LD30 August 22–25, 2014

I may partake

I may partake in this enterprise, if certain matters of the heart allow me so.

Possible tools:

GIMP – for non-pixel 2D art

Grafx2 / mtPaint / Paint .NET – for pixel 2D art

Wings 3D – for 3D modelling

Misfit Model 3D / Milkshape 3D – for 3D animation and more modelling

Audacity – for sound editing

sfxr – for sound effects

This site http://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/ – for realistic ambient sounds, also I’d like to ask how acceptable that is on the compo, not the jam

Possible libs:

three.js – For 3D gamedev with Javascript

Allegro – For 2D gamedev with C/C++

For sound – I accept suggestions as to what to use with Javascript (HTML5’s API is not very good)

Languages:

Most likely Javascript

If I need performance to do some technical gimmick, C/C++

emperorJavascript

My own code that I may use a.k.a. base code:

Anything on my github

My LD29 game (of course only the really base things)

I’m in

Hey, im entering Ludum Dare 30 for the first time, I will be using:

  • Unity3D
  • Javascript
  • Gimp (images/textures)

And GOOD LUCK to everybody.

I’m in

I’m for the first time!

Tools:

Unity – game engine

monodevlope – IDE

photoshop – 2d

Spine – 2d animations

Maya – 3d

FL studio – sounds

Count Me In!

I’m throwing my hat into the ring for my second Ludum Dare. I did LD28 last year and had a great time and was happy with the results, so I’m back to try it again (couldn’t do LD29 because of school).

Gonna switch things up a bit this time, so I’m going to program and animate in Flash CC using AS3.

For sound I’ll be using Audacity and bfxr.

For energy I’ll be using Coca-Cola ™.

Can’t wait!

I am in!

This is my first serious Ludum Dare! I will either use haxeflixel or use my own engine. I will probably haxeflixel because my engine sucks.

Tools:

  • Paint.net
  • HaxeFlixel
  • FlashDevelop
  • sfxr for sound effects
  • pxtone for music

Also CHECK THIS OUT!

I will play and then give a badge to anyone who shoehorns a Nirvana album into their LD30 entry

I’ll admit: I’m a sucker for subthemes. I based the character design in my LD29 entry around the Pepsi Consultant theme, and I smiled whenever I saw a game that worked in the Konami code last time. And I know for a fact that people love it when other people play their games.

So here’s the deal. Inspired by the guy who decided to submit “Incesticide” as a theme this jam, I’m going to play, review, and then give a badge to anyone who works a Nirvana album into their game. Just reply to this comment with a link to the game in question. Your badge will improve in awesomeness should you include more than one album into there; you will receive an ULTIMATE SPECIAL badge if you work Bleach, Nevermind, In Utero, AND Insecticide into your game.

In any case, subtheme or no, have fun with LD30! I can’t wait to see what games you’re all going to make.

getting ready for LD30

I’m in, working with the usual toolset:

  • Unity
  • Photoshop
  • Logic Pro X
  • Blender

My boilerplate code consists of:

  • state manager
  • midi event broadcaster
  • particle system
  • generic object factory (preallocation and object re-use)
  • generic quadtree implementation
  • camera lerp helpers
  • camera layering helpers

These are always a work in progress. Recent versions can be found in my previous LD entries. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested in the latest copy of any of the above systems.

Counting the days (I’m in!)

I’m a bit of a lone wolf, so I’ll take part in the compo as always :)

Since the theme voting started I’ve been brainstorming possible game concepts and how they can blend with the currently revealed theme candidates. This time I would like to make a somewhat narrative driven game, but I must come up with some fitting mechanics first (of course, considering the time limit and theme constraints). Also, I should start toying around with sprites to learn how to be more efficient at creating content.

As for the development tools:

  • Graphics: Photoshop, Aseprite, TexturePacker.
  • Map creation: Tiled, possibly. It will depend on the implementation language.
  • Audio: Probably Bosca Ceoil or Famitracker for music, then some good old friends for effects and editing: Bfxr and Audacity.
  • Coding: I sort of fell in love with Haxe the last entry, so that’s my first candidate at the moment, using OpenFL and probably Flixel as well. The final decision is not set in stone, and I’ve also been experimenting these days with Unity and Cocos 2dx, so I can change my mind eventually (even Actionscript3 could be an option). The IDE will be FlashDevelop in that case.
  • Moral support: Pet.

I’m in once again!

Hi everybody!,

I’m joining in for LD30 this weekend and I must admit I’m quite excited about it!

I’ll be using:

Pixen – 2D graphics.

 SFXR/Sunvox – audio and music.

 HaxeFlixel – Engine.

Tiled – for maps (if needed).

 SublimeText – editor.

I’m so excited that I even compiled a few tips for newcomers I have learnt during my -short- experience on past compos, you can find it here:

http://www.strandedsoft.com/getting-ready-for-ludum-dare/

Good luck! 😀

Here comes a new challenger!

I have nothing better to do this weekend, the whole compo thing is quite encouraging and this would be my first LD so why not. I already have a couple of coding targets in mind far from finishing anything playable, but I’ll try to fit them into the theme.

Weapons of choice:

Libgdx + Artemis-odb + Overlap2D – based off previous works, check my github

Android Studio – Can’t beat Jetbrains at fast coding

MS Pain and GraphicsGale FreeEdition for graphics – errrrrr programmer graphics ahoy?

