LD27 August 23–26, 2013

Preparing for LD27

Things I will be using:

  • IDE – ZeroBraneStudio
  • Language(s) – Lua, possibly C# for content tooling as needed
  • Library – LÖVE
  • Sound – Probably bfxr because I’m cheap like that; Audacity for post processing
  • Screenshot recorder – DevCap

Also, some portions of my LD27 entry may be based on code from my LD26 entry. which is the real reason I’m writing this post

Time lapse will be available following the compo assuming I finish my entry.

Those nights

Doesn’t everyone love those nights where you plan on learning something

or playing around with some code to end up on random tangents on Youtube or other random sites?

Well chalk this night up to one of those nights as it is now 3:00 AM here with nothing new learned.

And with that I leave you a Nick cage photoshop I made:

Good to see another road warrior returning to the fray, fight on my friend.

I’m in – Looking forward to it!

Hi all LudumDarer’s!

Joining for the second time! Last time for the Jam, with two friends! This time I’m trying my luck solo in the 48h compo.

Tools I will be using:

IDE: Unity with C#
Graphics: Photoshop (Blender if I do 3D)
Audio: BFXR, Audacity
Music: Figure (iOS)

Will most likely stream to twitch.tv but information on that will come later.

I’m In!

Yes! Freed up the weekend for the 48 hour jam and ready to get my coding on  😀

Tools of choice will be the usual suspects:

Unity3d
Photoshop
SFXR
Audacity
Milkshape 3D
Pen, Paper
A microphone and probably some crazy things smashed with a hammer for rudimentary foley!

Now, time for me to turn around and yabber on to everyone here at work about how excited I am about the weekend ‘n’ stuff all week long until I get buried under a lotta nerf gun fire!

Best of luck everybody and have fun making ‘n’ playing!

I’m in. You too.

It’s time to make another odd game for Ludum Dare !

Yep’ ! Pyrofoux will be here, and what he will use ?

THIS :

  • Glitchy Programmation : HTML5
  • Awful Graphics : Paint.NET
  • Annoying Sounds : Sfxr, Generated Music or Autotracker
  • Stupid Concept : Me
  • Fun Time : YEEEEES !

I don’t want to be alone, so YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE A GAME too.

If you can’t, here is my Wishing Well ;)

I am in

Or I will try to be, again. Probably using:

D programming language (D2; gdc 4.7.3; phobos; gdb)

OpenGL 3.3

Blender 2.68

GIMP 2.6

SFXR/BFXR

I hope I can submit a finished game this time. I only submitted anything once before after trying many times to make the most of my 48 precious hours, and it only ended up having about 30 seconds of content!

30 seconds is 30000000000 that seems like a massive number to me, good luck.

Good to see someone jumping into the deep end. Using libraries doesn’t make you weak, if it all goes to hell you can always try adding in some libs to help with graphics/sound.

I too like Java without libraries. I find that often it takes more effort to learn a library than to make your own tools.

in the future i will make my own lib i dont like using libs

First Ludum Dare!

Hello! In April, I watched a friend create a game for the LD, and I thought that it was really cool. I decided to learn game development. I had been learning some java before that, so looking around, I found LibGDX, which is what I will be using. To be honest, I didn’t really focus on game development at all over the summer because of distractions. All I managed to make is a menu, so this week before the LD, I will be doing some last minute learning stuff, and hopefully be able to create something this weekend.

I will be streaming at twitch.tv/dragonmaster21.

Coding: LibGDX, Java, Eclipse
Graphics: Photoshop
Sound: sfxr
Music: FL Studio

I’m just looking to have a bit of fun, so good luck and have fun everyone :D

I’m in for the first time !

Hi everybody,

Here are the tools I will use for LD27 :

  • Programming Language : Java
  • IDE : Eclipse
  • Librairy : Slick2D
  • Graphics : Photofiltre
  • Music & Sound : Famitracker & sfxr
  • Maps : Tiled Map Editor

I hope I will finish my game within the 48 hours !

Good luck to everyone :-)

Cool, seems like you have a good setup there. If you aren’t familiar with your tools have a good play with them this week, you don’t want any surprises in the compo. Good Luck.

