is the Xmas grinch (their neighbour) isnt happy with their rehearsals. If the grinch knocks one of the kids over they stop playing. They need to complete the entire song without anyone stopping for a perfect score. Added bonus is Im writing it for Google cardboard using the Unity Google VR package.

Godspeed everyone! :’D

Let’s give this another go!

It’s been five Ludum Dare Jams with SynthGuitar since I last participated and here we are again. I made sure that the weekend is free to focus all the time on Ludum Dare. Let’s begin!

The chosen topic is: One room

As per usual the first idea that pops into my head is some platformer, but as the past has proven, making a platformer from scratch in the given time frame is quite tricky, especially since I’ve never implemented a fully working platformer. Not putting the idea right off, but maybe there are more interesting things to go after.

The plan right now is to first get some sleep and in the morning brainstorm a bit in what ways “room” can be interpreted and how far one can stretch the definition of “one”.

Here’s a cute dog picture just because dogs are awesome!

That is a beautiful dog :)

One room

Let's start, my friends.

 ¡Vamos a darle!

Estado actual: cansado y con mucha hambre.

vous etes français ? mon equipe ma laché je cherche une équipe :/

One Room

Prepping for my first every game jam, and I’m feeling stoked. Gonna aim for the 48 hour compo because I’m a crazy person who knows no limits! 😛

I’m doomed.

Got a great idea to do a single room sort of puzzle/experience storytelling game. Storytelling and inventing is my strength, and I’m looking forward to something in the style of some classic RPG maker horror games, like the Crooked Man and such.

Programs:

  • Unity 5.5
  • Gimp 2.8
  • Paint.net
  • Byond Dream Maker (So good for making sprites!)
  • Sfxr
  • fftuner
  • and a few others along those lines I’ll add as I remember them.

Getting this bowl of perogies in my belly and then it’s straight to work! First ever jam, here I come :D!!!

Thinking about One Room in a room…

My first ever Ludum Dare!

It is a pleasure to be with you all! Now time to think about a game!

Good luck to everyone!

Edit Tools :

Unity

Photoshop

Maya

at the moment .. we will see what it will be at the end!

Idea Chosen

So out of my 17 ideas I’m going with this:

“Survival game where you are stuck in a room with a murderer or monster and you have to move from hiding place to hiding place without getting spotted. You can guess the movements of the murderer by what he says or does when hunting you and during a brief introduction into his murdering methods.”

I have the clearest image in my head as to how I want it to look and feel, and I can think up the most amount of interesting mechanics for it.

Now to design this game up!

oh snap

i’m already running out of time
