LD29 April 25–28, 2014

Let’s do this!

Had to skip LD28, but I’m certainly gonna be in for LD29 (compo)!

I’m also working on a lot of stuff for my Lua game framework. Hopefully I’ll get better Bullet integration done before it starts (and maybe even SSAO)!

Anyway, here’s the stuff I’ll be using:

Engine/framework/thing: rGine (my Lua game framework)
Language: Lua/Java
IDE: Sublime text 3/Eclipse
Graphics: Paint.net
Sound: Dunno
Music: Garageband for iPad

Have fun!

I think I’m finally done preparing…

I’m excited to be participating in the LD 29 compo this weekend and I’ve been a rush to get all my tools in order. Made a lot of modifications to my workflow since my MiniLD #48 entry. This time around I’m sticking with Unity, but the assorted other tools have changed a little:

Engine: Unity 4.3 (2D/3D)

Graphics: Blender, Gimp, Krita, Graphics Gale

Audio: Bfxr, Audacity

Music: Korg M01D (3DS), Guitar wired through a Korg Pandora PX5D, FL Studio 11 demo (as needed)

Hopefully my first real LD will go off without a hitch and I wish everyone the best of luck!

Ludum Dare 29: Entry announcement/waffling

Ludum Dare always seems to arrive during busy moments in my life. In this case, we’re moving to another state in about two weeks.  Things are busy busy busy.  So, at this point I feel like I’m in, but there’s a chance I’ll have to bail.

Editor: Sublime Text 2
Language: Haxe 3/OpenFL
Frameworks: HaxePunk and Ash-Haxe (ECS)
Base code: Flaxen
Visuals: Photoshop, FilterForge
Audio: Audacity, Bfxr, Renoise and some plugins
Version ControlGitHub

Regardless, have a good LD, everyone!

Count me in!

Last time I couldn’t participate for the whole event and it has been difficult to keep this Ludum Dare’s weekend open as well. But I prevailed and plan to make the most of it. I will be streaming for the whole duration on twitch.

Tools

Github for keeping track of revisions and publishing the source code.
Löve 2D as framework
Zerobrane Studio as IDE
Gimp for creating sprites
Bosca Ceoil for creating music
Bfxr for creating sound effects
And (depending on the theme) I may use nebulator, a small lua script I’ve written that generates cloud sprites.

Forgetful edit:
I may also use
Audacity to improve the quality of generated bxfr samples
30log, a object orientation framework for lua

Might participate

Working on my engine, hopefully I have the important code done in time for the compo, and I’ll be able to hack a game together. Not intending to do anything amazing.

Tools:

SDL library

Codeblocks IDE

Photoshop CS6

I’m in!

Haven’t really decided what to use. I used Haxe/HaxePunk last time, but i’m thinking I might go with some JS framework this time. Or possibly LÖVE. Either way it will be fun! Good luck everybody!

I’m in, and making a practice game.

Totally in it this time (had to skip out last time), making a practice game right now about a character wandering into some Autumn Woods following an urban legend. See how that goes, and will post some here about it as it quickly comes along.

As previous years, I’ll be streaming my progress.

[FR] I’m in for the 3rd time ! + Stream

So I am in for my 3rd Ludum Dare but this time I am planning to do some 3D in Java if I can with the theme.

 >Tools:

Language: Java + lwjgl (if I’m doing 3D)

IDE: Eclipse + Sublime Text (if needed)

Arts: Paint.NET

Sound: Audacity + Bfxr

I am going to stream every thing here:  http://www.twitch.tv/marccspro

Stream strats 1 hour before the theme is reveald.

I French so the stream will be in french with some music.

Here is my LD page: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/author/marccspro/

I’m in for the first time…

Hey all, I’m a AAA dude gone solo and taking on all the dev roles.

I’m a long time Ludum Dare lurker, but I’m excited to finally be able to participate now that I’m learning to code.

