LD30 August 22–25, 2014

It’s about time I do this.

I think I’m supposed to do one of these before I can be considered a real person. LD #30 might as well be the one.

Engine: Construct 2

Graphics: Graphics Gale / Photoshop

Audio: Dunno BFXR, and SFXR I guess? Maybe just make noises into this microphone I never use.

Really hoping the theme sparks a good small idea.  I really want to make something more confined and complete.

actually: last time a computer participated, so if you’re doing this to prove you’re human: sorry

I might be in?

So, I’ve attempted to the LD several times over the last few years and it always seems that one thing or another pops up and prevents me from actually getting anything done… Or I just fail terribly (Like the last two times). This year? It’s the job hunt thing. I might be starting a new job and when I do, its hours– important because I need to make rent– might likely encroach on the time that I have to participate.

Anyway, if I’m in I’m making use of:

Language: Java & LibGDX

IDE: Idea Intellij

Art: Paint.net

Sound: Don’t know, never seem to get around to it (Probably one of the random generators from the Tools page.)

LD #30

I’m going to enter this time! Finally 😛

I’m in!

This will be my 8th Ludum Dare and I’m very excited! Unlike previous LDs, I’ll be working alone and I’m determined to finish on time and not drop into the jam. I’ll be limiting the time I spend on it the best I can, since my best games (Busy King, Nod) have all come out of LDs where I had very little time and had to keep it simple.

Tools:

  • Photoshop
  • Either Unity3D or HTML5 (I might use Quintus) – it depends on what kind of game I decide to make.
  • Bfxr and Fake Music Generator (I just heard about this from LD and it seems great!)

Good luck everyone!

Dude, do you want to do the Jam with me and my buddy? If so Skype me @ digifigure 😀

Best of luck! Always looking forward to your entries.

LD30

My first Ludum Dare, I will use PyGame with my code base, Sublime Text as IDE and Paint.NET as a graphics editor.

I’m In

I haven’t done some programming in quite a while, and I want to learn how to better use Unity. Thankfully this whole thing starts a few days after the last of my finals so I have the free time.

Tools

•Photoshop & Paint

•sfxr

IDE: Unity 2D, with scripting primarily in C# as I used to do XNA programming back in the day.

I’m in!

All right, this is gonna be my first time attempting LD. Let’s see how horribly I crash and burn! 😀

I’ll be doing the 48-hour compo, starting from a base of code that I’ve stripped out of my full engine. The source for this base is located at http://www.piratehearts.com/files/LD48Base.zip. It contains classes for strings, vectors and matrices, images and blitting, timers, and stuff of that nature. I’ll probably bring over a few more things (input, collision, audio, etc.) over the next couple of days before the compo starts.

Warmup Complete

So on my participating post I said I was going to warm up by trying to get platformer physics right in case I decide to make one. Well, this is the result.

(I had to rush because of the 15 second limitation. Sorry that you don’t get to see the full tail waving animation. :P)

I like cats, by the way. Just in case that wasn’t obvious.

I don’t know if it’s just my monitor but your background is really dark, and the cat almost looks like a floating pair of eyes.

Something you should consider is implementing short hopping: cutting your jump short if you release the jump button prematurely. It gives the player more control over the character’s movement while not hampering the player character’s movement.

That thing jumps very, very high. ._.

I might go a bit crazy with this Ludum Dare!

This might be unrealistic, but I really want to try making a game in Unreal Engine 4 this time!  It would be a great trial-by-fire training session.

If I chicken out I’ll just use Unity again, but I I’m not too comfortable with how many Unity games I’ve been making lately. I need to switch things up! Even if the resulting game isn’t great…

Beyond that, I would use:

  • GIMP 2.0
  • BFXR and freesound.org

Switch things up? You only have one LD entry! Use the same tool for multiple years and THEN tell me how uncomfortable you get!

Haha true, I’ve only been using Unity for like 9 months, but I get restless easily! UE4 also just looks awesome.

First time

Hi all!

My name’s Camille and I’m a 3D Developer from Australia. This will be my first time doing any game comp, let alone Ludum Dare. I usually have a bit of a problem with picking ideas that are too ambitious or require a lot of commitment, so I’m unsure as to whether I’ll get a “playable” game in the time frame rather than just an intro to a longer game. In any case, I’ll be very happy to get anything to show by the end of the weekend. This weekend I hope to get at least 10 hours of work done. Going to a LAN party as well where I’ll be sitting in the corner making my game, must avoid temptation, wish me luck!

