Getting ready for LD #30

Hi,

Since I plan to join LD #30 next weekend, I thought it might be appropriate to do a brief introduction of myself. My name is Marc and I’m a programmer, but sadly not in the game industry. However, I do some game development in my spare time. Due to a constant lack of  said spare time, I never actually finished any of my projects. I hope LD will teach me how to make the most of limited time. But mostly I hope it will be loads of fun. I don’t see LD as a competition anyway. To me it’s something that brings people together from all over the world.

I’m still  not sure, if I’ll join the solo competition or the jam with a friend. We’ll probably use HTML5 + JavaScript for coding and Gimp/IrfanView for graphics. Sound FX and especially Music could become a problem.

I did some graphics for warmup weekend. It’s a tile set for a jump&run game in retro pixel art style:

tiles01 example01

The example level is just a mockup, because I didn’t have the time to actually code something. The tile’s color palette uses colors of a C64 btw. 16 colors should be enough for everyone, although I had to add a 17th color as transparent color. I never noticed before how carefully those colors were chosen by the designers of the C64 to complement each other. And I still don’t use all of them yet.

So, be creative everyone!

Marc

My Html5 framework available on GitHub

The rules say: “Base code and personal code libraries are allowed, but should be declared and shared with the community prior to beginning your entry”.

It looks like I have to share my base code with other people before I can use it… well, here you go, my Html5 framework on GitHub:

Link: https://github.com/JNyknn/Simple-Html5-Framework/tree/master

I do not recommend to use it. It has no documentation and some work-in-progress features. It is very unlikely I will ever upload the GitHub repository. But take a look at it if you want to. You might learn something if you are a beginning Html5 developer. I have made 17 games using that framework, although I have modified it a lot since my first Html5 game.

That looks like a decent starting spot, yes. Also I wasn’t familiar with Howler, so – kiitos for sharing.

I’m in!

First time Ludum Dare! Let’s see if I can at least finish… 😀

  • Audio: bfxr and Audacity

This is my first ludum dare and i am excited

Hello everybody. This is my first ludum dare and i am very excited.I hope ludum dare will be funny for me.

Tags: as3, compo, Flixel

I’m in!

This is my first LD of, what I hope to be, a long lasting series of future entries. I’m a 18 y.o. Maths student from Spain, but I love computers and programming. My main aim is to become an artificial intelligence developer (someday lulz).

But, in the meantime, I like to mess with games and stuff. So, what will I be using? Easy:

  • A custom engine written by me in Java, which uses libGDX as a base. I’ll try to participate in the next LD with an engine that uses LWJGL, but now I don’t have enough time to build it from scratch, and libGDX is a pretty nice base. You can check out the github repo  here.
  • For image editing I’ll be using Photoshop (I’ll try to make cute drawings, since I “can” draw). I may use PyxelEdit for the tiles.
  • For SFX I’ll use BFXR.
  • For music I’m going to (mainly) use a piano keyboard. And I’m going to give it final some tweaks on FL Studio (Maybe).
  • And if I use some 3D on my work I’ll be using Blender or Cinema 4D, depending on the situation.

I’m not going to stream since my internet connection sucks but I’ll use chronolapse to record all the process (if i don’t forget to turn it on lol), and I will upload it to Youtube (I’ll post the link once I have it, if anyone is interested).

That’s it for me. Good luck to everyone participating (and wish me luck too)!

Cheers.

Anyone Want to Help With The Jam?

Hi, me and another game developer are doing the Game Jam together. If you are looking for a partner then you can join us, just skype message me or him. My skype is Digifigure and his is uhhh… just skype me actually :) I dont want to bother him. But ANYWAYS if you want to join just skype message me and I’ll ask you some questions then add you to our group :)

Return for round uh… fuck it I’ve forgotten

I’m in again! I’ve lost count of how many LDs and miniLDs I’ve entered, so that’s either my shit memory coming into play or I’ve just done a lot. Probably a bit of both.

Ludum Dare is a wonderful time for me anyway. Usually, my projects end up being quite normal and friendly and blah blah  BORING. However, for Ludum Dare I let my weird, twisted and usually highly inappropriate ideas free. Past spawns of this are Million Dollar Manbaby, a game about tearing limbs off of your enemies and sticking them to yourself and M’Lady and the Tramp, a Wario-ware style game about getting a guy to lose his virginity.

I actually already have an idea for the game I want to make, so I’m going to pray that the theme allows for it!

