LD29 April 25–28, 2014

I’m in!

This will be my first Ludum Dare. I don’t know whether I will be doing the jam or the compo. I guess it depends on what I have done by the end of the weekend, but I’ll just go by the compo rules so that if I have something I feel good about I can submit it. Last year in April, I watched @hologuardian create something and I thought it was the coolest thing so I decided to learn how to create games (I already had some experience with Java). I found LibGDX and have been learning since then (thanks to www.youtube.com/dermetfan for helping me get started).

I was going to do the Ludum Dare last August but different things came up and I ended up not making anything,

I will be using:

Language: Java
IDE: Eclipse
Framework:
Libgdx w/ Box2D and Box2DLights, and Box2DSprite
Music: FL Studio
SFX: SFXR
Art: Aseprite or Paint.net
Other: Tiled, TexturePacker, BMFont

I’ll be there!

Simply wingin' it

Simply wingin’ it since 2013

Yep, joining again! Hopefully all of team Quake can join and hopefully I can finally finish a game! The last couple of times I (and my buddies) have joined, I haven’t completed any games, due to some unfortunate happenings on my part. I am hoping they don’t happen this time around. Anyway, here is what I will be working with:

Unity3D (Free Version)

Gimp

Paint.NET

MonoDevelop

Audacity

Blender (If I make a 3D Game)

A small bag of Lays Potato Chips

And a whole lot of pop!

Giving it a go!

***EDIT*** I’m doing the COMPO, not the Jam! I always get those two mixed up. Off to a great start!!!***

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I’m in. It’ll be my second jam but my first LD, and the first jam I’ve done in a while; hopefully I learned enough since then to do better this time around!

I’ll be doing the Compo. As much as I’d appreciate more time, I don’t think I could last 72hrs of dedicated work without going nuts. 😛

-TOOLS:-
Platform: Flash (web)
IDE: FlashDevelop
Engine: FlashPunk (AS3)
Sounds: sfxr, FamiTracker, Audacity
Artwork: Adobe Flash CS4 & Grapefrukt Exporter (github.com/grapefrukt/grapefrukt-export)
Levels: Ogmo Editor (if applicable)

Good luck to all those participating!

I’m in!

I’ll be using Python and Pygame, GIMP, Aseprite, MilkyTracker, Audacity and BFXR as usual.

This’ll be my fifth time in the LD, though only the third where I’ve been able to devote the whole weekend to it. The last two times were rush jobs–one done in a hotel room in transit, and the other in the final hour of the jam after being filmed all weekend.

I’ve improved a lot in the last year or so, though my polish skills suck so you wouldn’t know it. I did finish a demake of Gravity Rush for MiniLD 50 recently that I’m mildly proud of, and you can play that here!

I’m not super jazzed about too many of the final themes, but we’ll see what we end up with! I’ve always been able to make do.

First Ludum Dare participation / #LD29 Wallpaper

Hey there, well Iam very new at the Indie Gamedev scene and very happy about having a weekend full of free time to work on a new game. Iam very excited about my first upcoming Ludum Dare Weekend because its limited on 48hours and I want to know what I can do in this time. For now I thought a bit about the tools I want to use/learn/get better with.

Development : Construct 2

Graphics: GraphicsGale for PixelArt, Photoshop for screenshots/collage

Music: SFXR, BFXR, FamiTracker

Good luck and much fun to everyone!

First Ludum Dare questionD:

Hello!

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare. I’m entering Jam, and I have a question about the competition that I can’t seem to find the answer for. When does it start?

I know it begins on Saturday April 25th, but what time does it actually start? At midnight? At 6? I’m very confused about this. I appreciate any help!

Right at the top:

Babby’s Second LD!

I’m a lot less overwhelmed this time, haha.

I’m planning to use:

Goo Create or Twine

MilkyTracker (if I can figure the thing out!)

GIMP/Inkscape

Audacity

Not counting on anything else, but we will see…

I’m in.

I will be using Unity 3D, Blender, GIMP, Audacity, and probably Makehuman and Sunvox.

First LD. Excitement is over 9000k

Used to make games back in high school, haven’t made them in a while. Got my hands on Unity did some tutorials and junk, but just haven’t followed through with anything. No matter what though, I plan on having something to show from this LD.

What I plan on using:

Unity

Lots of caffeine

MS paint

sfxr.

It’s gonna be a fun time and I can’t wait to see what other people come up with.

First time, should be fun ^_^

I’ll be using C++ with the SFML, and SFE Movie libraries.