Targets:

Windows (no happy about this one but I’ll make do)

Galaxy Tab 3

Xiaomi Mi2S

Promises:

Pony placeholders

Swearing in Spanish

Too many pee breaks to count

I’ll try to setup live streaming, but don’t expect to get audio or anything.

Yes. Oprah.

I’m all in!

I’m in for another Ludum Dare! I have Friday off and Monday is a bank holiday which is very helpful, means I can stay up really late. Here’s the tools I will use:

  • My own C++ engine
  • Lua
  • Sublime text
  • Paint.net on Windows, Pixelmator on Mac
  • Bfxr

Do I need to share the source of my engine? It’s just an executable file you write scripts for, the same way Love2D works. I wouldn’t have thought I need to but if you say I should then I will.

Can’t wait till Friday! Good luck everyone!

Unless you have a good reason not to, it’s a good idea to give people the source for your engine, so I would recommend it.

(I Hope) I’m In

Hi everybody!

I’m pretty new to game development and this is my first Ludum Dare. Since I have to go in to work on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, it’s going to be a real stretch to submit anything at all. But as someone who never finishes anything, I really want to do this.

If I’m still alive, I’ll be using the following:

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Libraries: libGDX, possibly Box2D, box2Dlights

Graphics: GIMP

Sound: BFXR, Audacity

Music: PXTone

Good luck everyone!

Count me in!

Okay, so it’ll be my second Ludum Dare experience. I hope I’ll complete another game, and that I’ll have as much fun as last time. Singing and dancing around after submitting last time was priceless. (If you want you can check my Treasure Seeker here).

Weapons of choice:

  • Pen & paper,
  • C++ with allegro library,
  • MS paint and GIMP for graphics (my art is still legendary awful :D).

Good luck to everyone, and I must admit I can’t wait to see your games!

Oh yeah, LD weekend

FWIW, I’m in. I might do another Twine game, might make something with Phaser. Might make a board game. Might make bacon and eggs. Will of course make bacon and eggs, breakfast of Ludum Dare meatatarian champions.

I’m in and Ready!

Hi everyone!

I am in for this Ludum Dare and want to make a complete finish of my game!

Last time I tried but failed to use my creative side effectively and efficiently so this time I will learn from my mistakes, take breaks, draw out some ideas, and not rush into one idea before thinking it through! I also want to brainstorm first to see my options, enemies, player, and situations the game could be done!

I also need to get more sleep haha to keep going throughout the competition!

Tools:

I will be using Gamemaker:Studio Standard edition!

Also using my guitar, bass, electric guitar or piano for the music and possibly my blue snowball iCE microphone to record with Audacity!

I also did a warmup game : http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30-warmup/?action=preview&uid=24642

Hope you all survive this competition!

We’ll see if I finish in time for the 48 hours or the Jam!

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Let’s make it Ludum Dare official

OK, I’m throwing my hat in the ring. A lot has changed since the last Ludum Dare and my weekend will certainly be different than any other Ludum Dare weekend before (pros and cons present alike) but I’m ready to participate for my 4th consecutive time.

The plan is to go with what I’ve used in previous jams: Stencyl, GIMP, and potentially some sfxr and PXTone.

This time, my plan is to do something different genre-wise from my last two entries. I want to make a deliberate effort to take a single, simple concept or mechanic and try to flesh that out as much as possible. Its my hope that I’ll be able to hone and refine a laser-focused game that doesn’t try to do too much. It’ll hopefully mean more time for content and polish. 😀

I may just make the 48 hour deadline this time! 😮

All set for the big weekend!

Woohoo!  I spent some time setting up my environment ( which can be found here, for anyone interested).  I spruced up my usual site wrapper a little bit and made the game size a little wider.

I also spent some time in Spriter attempting to animate a sprite.  Boy, I have most definitely been missing out!  In not 15 minutes I had created a very simple running penguin animation:

test

It’s certainly not perfect but it’s better than anything I could have created for sure!  All in all, it’s 12 frames of animation.  That’s insane!  I’m used to making walking cycles that are 4-6 frames because it’s too expensive to do any more than that during the weekend.  This program should really help me to make something cool!

Good luck to everyone, and here’s to a great weekend!

I’m in: C / OpenGL / a few libraries

Hey game-makers,

I’ve been learning OpenGL lately, so I’m focusing on tools I can use to make a win/mac desktop game in mostly C. I might use some C++ for the vector stuff as the GLM library is great for that.

Here are the tools I’d like to use:

  • gameshell (win|mac) as a starting cross-platform project
  • glhelp.{c,h}, a small OpenGL utility
  • oswrap, a cross-platform C library
  • glm for vector math
  • possibly cstructs for STL-like containers in C

I like vim, but I’ll probably use Xcode / Visual Studio for these as they make it easy to build/run GUI projects. I use photoshop and audacity for pixels and audioxels (what do you call an audio pixel?)

My personal goal is to design a game that is technically easy to build. Over-ambitious designs are a weakness of mine!

Let’s make some games!

I’m in again.

I havn’t been in the last few Ludum Dare’s. I think it’s time to throw my hat back in the ring.

I will be using Unity, photoshop and aftereffects.

I hope you all have a great time! Lets make some awesome games!