Anyway, I am sans artist this time (curse you Lianne!) which means I’ll have to draw all of my disgusting ideas myself. I really hope I successfully manage to gross everyone out once again.

I’m also changing up what I’m going to be using to make my game to give myself more options. I’ll be using:

  • Programming: FlashDevelop w/ Haxe + Lime + OpenFL + HaxeFlixel
  • Art: Photoshop
  • Sound: Audacity

Good luck to everyone and remember to enjoy yourself!

I’m in! (Hopefully)

My second Ludum Dare now, last one I didn’t have enough time to finish, hopefully I’ll be able to on this one

Language: Lua

Engine: LOVE 2D

IDE: Mainly Notepad++

Graphics: Probably GIMP, Tiled, and Spriter

Sound: Undecided as of yet

Best of luck to all!

(Edit) I will be joining the Jam, as I’m busy this weekend as well. Oh life, why do you interrupt so…

I may be in!

This weekend is… complicated, but I’ll try my best to participate. I may get some time Saturday and part of Sunday. If I can align that free time with inspiration, everything will be alright 😉

I’ll be using the same stuff I used last time: Javascript (plain Canvas 2D + SoundJS), with my usual toolset (Gimp, Schism Tracker, Audacity, sfxr, Chrome/Firefox, vim, git, etc in Linux).

See you there!

Shall we play make a game?

This’ll be my 3rd time participating in the jam side of Ludum Dare.  And as it just so happens I turned 30 this year and this is round 30.  Truly, the stars have aligned!

As for tools, it’ll be the usual.  Unity (crossing fingers for a Unity 5 release), maybe a Unity plugin or two, FL Studio, sfxr, Audacity, Illustrator, Photoshop.

There are some great themes, as always.  Looking forward to seeing how things pan out!

I’m in take two.

My second ludum dare! Hopefully this one turns out better then the last one.

Language: Python with pygame and pyinstaller for making an exe. file

Art:  the gimp and/or MSpaint

Sound:– No idea!

First time it is

Finally able to participate after missing the last one, so I’m in as well :) Looking forward to a good time and hopefully a playable game at the end

Tools of choice:

Engine  – Unity / C#

Art – Manga Studio

Sound – whatever I can come up with and create with one of those free tools or sites

Modeling (if any) – Blender

Will also try to stream it, in case if someone is interested in watching <_<

Michael Jackson needs to remember a few of his favourite things…

So I’m actually gonna write one of these this time. I’m in. This post makes it official, for the first time!
I don’t think I’ll have much time, but I’m hoping to make a little something anyways. As such I expect I shall be entering only the Jam.

I shall be using stuff to make things:

  1. Processing for code shiz, though I generally use it more like fully-fledged Java, so whatever.
  2. Any audio I make will probably be made using a combination of a microphone, Audacity, Renoise, LSDj (running in BGB), and Famitracker. Whatever’s easiest.
  3. Graphics will probably just be rendered on the fly in Processing, but if I do feel like making something rasterlicious, then I shall do so using GraphicsGale.

LD weekends invariably coincide with busytimes for me, so it’s likely I’ll have less than 6 hours, depending on how much I choose to gouge from my snooze schedule.

If I get to the end and it turns out that I haven’t had time to make anything, I’ll probably be open to making music for others, as usual.

See you in the lists.

-Wonk

Good luck! :)

Back again!

Got the whole weekend off so I will being LDing it up for sure! =)  I used GameMaker Studio for my GB Jam game a few weeks ago, but I think I’ll be hopping back into 3d with Unity for this compo.  Hopefully I can finish this time too.  Twice in a row would be stellar! ^_^ Should be fun!

Hi do you want to join my Game Jam group? It’s just me and another guy and you if you want. I would appreciate the help a lot!! If so, skype me. My username is Digifigure :)

I’m in.

I’ve always enjoyed Ludum Dare, but I’ve never participated.

There was always a reason not to get involved. Well, I’m all out of excuses, so let’s give it a go.

I haven’t really made many games (and I haven’t finished any), so my entry will probably be a barely half-playable mess, but I guess it’ll be a good learning experience.

Language: Lua

Engine: LÖVE

IDE:  Sublime Text 2

Graphics: Photoshop, probably Tiled and Spriter

Audio: sfxr and/or bfxr for sound effects and (if I even get to that point) probably abundant-music.com or pulseboy.com for music

I’m in! Time to learn Phaser!

After having a moderately successful LD last time, I want to use this one to learn Phaser! (www.phaser.io)

Can’t wait to get started!