Round 2 summary in my view

I didn’t make a post with Round 1, since most of the themes were kinda disappointing. My far favourites were 10 seconds, Alchemy and Space. Round 2 is slightly better, deciding was almost too hard!

LD27 theme voting

Here’s the Round 2 summary!

Alternative Reality: I love digital things! *m* instaplus for me. Not the best but may worth a try.

Backwards: the first tough “sacrifice”. It’s actually a good theme, but I must ignore it to let others go.

Colonisation: might be too strict and not abstract enough, but I’ve always wanted to make a game with this theme. Within 48, I may even be able to create something unique.

Colours: since the “llamas can’t see colours” game (can’t remember its name, I found it on Kongregate) I’m able to give it a try! Not a strong argument, but enough for me to vote +1.

Consequences: for MiniLD maybe. Too abstract, if I can tell it.

Death is useful: sounds great but have no idea for implementation. I’d prefer something else instead.

Destruction: can’t give -1 for this. Needless to explain. 3:)

Glitch: I got a great idea once before by a glitch. I must do it if it wins.

Illusion: also for MiniLD maybe. There are some better ones.

Keep them Alive: sounds no more than “guardian simulators”. I don’t want it for a regular LD48.

Limited View: also nice, but next time maybe.

Manipulation: I can smell some sandbox features in this concept!

Metamorphosis: one of the best in this set, I think.

Protect your Enemy:  sounds guaranteed mess for three oppontens. I love crazyness!

Recursion: seriously, what to do for it?

Rescue: since there was an “Escape”, it needs. Also, result can be epic easily!

Sacrifice: don’t want it now.

Silence: the lack of something significant. Must…be…done!

Trust: same as Consequences. Too abstract.

Underground: sounds something perfect for Ludum Dare 48!

Void: we have Space in the previous one. Nothing else to say.

You are the Companion: I’ve always loved staying behind someone stronger and helping him/her/it in games.

You play both sides: somehow, I don’t want it now.

Overall: best ones are Underground, Colonisation, Silence. Worst ones are Trust, Consequences, Recursion.

Can’t wait for the final result!

Declaration of Intent

Hey all! Hopefully I’ll be participating this weekend, but who knows what could come-up.

Depending on what idea I come-up with for the theme, I have two plans:

  1. For 2D stuff, Java using libGDX and my personal framework.
  2. For 3D stuff, Unity. I’ve only briefly toyed with it though, so this is a riskier option.

For art, probably GIMP, though Pyxel Edit is nice for making tiles. If 3D, Blender, which I have no experience in so that’ll be great! Audio is probably going to be me making silly noises into a microphone. I highly doubt I’ll have music, but you never know.

May the force be with you all.

Sounds like a reasonable plan, good luck this weekend.

In for LD27

I’m definitely in again this time.  Last time, my goal was to make a *fun* game, and not just manage to enter.  I’m not convinced I managed that goal, but a few people seemed entertained at least.  So this time, my goal remains the same.

I’ll be using the same tools as always:  Unity, Blender, Photoshop.  I’ll also be adding a wonderful music generator to the mix:  http://www.abundant-music.com/ !

At least, I hope I get to the point of having music.  😉

I think I will once again lean heavily on simplistic 3D graphics as I still haven’t put any time into practicing with pixel art.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned from LD, it’s to play to your strengths and not try new skills.  At least, not until you’ve got everything good enough to submit.  :)

Another great thing I’d love to do would be to implement support for the Oculus Rift.  I wanted to last time, but wasn’t able to figure out how to make NGUI work with it.  This time, perhaps I’ll work around that by not having menus as such.  We’ll have to see.

Sounds like a really good plan for this LD. Well done on completing a game on your first attempt and managing to get some fun out of it. Good Luck.

First time!

Hello everyone! This will be my first ludum dare, and I’m really excited for it! I’m a programmer and currently I’m studying game development at PUCPR. I’m still learning how to create games, so unless the theme is very simple I’ll probably join the jam, this time.

My tools will (probably) be:

  • Language: C#
  • Libs: MonoGame. If I join the jam, I’ll also use a small helper lib I created from previous projects.
  • IDE: Visual Studio 2012/MonoDevelop/Xamarin.
  • Graphics Paint.net.
  • Sound Sfxr and whatever else works at the time.
  • Maps: Tiled.

