SDL is almost always better, nothing beats glfw!!! Good luck.

EmptyFlash and Nineball are IN again

Getting real pumped, just finished the SomethingAwful Game Dev Challenge 8 (If you want to play that game, check it out), ready to go for another round of game development. Unfortunately, our website is down, so I’m working on getting that to work. The good news is I’m hoping to stream the majority of time.

It’s been too long Ludum Dare. <3

Cool to see another streamer. Good Luck

Integrating…

Uploaded my Warmup game as planned. Got carried away as usual, and spent 5 extra hours on the project. Might take it to Kongregate or something 😛

I believe I know myself well enough so that I can say there will be a highscore table and a preloader. Tomorrow.

Other than that, I’ve finally added my avatar. It was a bit more complicated as expected…

Awesome to see you having done a warm up game, the avatar looks good. Good Luck

Aaaaand I’m sick. >_<

Murphy be damned, I’ve had some really minor symptoms for a week or so, and now that the weekend I’ve waited for the whole summer is almost here, I get sick. WHY ME?

Nevertheless, I will stand (or sit) strong! I just have to trade some dev time for drinking tea and blowing my nose…

I would love to get just a little sick before the weekend. Perfect excuse for skipping irl stuff!:)

I’m just getting over my sickness that I’ve had for the last week. Sorry to hear you just got it. I was kinda glad I got mine before and not now. But hey, finishing a game like that shows some true determination!

ENDURE!!! Good Luck

Chien Loco is In Again!

After Minimum Friction on Ludum Dare 26, I’m back, hoping to have as much fun as I had the last time. As the last time I’ll use:

  • Linux (Ubuntu 12.04)
  • g++ and Netbeans
  • Gimp
  • SFML 2
  • The menu, splash and credits code I used for Minimum Friction.
  • Audacity, sfxr, Otomata and my guitar + amplifier.
  • Mingw32 to cross compile my game for Windows.
  • An Epson scanner if I ever feel the need to scan something into bits.

Hopefully this time I can get a Beta out by Saturday in the afternoon. Also, hopefully I’ll complete the game with at least a few hours in advance. Realistically, I’ll complete the game just in time before the submission process is over. And be glad that another game is done in 48 hours ;).

Looks like a strong setup, good luck.

I’m In

This is my first Ludum Dare, and I’m pretty excited about it.  Did a compo at GameJolt a few months ago and had a great time, so I’m looking forward to this bigger jam.  Also, being only 48 hours, I see it as a great way to leave my game dev comfort zone for a while and try something new.

I do a lot of work with SDL and C language, and the other jam I did used Pygame, so I’m going to try something new and use some web languages.  I want to see how far I can get with HTML, JS, and perhaps a little Python for the backend.  I even want to stay away from JQuery, just for the challenge.

Obviously whatever I end up having will be largely text based, so its a challenge in game design as well as an experiment on stretching the limits of the technology.

Language: HTML, JS, maybe a backend language like Python/PHP

Environment: Geany, LAMP

Graphics: Inkscape, KolourPaint, Evolotron

Audio: Hydrogen, QTractor, Audacity

That will be tought

I don’t have Internet at home. No connection. Zero.

Well, 4kbps. That is the same as none.

The question is, will I be able to do a ludum dare without our friend Google? Will my provider be able to solve the problem before this weekend? I hope to enter this, my 5th LD!!!

I’m in!

I’m in! This will be my 4th Ludum Dare.

Also I organized a meetup in Calgary so I’ll have to get everyone to post about it on here too. So far 10 people are planning on showing up 😀

Pretty Excited!

Request

I don’t know if it’s easy to do or useful but, is it possible to create a page that distribute the games depending of the language programming used once finished the competition. I think it would be a nice feature of LD48 that could help to people to see and study how other people are coding the same game programming issues and how they solved them.

My Version of the “Warmup Weekend”

Hello there :) I’m still a student of age 19, but I think I’m already inspired enough to go into the game dev industry. As part of preparing for LD27 (and also for filling up my resume,) I continued development for one of my game projects. I call it “The Game of Life.”

No, the title doesn’t refer to the board game of the same name. Rather, it’s actually related to J.H. Conway’s Game of Life (the cellular automata one.) Since I only found one game (so far) based on Conway’s Game of Life, I might as well make one that is interesting.

I think I already spent around a month in this game (mostly spare time), including graphics and sound.

I’ve used SFXR, Game Maker 8[trial], and PxTone Collage to make this game.

However, the Warmup Weekend post said
“Make something that should take “hours”, not 2 days,”
I think it’d be improper for me to submit a 1-month game project in the submisions page.

Well, hope you’ll like my game! :)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/o4lco5171ttqx9a/gameoflife_v0.8.exe

v1.0 still in progress, but the current version is already playable.

Glider-chan in the background. I'm planning to add her in future releases.

The Game of Life gameplay

How to Play:
Everytime the board stops moving, you can place tiles.
Be careful not to waste your tiles, or the game is over.
Scores depend on the rarity of the resulting figures.

That’s amazing! Every time I go through new posts in this site, someone references something I’ve just found out about. I found out about cellular automatons and the Game of Life yesterday (through Computerphile), and I’m really psyched about it! I was just thinking of how to make a strategy game with it when I saw your post! Anyway, good job!

It looks like a fun game. I’ve found it to be too easy though, it looks like I can play it forever (right now I have 57 blocks to place after about 10 minutes of play). That makes it a bit boring. But I think it’s quite good for a cellular automata based game, as such games seem to be very random unless you are really familiar with some cell combinations.

Yeah, I’ve noticed it was too easy at times, but I’m planning to add enemies, make the tile bonuses rarer as the game goes on, as well as ways for additional user input. After that, I’ll try to balance the game.

I’m in

This is my 3rd entry. The first one was completed using XNA. I fail to finish the second one as I used a library that I wasn’t familiar with(SDL), and I use a personal codebase that is extremely buggy. This time I am using SFML. My personal code base is at github. This codebase probably will not fail me like the last one did.

I am still working on a small game that should be done within these 2 days. That would also mean that my codebase will be updated again, from the codes I wrote in this new project. Feel free to checkout (check it out and git checkout) my code if you find it useful for you =).

In.

This is my fourth LD!

I’ll be using Construct 2 and GraphicsGale.

And I guess that’s really all there is to say for now.
