Ludum Dare 30 is upon us, and that can only mean one thing…

IT’S TIME FOR LUDUM DARE TO BELIEVE SEASON 2!!!!

Hello fellow game developers, artists, musicians, and enthusiasts!

The Button Masher Bros. are back and we’re ready to highlight our favorite games made in Ludum Dare 30! We very proudly present the full trailer for our upcoming series where we highlight your favorite entries.

As with last season though, we’re going to need the help from this wonderful community. It is impossible to play every single game that is submitted. So we need you to send us your favorite entries! You can contact us through email ([email protected] /* */), Twitter, or by commenting on any of our Ludum Dare videos on YouTube.

We are extremely excited to bring you Season 2 of Ludum Dare to Believe and we wish all of the contestants the very best!

P.S.

In case you missed the first season of Ludum Dare to Believe, you can check it out here.

My first Ludum Dare !

I’m finally ready to do it, create a game in a week end for the Ludum Dare competition ! My first one ! I’m a French Developper Student and i think this will be fun.

The Unity Engine and Paint.NET are going to be my basic tools.

Good luck everyone. :)

First Ludum Dare !

Hello !

I’m going to try the 48-hour challenge for the first time :).

I will use C++ with SFML library, Photoshop and/or photofiltre for graphics, and whatever I’ll find for sound because I don’t know anything about sound and music. I know programming in C++ is not the best idea for a Ludum Dare, but it’s the only thing language I really know.

Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?

To list why I’m screwed:

1. Its my first LD (and my first game jam)

2. I haven’t been programming for that long (out of Unity I’m useless)

3. I have no clue about graphics, sound design or animation

But anyway, I’ll be using Unity, programming in C#, using GIMP for graphics, sfxr for sound, and Netflix for procrastination.

Any tips for a beginner to graphics? Sprite art to be specific <3

My plans and tools for LD 30!

Hello everyone!

Last LD I had very little time because of different stuff getting in the way. I didn’t go farther than generating an idea. Hopefully this time I’ll be able to finish my entry.

Since I’ve never actually finished a game during Ludum Dare, this can be considered my first LD compo! Yay 😀

I’ll be using:

My Software is pretty standart:

  • HaxeDevelop FlashDevelop for haxe developing
  • GIMP for image manipulating
  • AS3SFXR for sound fx generating
  • Git Extensions for extending Git
  • DAME for tilemap creating (combo breaker?)

My plans

My plans for this time are very humble: just post something. Yep. Don’t want to spend a lot of time trying to create a masterpiece. My goal is to learn what part of the process will be most time consuming (even though i already know it’s art and sounds/music).

Thanks for the #LD30 contest

And also to everyone reading this entry. I hope I made you smile while reading this 😀

First Ludum Dare ever! Getting all excited and stuffz.

I will work on Windows 7, using Code::Blocks. Language choice is C++, libraries used iare SDL and OpenGL. I will also use some premade code that I’ll upload later, because i dont know the syntax perfectly yet 😛

The one that got me in here is the allmighty Notch. He inspired me to get into OGL and I hope he does well!

Good luck to everyone and I hope I’ll have some great fun!

I’m in #9

For the last two Ludum Dares, the themes have been really uninspiring and I was feeling overworked and tired before the compos. Not completing them I realized that change was needed. So we decided to take a vacation and then come back and completely change what we were using to create games in for the last 3 years. As much as I’m worried about Unity’s domination over the market in the future, I gave in to its overpowered awesomeness. I don’t regret it.

My History with Ludum Dare
LD 22: Didn’t complete a game but turned it in anyways.
LD 23: Hard to track down bug killed the game 8-hours before the end of the jam.
LD 24: Did as much as LD 22.
LD 25: Finally finished a game first time. Both in the LD and ever.
LD 26: Finished second game ever and by myself in the 2-day time squeeze.
LD 27: Was really sick the whole compo. Didn’t finish (because I slept too much), but made the most complex game mechanics I’ve ever made.
LD 28/29: Cancelled both for reasons of being uninspired (believe me, 4 hours into LD29 we went, “crap, this game is terrible”)…

The goal set forth for this Ludum Dare is to create something “simple” since I’ve only been using Unity for a handful of weeks…or in general to just create something which hasn’t happened for 2 LDs. It will happen, there’s high energy this time around (and pizza!).

What we’re using!
Engine: Unity (2D)
Programming Language(s): C# / JS(Unity)
Editor(s): Visual Studio 2010, Notepad++, Sublime Text
Graphic: Graphics Gale, Photoshop
Sound Effects and Music: bfxr, Soundation, FL Studio, or public domain music/sounds
Library/Framework: Unity 2D, Toolkit2D

One year later and once again I’m in!

So I’ve only been making games for a year and my first proper game was my first ludum dare entry I really enjoyed that first jam and learned so much. I then entered the next LD The weekend before a big maths test which I failed and got in trouble for. Worth it! For that game I tried a point and click game which turned out pretty good but super glitchy. Last ludum dare I really enjoyed and had no real problems creating a diving game . In other words the last year has been one big learning experience a lot of which I owe to ludum dare. As well as this I learned how to make chiptune music which is all on my soundcloud I would appreciate if you listened to it and gave some feedback. I have also entered two other jams, “candy Jam” for which I made this, and “indie3 Jam” which I organised myself for which I made Swords Curse which I am still working on. Thank you ludum dare for helping my dreams of making games come to fruition.

Now that my shameless self promotion is over. This ludum dare I’ll be using:

Engine:Unity 3D

2D art assets:Photoshop Elements 11

3D art assets:Blender

Music:Famitracker

SFX:SFXR

Happy ludum dare everyone!!!!!

if(LD30.others<me)Success=true; IM IN!

Good Luck to everyone!

LD30: 2xH Studios is In!

After our first entry, our team has undergone some changes (new team members, dedicated projects, things like that).  We’ve transitioned from XNA to Unity and are looking forward to collaborating and tackling the challenge of this round’s theme!  We will be streaming development just like last time and look forward to talking to viewers!

Back for a second beating

You’d think I would have learned that working all week and then spending all weekend doing even more work was a really great way to burn myself out, but I just can’t seem to stay away. I’ll be competing in the compo again this time. Running about the same setup as last time:

Engine: Unity 4.5 (2D/3D)

Graphics: Blender, Gimp, Krita

Audio: Bfxr, Audacity

Music: Korg M01D (3DS), Guitar/Bass through Korg Pandora PX5D

Good luck to everyone. Now lets go make something awesome!

EDIT:

Almost forgot to include the standard assets package I’ll be using. It’s something I’ve built up since the last LD that just contains simple scripts, fonts and test assets that I seem to re-implement in every LD.

I’m in

Going to do something with HTML5, probably using Phaser.

Got the weekend clear (ish), bank holiday Monday. Should be good.

I’m in! Again!

Last Ludum Dare was a blast… so I’m going to have another go. I want to believe I can do better, and no other way to prove it! (Also: Not going to do a side scrolling shoot em up without the shooting.. I mean, what the hell was I thinking?)

Tools? Well, probably going to use Three.JS, Blender, Photoshop and Reason again.

Three.JS was a nightmare last time. I spent far too much time just doing boilerplate stuff (it’s not a game engine, basically)… but the game I made was at least playable directly in a browser without any plugins and I think that’s worth the pain. Maybe.

I’ll be using some of my own base code (available, as per the rules, from my github account)… mostly around animation and tweening, but I hope to publish some Three.JS boilerplate project stuff before the competition begins.

Good luck everyone! 😀