Looks like a good setup, remember as things get hard it is not the themes fault. Good Luck.

Xmas is here!

LD27 already? That’s a chunk of tasty news! I’m in, and feelin’ almost prepared. My previous effort turned out perdy good, so I’m hoping my preparededness isn’t a liability.

Less is Zmore

The code I wrote for LD25 & LD26 I’ve squished together into Ω500: a small JavaScript library that’s actually taking a bit of shape. I’ve even made some documentation and a handful of snippets and demos. I still wouldn’t recommend anyone using it, but I feel like now I’ll be spending a lot less time on the engine and more time on game design.

Famous last words.

Thats awesome, ludumdare won’t even see you coming. Good Luck.

Another library; this time it’s final

I’ve already made several pre-Dare post, but so I follow the rules; here is ANOTHER library of mine. This time I broke down everything, and smashed it into the ABSOLUTE basics, with little structure at all. It handles;

  • Rendering
  • Constant FPS

The library contains 5 Java classes overrall

Side Note: I am a big new-guy to the game development thing myself; but I love that we are having so many “First time!” post here :)

You look very prepared for your first time, remember to take it slow, more speed less haste is the motto. Good Luck.

First time for everything!

Hi all, I’ll be participating this time for the Ludum Dare comp! I’ve often followed along with the Dares, and this time I’m ready to have a go! I’ll even be streaming it over the weekend 😀

I’m a Unity3D user, with a fondness for abstract thinking, so whatever the theme, my game won’t be simple.

Unless..

Unless that’s the theme.

I’m not sure what I’ll do then..

Probably Pong..?

Anyway – I look forward to making games with you all!

I hope you journal through this ld, Id love to see a slow descent into madness while you make your game. Good Luck.

I (we) are in

This year I will be participating in LD27, which will be my second Ludum Dare. Last year I worked alone (and failed miserably), this time I will have classmate and friend OxySocks working with me. Which of course automatically means we will be participating in the “Jam” version of LD.

The tools we will be using:
Engine: Unity, writing scripts in C#
2D art: Photoshop
3D art: Blender
Sound effects: Bfxr
Music: Abundant Music

Since we are both programmers I doubt the art will be anything more than programmer art, although OxySocks is definitely a lot more skilled than I am when it comes to (2D) art assets.
I’m not sure if we will even get to adding sounds/music either, but we will see! :) It’s good to have at least a tool available in case we need it.
Oh, ánd we are not too experienced with Unity. My knowledge is ‘rusty’, I haven’t used Unity since LD24, and OxySocks has only started learning Unity for this jam.  If we are not able to finish a game at least we’ll have learned quite a bit about the engine, I guess.

Yeah, so. I hope it will be an enjoyable weekend for both us (even though we are ‘Jamming’ we will probably only have 48 hours due to personal schedules) and the rest of you participants!

Whoo.

Even though I’ve made games in the past, I’m new to this entire Ludum Dare thing. So I figured, why not give it a shot? :) I’ll be making a game with the Sphere game engine, which is a 2D JavaScript-based game engine. (But not in a browser.)

I’m pretty into old-style stuff (“retro” I suppose :P), or unique-looking stuff, or weird stuff, and good underdogs that don’t seem to have been noticed by many people.

So… Hi! Looking forward to making something fun and enjoying the many, many entries. The themes seem promising so far!

hello

Let’s get it on!

After taking a break from LD last time. I’ve decided to throw myself into the ring a second time.

First time, I used Java as my weapon of choice, but this time around I’m thinking of trying my hand at something a little more simple. So I’ll either be using Game Maker Studio, or Unity, depending on the theme and my inspiration.

I WILL be streaming the whole time I’m working, and will post the link when the compo starts.

I’ve been working in a professional software engineering position, going on a year and a half now. So, my work experience should help in rapid prototyping and problem solving 8D

Good luck to all who enter, and I hope everyone has a great time!

PS: I’m AM interested in working with a sprite artist, if one is looking for a programmer. you can get a hold of me via e-mail: ultimateharan (at) gmail (dot) com
Thanks! ^-^

I will try and drop by to watch your stream. I too have been working as a software engineer for just over a year, if anything I am getting worse at making horrible hacky code. Guess that won’t help for LD. Good Luck.