My usual tool set:

Engine: Unity

Language: C#

IDE: Visual Studio

3D: Autodesk 3ds Max

2D: Adobe Photoshop

Audio: ?? Might be simple recordings + Audacity

As much as I love the look of 2D games (pixel art in particular) I don’t have much experience in coding it, so this game will likely be 3D and first person due to the limited time available.

As mentioned in my bio, things like immersion and mood are very important to me when I create something, here are some sci-fi examples I made:

(Random 2D art I made in Photoshop with hill silhouettes traced off a photo)

Preview.mp4_snapshot_00.00_[2014.08.20_10.21.26]
(3D scene in Unity which was made by putting together some purchased terrain meshes, modified space skybox, lots of [very unoptimised] particle systems, and lighting – you can see a brief animated video here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/63545395/Preview.mp4)

Let’s see how this goes!

First Ludum Dare

I think I’m actually going to participate in this ludum dare. I’ve been watching the compo and playing the resulting games for a few years now, but this time, it’s the weekend before classes start so I will give it a go myself. I’m a second year Computer Science and Engineering student and though I’m not geared towards games, I hope I can apply what I’ve learned to make (and finish) a game for LD30! I’ll be participating in the 48-hour compo.

I’ve only ever finished two games, a connect four game that only printed to the console for my first school assignment, and a 15-square sliding tile puzzle for the last school project. It isn’t much but maybe the tiny bit of practice I’ve had will help me to not fail so miserably ^_^

Good luck to everyone participating, and Happy Programming!

I’m in, second Ludum Dare participation.

Last LD I was relatively inexperienced. This time I’ve had lots of practice, so hopefully I can finish one on time.

Going to be using either Unity or HaxeFlixel, depending on what type of game I decide to make. Other tools used: PyxelEdit, GIMP, BFXR, Tiled.

Bring It On

s0…so…

1. Unreal Engine 4 –  Program me like one of your gorgeously textured and lighted French  levels

2. Cinema 4D – Model me  like one of your reasonably detailed  French girls

In other words roll in Unreal  Big Toys

No, I CAN’T, I don’t have time. ALRIGHT, I’ll do it!

I haven’t done an LD since LITH for the Jam last December, but I was guttered about missing the one in April and I’ll be damned if I’m going to miss this, too. Okay, so I’m meant to be travelling north to see the family this weekend, but my laptop is portable. Amirite??

Also, roll on the Self-Driving Car. I would have had at least 200% more time to work with.

I’m in.

I’m in again, will be using visualc/paint.net/audacity/bfxr/labchirp; base code is here <https://www.dropbox.com/s/ujsr72an5a2c1jc/ld30-base.zip> although I might add some more stuff to it before Friday, so in the incredibly unlikely event you want to use my code, you’ll probably want to grab the latest on Friday in case I’ve fixed anything! I’ll be streaming during the compo if my internet connect is up to it, have fun all :)

Signing in, declaring code

Very much looking forward to LD #30. The themes in voting at the moment look great.

If the theme suits I’ll be using my minimal Javascript/HTML5 game loop as base code, which is at https://github.com/jmacarthur/mini-javascript-loop, which I’ve stripped out of my LD #28 entry.

The twelfth Doctor Who makes his debut this weekend and “Time travel” is one of the things themes up for voting. So you could vote for that, if you like. Hmm.

Ready to go!

Ready to experience my first LD!  I probably do the 48 hour solo challenge, so here is my blog post. Long time OpenGL/ObjC/Mac/iOS indie game dev, but I plan to use Unity for the contest.

Ponywolf is in… and a question.

The team at Ponywolf is planning on rocking the jam AND I have a question.

How do people feel about an Android APK as the final submission. We’d love to use our dev tool of choice–CoronaSDK–but it builds to iOS (which is out of the question to post over a weekend with signing/approval) and to Android. The APK could be easily hosted and even posted to the Play store for free, but will folks give it a shot vs. an HTML or Windows download?

There’s certainly more chance of me trying an apk rather than a Windows download. No Windows computer in the house :).
19. Aug 2014 · 21:59 UTC
Forgot to say… just make sure it doesn’t ask for too many permissions (Contacts, phone, wifi, GPS location…).
19. Aug 2014 · 22:03 UTC
Your satisfaction with the result depends on what you want.
19. Aug 2014 · 22:15 UTC
I’d load an APK onto an emulated Android device, but the performance might not be great.

Thanks for the comments…
