LD29 April 25–28, 2014

another LD29 participatory announcement post

I don’t think anyone actually reads these things, but I’ll throw this in here for posterity.

Ludum Dare is an awesome opportunity to channel your raw creativity through the focus of a time constraint. Every time I’ve enjoyed it and learned new things–and I just might’ve entertained a few players. Enough propping up Ludum Dare, though (even if it deserves it). Here’s the obligatory run down:

Shooting for the Compo, going solo. It always turns out unexpected bugs make me need the extra hours and I do the Jam. We’ll see

Language: Dart (browser/html5)

Engine/starting-point: Updated: Using my custom-rolled boiler plate code. Contains basic things like drawing sprites, initializing WebGL, updating entities, very basic collision detection, playing sound, etc. https://bitbucket.org/KyleMessner/ld_base

IDE: (not using one, but I’m using Sublime Text 2 and the dart command line tools, also the dartium browser for debugging)

Graphics: mspaint and GIMP

Audio: FL Studio 10, Audacity, SFXR

Sustenance: Red Bull, Mountain Dew, Domino’s

Value: priceless

Edit: updated the link to the boiler plate code I’ll be using. All code and assets contained are released public domain, see the link for more information.

Welcome, my friend!

I hope you make a great game in this next LD!

For the First Time in Forever

My daughter is probably the biggest* fan of Disney’s Frozen – and one song would – with some text modifications  – match my feelings these days ;)

My Gear:

ld29 gear

Hardware: ThinkPad E130 & oldish iMac (mostly for audio recording)
Language: Javascript
Library: 2D: ImpactJS or Phaser, 3D: three.js
Editor: Sublime
Graphics: GIMP, maybe trying Pickle on my mac
Sound: SFXR, Garageband (mac), a guitar, a steirische harmonika
Other Tools: chronolapse, github, pen & paper

My Goal:
having fun & getting done.

* along with thousands of other kids and adults :D

Just…

… doing some art
… playing some games
… listen cool music
… programming some tools

If is a guess…

… LudumDare is here!! 😀

I’m in.

Been a while since I participated, so glad to not miss out on it this time around. I think it’ll be my fourth time. My intent (yet again) will be going solo for the compo, but I like to keep plans loose for at least until I actually hear what the theme is going to be.

Language: Javascript

Library: Phaser

Editor: Sublime

(the rest I’ll leave as TBD, as in I’ll post whatever other utilities/apps I use as I catch myself using them)

I’m ready to lose my Ludum Dare V plates

I’m ready for #29. It’s my first time.

Tools: Blender, Unity, GarageBand (iPad, as I’m a PC), Photoshop

Since I’m weak at art, I’ve been experimenting with a low poly art style for the last few days. Here’s what I came up with.

Low poly artwork done in blender

Low poly art style test done in blender

Post your Ludum Lair #ludumlair

Where will your moments of laughter, sobbing and delirium be spent this weekend? Here’s mine (The little red synth is a SH101 from 1983). #ludumlair

Ah yea, that I’m in post

Just to follow everyones lead, I’ll just let you guys know that I’ll be trying to do the next LD! 😀

Last time was my first and I wasn’t able to finish.
Did had great fun and worked on the same ‘game’ for a little longer before abandoning it completely.

This time is going to be different though since I’ll be using these babies:

– Unity (probably 2D)
– Visual Studio 2012
– JetBrains Resharper
– Photoshop CS 6 (I think I got 6 at home…)

I’d probably go with some simple, abstract gameplay and art because I want to finish something.
I always find myself getting stuck at making the actual gameplay and spending way too much time on all the menu fluff so guess that’s my goal for this LD.

Good luck everyone!
Can’t wait!!!

I’m in from spain! (1th time!)

Let’s watch this weekend burn together!

I’ll be developing in the solo compo, first time in my life, I’m going to use:

Libgdx and Java as my developer tools (And Eclipse, badly)

Inkscape and PyxelEdit as my shitty graphics productors!

– And SFRX of course, :)

I’m a little nervous, but let’s see what happens the weekend!

Fourth time already

Hi fellow Ludum Darers,

It’s already my fourth time participating and I’m still excited as this was the first time.

As always I will be sharing space, food and drinks with some friends doing the LD too. But we are all participating in the compo.

I will be using Inkscape, Paint.Net, The Gimp, LMMS and bfxr for art stuff. Depending on the game I wanna make I’ll choose between Unity3D or my own JavaScript engine: {FM.js(engine);}. I also often use Tiled Map Editor when doing JavaScript games. And of course all my code will be available on GitHub during and after the LD. I’ll also try and post stuff on my Twitter. If you wanna check the games I made for other LDs you can find them here or on my GitHub.

I wish you all a great LD, can’t wait to play your games!

Simon

in!

Hey everyone! I will be attending the compo as well (first time). Really excited to finally do this.