Yesterday I took a trial run at making something from scratch and put this together in ~8 hours of work:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17611986/ClutzBot.html

(not a full game, just arrow keys to drive around and bump into things)

To be clear, I don’t plan on USING any of that in the event, it’s just the first non-tutorial thing I’ve tried coding, and was a great way to get a couple 1-2 hour long stumbling confusion fests out of the way (like, oh hey, THAT’S what an else-if statement is for!) :)

I’ll be using…

Code:

  • Unity
  • UnityScript / JavaScript
  • IDE: MonoDevelop
  • Free shader code libraries (“Free MatCap Shaders”)

Assets:

  • Graphics: I won’t lie… a version of Lightwave 5 that I’ve used literally since 1999 (aint broken, aint fixin it!), Modo, Photoshop
  • Sound and music: GarageBand and Audacity (It’s my understanding that using loops and audio from GarageBand is allowed, so, running with that I’m sure)

I’m on Twitter at @MrLeePerry… I’ll probably vine some updates, but not live feed my work (too hard with doing art on PC and Unity on Mac)

I´m out…

I tought i was going to be in this ludum but sadly that changed when i realised i had 8 chapters of Cisco to do. Well atleast its fun! I hope i can be in the next one!

that’s to bad bro, know how that is… well at least you can watch all the live streams!

I’m in for number 9!

It’s hard to believe that this will be my 9th main Ludum Dare event! Time moves quickly…

Anyway, I’m in again, this time doing the “compo” after last event’s trial of the “jam”. Working with a team is fun, but sometimes people are busy.

I’ll be using HaxePunk to build my game, GIMP (and maybe autotilegen) to create the art, sfxr (and probably my mouth) for sound effects, and perhaps LMMS for music.

Happy 12th year of LD, everyone!

ENDESGA on the ROAD

“I’M IN!”

~  ~  ~

Hey guys!

I’m in for LD29, I can’t wait to see what you guys make 😀

Annoyingly, LD29 has clashed with a holiday my family planned. So, I’ll be making a game ‘On the Road’

I’ll be using:

– GM:Studio
– GIMP
– SFXR

~  ~  ~

NIKRA has also been progressing well! The Power of Eobirith is almost finished, and the first boss is done!

I have also made an iPad and iPhone Theme, called ‘COLABIT’. Check it out when it’s on the Cydia store 😀

I’m in for my third Ludum dare !

I’m in for my third Ludum dare. On my side, I will create my game with this tools.

Language: c#
Software: GameMaker studio
Graphics tools: TileStudio
SFX:  LabChirp

My goal is to finish the competition with a game. You will be able to follow my progression on my website or here.

Jamming it..

Been out for a while but I’ve freed up this weekend for some jam time. My bud Paulo’s on pixels, I’m in charge of semicolons.

We’ll be using an entirely in-browser IDE / game host, playmycode – pretty pain free game prototyping. Check out this little platformer I made before Christmas. Definitely worth a look if you’re undecided on tools.

Language: Quby
IDE: www.playmycode.com
Arts: GraphicsGale + GIMP (+ maybe autotilegen)
Sound: Audacity + Bfxr

Good luck all!

Opinions on Non-Games

Seeing as the theme will likely be “Break the Rules”, I haven’t been able to stop myself from thinking up ideas in advance. One thought that I had is for a non-game about protests, but making a non-game in a game competition is a huge risk. While it also does encompass the theme in itself (breaking the rules of gaming), I feel that it could come of as, and actually be, very lazy of me. What are your guys’ thoughts on the subject?

Making a non-game due to lack of ideas IS a huge risk, and the theme may not be what you think it is. What I did is take the top 5 themes from each voting round (15 so far) and categorize them into genres.

Thanks for that suggestion! I know that there’s still a chance that Break the Rules won’t be the theme, and even if it is I probably won’t go with my non-game. I really like you’re connect-some-themes idea! Looking to make something more imaginative/unique/weird this time, and that might just help me do it!

Welcome to Ludum Dare 29’er!

Hey! 2014! Year 12! It’s Ludum Dare time! Woo!

Final Round Theme Voting has begun! The highest rated themes from Rounds 1-4 have been collected here for the Final Grand Theme Battle! Who will be victorious? You decide!