For artwork: GIMP

Music: Perhaps some of the programs listed on the tools page here. Also perhaps a music generator  written by a colleague: http://www.omnimaga.org/computer-projects-and-ideas/pmusic-procedural-music-generator/

Plus anything else that I find I might need, but can’t think of/predict right now.

I am also using my own code base that sets up an MVC model for a game. I provide two versions, one with SFML already set up for use and one that is independent of third party libraries, so someone can use it with OpenGL, SDL, etc. I also provide an example program that makes use of it :)

You can download the code here, if you wish:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10573921/Releases/SkipiEngine.zip

this is my second LD….

… and i really CAN’T WAIT!

LD28 was so great, and so fun, and really built my confidence for game-making. An amazingly fulfilling exercise. Once again, my son (9yo enderosc) will be participating as well and using Scratch. I’ll be using Citrus Engine via AS3 via FDT with some other libraries along the way that i will try and post. Good luck all and have a blast!

thanks alvarop, good luck to you too and have a ton of fun!

Possibly In

It’s going to be an awfully nice weekend to be hacking inside… I’ll probably decide after we get a theme.

Not sure of tech but set up the site repo.   The pre-ld stuff will be here: https://github.com/swizzcheez/ld29/tree/pre-ld-setup

I’ll move the tag if I need to add any more base libraries, etc. to deal with deployment to Google Cloud.  (Not libraries for whatever game will come.)  It’s pretty bare bones.  Just getting bootstrap/jQuery and some basic Flask template skeletons together and making sure it all works nicely.

Currently planning to use:

  • Bootstrap/jQuery
  • Flask (though I may switch to Go)
  • Possibly LimeJS (or other similar JS game engine)
  • Google Cloud/AppEngine

We’ll see…

Hello… and base code!

This is my first Ludum Dare and I’m up to my neck in prep work, but I wanted to take a minute and post my test app, which is also a demo of the extent of my base code (minimal). It has only a single Unity scene with one button to stop or start the music (Myst theme). The main purpose was to create a web player that included UI and audio, and to have a code base that has all of my tools already imported: Unity, PlayMaker, NGUI, and SoundManagerPro.

I’m considering streaming my work and if I decide to, I’ll post stream info once I get it set up.

Going for a test drive

This is going to be the first LD48 for me, and I consider this to be a good opportunity. There have been a couple of things bugging me for a while.

First, it’s been a long time since I’ve been into a 48 hour contest. Had some success but it seems to fade like a filled row in a game of Tetris.

Then there’s this thing (or rather a set of things) I’ve been working on for a couple of years already, SGScript (and the associated libraries), which is basically turning into a solid replacement for Lua and other scripting engines. I have done some testing but there’s no limit to the amount of testing I still, always, want to do to make sure that everything is as good as it needs to be for high productivity expectations.

Finally, it’s just been too long since my previous finished game. I just want to make a new one.

I have two public source code repositories from which I will be using code that I have written before:

Contents of both repositories may change before and after the contest. There’s a library or two that I haven’t pushed there and the game framework there at the moment is slightly outdated but they’ll all be there a day before the contest. All bugs found and features developed during the contest are going to version-controlled repositories as soon as possible, too.

And since everyone’s saying what they’re gonna use to make their games, here’s my list: GIMP, Sublime Text, possibly Blender, sfxr, FL Studio.

Clear!

Just to be clear on things, I will be using the following:

  • Haxeflixel
  • Flashdevelop
  • GraphicsGale
  • Gimp
  • Audacity
  • Fruity Loops (?)
  • Sfxr
  • Lot’s of previously written code cause I can’t code myself out of a cardboard box. Also known as my engine library.

And that is all.

Obligatoryn “I’m in”-post

Whelp, it’s that time of the year again. Last time was my first LD and I had loads of fun so joining in this time as well is a no-brainer. My toolbelt this year consists of:

Code:

  • Game Maker Studio

Art:

  • Gimp 2.6.12 (aka best version)

Audio:

  • Audacity
  • Famitracker
  • FRACT OSC (you can actually make music with this!!)

Good luck everyone! Here’s hoping for either “Break the Rules” or “Two Worlds” as the final theme.

We’re in!

Technically 4th LD for one of us but first time working in a team for the jam, and first time for the other.   We plan to attend one of the live meetups this go around too!

The glitch theme is already something we were kicking around, but there are a lot of other good options.

So far we plan to use:

Construct 2
Photoshop
SFXR
Not sure for BGM

I’m in…

I’ve done few mini LD this year but this will be my first regular LD. Previously I made game with Flash (Starling/HaxeFlixel) but this time I think I’ll dive into Unity. I never made any actual game with Unity so I’ll start with some tutorials on the web and prepare for the day!! I’m very excited and waiting forward to see all your games!!