Tools of the trade:

Engine: Unity3D

IDE: Visual Studio

Language: C#

SFX/music tool: Bfxr, Audacity

Image editor: Paint.net

3D editor: Blender

3rd party library: LeanTween ( https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/3595 )

Also, I have a question for anyone who can help:

Are free scripts from the Unity Asset Store considered publicly available? (such as LeanTween, iTween)

Later edit: Yes, they are.

Edited here not to waste another post on my announcement:

I’m in again and hope to finish this time!

This is going to be my 5th LD and so far everytime I have abandoned my game halfway through or not spent enough time on it. This time is going to de different! I am going to be having a friend over for the weekend and we shall be hopefully spending a lot more time on this. I shall be doing the programming and a bit of art and my friend will be doing Music, Sound FX and a bit of art as well. I feel that our main problem will be art as neither of us are that good at it (me being the worst).

We shall be using:

– Game Maker Studio

– Parakeet (custom IDE for GML, Highly recommend!)

– Gimp

– LS DJ

– Audacity

Good luck everyone!

I am in!

First post and nothing more to say but: I am in! This is the second time for me. The first was the sharkjam last year.

Also: Some informations about the stuff I will use:

– Paint(…what? Don’t give me that look : O)

This is such a terrible idea but…I’m in

LD Saturday marks my 3-year anniversary with my girlfriend; it’s also my last weekend to work on various final projects before I graduate (I should be getting excited about that graduating college thing, but all I seem to be getting is tired). Basically, this is an absolutely terrible weekend for me to try making a game, but I’m going to go for it anyways (looking back on my previous “I’m in” posts, this is starting to become a theme for me).

My usual LD goal-list looks something like this:

  1. Learn something new
  2. Complete a game
  3. Score better than 50% of participants in Compo/Jam (whichever I join)
  4. Score better than Puzzlem00n in every category (one day, Tim…one day!)
  5. (Optional goal) Interpret the theme in a unique/atypical way
  6. (New goal!) Remember to do a post-mortem

Thanks to added stresses/constraints of college and love and exhaustion and all that, I think I’m going to have to forgo most of those, which means my goal list looks a bit more like this:

  1. Learn something new
  2. Complete a game thing
  3. Score better than 50 5% of participants in Compo/Jam (whichever I join)
  4. Score better than Puzzlem00n in every category (one day, Tim…one day!)
  5. (Optional goal) Interpret the theme in a unique/atypical way
  6. Remember Arrange for someone to do a post-mortem for me after the funeral

Also thanks to additional stresses/constraints, my toolset is probably going to be something I’m already more familiar with (rather than using it to meet goal #2). It’s all pretty up in the air, but I’ve got a feeling it’ll be something like this:

      • Language C#/Lua (or a text-based game in Python)
      • IDE: Visual Studio 2010/Monogame (C#) or Vim/Sublime (Lua and Python)
      • Graphics: GIMP
      • SFX: maybe sfxr/bfxr, but probably nothing
      • Music: maybe autotracker-c, but probably nothing
      • Girlfriend Displeasure Diffuser: smooth talking
      • Damage Control (after smooth talking failure): profuse apologies

Energy: caffeine

Motivation: caffeine”Sustenance”: caffeineSleep: caffeineAnti-depressant: caffeineLifegiver: caffeineCaffeine: unpopular flavors of Monster, unusual energy drinks no one’s ever heard of (both courtesy of Big Lots), hot tea (earl/lady gray, lapsang souchong, gunpowder green, English breakfast)

Warmup Weekend Result – Furry Dangerzone

This last weekend I created a github project, picked the autogenerated name, and proceeded to create Furry Dangerzone.

Three and a half hours after getting familiar with Gosu I had a playable game. 24 hours later I had a polished game. ~48 hours later I had an optimsed, somewhat bug-free game. Since then I’ve been improving it here and there.

It’s flappy-bird-esque: space to jump, don’t touch the stars or the edges.

Tools used:

  • Sublime Text 3
  • Gimp
  • SFXR
  • Gosu game engine
  • Ruby language
  • MacBook Pro

Looking forward to participating in the Jam this weekend. This will be my first Ludum Dare. 😀

Mechanic Moon Studio will be in again!

equipo2-300x189

Hello again! This edition will be my third time enjoying the Ludum Dare. We are working in the remake of our last game, Hidden Prison (the baby has grown a lot), but we don’t want to lose this opportunity to improve our skills and join you in the bigger (and the best) jam of the world. I don’t know if the designer would have time to help me this time. Depending of that I will join to the 48h or 72h Jam.

This edition I will repeat using Game Maker Studio (I have solid skills now) and our target is to release the game in Html5 (in the last edition, it wasn’t possible) and a possible port to Android.

Good luck everybody, the time is almost out!!
