We’re in!

We are a team of two and this will be our first time competing together as Gumboot!

Art – @comfyfish

Code – @niclupfer (solo ludumdare profile)

We will probably use:

  • Unity, C#, Visual Studio
  • Photoshop, Pyxel Edit
  • Sfxr, Musagi

Good luck and remember to have fun!

I’m in.

This will be my second/third LudumDare. (I already participated in LD34 and miniLD63)

It will be the first time I participate alone. (Maybe I’ll submit to the compo)

I’ll be working in Java. For graphics I’ll be using my own engine written in OpenGL/LWJGL (for 3D if I decide to go complex) or some simple OpenGL (DisplayLists are simple and fast….. ;)) for 2D.

Tools: Eclipse, Blender, Paint.NET, maybe some HeightMapEditor,

First Ludum Dare – Here’s hoping I can make good mistakes

Greetings .o/

This is my first Ludum Dare, and the practice for this has been a little outside of my usual comfort zone. Usually the programming I do is more scripting based, or doing neat graphics with JS for something designed to communicate with APIs, like stream overlays, basic web-toys or just various automation things. So making games is something I have some of the necessary skills in, but most of my discussion around games have more to do with concepts.

I’ve been streaming the past few days my practice leading up to Ludum Dare, and already I’ve been finding myself making mistakes I can learn from, like lack of planning my code resulting in bodged code later on that consists of single-letter variables, and several layers deep nested if statements and for loops. Which was good! I know going in that quick and dirty isn’t going to cut it, even with a 48/72 hour time limit.

So here’s hoping that I continue to make mistakes, because so far every mistake I have made has been one I’ve learned from. So the quicker I make mistakes, the better my first Dare should hopefully go!

I’m going to be using the following tools for my game…

IDE: Atom
Game Library: Phaser for HTML5
Graphics: Aseprite, Photoshop and After Effects
Music/Sound: FL Studio
Additional: Electron (incl. NodeJS) – Only if native functionality is required, otherwise web delivery will be included.

I’ll also be posting my source code regularly to github (https://github.com/VodBox/LD37), which currently has the base-code I will be using. I’ll also be streaming to my Twitch like I’ve been doing with my practice (https://twitch.tv/dillonea).

Here’s hoping that diving into the deep-end with the Compo will make me a better programmer if nothing else!

Your first LD? That’s amazing!

Just a teaser of my idea

teaser

Thats what I’ve got so far. This theme though )

UPD: already moved further, but had to wait till my post was in pending status. But now I’m a full scale user =)

Godel Escher Room

Well, we’ve got flashlights working in our escape the (Escher) room game… and some furniture strewn randomly around to test blocking off spaces.

You’ll be trying to escape the room, reading through story pieces and trying to determine which parts are hints that will actually help you get out in time… and which are red herrings.

Have made up the plan and laid out each of the puzzle challenges, now it’s time to write the little notes you’ll find lying around while AngryAlbino takes a brief break for tea and biscuits.

I’m in!

I’ll be using:

Code: HaxePunk + FlashDevelop

Art: Paint.net

Music: Bosca Ceoil

Sound: as3sfxr

Good luck everyone!

One Room! (at a time)

Or at least that’s how I’m going to interpret it.  Since this is my first Ludum Dare, and I’m doing the jam, I’m going to bend my expectations on nailing the theme.

The idea I’ve come up with is a series of ‘one room’ levels where the player simply has to make it to the other side of the room, climb a ladder and make it to the next floor/room.  Simple, and I’m going to be adding platformer elements like jumping over gaps.

I have the whole thing planned out, so I think 1:30am is a good time to call it quits for the night and begin with a fresh work day tomorrow.

Super excited to get working on the game, and good luck to everyone participating!

Checking In

Hello One Roomers,

I’m off to a late start, and can’t fully commit to the 48 hours, but I’ll do what I can. The game I intend to make is based on an idea that I’ve had for a while. This jam will be an opportunity to prototype it.

Concept:

A ruined space station has been overrun by a horde of mindless baddies, and you must keep at least one room secure as your crew explores the structure to discover the mystery behind the station’s fate.

Gameplay is a lot like Duskers. Here also, atmosphere is important, but I’m not sure of much of that I will be able to communicate. Getting the puzzles and strategy correct will be key.

Tools:

Basic Web tech: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, plus image editing software (PS, Paint.net, etc.).

GLHF!

We Have Our Idea!

Update #1!

We started the night off by going to to get some dinner and then stocking up on snacks.
It was delicious.

The theme was announced while we were at dinner so we began to discuss possible ideas immediately.
The current time here is 12:25am so we’re about 4 and a half hours in and we have finished our initial brainstorming session and we have our idea!

We laid out the majority of our game and what we need to do to get started!
Tonight will mostly be setting up the framework and some more concept sketches. I’ll probably start getting some early in-game assets goin’ as well.
I’ll be live streaming for a while here: https://www.twitch.tv/artcode

We’re sippin’ our coffee and excited to get started!
“There’s too much to do, I quit!” – Josh (Was literally said as I was typing the above sentence.)

Never mind.

I’m in!

Last minute decision, but it seems to always be the case! This will be our 2nd LD together, hopefully we’ll finish this one.

Art – @tjerzee

Code: @KairosXIII

Good luck everyone, let’s finish this game!

Cool!

First Dare–Much Needed

Been awhile since I’ve been able to work on anything game related. As of late its all been web design and development. So I asked my boyfriend to join me on this journey :p

Started the night out with Red Wings hockey and an Organic Rockstar. That cane sugar does not mess around. Now onto some coffee, because why not.

Google Doc is filled out with the theme in place, as well as, story. Tile set has begun in PyxelEdit.

Luke – Programmer/Audio (Unity/Some sort of free mixing software)

Myself-Artist/UI/Audio (Illustrator, Photoshop, PyxelEdit)

Tonight we will finish setting up the Unity project, finalize concept art, and start on Art Assets.

Here’s to a great first dare! Can’t wait for tomorrow.

Cheers!

Work continues on a floating-house game

Basic Tileset is made, Background still needs work, Animations need to be made and the gameplay needs to be mostly finished on second day

Still need to add the outhouse. A house that keeps the island afloat by biofuels and weapons involving feces. Ammuniton and fuel is one and the same forcing the player to conserve ammunition and also forcing them to consider their ‘room’s fuel.

Enemies, Dodging, Collisions, better sprites, particles and animations and a main menu still need to be done. Planning the game was already done on paper so a clear gameplay mechanic and idea.

Good job!

How do I thing build?

Eventual (long-term) goal… develop WebGL games in Rust.

Current situation…

  • I have a fair understanding of OpenGL and GLSL.
  • I have some experience with Rust.
  • I have a very minimal understanding of how Emscripten / asmjs & friends work.
  • I have zero experience with WebGL.

Alright… no experience with WebGL… that’s a show-stopper, so maybe my goal over the weekend will be building a minimal game with WebGL.  So first, find resources.  The NPM crowd seem very good about this sort of thing… let’s see what they have.

  • https://github.com/stackgl/webgl-workshop

Alright!  It’s cram time!

Thank you, comrade!

The concept for Never Leave

This is going to be my first ludum dare game jam. I have participated in a game jam last year which was the LibGDX game jam and it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot, if frustrating just trying to get things working for my game.

Anyway, this one took a bit to come up with the ideas as I was going through between being stuck in a room cause of enemies trying to get in or having to survive in a room. Ultimately I decided on surviving in a room as I feel like having the player character just try to survive their day to day life would be interesting if there is a twist. Who knows, but onward to coding for now before the artwork starts up.

P.S. – This game will be made in Unity
